Ugh... Okay, I swear to everyone that this is the last non-request Undertale that I make! I just got this brand new idea after watching the entirety of Undertale the Musical... no, I promise this one won't have any songs, since it doesn't seem many people care either way. Instead, it will be focused on a human that actually has a small bit of magic.
This human is named Spirit and she's completely mute (like, no voice at all) and she can only share her thoughts with her mind... and she is able to see those of the spirit world and use her soul power, which is Determination fused with Bravery (since she sees ghosts and dead people all the time)
It will be mainly in her POV, though if it does change the POV, I will make it known with the character's name in bold text, much like I do in most of my other fanfics.
Okay, all that junk out of the way, let's begin
Chapter 1
My life from the beginning wasn't a very easy one. When I was born, it was to one of the poorest families in the neighborhood and I barely could get by until my parents put me in an orphanage at age 4. But even then, at such a young and impressionable age, I understood their concerns. I didn't want them to feel like they were inept at taking care of me and I promised them that, when I was out of the orphanage, home or no home, I'd always remember them and try to visit them once in a while.
But then, when I was only 7 years old... something drastic happened that changed my life forever. A game of baseball with the other kids in the orphanage happened and I was the one at the pitching plate. I threw the ball at the batter as hard as I could... and after they hit it, the ball went right to my throat! I felt like I couldn't breathe and I knew that I didn't have a chance... but something happened when I got to the hospital... something that changed my life forever. I died... but when I went to the other side... which was one of the most beautiful places I'd ever seen... my soul immediately was sent right back to my body and I gasped awake... though I did so inaudibly and, in the meantime, the doctors, who were trying to resuscitate me, had accidentally sliced my tongue with their scalpels in shock, me gasping at... how when it happened, I wasn't in pain or mad or anything... just... surprised. I simply laid there with my breathing being normal as I let the doctors continue to work on me.
Soon after the surgery was done, I learned that the baseball had demolished my vocal chords... that combined with the fact that they had to cut out my tongue due to the damage meant that I was now completely incapable of speaking, singing, or doing anything other than breathing and eating... but something happened. I soon discovered that my mind had been... expanded. Anytime I looked at someone and thought something specific, they heard every word of what I had said... on the other side, I'd gained a bit of magic in my body, something that everyone thought impossible for humans to have.
But that wasn't the only magic that I had learned. Over the next few years, up until I was 15, I learned a lot more from ancient magic spell books back during the ancient war of humans and monsters. I learned how to stop time for up to 10 seconds, how to paralyze people who were in place... and the one that earned me my nickname, Spirit... I was able to communicate with lost souls who had lost their way. And despite what the movies would have you think, all spirits were just confused or saddened. I helped a lot of spirits go to the afterlife just by acknowledging their presence. By the time I had gotten to 16 years old, I was one of the best paranormal investigators in the world... but then one story in particular caught my eye.
According to a certain person, there was a mountain called Mount Ebott that had a very disturbing rumor. Any person who went to climb the mountain never came back. And so far, 7 had climbed it and not returned, all of them being youths like myself. I knew that there had to be spirits there that could need some help, so I immediately packed my things and went there on the first cab I took. I then hiked up the mountain trail until I found something interesting. A giant hole in the ground, surrounded by trees. I simply hooked a spelunking cable to a nearby tree root and harnessed myself up. I then proceeded to propel myself down the cliff... only for something horribly bad to happen. After about five feet, I gasped as I suddenly felt magic surround me and snap the cord that I was working with! I then started to fall down below as a ton of different thoughts went through my head at the same time!
Asgore POV:
"I really miss Toriel..." I sighed as I sat on the throne. It had been very lonely at the castle ever since Toriel left... and after the humans took my children from me... but then, I was shocked when I heard a voice.
"I-I'm gonna die!" I heard a voice shout, me getting off of my throne in surprise and looking around... but there was nothing! "Huh?... A bed of flowers? How can they break my fall?" the voice then asked again. I looked to the flowers by the throne, but again, nothing was there... but then, it hit me.
"The 7th human soul... it appears to have... magic..." I sighed, knowing it would only be a matter of time now. Only a little bit longer until we could save everyone in the Underground.
Alphys POV:
"Okay... this is getting kinda weird... w-who's speaking?" I asked in absolute fear, wondering if someone had burst into my lab... but that was impossible because the lights were off, the doors were still locked, and the alarms hadn't gone off. And then they spoke again.
"What the hell? A talking flower?" the voice asked, me gasping at that.
"N-No... F-Flowey's still alive?!... This is bad... very bad..." I gasped in fear, now understanding something. There was someone Underground with immense psychic powers. One that could speak with telepathy to every monster Underground!
Sans POV:
"hmm... a different frisk? one with magic, huh?" i asked with a hushed tone before I then heard the voice growl again.
"You little horseshit! You lied!" exclaimed the voice from the ruins in my head.
"hmm... quite the sailor mouth on them, too..." i smiled. "if this one is different than before... i'll have to be extra careful handling them..." i frowned.
