~Forks Washington: August 1st~
Forks Washington. The rainiest, most boring town to live in. Or at least to the human world that is. There is a supernatural aspect that lives on in this town, or at least on the outskirts of it. La Push is the reservation where the Quileute tribe resides. The little clan holds many legends of the men that turn into wolves and fight the cold ones. All are legends or stories told to children for bedtime. Humans are blatantly so naïve when it comes to the supernatural world around them.
What is so special about Forks? It's not Forks that is special, but the story that unfolds there.
Once upon a time…
"Bella!" Charlie's voice bellowed up the stairs. Bella groaned and rolled over on her side, pulling a pillow over her head. The heavy footsteps of her father ascending the stairs made her sigh and get to her feet. She opened the door before he could knock.
"Yes dad?" Bella looked at him, her dark eyes filled with sleep, and her dark locks were tossed messily in a bun on top of her head.
"It's time to get a move on, your brother is already up, and moving around and getting ready." Charlie said, nodding over his shoulder.
Bella glanced over at Jacob who was taller than both her and Charlie, and was oh right, a werewolf. Jacob's dad died when he was younger, and so Sarah remarried to Charlie when Bella was only seven. Jacob was five. So, they were "technically" step siblings, but her dad never made that a difference. Sarah and Charlie went on to have a daughter to, who was ten years old, and in that "know it all" phase. Her sister's name was Gabby. Short for Gabriella. To top it off, her mom had remarried, and she also had another kid, another brother they called Toby. So, Bella was not short of siblings at the moment.
"Jake is always up early because he goes out running with the pack." Bella retorted.
"Don't use his wolfy thing as an excuse for being lazy Bells. Get up, you're going to be late for school." Charlie said and then Bella slid the door shut and sighed. Yay school.
Bella pulled a blue, long sleeved shirt on with a hood and some dark jeans and pulled on her converses. She pulled a brush through her hair quickly, then brushed her teeth, before rushing downstairs.
"Bout time you made it down. We're gonna be late for school," Jake whined.
Bella stuck her tongue out at him and grabbed an orange from the fruit basket. Sarah was washing up breakfast dishes. "Bella, you should eat something more than an orange."
"It's cool mom, an orange is all I need," Bella smiled and then leaned over and kissed Sarah's cheek. Bella didn't really see Renee much, because she lived with her dad for most of her life, and Sarah was the only mom see really knew, so it wasn't so odd for her to call her mom and be affectionate.
"Okay sweetie, well you guys be careful, and have a good day at your first day of school." Sarah called as Jake and Bella rushed out the door.
Gabby got up from her chair. "Come on daddy, I want you to flash the lights!" she said, grabbing her backpack, and Charlie smiled down at his daughter. He leaned over and kissed Sarah softly. "I'll see you later beautiful." He said and rushed outside with Gabby's hand in his, where he took her off to school.
Bella drove her beat up red pickup truck, and Jake rode along this time instead of riding the motorcycle he spent all summer building. She knew he wouldn't say it, but it wasn't quite finished yet. She left it alone and decided not to tease him about it for now.
They pulled up at school, as some other kids were getting there too. Jake frowned and Bella raised a brow. "Jake?"
"Oh, it's just vampires are here." He said and looked over towards the end of the parking lot.
"Ah. You're talking about the Cullen's?" she said as she shut the engine off.
"Yeah. I don't know why it startles me every time."
"I thought you were used to them by now. You know that Alice would do nothing to hurt you right?"
"I know that. Just because I've gotten used to it doesn't mean that the other part of the tribe has," Jake said and opened his door, and getting out. He slung his red backpack on his shoulder. Bella sighed as she got out her side and pulled her messenger bag strap over her shoulder.
Alice made it over to them first. Jasper and Edward were lagging behind. Rosalie and Emmett had "graduated" and were off at "college".
"Bella!" Alice squealed and flung her arms around her.
"Alice, too tight," Bella laughed, fake coughing.
Alice released her and then she looked over at Jake and jumped up ruffling his hair barely, grinning. "Hey wolfboy," her voice sang.
"Hi Alice," Jake smiled, but rolled his eyes. Bella glanced behind them. Jasper held a tighter smile than normal, which made Bella curious as to what was going on with him.
