Several people had mentioned how difficult it was to read the original, so I asked for help with the editing of this story and I truly hope you all can finally read this without cringing and possible nightmares.
Reader's Note: Even though much of the detail has been removed, this story still has references to and some details of a sexual assault. The Legacy of Dark Endymion
Part One: Dark Endymion Takes Usagi
Prologue
Taken
Usagi sat up in her bed, sobbing. Again. As she looked around her room, she noticed the frilly pinkness of everything, and wondered if she would ever feel happy again. With Mamoru taken, nothing could be right. It was the worst thing she had faced in a very long time. It felt like half of her soul was missing. She didn't fully understand it, but she knew she hated it.
'Nothing could feel worse than this moment. Nothing,' she thought, not knowing just how wrong she could be.
Her mind wandered back over everything that had happened. It had all started shortly after August vacation had ended, as school reopened after their three-week holiday. Their second day back, Usagi had woken up late, which meant she had been in just the right place at the right time to save Luna from a group of younger boys who had been putting Band-Aids on her head and teasing her. From the very first moment she had felt a strange connection to the little black cat with the crescent moon on her forehead. She sighed, flipping her day planner closed. September second had also been the day she'd met Mamoru, and now that he was gone, she didn't want the reminder.
'Mamo-chan,' she thought wistfully. While their first meeting hadn't exactly gone well, when they had finally learned about one another they had formed a nearly instant bond. One that she still felt, though muted somehow. Besides, Mamoru had redeemed himself again and again as Tuxedo Kamen, starting from that very night. How many times had he helped her, encouraged her, saved her? She might not have saved Naru without him. Somewhere down deep, even in the very beginning when they were constantly arguing, she knew she could trust him.
Thankfully Ami had soon joined her, and then one by one, Rei, Makoto, and Minako had found them. With their team set, Usagi had been so sure that they would find a way to defeat the Negaverse and make Tokyo safe again. Now, she wasn't sure she could make it through the next day.
There had been a battle. And then it happened. Trying to protect her, again, Tuxedo Kamen had died. And when she had cried, the Crystal was formed from her tear, and a piece of it went into him. She'd prayed as hard as she could that the crystal would protect him and make him better. But he'd been taken from her by the dark general Kunzite, and hadn't come back. Usagi sniffled. She didn't even know for sure that he was alive. And what if he was tortured? Or killed?
That night Usagi and the others had gone to the police and told them Mamoru had been taken by a crazy man. They let them believe they had passed out with everyone else in the city, and that when they had woken up a masked man had come running at them, talking nonsense, and had taken Mamoru away at gunpoint. Usagi hated to lie, they all did, but it was the only option they could think of. She had to believe there was a way to get him back and she didn't want him to get kicked out of school because he didn't show up.
Not that the police had been able to do anything. There was nothing to go on. And with Tokyo overwhelmed by Youma attacks, they had their hands full already. So Usagi had let his school know, through Motoki, and then she had come home.
By the next morning she had started to change. Her hair grew longer and silver strands started to appear. At the same time, her body started to develop faster, as if it wanted to hurry up and mature to what it had been at the time of her death in the Millennial Kingdom. They had gone to the moon to ask Queen Serenity for help, but there was nothing she could do to save Mamoru. It was up to Usagi.
And he was three times her love. Mamoru. Tuxedo Kamen. Endymion. Whatever his name had once been, he was Mamoru to her. Her Mamo-chan. It was awful not knowing where he was, or what he was going through. Was he okay, or even alive?
And then she saw him.
Even though he was calling himself Endo, and didn't seem to recognize her, she knew it was him. He'd started working at the arcade with Motoki, and she'd been there most of the weekend. He kept coming up to her, asking questions and playing with her hair. He had even played the Sailor V game with her. He looked, smelled, and even felt like Mamo-chan... but it wasn't him, not in his mind. Something was wrong with him. Whoever he had become, there was darkness inside. Scary deep darkness, and just once she had seen a glimpse, the tiniest glimpse, of Mamoru in his eyes. So even though she knew it was stupid, she was going back to the arcade again. If there was anything left of Mamoru inside that man, she would find a way to save him.