"Huh? Your name is Toriel, huh?... What was that guy's deal?... And what kind of place is this?" the voice asked.
"huh... guess that some people are gonna be surprised to hear that one..." i frowned a bit.
"Wait... you can hear my thoughts?... All the way on the other side of the Ruins?... Must be because of my soul being more powerful... I'll try to keep from thinking too much, then... if you could hear me from that far away, who knows how far my thoughts have traveled..." the voice said, me smirking at that.
"well, her location's been officially compromised now. big things are sure to come from this, hehe," i smiled at that as i simply waited at my station patiently.
Toriel POV:
"Please, stop thinking out your words? If anyone outside of the Ruins knew about my location, then... well... I came here to get away from everyone," I said to this child... though it seemed they weren't really a child, but more like a teenager. One with magic in her soul. The kid then sighed and nodded, her then taking out a small device from her pocket that looked like a super-advanced phone from the surface. She then typed out some words into it and her phone then spoke on its own.
"Sorry. I will try to use my phone to speak until further notice." the phone spoke, me sighing at that. "I will lead you through the Ruins... though why did you fall down here in the first place?" I asked the girl. She then typed again and the phone spoke again.
"My name is Spirit. I came here to investigate the disappearance of those who came her prior. I am able to sense the souls of those lost. And I can already sense at least 7 of them down here," the phone said, me gasping at that.
"7?... But... that's impossible... there have only been 6 souls down here... unless..." I said in worry as I immediately thought of something. Some form of hope. "Chara... she may still be with us!" I gasped, the human then looking confused as she then texted one more thing.
"A soul that has lost their way? Can you lead me to the grave site of the spirit? My magic mainly stems in the realm of spirits and lost souls," the phone said.
"Um... question... how does a human get magic anyways? Humans are known for not being magical at all," I said with a frown.
"Can I think that part out for you?" the girl asked in the phone.
"You can, just so the others know what they're up against," I smiled at her.
Undyne POV:
I was extremely confused when I heard a voice in my head and it wasn't from the Echo Flowers. It was all so surreal to me that I thought it was a trick of the imagination... but my training dummy said he heard it too! And then we heard the voice speak again, me listening intently to what it said.
"When I was only 7 years old, I was playing baseball with some of my orphanage friends... but the ball smacked me in the throat, demolishing my vocal cords. And soon after, I felt my consciousness fade and I saw I was on the other side," the voice said, me gasping at that. Could it be that this was a human speaking to everyone down here? The voice then spoke once more. "But then, before I could enter the other side completely, I felt my consciousness reenter my body. The doctors revived me from death with their Defibrillators. And I saw that I was in the middle of surgery and the doctors, in their shock, accidentally sliced my tongue. Now, I cannot speak with my mouth and whenever I laugh, it's just inaudible breathing. But since I was on the other side, I learned that it affected my being. Now I have the ability to use magic, one of these skills being the ability to share my thoughts with anyone just by looking at them... but I guess that since I'm a human and everyone else down here is a monster, my thought powers are more powerful against their weaker souls," the human said, me gasping at that and growling. I knew she was right, calling monster souls weak, but NOBODY calls me WEAK!
"RGH! I sincerely hope that human gets here soon so I CAN RIP HER THROAT OUT!" I exclaimed angrily.
"But she already has nothing to rip out of her throat, didn't you hear?" the dummy asked me.
"Oh yeah, right... damn, that's surprising to be honest... a human with magic, yet has the loss of speaking with their mouth. And it happened while she was only a kid. She's sure to be the toughest match I've ever faced, bar none! Unlike all those other humans that were super wimpy!" I smirked widely.
"You wanna practice your blows on me, mistress Undyne?" the dummy smiled widely.
"OF COURSE! Let's go forty rounds!" I smiled as I then started to train with the dummy. I had to get tough to face this human, after all.
Spirit POV:
During the explanation, the goat woman named Toriel led me through the Ruins the whole way to her place, me seeing a lot of other monsters on the way, such as small fairies, little guys in frog costumes, jiggly jelly creatures, and we even encountered a literal ghost, though it was obviously of the monster breed. After moving through a couple rooms with colored switches, Toriel then spoke to me again.
"Would you like a cell phone? One that is used by the monsters down here?" she asked, me smiling and nodding at that. "Okay, here... apologies about it not having texting, it's a very old phone." I smirked at that and used another bit of magic with my mind, forcing the phone to have a texting feature as well as a map of sorts. "Wow, I underestimate the amount of magic a human can have," Toriel smiled at me as we then moved to one final part of the Ruins, as the other monsters called this place. And we came across a large tree that had no leaves on it and had a lot of dead ones littered on the ground. "This is the spot... where Chara Dreemurr lies," Toriel said as I immediately sensed a presence. I closed my eyes and held out my hand towards the grave, me sensing something... surprising. Not just a human soul was there, but a soul of a much weaker power was combined to it! And after I had managed to get them out of the ground with my magic, Toriel gasped at it.