Edward was his stoic self, staring at her, but not really saying anything to her, but she didn't really mind. They had a breakup last year, and it didn't really end well to say the least.
Bella linked her arm with Alice's, and they walked into Forks High School for the last time. This was their senior year.
The day went by in a blink. It was usual first day stuff., but Bella was glad it was over. Alice wandered over to the truck with Jake and Bella on the way out. "So, Bells, did you want to come over later? Carlisle and Esme would love to cook dinner."
"Not tonight, dad texted me and said we had to be home for an important talk about something." Bella rolled her eyes.
Alice pouted. "Well alright then. We'll have to save it for some other time then."
Bella smiled sadly and hugged Alice before hopping up in her truck. "Something is off with Jasper."
"Something is always off with Jasper. He's weird." Jake snickered.
"No really, he looked almost pained in the face today." Bella insisted as they drove back towards home.
"No, I'm not going to text Edward for you to ask him what is wrong with Jasper. Text Jasper himself. I'm sure he'll tell you what's wrong with him."
Bella sat in silence a moment and then sighed. "Right. I'll do that later."
They pulled up at the house, noting there was a car in the driveway. "I wonder who is here from Virginia?" Jake said. They hopped out and walked into the house.
There was a taller man, with sandy blond hair and blue eyes sitting at the table laughing with Charlie and Sarah, and next to him sat a blond woman. Bella looked at the man again and remembered something about him. She met him before, but where was it.
"Bella!" the man called. "You've gotten big, and Jake too."
"Uncle Ric?" Jake said, and then it hit Bella. Right, it was Uncle Ric, Charlie's baby brother.
"Yeah. I'm surprised you remember me; it has been a long time since I've made it back west. This is Elizabeth Forbes," Alaric introduced the other woman, who smiled.
"Nice to meet you," Bella said and looked at her parents. "So, what was this family meeting thing about? Alice wanted me to come have dinner over there."
Charlie nodded. "Sit down kids. We have some sort of big news."
Jake and Bella looked at each other and then sat down. Gabby was doodling on some paper, not really paying attention, but she looked up as Charlie got serious.
"So, Alaric and Liz are from Virginia. I've been offered a job there at the Sheriff's station, and your mom has been offered a teaching job at the high school. We wanted to talk to you three about it. It's a big move because of the reservation. I've spoken with Sam about this as well Jake."
Jake's eyes darted over to Liz. Alaric knew about him, but Liz didn't.
Liz spoke. "We've got some real serious issues that requires your dad's expertise. There is a reservation not far from Mystic Falls, and the tribe there has been acquainted with yours Jacob."
Charlie cleared his throat. "You wouldn't have to join, but they are there if that's something you were interested in."
Bella sat quiet for a moment and then turned and looked at Liz. "What is this issue that needs my dad's help so badly?"
Gabby looked up at Charlie and he nodded to her, and she got up and left the room sighing. "It's a supernatural issue. Mystic Falls has a problem right now with some vampires, and they're really needing help." Charlie explained.
Bella nodded. "Okay, so is it something that the Cullen's can help with too?"
"As a matter of fact, I spoke to Carlisle earlier in the day. We've offered him a position at the hospital there in Mystic Falls. He'll be moving that way shortly." Liz stated.
Bella nodded and looked to Jake. He sighed. "Well, I'm not interested in running with another pack, but I will make this move because I know it's going to have to happen and I'll be needed for this problem."
Charlie nodded. "Jake, I don't want you trying to be a hero. You're still only sixteen."
"Dad I'm a 600-pound wolf when I transform. I can handle vampires." Jake insisted.
Sarah lay a hand over her sons. "We only want you safe. If you are needed, we will discuss it later. For now, let's just start packing our things and getting the house ready to rent out or sell."
Jake nodded at his mother and then he got up from the table and raced upstairs to his room.
Bella looked at Alaric. "How bad is it Uncle Ric?"
Alaric was silent for a moment before looking at Charlie and then back at her. "It's not too good. We have a team sort of like you guys have here for in case of supernatural events occur, but it requires more than what we are able to give. Your dad is the best hunter there is when it comes to these things, and his expertise will help us train better."
Bella nodded. "Okay. Well I guess we're going to Mystic Falls, Virginia." She said and left the table.
