Chapter 1:
Percy had been dormant for a few weeks. No response from the constant poking by the Northern Water Tribe's healers. He had felt water graze his face nearly every day. The shock of energy constantly entering his body. Yet, his eyes wouldn't open.
"What's wrong with him?" Yue asked as she constantly visited the stranger day after day.
"It seems he's stuck in limbo. His physical body itself is present in this world. Yet his mind is somewhere else." One of the healers responded as she manipulated the water between her fingers.
"Is there a way to bring him back?" Yue continued to pester the healers with questions. Feeling a certain attachment to him. She was the one to have found him and that in itself left him under her care.
Percy's body was covered by the heaviest pelts to keep him warm. Although he didn't really need them. Being a son of Poseidon made him somewhat resistant to certain weathers. Even to certain hot temperatures. As he managed to survive the volcano blast once Typhon had been released from Mount Saint Helens.
The healers had long exited the room and left the two alone. The healers specifically losing hope that the boy would ever reach his consciousness again. The princess couldn't and wouldn't believe that. After washing ashore from such an unpredictable sea, he had no right to just succumb to eternal nonconsciousness.
"Is your mind so full of delicate memories that you cannot awake?" Yue asked the unconscious demigod as she received nothing in response.
She found herself removing her mittens as her warm fingers traced the pelt on the demigod. Her fingers grazing from the bottom to the top. Her hand finally grasping a strand of his hair from his forehead. Whisking it away before it once again fell into the same position.
As she hesitantly touched his cheek, Yue was surprised by how warm it was. The overall softness making her caress his cheek comfortingly. Her finger tracing circles on his bare cheek. His warm breath tickling her hand. His eyes starting to move from under his eyelids as he began to stir.
In a swift movement his hand had clenched her hand harshly as his violent green eyes looked into her soft blue eyes. He hadn't felt a human's touch in a while. Her hand generating heat, her human's touch felt foreign.
"Who are you? And what are you doing?" Percy asked skeptically as his grip didn't soften.
"I am Princess Yue of the Northern Water Tribe. I was…" Yue was unable to finish the latter question. There wasn't a good excuse to give for invading someone's personal space.
"Water Tribe?" Percy's state of confusion letting her hand go as she massaged it from the harsh manner, he had grabbed it.
"Yes. The Norther Water Tribe in the North Pole." Yue reinforced her response as the demigod began to wrinkle his face in further disorientation.
Percy looked past her as he noticed he was in a room sculpted and welded from snow and packed ice. His hand brushing the cold yet soft snow bed he was sitting on. The humorous aspect of his situation was that he couldn't recall how he had arrived in such an odd place.
"I was in…" Percy attempted to recollect his last whereabouts, but they were blank. All that he remembered was that he had jumped into a never-ending darkness.
Yue didn't bother to listen to his confused dialogue as she noticed the scars on his knuckles. Something she had failed to realize when she had ordered her guard to carry him into the palace. Further unsettling was the rigid posture he was in. His delicate sea green eyes, beautiful, yet wild and savage like. A sense of dread had befallen her, she felt like she was in danger. As if she was cornering an animal that would fight at nothing to escape and survive.
Yet, even though her instincts were telling her to run and call for help, she didn't. She was glued to her seat across from him. Marveling at how a teenager nearly the same age as her could have such a guarded posture and expression.
"What's your name?" She asked hoping to defuse the rising tension in the room.
Percy let the question linger for a moment. Who was he? That was the same question he had asked himself before he had jumped into the everlasting darkness. He knew his name was Percy, that was for certain. Yet he felt that his name should've held a higher regard and esteem. Then, a series of flashbacks from his previous life had coursed through his mind.
"Percy" He responded as his hand braced the side of his forehead the memories causing a sharp pain.
"Such an odd name." Yue furrowed her eyebrows, trying to recollect if she had ever heard a name similar to his.
"Maybe." Percy disregarded the rarity of his name as he rose. He took one step forward before collapsing to the packed ice floor. His leg and elbow bruising in the process.
"You're still weak it seems. You've been unconscious for a few weeks now. Your motor muscles must be a bit sore and tense from the lack of use." Yue scolded Percy as she tried to pick him up. Although she realized he was too heavy for her. Which she found odd considering he was malnourished.
