Chapter Three
It had been two weeks since Alec found Sienna on his mission and another week since returning to the Institute with her. For three weeks, she has been unconscious, and since their return has been in the infirmary.
Alec had just woken up to get ready for his visit to the infirmary before his morning training. He noticed the healers outside, seemingly tense and whispering to each other.
"What is happening?" Alec's voice boomed through the corridor as he approached.
"Sir, the girl just woke up. She saw us and just started panicking, glass and tools flying everywhere!" One of the healers explained.
Alec opened the door to the room and noticed the mess all around and that Sienna was huddled in a ball in the corner of the room. He kicked some of the glass away and knelt down in front of her. It seemed like nothing was going to start flying at him, so he took that as a good sign.
"Sienna, you remember me, right?" Alec asked in a gentle tone as he watched her.
Turning her head up slightly, she looked at him through squinted eyes - not accustomed to the hard white lights of the room. Alec could make out the purple glow of her eyes and the familiar magic tickling its way around him as she nodded.
Alec sighed and offered her his hand as he stood up, "We're at the New York Institute, I brought you back here after we made it through the portal."
Sienna eyed his hand warily but took it, and he helped her to her feet. "The people that were in here are our Healers, you've been out for three weeks now. Ever since we made it through the portal," he spoke quietly as he helped her to sit on the bed.
They were silent as she soaked in what he said and looked around the room guiltily and down at the tubes that stuck from her arms.
"Are you able to talk?" Alec asked as he took her arm and removed the tubes that seemed to distress her.
'No, cannot use voice,' she responded to him weakly. She pointed her index finger at the mess of glass on the floor and twirled her finger. Within moments the broken pieces began to float and reform their original shapes and were returned to their original places.
Alec watched her with curious eyes. As she sensed the questions swirling his mind, he began to ask, "Why aren't you able to? You're not a Downworlder or Shadowhunter, so how can you use magic?"
Sienna intertwined her fingers and cast her eyes towards the floor, 'Spell makes me not able to talk. Magic is from Angel blood; I do not know why.'
Alec nodded and stood up, "You are welcomed to stay here at the Institute, the higher-ups have already approved it. I will show you to your room if you'd follow," he motioned for her to follow him past the Healers. She nodded and quickly followed him, holding the sleeves of the shirt as she shied away from the other's that walked past.
"Hey, look who finally woke up," a blonde man approached the pair. The suddenness of his action had her holding onto Alec's arm with her brows furrowed. The man's confidence had Sienna's heart-rate spike from uneasiness.
"Jace, this is Sienna. Sienna, this is Jace, my brother," he introduced.
Noticing the three of them standing together, Isabelle rushed over. She took hold of Sienna's shoulder's, "It's good to finally see you awake, I'm Isabelle, but you can call me Izzy."
"Izzy, you shouldn't go around grabbing strangers like that," Alec sighed exasperatedly. Sienna looked between Izzy and Jace with wide eyes and kept her hold on Alec.
"My brother is always serious. I'll show you to your room," Isabelle exclaimed. She pulled Sienna down the hall from the men, excited to have another female around the Institute.
"So, this is your room, mine is to the right, Alec's is across, and Jace is just down on the left. If you need anything, feel free to come to find me," Isabelle explained as she opened the door to the bedroom. The room itself was fairly dark, the walls were painted a navy blue, but the wall opposite of the door was made entirely of glass that looked out into the courtyard. The room had the basics aside from that, a bed against the opposite wall, a closet, and a dresser.
"There are some clothes for you in the closet and dresser, we'll have to go shopping as soon as you're up for it! Over here is a bathroom, and this door is the closet." Isabelle explained that when she was done her tour, she noticed the overwhelming expression on Sienna's face.
'Thank you, Isabelle. Hope it's not trouble me being here,' Sienna's voice echoed through Isabelle's head, catching her off guard for a moment.
She quickly recovered and smiled brightly, "Of course it isn't, I hope you enjoy it here. It would be great to have another girl around here."
Sienna nodded and looked around before moving to sit on the bed. She ran her fingers against the blanket, her magic danced around the room, able to feel that Isabelle had done a lot of the redecorating.
"Well, I'll let you sleep. When you are hungry, the kitchen or cafeteria is down the hall we came from and to the right," Isabelle explained before she gave her a small wave and left.
Sienna, Clary, and Jace stood outside of the club Hardtail, waiting in line with the Downworlder's to get access to the party.
