The Isolation Cell
It paid to have strange friends in low places. Hermione Granger begs a favor from Nick Fury, just one favor. It held a Joten, then an Asgardian, surely it can easily hold an Alpha male werewolf! Alternate Universe, Alternate Timeline, time travel, cross-over with Marvel. Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, Dora Tonks, and Alastair Moody live. Snapeš¢ and Dumbledore still die.
Fenrir Greyback opened his eyes and sat up slowly. He looked around, bewildered. Then he saw her. The beautiful little witch who was his prey. Hermione Granger. She was just standing there watching him. He rose to his feet cautiously. There was a massive black man standing behind her. He was bald, wearing a black trench coat and an eye patch. Fenrir suddenly rushed her. He didn't need a wand to apparate and he was going to take her back with him!
He was right at her when he was thrown back and a shock seemed to go through his body. Snarling, he stumbled but kept his footing. He moved closer and held his hand out. He jumped as it hit a barrier. Now he could see it. It looked like a little circle of glass, all around him. He slammed his hands on it. It didn't break. He drew back his foot and kicked it as hard as he could. It didn't do a bit of damage!
"Well, Hermione. It looks like it's going to hold. Think it'll hold him for full moon? That's only four days away, you know." Nick Fury looked down at the young witch by his side. She was staring at their 'guest' pensively.
"It held Loki, then Thor. I'm quite sure it'll hold Greyback, even when he transforms." She watched as the puzzled werewolf kept hitting and kicking various spots along the glass, looking for weaknesses. "Thank you for loaning me the helicarrier. Has the bracelet been finished yet? That's the part I'm worried about. Will it really help control his actions?"
"Yes. It will send a pulse through his body every few minutes. When the urge to get violent occurs, it will send a shockwave through him. He will, or ought to, drop for a few minutes. That allows you time to get into a room and barricade the door before he can catch you." Fury said. He held out a gold band, showing her how it fastened and unfastened. "Of course, you know now, that you don't HAVE to let him out of the tank at all. Promise me, if you think the bracelet isn't helping, promise me you'll call me and I'll bring my team and we'll get him back in the cage for you. Promise me, Hermione."
Hermione looked up at him. "I promise, Nick. If I think the bracelet can't handle him and I'm in danger, I'll call you in and you can cage him for me." The towering man had been one of her dad's best friends and she knew he was the perfect one to help her with Greyback.
Greyback had, by now, wandered around the whole glass cage and was standing motionless in the middle, staring intently at her. As she glanced at him, he smiled cruelly as he raked a nail across his neck.
"Shall we give him a view, dear?" Fury stood with his hand on the controls. Hermione nodded, wanting to see how Greyback reacted. Fury pushed a button. At first, Greyback didn't move, until he looked down and realized the floor was opening up under him. Then he jumped to the side as he panted in sudden fear. 'What the actual FUCK-?!' all he could see below him were clouds! Then the cage lurched. He growled as he realized there was almost no handhold anywhere! They were going to dump him into open space?! There was a cot attached to the side and that was what he ended up latching onto. He glared angrily at her and the man.
"Oh, dear, I don't think he liked that too well." Hermione laughed. Fury shook with amusement. "No, no he did not! All right, you know the controls. I've closed off all the rooms except the kitchen, two bedrooms, two bathrooms and this room. There are TV's in all the rooms. The control room is closed off and the helicarrier is on auto pilot. All the TVs are connected to Avengers Tower and I'll be there if you need me. I'll check in once a day. If you miss the connection three times, going fine or not, I'm coming in here, guns blazing, and throwing his ass back in that cage. Agreed?"
"Agreed and again thank you for landing me the helicarrier and the cage. If this experiment works the way everyone is hoping it will, this could be a major turning point in the Wizarding war." She closed her eyes, thinking of her friends back home.
"So, what is the point of this experiment, anyway? You didn't tell me much on the phone." Nick laid a hand on her shoulder as she let out a shuddering breath.
"The man we are fighting against has recruited all manner of magical creatures to his side. But the largest number of them are werewolves of which Greyback is the Alpha, their leader. The Order managed to take him down in a raid. It only took ten men to knock him out, I'm told. I made the mistake, one day, of mentioning that it was too bad we didn't have someone fairly close to the Inner Circle, except Snape. We could take someone hostage, isolate them, get them attached to one person, dependent on that person and foster Stockholm Syndrome in them. Then we could turn them to our side of the war. I thought they would go after a Death Eater and isolate him there at headquarters. I certainly didn't think I'd be the one assigned to take care of them. But here we are, a werewolf is my hostage and lucky, ducky me gets to attempt to get Fenrir Greyback attached to me enough that he'll turn his back and his packs backs on the Dark Lord." She shook her head disbelievingly. Nick listened silently to her tale.
"Well, I must say, I don't like this plan at all! But I also know, if there's ANYONE who can pull this off, Hermione, it's you!" Fury very rarely paid compliments so Hermione took it seriously. They watched the werewolf a minute longer, then walked out into the hallway.
"I'm going to put the bracelet on him tonight but I'll leave him in the cage. I thought about seeing if you would come back tomorrow and bring the team with you. I'm going to check in with Phoenix headquarters after I inform Greyback about a couple of things. Seeing you and the rest of them might make him more wary around me, especially as I don't plan to tell him that he and I will be the only ones on board. I'm going to let him think the rest of you are on a different level below us. Keep him on his toes, so to speak." Nick nodded, he liked the sound of THAT plan much better!