"I'm fine." He attempted to push himself away from the princess as he failed to do so.
Percy tried to get up under his own power but found his limbs failing him. An excruciating pain that spread throughout his body. Almost as if he had actually fallen from the sky and crashed into the hard ice.
"I'll get the healers." Yue commanded as she didn't wait for his response as he laid on the icy floor.
It was weird that he would land in the North Pole off all places. He expected to wake up in front of the three judges of the Underworld. Await his trial and live his afterlife in Elysium where the rest of his hero kind would enjoy their heroic acts. Alas it wasn't the way he had imagined it. He still felt very alive and it seemed he could still feel pain in this world.
He clenched his hands attempting to see if his father's powers still obeyed him. It seemed so, but the pain that protruded from his gut meant he was still to weak to manipulate water. Percy felt around his pockets. Exploring every hidden crevice hoping to find his trusted weapon. His heart dropped when the pen was nowhere to be found. Unfortunately, it didn't seem to follow him in totally different reality.
"Hurry." Yue beckoned the healers and her father. Percy seeing her rush into the room from the corner of his eye.
"So, he's finally awake." Her father looked at the boy laying on the floor skeptically. Very much disliking the fact that her daughter was spending more time with him than Hahn, her betrothed.
"What' your name?" The chief knelt beside Percy. His wise eyes the color of soft blue. The same colored eyes from the Princess he was acquaintanced with earlier.
"Percy." He responded attempting to sit up. The pain in his gut unbearable. However, the man asking him questions helped him sit up.
"Now tell me. Where are you from?" Arnook was preparing for the worst. Was he a spy sent by the fire nation? Or was he a simple refugee that managed to survive the harsh waters in the North Pole.
"To be completely honest with you. It's hard to explain. I don't think I'm from anywhere within this world." Percy looked at the wise man who interlaced his fingers. Trying to interpret his answer.
Silence followed. The wise man's soft blue eyes analyzing Percy from head to toe. He knew he was deciding whether he was a threat or not. Trying to get a read if he had a deceptive nature. However, Percy's response was as raw as possible. It seemed he had no clue where he actually was.
"Very well. Get some rest. Due to my daughter's kindness you managed to live. It is only fair for you to repay your debt. Once you are of able strength you will join the ranks of the front-line defense for the city. You understand?" Arnook looked at Percy with unwavering eyes. The chief knowing that the teenager could not refuse his proposal. It was the least he could do.
Percy nodded as the healers propped him up and once again laid him on the warm and soft pelts. The healers manipulating the water as they brushed the liquid all over his body. Arnook leaving the son of Posiedon to have his wounds healed. Yue was banished to the hallway. Her demands to be let into the room denied as the door was frozen shut.
As they removed Percy's dark shirt, they were surprised by the amount of battle scars the son of Poseidon held as trophies. One diagonal scar that decorated his chest. The pale scar that garnished his left collar bone to the opposite side of his rib cage. Other scars that resembled claw marks adorned his back.
The healers themselves marveled at how damaged the young man's body seemed. Never have they seen scars like his. Perhaps from deceased warriors, but never from a simple teenager. If anything, the scars some of the water tribesmen seemed to be riddled with, were burn lesions from fire-benders.
Percy self-consciously traced his largest scar on his chest with his finger, not fond of the memory. The harsh flashback from when he had fought Krios. After breaking the chains that seeded the Doors of Death, he had proceeded to fight alongside Damasen and his pet. Damasen easily absorbed by Tartarus. Krios managing to get inside his defense and giving a painful slash to his chest. Knowing that he was outnumbered and overpowered he fled like a coward. That very scar reminding him of his cowardice.
The water that brushed his scars and bruising provided a slight relief from the aching pain. Percy himself witnessing a set of surprises. Other people that managed to manipulate water with ease and heal him like any child of Poseidon. It was rare for anyone to manipulate the element of water, much less various people. Perhaps this particular world was outside the norm. Then again, the world he left wasn't normal either.
"How long does it take to master water healing." Percy asked breaking the healers' concentration as the water turned cold.