"I-It's true... that's... that's not just any soul..." Toriel gawked as I then felt the soul speaking to me.
"P-Please... let me travel with you... as part of your soul... I can have it so that your mind is more controlled with its thoughts... and I need help to find my consciousness," the soul said, it sounding like a young boy of about 10 years of age.
I nodded at this as I then texted something on my old phone and it spoke for me. "The owner of this soul requests they temporarily merge with my own. He says he wants my help to find his consciousness, which is somewhere in this area," the phone said for me.
"Really?... Okay... I entrust my son and daughter's souls to you..." Toriel said, me smiling as the soul then entered my body and I could feel... slightly more powerful, but I could also feel what she meant. The son was her kid, obviously... but the other one? A human.
"Finally... we can finally find our conscious minds... and end this unrelenting nightmare..." said the voice of a female... from my mind. And Toriel gasped at that.
"D-Did you just... speak to me... Chara?" Toriel asked.
"Yes... I did, mum... I'm sorry... it's all my fault..." Chara said with sadness.
"What is, my child?" Toriel asked in confusion.
"When I died... I told Asriel to take my soul... and carry my body to the surface... I wanted us to get 6 more from the surface... and free everyone down here... but the humans in the village thought Asriel killed me, so they beat him nearly to death. Our souls became lost that day, yet still intertwined... though our conscious minds are no longer with us... they exist elsewhere in the Underground... and we know of what horrid things they've been doing," Chara said, me being confused at that.
"What kind of horrible things?" I asked with my mind... and then something happened... the whole area around us became darker as I saw some kind of apparition appear from in front of us... it looked a lot like a little kid with wide eyes, wearing a green shirt with a yellow stripe across the midsection, brown pants, and looking very creepy with her smile.
"Wouldn't you like to know?" this creature asked, me now knowing who this must be. It had to be the conscious mind of Chara. "Smarter than I thought you were... sadly, I am not going to be captured so easily... you see, I have seen the other side myself... but it was the darker side... and I have something here that you should know very well, Asriel," the creature said as she showed a heart... it was a soul! A human soul of red!... But there was something different about this one... I could feel nothing but hate and malice in it. "This soul, do you recognize it, Asriel?" the creature asked.
"T-That's... Frisk's soul..." he gawked.
"Oh, but it isn't the only one... I have many, many, many more," the creature said as she then showed at least a hundred more afterwards! And it was then that Asriel spoke.
"Chara... this is absurd!" Asriel exclaimed from my mind, that making the creature be confused.
"What do you mean, brother?" Chara's consciousness asked.
"You've had all of those souls on you this whole time... yet you didn't keep our promise!" Asriel exclaimed, the creature then looking to be surprised as I saw that they then looked to be upset.
"These souls needed to be stolen from the different Frisks. If I hadn't stolen them, they would've killed everyone!" Chara said angrily.
"But do I look like someone that would need their soul stolen? I'm not an enemy here... so what would I call you? Because I plan to help out these lost souls... and one belongs to you," I said to the consciousness of Chara.
"Oh, don't worry about me needing my soul... this timeline is only one of many. Just a warning, however. Kill anyone down here in this timeline... and your soul will join my collection," the consciousness of Chara said as she then disappeared into thin air and I looked confused... but then I gasped inaudibly as the apparition then appeared directly in front of me, mere inches from my face... with eyes that were black and bleeding with a horrid laugh coming from her before she then finally left and I was simply left spooked.
"What the... hell... happened... to her...?" Toriel asked in shock.
"She... well... my consciousness, after going to the other side... was then reborn as an angel of death... though when it comes to her... she only kills people in different timelines if they committed genocide throughout the Underground... there have been countless timelines and most of them involved a blank-faced kid named Frisk... but this one is different, mainly because of Spirit being here. Gonna be honest... a teenage girl that has magic... it's no surprise that my consciousness appeared to greet us... with that spooky warning," Chara's soul said from my mind.
"So... does that mean that this day is in a time loop or something?" I asked.
"No... that only happens with the timelines with Frisk. So long as you can get to the end of the adventure, we can all have a happy ending..." Asriel said.
"Oof... this is a bit much to learn... do you think we could go inside now?..." Toriel asked.
"Sure... let's do that... besides, since me and Asriel have the same soul now, we'd just need to find Asriel's consciousness," Chara said from my mind.
"Agreed. Do you think we could have something to eat, by chance, miss Toriel? Three souls means three times the appetite, after all," I smirked at her.
"Please mom? We'd love some butterscotch cinnamon pie!" Asriel said happily as Chara said something else.
"Yeah, and chocolate!" Chara smirked. Toriel finally smiled and laughed happily at us.
"Of course, my children. I thank you for your assistance, young lady... your name is Spirit, you said?" Toriel asked.
"Yes, that is my name," I smirked as we then went inside of the house in front of us and I simply sat at the table, wondering what would happen next in this adventure. How many more spirits were around that could use some help?
