AN: Hey guys, I hope you guys are well. Thanks for the support so far, it really makes me want to write more of the story, and I also really enjoy it. Hopefully you guys are okay with the direction of the story. The Perzoe ship won't start sailing until Titan's Curse, but Perseus will have seen Zoë a long time in the past, but didn't want to take her away from her new family. Also, I know this is very far in the future, but two things. 1, I am unsure of how Zoë will survive, I was thinking Perseus gives up his partial immortality, and 2, should the Giants War/Second Great Prophecy be a sequel? Or should it be one book? What do you guys think? Also, for the great prophecy, Perseus and Zoë won't be a part of it, but will be like guardians I guess. Anyways, sorry for the long author's note and please enjoy!
Recap:
Maximus fainted and Perseus ran over to grab him, his hood still covering his face. He saw a centaur, Chiron, and a blonde haired girl walk out towards them as Perseus lay his brother on the ground.
"Who are you?" the blonde asked.
Perseus smiled. "You are very curious, just like your mother. My name is not important, but his is. He is Maximus Jackson, Max for short. Please take care of him." The girl and the centaur nodded.
Perseus bowed in thanks and turned to leave. Before he left he turned his head to face the duo. "Hey Chiron, make sure to give Max that pen," he said, leaving Chiron bug-eyed before he disappeared into mist.
"Who was that?" The blonde asked.
"An old friend," Chiron said as they took Maximus into Camp Half-Blood
Present:
Camp had been going well for Maximus. He had met Mr. D and Chiron, who was actually Mr. Brunner, and finally understood that Grover was a satyr. Chiron had also given him a familiar looking pen, which he uncapped to see a bronze sword named Anaklusmos. However, he hadn't noticed the presence of a certain immortal demigod watching over him.
Perseus had been watching the son of Poseidon while he trained and during the capture the flag games. When his brother was claimed, he felt proud, especially due to his brother's prowess with hydrokinesis. He knew it would be a matter of time before he received a quest, so he felt like it was a perfect time to reveal himself.
Maximus walked into his cabin after being claimed. Also, receiving the quest to retrieve the master bolt was very nerve-wracking. He sat down on his bed, thinking of the prophecy he received. "Well, I'm guessing Hades is the god that was turned, and we will obviously retrieve the master bolt," he said, thinking aloud. "But who will betray us? And what won't I save?"
"You done?" a voice came from within his cabin, causing Maximus to jump and grab his pen and uncap it.
"Who are you?" Maximus asked, putting his sword up and looking around the room.
At this moment, Perseus stepped out of the shadows. "I would rather you not kill me with my own sword if you were going to kill me," he said with a smile.
Maximus slowly dropped Anaklusmos and capped the sword, causing it to return to a pen. "Who are you?" Maximus asked again.
"I'm Perseus, brother of Achilles and son of Thetis," Perseus said. "I'm also your brother. My birth father is Poseidon."
Maximus' jaw dropped. "Wait, you're my brother? But how?" he asked. He then realized fully what his new-found brother had said. "Wait. Achilles is your brother?! How old are you?""
Perseus chuckled softly. "Old. I've been alive since before the Trojan War, and I led the sack of Troy."
Maximus looked at his brother. "So, what have you been doing since then?"
Perseus looked around the cabin. "Mostly killing bad people. I've killed Caligula, Nero, Maximillian Robespierre, Joseph Stalin, and many other of history's evils and procured Vlad the Impaler and Adolf Hitler for Hades, as they were his sons. I assume you know of the oath between the big three?"
Maximus looked at his brother with a confused expression. Perseus sighed. "Then I assume they haven't told you the great prophecy either, correct?"
Maximus again gave his brother a look of confusion, causing Perseus to put his head in his hands. "I'm surprised, considering Chiron's wiseness, but I trust him with the prophecy. However, after World War II, the Big Three, Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades, decided to make a pact and not have anymore demigod children. This is because during World War II, one side of the war had a son of Zeus and a son of Poseidon, while the other had a child of Hades, Hitler. However, Zeus broke his oath," Perseus said, adding 'twice' under his breath.
"What was that?" Max asked.
"Nothing," Perseus said with a smile. "Continuing on, Zeus broke his oath, and had a daughter, Thalia."
Maximus gasped. "Like Thalia's tree!"
"Correct, Maximus, I see you aren't a complete idiot," Perseus said sarcastically.
"Hey, don't call me Maximus, it makes me sound old like you," Max said with a smirk.
Perseus ignored the jibe, but smiled at his brother. "Thalia made it to Camp Half-Blood, but was going to die, so Zeus turned her into a tree, thus Thalia's Tree. Anyways, don't mention this, it's a sore subject for some campers. Now, you are a son of Poseidon," Perseus said with a smile. "Unfortunately, that makes you a forbidden child, and a mistake."