"Years. Women learn healing. While the men blessed with water-bending ability are taught the methods of using their water-bending as a weapon." One of the healers responded, a hint of resentment in her voice.
"That's kind of unfair." Percy voiced his displeasure.
"It is how this society functions." The healer responded resigned to such unfair fate.
"Hmm. I knew a girl that was the smartest person I have ever known. She was one of the best people I had the pleasure of meeting. She was strong, wise, and gentle at the same time." Percy's voice caught as he choked up the latter part of his statement. The stormy gray eyed Annabeth looking back at him in a hallucination.
"Women don't rise to such powerful positions." One of the healers responded with finality.
"Maybe not in this society. But women are strong. My mother was strong, the girl I spoke about was strong. You are strong as well. Eventually the men of your tribe will realize it." Percy reminded himself of his mother who no doubt was crushed by his supposed 'death'. Whilst Annabeth would feel guilt for his decision. But he cared for them deeply. Women had a very positive influence in his life. That's why he was so grateful to not only his mother but to Annabeth as well.
"Thank you very much for the sermon. Now rest. You will need it. Your injuries were grave, but we have done the best we can." Percy nodded as he saw the group of healers leave his room.
His eyes began to feel droopy. The white ceiling becoming a very promising view. He didn't know when he had fallen asleep, but he did so rather quickly.
Author's Note: Chapter 1 is introduced. Now It's going to be slow paced. Small chapter at a time. So yeah.
Now to respond to the five reviews.
Alexvsjsn: Thank you for your eagerness pertaining to this story. Your excitement is very much appreciated.
Guest (with long comment): You had various questions and criticism so I will attempt to answer them to the best of my ability.
I think the audience for avatar is for younger audiences like you said. However, for this particular crossover I want to attract older audiences above the age of 12. I intend to explore dark emotions like death, torture, loss, coping, etc. Harsh emotions like those are very present. War isn't only about death but also psychological damage. Something that is rarely explored in Avatar.
I agree with death being highly absent in Avatar. But that's what most stories have, a good ending. Perhaps mine may or may not have a happy ending by definition, but I think some loss is warranted. Some reality will be present in which obviously Aang and his crew won't miraculously take out an entire fire nation fleet. It will be a little bit more realistic.
The height for most characters in the PJO universe is never explicitly stated. They are compared by the actual characters. Like Riordan saying Percy is now a head taller than Annabeth. Or that Jason is one inch taller than Percy. There exact measurements are unknown. But I agree that he will grow more.
I not going to make Percy immortal or partially immortal because that defeats the purpose of pairing and the story. It would suck if Percy lived on forever whilst the people he originally met were to die. Not only that, but if Percy were to be fully immortal, he doesn't have to worry about dying. He can charge the fire nation and his enemies, wipe them out, because an immortal is significantly stronger than regular humans. He will still be a demigod. Tartarus just has a different time space continuum compared to earth. Think of it a day in Tartarus could be a hundred years on the surface. It's just an example. Time in Tartarus is much slower.
He is not less human. Just damaged. His moral compass is broadened which means he isn't afraid to play dirty anymore. Well that is unless someone changes him.
No gods in this crossover. Just mentioning some of them from Greek mythology. The intro about people all over the avatar verse praying to anything was just a unique detail to the story.
Trust me, Percy knows all about sacrifice and when to let things go. As a warrior he knows loss and death is inevitable. Something he might teach Aang, is that accepting death is a must when the world is counting on you.
I chose the Yue pairing because it's not prominent. Suki and the rest you mentioned don't cater to my interest. Since they are being paired you already know she won't die from sacrificing herself to reincarnate as the moon spirit.
That will be revealed eventually.
Other Guest (shorter review): I'm glad for your enthusiasm. I am also excited to keep writing in this crossover.
Kosta1: I hope it lives up to your expectations.
Deathcornfive: Like previously stated with other guest review, his height isn't explicitly stated in the books. But yes, I believe he's in that six foot to six-foot three range. People who are saying he's 6'3 are purely speculating. A good a guess that I agree with as well.
Also can someone volunteer to reread for grammatical errors please :)