"Are you absolutely positive you don't need me to stay with you?" Fury asked one last time.
"I'm sure. Don't worry about me. I'll get the bracelet on him and I'll check in once a day. Hopefully, it won't take too long to get this over with." She turned and hugged him. It went without saying that she was terrified of being alone with the wolf. From what he was told, she'd had a couple of close calls with this wolf. He squeezed her gently, then sat her down and went down the hall to the exit. He paused and looked back at her. She smiled bravely and waved him on.
After Fury was out of sight, Hermione slumped against the wall. 'God, what was the Order thinking?!' she hadn't known until just now who her captive was. They'd kept him under wraps, in case the Dark Lord caught wind of their plan. All she'd known was he was tall and broad. She'd assumed it was actually Thorfinn Rowle they'd captured. He had the same hulking build! She certainly hadn't expected FENRIR GREYBACK! She knew, if Harry and Ron had been at the meeting when they found out who the hostage was, they would be having kittens right about now! They knew how much Greyback terrified her! He'd threatened to eat her on more than one occasion!
She took a deep breath, gathered all her Gryffindor courage and went back into the room. She walked over to the door and waited until he moved closer to it. Once they were face to face, she could easily say he was, at least, a foot taller than her. He propped his arms on the wall and stared down at her.
"I know you're probably wondering what you're doing here, especially with me. I'll explain everything in detail tomorrow but for now, I need you to trust me." She pushed a button on the side of the door and a partition opened up. It was just big enough to send a food tray through. He immediately reached through and latched onto the front of her shirt, pulling her flush against the door. "You can hang onto me all you like, Greyback, it won't make me open this door any faster. It won't open until I know you won't try and hurt me. That's what this little beauty is for." She held up the gold band. He stared at it curiously. "You will let me put this on you or you can stay in there the whole time we're here." She gave him a few minutes to think it over. She was slightly nervous because he had yet to say a single word. His silence was more unnerving than his boasts of 'claiming her' from Bella in order to have her at his mercy!
Greyback wasn't sure what the hell was going on here, but he did know he wanted out of this damn cage! If putting on the bloody little bracelet would get him out of here faster, then so be it! He loosened up on her shirt and held his arm up for her. "You will stay in here tonight, but tomorrow morning I'll tell you everything you want to know. But I have a couple of things I need to tell you right now because I need answers from you. 'The war is over, Voldemort won, Scabior fell off a bridge and died, you and the rest of your pups were killed as soon as he had no more need of you.' Let those facts sink in tonight and I'll tell you what they mean tomorrow. Good night, Greyback." With that, Hermione snapped the bracelet onto his arm, turned around, dimmed the lights to allow him to rest easy and left the room, leaving behind a stunned werewolf.
She went down the steps, crossed the metal bridge to the living space provided and walked over to the wide screen TV mounted on the wall. She turned it on and adjusted the channel. "Phoenix headquarters." She commanded. The screen lit up and before she could say a word, "Hermione! Are you ok? He hasn't hurt you, has he?" Harry and Ron were tumbling over each other to be the first ones to speak to her. She had to laugh, she was so relieved by the sight of them. They made this whole ordeal suddenly seem worth all the trouble, especially seeing Harry alive and well. Just then Moody stomped into sight.
"Well, girl, what's the news? How is he taking it? Has he agreed to anything yet?" he demanded.
"No news yet. He's only woken up a few minutes ago. He's rather stunned and bewildered at the present time. I have given him the bare bones of what happened to him and his pack but I haven't fully explained everything to him yet. That can be told to him tomorrow after he's had time to ponder the facts I gave him. By then, he'll also have had time to evaluate his priorities and make some decisions."
Moody nodded approvingly. "I told you that you were the right person for this job. I was right, wasn't I?"
"Hermione, how are you, pet? The big, bad wolf hasn't eaten you, I see." Sirius Black teased her as he bounded into view, Remus on his heels.
"Hermione, lovely to see you, sweetheart." Remus told her with a small smile.
"Wotcher, Hermione! Look, Teddykins, its Auntie Hermione! Say hello, baby." Tonks carried the baby in and waved one of his little hands at Hermione, who felt herself melting at the sight of the tiny shape shifter.
The last one into view was Kingsley Shacklebolt. He towered over everyone, much the same as Nick towered over every Avenger except Thor. "So, dear, how goes it? Are you settling in okay? Is he settled in? He hasn't given you any trouble, has he?"
"No, he's just woken up. He grabbed my shirt and pulled me close, luckily there was a door there and I took the liberty of putting up anti apparation charms over the whole helicarrier. Else he was probably going to attempt to escape with me. I left him with some cold hard facts to sleep on tonight and he has yet to say a single word to me." Hermione shivered as she was giving her report.
"All right, how do we proceed with this?" Moody pondered.
"I've called for my friends over here to come back tomorrow and I'll fully explain to Greyback what's happened and still happening. I'll put you up on the screen so you and Kingsley can have a say in the situation as well." They nodded and she signed off. She went to take a shower and try to get some rest. Tomorrow was promising to be a long, wild day.