~Mystic Falls Virginia: August 8th~
The week moved on quickly, and they were in a moving truck, sitting next to her dad, while her mom drove the SUV ahead with Gabby. It was a long road trip, one that required a lot of stopping because Gabby had to use the bathroom a lot. By the time they reached Mystic Falls it was Sunday right before noon. Bella looked at the house they were moving in to. It was colonial styled, the for rent sign was laid over on the lawn, and the realtor was there handing dad the keys. She was bubbly, with red hair. Alaric walked out of the neighboring house and walked over and kissed the woman, and then smiled at Charlie, and shook his hand.
"I'm assuming the red head is Uncle Ric's wife, and he lives next door." Bella said quietly to Jake in the moving truck.
Charlie walked back over and opened the side door and Jake hopped out and then reach up and helped Bella down. Gabby ran up the steps and into the big house. Bella and Jake followed her inside and took a look around. It was a bit bigger than what they were used to. Gabby ran around the open space giggling. Jake smiled as him and Bella climbed up the stairs to the second floor. They would stake claim to their bedrooms before Gabby could figure out there was a whole second floor to explore. Bella peaked her head into the first room on the right, it was a bit small. "This one is Gabby's." Bella said and Jake looked inside and nodded.
They walked down the hall and Bella went to the room on the left and Jake to right. Both rooms were nearly the same size, except the one that Bella went into had a bay window seat. The bathroom was adjoining to Jake's, plus there was a bathroom in the hallway.
"This is mine," Bella called and Jake walked through the bathroom into her room. "Seems fair. I have a bigger closet."
"You know that you barely wear clothes, right? You're always ripping them off when you go full wolf." Bella joked.
"Meh, still, bigger closet," she grinned, and smacked at him as he darted away into his claimed room.
Sarah made it to the top of the stairs with Gabby close behind. Gabby loved the room that was left to her as she twirled around in circles. Sarah peaked her head into Jake's room. "Jake go help your dad start unloading. Alaric gathered up some help." She then looked in on Bella. "You too missy. Go help," she said, and Bella and Jake groaned and headed downstairs.
When they got downstairs to the moving truck, Alaric had enlisted the help of his step nephew Jeremy, this football dude that they called Matt. On the truck already was the Salvatore brothers, Stefan, and Damon.
"Stefan I can lift this entire couch with one hand, stop working against me and just give me the damn thing." The darker haired one snapped.
Bella crossed her arms and looked at the brothers. Jake walked up the ramp and then just took the couch from the both of them and walked away with it leaned against his shoulder.
"Did he just?" The dark-haired vampire started.
"Hi I'm Bella. That was Jake my brother. You are the Salvatore brother's I'm assuming." Bella said and walked into the truck fully.
"I'm Stefan," Stefan stepped forward his chestnut hair complemented his green eyes. "This idiot is Damon."
Bella looked at Damon, who's piercing blue eyes seemed to stare straight into her soul. "Uh huh. Well stop fighting and help. Remember we have neighbors, so don't try to one hand anything."
"But your brother just…" Damon made a hand motion.
"Yeah, and he looks like he can lift a couch. You two, don't look like you can lift anything," Bella teased.
Stefan laughed out loud and slapped a hand on his brother's shoulder. "Okay we'll get to work miss bossy pants."
Bella rolled her eyes. Jeremy hopped up onto the truck with ease, with Matt following behind him. "Hi Bella, I don't think you remember me well, but we used to play together when you came and visited a couple times. I'm Elena's little brother."
Bella squinted and looked at Jeremy. "Jeremy, you do look a little different, but I remember playing tag with you and your sister."
"Right!" Jeremy said with a bright smile.
"This truck isn't going to unload itself," Charlie's voice called, and everyone started moving around, moving the furniture out and into the house. When the truck was emptied, Alaric closed the back door.
Everyone was inside the new house either standing or sitting on misplaced furniture, eating pizza. Bella eyed Stefan and Damon as they ate the pizza.
Damon caught her staring., but before he could say anything Stefan spoke first. "We can eat solid food. It just doesn't taste good to us. We're not like the others. We're not cold, and we love our naps."
Bella nodded and then narrowed her eyes. "How did you know what I was thinking?"
"It's written on your face. You were staring at us eating," Damon pointed out.