Perseus looked at Max sadly, whose expression soured. "However, just because you are a mistake doesn't mean your father doesn't love you. Your mother is very beautiful, and I'm not surprised Poseidon fell in love with her. Besides, Poseidon has been known to be one of the most caring gods, and one of the most powerful. Because you are his son, you will be very powerful, especially with hydrokinesis."
Max's expression brightened. "Anyways, let's talk about your quest. Who are you taking?" Perseus asked.
Max smiled. "Grover and Annabeth," he said.
Perseus chuckled. "Young love. Anyways, good choices, considering Annabeth is probably very smart, due to her parentage, and Grover has been loyal to you since the beginning. However, make sure you don't hurt Annabeth's pride too much. It is her weakness. However, if you know she is wrong, just make sure you do the right thing, and she will eventually get over it."
Maximus smiled at the information. "So, what's the prophecy?" Perseus asked his brother.
Maximus gulped before repeating what the oracle told him.
"You shall go west, and face the god who has turned
You shall find what was stolen and see it safely returned
You shall be betrayed by one who calls you a friend
And you shall fail to save what matters most in the end"
Perseus frowned at his brother. "That looks grim. However, I will be there in the background to help you, so if you need help, I'll be there."
Max smiled at his brother. "Thank you so much brother, you don't know how much this means to me. Also, since you gave me your sword, which sword will you use?"
Perseus smirked. "When I bring it out, I'm sure your friend Annabeth will know exactly what it is."
TIME SKIP (the next morning)
Perseus watched his brother meet up with Annabeth and Grover and get ready to drive into the city. Suddenly, he saw an older blonde boy run up to the group and give them a pair of shoes. When the boy said a word, the shoes grew wings. Perseus smiled, as those shoes could be useful.
As they got into the car, Perseus mist travelled and landed as soft as a feather on top of the car. He was able to make out what the two demigods were saying, and he couldn't help but chuckle. He put his ear against the hood of the roof and listened.
"Remind me again why you hate me so much?" Maximus asked, directed at Annabeth.
"I don't hate you Seaweed Brain," Annabeth said.
Max scoffed. "Could've fooled me."
Annabeth harrumphed. "Look...we aren't supposed to get along. Our parents are rivals."
"Why?" Max asked stupidly.
She sighed. "How many reasons do you want? One time my mom caught Poseidon with his girlfriend in Athena's temple, which is hugely disrespectful. Another time, Athena and Poseidon competed to be the patron god for the city of Athens. Your dad created some stupid saltwater spring for his gift. My mom created the olive tree. The people saw that her gift was better, so they named the city after her."
"They really must have like olives then," Max said. "Imagine if she created pizza. That would be a no brainer. Pizza over a saltwater spring? As much as he's my dad, I would take pizza over a saltwater spring any day."
Perseus had to stop himself from chuckling. He would be anyone that the two demigods would eventually end up together.
Eventually, they got to the Greyhound bus stop, and sat there playing hacky sack with an apple until Grover ate it. Perseus got up and bought a baseball cap to cover his face, as he didn't want anyone to know he was alive just yet. When they got on the bus Perseus saw Grover sniffing the air.
"What is it Grover?" Max asked.
Grover shrugged. "I don't know, but hopefully nothing."
The trio looked over their shoulders and sat down cautiously. Perseus sat away from them towards the front of the bus. However, as he sat down, he saw the Three Furies, and he swore underneath his breath. Luckily, the trio saw them too, and Annabeth gave Max a baseball cap. "What's that going to do?" he murmured. Suddenly, Max disappeared. Athena, you've outdone yourself, he thought.
Suddenly, the Furies turned to their original form and began questioning Annabeth and Grover about Max. Unfortunately, Max's ideas weren't all that great. Perseus assumed he was by the driver, as the bus suddenly jerked around, causing the passengers to scream. Eventually, the emergency brakes were hit, and all the passengers, including the driver left the bus.
Perseus looked over at the demigods and saw them fighting the Furies. He was about to pull out his sword when Max shouted from the front of the bus. As the Furies walked past him, he shot out his hidden blades, killing two of them, leaving Alecto alone with Maximus, who quickly dispatched the Fury. Perseus vanished into mist before any member of the quest could see him.
However, thunder rolled over head and he saw the three members of the quest jump out of the bus before lightning struck it. He looked at the trio, and noticed none of them were carrying their bags, causing him to swear under his breath.
He followed the quest members into the woods and saw them stop at a store that seemed to be open. Despite Grover's protests, they entered Aunty Em's Garden Gnome Emporium. Perseus swore under his breath, knowing that it was Medusa. However, he knew his brother would handle it, and he could jump in at any moment.
He waited, and saw Medusa lead his brother out towards the entrance for a 'photograph'. He looked on proudly as Max slayed Medusa using a glass ball and Anaklusmos, with help from his friends and got closer in. He saw his brother write a letter and sign the with the head of Medusa in a box. He assumed it was for the Olympians, as they must share that trait of pissing off deities.