"Do you think red's my colour?" Isabelle asked as she and Alec approached their group, her hands ogling the necklace on her chest. "I make this necklace look so good," Isabelle cooed.
"Will you take it off? I'm certain Magnus Bane doesn't want drool on his ruby when we make the exchange." Alec demanded, annoyance dripping out of his voice.
"You know, I wouldn't be so sure. Most men like it when I admire their jewel," Isabelle wink at the girls, and Jace turned away laughing.
Alec's expression was hard as he stared at his sister, "Can you just give it to Jace?"
"You are such a buzzkill," Isabelle sighed as she handed it to Jace.
As the group approached, the front Sienna was the first to step in, and the loud music boomed around them while the rave lights bounced from square to square.
"Blend in, but keep your weapons ready," Alec told the group as he split off with Clary. Isabelle disappeared into the crowd, leaving Sienna to pull Alec to a stairwell where they could overlook the party.
Alec leaned against the wall, keeping an eye out down below as the group of them waited for Magnus to appear. Isabelle was dancing in a crowd with Downworlder men while Jace and Clary were sitting in a booth.
'Being alert is good, but if you are too tense, you're going to hurt yourself,' Sienna scolded as she leaned against the railing.
"Why did you want to come out here?" Alec asked disapprovingly while watching her eyes sparkle with the club's lights.
Sienna glanced back at Alec, squeezing the railing before turning to cross her arms and looking at him. 'When you found me, in the middle of nowhere surrounded by demons. That was the only place I had ever been safe up to that point, no Shadowhunter would have searched for me there.'
Alec's eye twitched as he motioned for her to the spot beside him against the wall, which she moved over to lean against. "What do you mean, Shadowhunter's were looking for you?"
Sienna cast her eyes to the ground as she kicked her foot before looking up into his dark eyes, 'Valentine held me captive for 17 years. He had warlocks and witches cast spells on me, experimented on me to turn me into his weapon. I escaped around three years ago and had been hiding since.' She explained, and at her explanation, Alec's eyes immediately filled with distrust and betrayal.
"You were with Valentine for seventeen years? Why didn't you tell us this earlier?" His voice began to rise, but his attention was caught by a portal illuminating the room down below.
As Sienna caught sight of Magnus, she left Alec there and approached the group down below as an arrow flew past her. Jace and Clary's attention snapped to the dead circle member as Alec rushed down.
"Valentine found us, I warned your mother this might happen," Magnus's voice became panicked as he recognized the short girl. He offered her his hand, and she quickly took it before they were both pulled into the portal.
Leaving the group of Shadowhunter's there in the club.
"The area's secure. Looks like he was the only assassin," Isabelle explained as she looked at the other two boys and Clary, "Where's Si?"
"They found us. It's not safe here. Clary, Isabelle, we have to go. Clary!" Jace yelled to grab her attention, and Isabelle dragged Clary from the club.
"Jace," Isabelle called out as Clary leaned against the cold brick.
"Clary, we have to move," Jace walked over to the girls.
"I'm catching my breath," Clary leaned her hands down on to her knees.
"You know, this is great. Not only did Magnus not get the girl her memories back, he took the necklace and Sienna. This is fantastic–."
"Alec, the girl, her name is Clary, and I highly suggest you keep your voice down," Jace cut his brother off swiftly.
"Why? What, are you afraid I'm going to upset her? We have risked our lives again and again for this girl, and where has it gotten us? Nowhere. We're no closer to getting the Mortal Cup, we've lost the Institute's necklace, and Sienna went with Magnus!" Alec shouted at Jace.
Clary pushed herself forward and stepped between the two men arguing, 'Hey, I am right here. I don't care about your damn jewelry. I'm sorry you're gonna look bad in front of your bosses, okay? But my mother is still missing and my… my last chance at finding her just disappeared into thin air with Si!"
Jace put a hand on Clary's shoulder to calm her down, which only resulted in her shrugging him off and continuing to pace and panic, "Clary, it's gonna be fine."
"No, it's not. People are dying because of me. And Magnus? Magnus will never come out of hiding again while Valentine is still after him. He won't let Sienna leave with that risk, we're never going to find him. And I will… I will never get my memories back!" Clary threw the cuff link of Magnus's jacket in her frustration, which Jace quickly caught.
He held it up and then walked away, shaking his head, "You give up way too easy."
"What is he doing?" Clary looked at Isabelle as Alec walked over to join him.
"They're tracking Magnus," Isabelle smiled brightly at the evidence of their mission and recovery of their friend looking brighter.