Sarah stood and helped Gabby upstairs. They had got her mattresses together upstairs, but they would work on the rest of the room tomorrow. Gabby frowned. She didn't want to go to bed, but she yawned anyways.
"The threats haven't retreated any. The cold one army is a real threat," Damon spoke once Gabby was safely upstairs.
"So, there are sparkly vamps here on this edge of the world too?" Jake said as he scarfed down his tenth slice of pizza.
Stefan nodded. "For some reason they're congregating here. We're not really sure why. Mostly cold ones are nomadic, as you probably already know, with the exception of a few, they typically just migrate through an area. If they do congregate, it's in smaller clans."
Charlie set down his beer. "Well, Carlisle will be here tomorrow. Jasper is trained in this area because he fought in the Southern Vampire Wars."
Damon nodded. "I know him. I fought along side with him. Major Whitlock."
Bella looked around the room. Jeremy and Matt were unphased by all the talk about vampires and cold ones.
"Well, when me and Bonnie were in the woods tracking down the one that escaped you guy's basement, we stumbled across some other evidence of witches," Jeremy said and stood. She didn't realize it before, but he looked unusually strong, and there was a large tattoo that spiraled down his arm. How did she miss that before? It was the hunter's mark, like hers, but she cloaked hers so no one would be able to see.
"So, you're saying that witches are helping here?" Charlie said, his brows furrowing.
"We're not really sure if they're helping, Bonnie isn't as strong as she should be after the incident on the island," Jeremy said.
Damon stood now. "Well one thing is for sure. Witches or not, we just need to find…better witches."
Bella cleared her throat. "Well you're looking at one. What do you think I am?"
Damon narrowed his eyes at her. "I'm not entirely sure what I thought you were. I assumed you were just along for the ride since the sheriff insisted, we needed Deputy Swan over here. I figured you were just the daughter of a hunter."
"Well, I'm not just the daughter of a hunter. I'm a witch, who happens to also be a hunter," Bella said, narrowing her eyes back at Damon.
Jeremy stood. "So, you can see my mark too? "He lifted his arm.
"Oh right, that. I can see it. Yours isn't finished like mine and my dad's," Bella said looking over at Charlie, uncloaking her mark. The spiraling mark was bold against her paler skin. Damon narrowed his eyes again at her. She was starting to intrigue him.
"I keep it hidden. I don't like to display it. Mine is complete, so mine is visible to everyone." Charlie explained when he uncloaked his mark.
Jeremy nodded a bit mesmerized. "I didn't quite complete mine yet."
"Once you complete it, everyone will be able to see it. Witches have the ability to cloak their own marks. Once you finish it I can cloak it for you so the normal world doesn't freak out. But for right now, only other hunters can see your mark." Bella explained.
Damon snorted. "We figured that part out. When we realized it wasn't finished on the island…" Damon dropped off and then he cursed and growled.
Jake went into defensive mode immediately at the same time.
Stefan held up a hand to calm everyone down. "It's Klaus. Settle down. I'm sure he's here to just be annoying."
Bella raised a brow and then moved to the front door as a hard knock sounded. She opened the door and looked at a sandy blonde-haired man with blue green eyes standing there smiling coyly. "Can we help you?"
"That's no way to greet someone," Klaus said with an arched brow. His accent made her raise a brow at him, but she didn't seem to be phased by his appearance.
"Well, the way Damon and Jake reacted, I don't have time for pleasantries. You friend or foe?" Bella said crossing her arms across her chest. She had forgotten to cloak her mark, so Klaus' eyes drifted to her arm and was then double intrigued by the fiery brunette in front of him.
"I'm a friend. I know Stefan," Klaus explained.
Bella tossed a look over at Stefan as he approached. "Yes or no?"
"Yes." Stefan said simply.
"Okay, you may come in," Bella said and watched Klaus cross the threshold. The trio walked back into the living room where everyone was gathered.
Charlie stood now looking at Klaus carefully. "I'm Charlie Swan," he extended a hand and Klaus shook it firmly and smiled.
"Pleasure to meet you. I spoke with Liz earlier at the grille, and she said she had brought someone new to town. I didn't know it was another hunter and huntress." He said looking from Charlie to Bella.
"Well, we're here to help fix some problems happening around," Bella said snatching the eleventh piece of pizza from Jake and eating it instead. Jake glared daggers at her, and she raised a brow at him, and he rolled his eyes.