Perseus smiled as the trio continued on their quest through the forest and settle down for the night.
TIME SKIP (the next morning)
When Perseus woke up, he saw Grover with a pink poodle, and through lip reading, found out that the poodle was their ticket west, as there was a reward for it, and they were going to buy tickets using that money. When they got to the station and bought tickets, Perseus followed them and bought a ticket on the same train as them.
For two days, Perseus sat in their car, unseen by the trio as they chatted about random stuff. When Max mentioned his mother, Perseus perked up.
Annabeth and Max were talking about Max's dream about his mother, and how someone could trade his mother for the master bolt. However, when Annabeth mentioned the figure asked Max to help him rise from the underworld, he was pretty sure of the enemy Olympus was facing, and he knew he would need to help.
When they reached St. Louis, there was a three hour layover, and the trio left the train, much to Perseus' chagrin. He knew there would be monsters here, and that they would be safer on the train.
When they reached the Arch, Perseus didn't really have any interest in going to the top, he had done it before, and sat down near the river.
However, when he looked up, he saw Maximus fighting Chimera and Echidna alone, Annabeth and Grover must have already gone down. Perseus swore under his breath and mist travelled to the top of the arch right as Echidna looked at Max.
"Be honored, Maximus Jackson. Lord Zeus rarely allows me to test a hero with one of my brood. For I am the Mother of Monsters, the terrible Echidna!"
Perseus looked at Maximus before stabbing Echidna from behind, causing her to growl. "Who dares attack me, Echidna, Mother of Monsters?!"
Perseus smirked before ducking under a strike from Echidna before stabbing her with his leaf-shaped blade. "I am Perseus, son of Thetis and brother of Achilles. Have fun reforming, bitch," he said while removing his sword from the monster's torso.
Perseus looked up to see the Chimera cornering Max, having already blown a hole into the arch. "Jump Max, the water will heal you!" he shouted towards his brother, who was on fire. He looked at Perseus questioningly, who motioned to the river. Max nodded and jumped off as the Chimera attacked him again, missing him by inches. Perseus went up to the Chimera and scowled. "You think you can kill my brother, huh? Let me show you the true power of a son of the sea."
With that, he charged at the Chimera, who stood no chance at the enraged immortal. Perseus ducked and dodged the Chimera's attacks and shot water into the Chimera's mouth, causing it to choke. He then grabbed his sword and stabbed the Chimera through its mouth and head, causing it to explode into golden dust. When Perseus mist travelled down to the ground, he saw loads of policemen surrounding the scene. He saw Annabeth and Grover and raced towards them, moving them out of the way.
Annabeth took out her dagger and pointed it at Perseus. "Relax, I am not here to hurt you. I will introduce myself when Max gets here."
After a few moments, the trio saw Max walk out of the water and Perseus beckoned him over. Max looked at him with wide eyes before he ran over to them, giving Annabeth and Grover a hug.
"Max, we thought you went to Hades the hard way!" Grover exclaimed.
Annabeth slapped Max on the arm, but it was easy to see she wasn't angry. "We leave you for five minutes and you fall off the Arch? Are you crazy?"
"I'm..." Maximus started.
"Of course you are, what did I expect," Annabeth said, causing Perseus to chuckle. The three members of the quest looked at him with different expressions. Suddenly, Maximus sprung forward and hugged the demigod. "It's good to see you Maximus," Perseus said with a smile.
"You too," Max said.
"Come. I'll introduce myself on the train," Perseus said. "Everybody grab a hold to me, this might feel weird." Suddenly, the four disappeared into mist, and reappeared next to the Denver Amtrak station. They boarded the train quickly without being spotted and Perseus led them to a set of free seats just as the train left the station.
Right when they sat down, Perseus was bombarded with questions.
"Who are you? How old are you? Who is your godly parent? What weapon do you have? What powers do you have?" Annabeth asked, causing Perseus to chuckle.
"I forgot how curious Athena and her children were," Perseus said light-heartedly.
"Is that an insult?" Annabeth said angrily. Max tried to calm her down, but Perseus quickly responded.
"No, of course not. Curiousness is a good trait, but what is better is asking the right questions," Perseus responded.
"Now, if you would allow me to introduce myself," Perseus said, to which Annabeth eagerly nodded.
"My name is Perseus, son of Thetis and brother of Achilles."
AN: Hey guys. I'm sorry it's been a few days since I've updated. I've been really busy with my whole college process, and I didn't have time to write as much as I would have liked to. I am not abandoning this story, I just don't have as much time. Also, sorry the quest is so rushed. Most of the stuff is not as important and is pretty similar to the original, but it will be more drawn out when Titan's Curse happens. Anyways, please let me know what you think, and how you feel about the stuff I said at the beginning of the chapter. Thanks so much, and please review!