"Ah, well. I just wanted to formally introduce myself. My siblings and I live not far from here. You all are welcome to drop by anytime."
Jake stood. "Alice is here," he said leaping over the back of the couch and jogging to the door to open it. Alice walked in smiling, throwing her hood back. "Bella!"
Alice flitted into the living room and saw all the people. "Oh, wow. I didn't see that there would be this many people here." Her music like voice filled the room and everyone was staring at her.
"Everyone this is Alice Cullen," Bella said and then the two girls were hugging each other. Bella laughed, and then caught Damon and Klaus' stare. Damon was doing his brooding glare at her, but Bella decided to ignore that. She turned back to Alice. "I thought Carlisle wasn't coming until tomorrow?"
"He's not. Edward and I came ahead. Jasper and Carlisle are waiting for Em and Rose to return from their hunt and then they'll head this way. They have a lot to pack." Alice explained.
Charlie stood smiling and motioned for Alice to come give him a hug. Alice flitted to him and hugged him gently. "Hey Charlie. It's good to see you!"
Charlie laughed. "Always a pleasure to see you Alice. Where's…. Edward," Charlie rolled his eyes when he said his name. He wasn't fond of Edward because of Bella and his relationship and how it had ended. He was upset with Edward, but Bella promised that she was past all that hurt.
"He's in the car. He…uh didn't want to upset Bella," Alice said, her voice dropping but half of the room was supernatural, so it really didn't understand.
Bella rolled her eyes. "For God's sake. He's an idiot." She stormed outside and to Alice's little yellow porche. She opened the passenger door. Damon and Klaus moved to the front door to witness what was happening.
"Edward get out of the car and come in the house and stop brooding. I'm not a fragile toy and I'm not broken. We have a job to do here, so stop making this weird," Bella growled at him.
Edward sighed and stood up out of the car and closed the door, looking at her with a sorry look.
"It appears that is the ex," Klaus said to Damon.
"Hmm, he isn't sparkling and it's sunny." Damon pointed out.
Klaus nodded. "He's wearing a protection ring." Klaus nodded to Edward's hand as Bella and Edward approached.
Bella paused and looked at Damon and Klaus in the doorway. "Are you two leaving together? I wasn't aware that you guys were a thing." She poked at the two.
Damon just turned around and walked back inside without a word. Klaus smirked. "Come now love, why would I want a brooding man such as Damon, when I can have a beautiful woman such as yourself."
"Flattery gets you nowhere," Bella said back. Edward walked inside to get away from the intense staring Klaus and Bella were doing.
Bella then rolled her eyes and started back in the house, but Klaus made it hard for her to walk in without brushing against him. Klaus breathed in her scent, but he let her past. "Well, I'll be leaving then. Have a good night little Swan," Klaus called over his shoulder.
Bella watched him leave and then shook her head before closing the door. She made it back into the living room and saw Matt and Jeremy standing to leave. Uncle Ric was leaving as well.
"You guys leaving?"
"Yeah, school in the morning, and I have some homework I have to finish before it gets late," Jeremy said.
Alaric smiled. "I'll see you in history Jake, Bells." He said and left with Matt and Jeremy. Bella looked at the rest of the room. Just her brother, the Salvatore brothers were sitting around the living room. Her dad had left the living room in that short time, apparently with Alice to the kitchen. Edward stood over off in the corner away from everyone else.
"Okay, well, you guys look super boring," Bella pointed out and then her dad and Alice returned. "Oh Alice, where is your ring?"
"Oh! The stone shattered. There was an incident, and um well, now I have to stay hooded in the daylight."
Bella smiled. "It's okay. Come upstairs to my room. I have what we need for a new one luckily." She looked to Jake and then to the Salvatore brothers before moving towards the stairs with Alice following her.
Bella rummaged through an old antiqued box. She pulled out a bright sunstone and a small silver ring. She lay the items on the table at first and then went and grabbed her large cast iron bowl and then murmured an incantment and flames jumped alive in the bowl. Then she took the two items and put them in the bowl. "Adiuro anulum ex frigore morsque iam non ambuletis!" Bella spoke and the flames turned a bright blue before withering away, leaving the ring united with the sunstone. Bella reached into the bowl and pulled it out and turned and gave it to Alice. "There you go!"
Alice smiled, slipping the ring on her hand, her appearance changing. Her skin not pale anymore, and the flush came into her cheeks, and her dark doe brown eyes twinkled. She flung her arms around Bella. "Thank you!"
Bella laughed and hugged her friend back. "Of course," she said and the two walked back downstairs. Everyone was so broody and quiet. "So, are you guys going to sit around and stare at each other?"
Stefan stood and smiled. "No we were just waiting for you to return. Damon and I are going head back home. I'll see you at school tomorrow Bella," Stefan said and started to the door.
Damon raised a brow and then sighed, standing up. He walked over to Bella, getting close to her, his icy eyes staring down into her dark ones. "Word of advice. Don't trust the original vamps. They're trouble."
Bella didn't flinch, nor did she take her eyes from Damon's. "Well. I didn't complete my hunter's mark by trusting every vampire. Have a good night Mr. Salvatore." Bella said, emphasizing the "Mr" part. Damon narrowed his eyes again before walking away from Bella and followed Stefan out the door.
Alice snickered once they were gone and Charlie laughed. "Damn Bella, you are feisty today, but calm down. We're all on the same side here." Charlie said, plopping down next to Jake on the couch, opening a beer.
Edward pushed away out of the corner. "Alice, we should be going. We have some papers to fill out with Jenna about the new house purchase."
"Oh! I almost forgot. Silly me," Alice said smiling. "Bye Bella, Jake, Charlie!" She called as she followed Edward out to her car.
Once everyone was gone, Bella cloaked her mark and then plopped down in the big beige suede armchair. "Well, that was tiring. I'm going to take a shower and then try to rummage through clothes for tomorrow." Bella said standing up shortly after sitting down.
Jake groaned. "Ugh school."
Charlie laughed. "Both of you. Go clean up and get some sleep. You're going to need all the rest you can get."
Bella smiled and then walked over and kissed her dad's cheek. "Will do dad. Love you, goodnight!" she called and bounded up the stairs with Jake behind her quickly.
"Jake, I'll shower in the hall shower if you want to shower in the other one." Bella offered.
"Sure, thanks Bells," Jake said, ruffling her hair and rushing into his room before she could smack at him.
Bella went into her room and shut the door and started rummaging through her bags to gather her clothes up. When she leaned up Edward opened the window and climbed inside. She arched her brow at him. "You know, there is a door downstairs. All you had to say is you needed to speak with me."
"Habit I suppose." He muttered.
"Why are you here Edward?"
"I just wanted to let you know about what Damon Salvatore was thinking."
"Uh huh. Well, I'm not interested in knowing every little detail that goes on in that head of his. It's actually a breach of privacy. You should get out of that habit too by the way," she said and dug in another bag, pulling panties for it.
"He's telling the truth when it comes to the original vamps. He's genuinely worried about Klaus."
Bella sighed. "You know I can handle Klaus. I'm not a stupid little girl that falls in love because a big sexy vamp has walked through the door."
Edward winced. "I know. But…just be careful."
"Edward, you lost the right be worry or even care about me. When you left me in the woods to myself, catatonic looking for you. I'm a strong woman, and you broke me and left me in pieces. I had to glue myself together. I've glued, and fixed. I don't need you waltzing around thinking it's okay to open my windows and let yourself in because you care now what happens to me," She all but spat the words out at him.
"I'm sorry Bella. I never really meant to…"
"To what? Hurt me? But wasn't that your goal? You wanted me to get over you. I got over you. Deal with it."
Edward nodded. "Good night Bella."
Bella watched him leave. Once he was gone Bella plopped down on the mattress, frustrated. Her phone dinged and she reached over and picked it up, checking the text. It was Alice wishing her a good night. She smiled and text her back quickly and then she mustered up the energy and opened the door to the hallway and walked to the bathroom. The shower was nice and open. There wasn't a tub and she was sure that Gabby would hate that part about this bathroom. At least there was a tub downstairs for her to take her bubble baths.
Bella didn't realize that her muscles were so sore when the hot water hit them, the tension started melting away. She didn't spend long in the shower before she got out, towel dried her hair, and then brushed her teeth before going back to her room and collapsing on the bed, face first.
She was asleep before long; her dreams empty for once.
