Piper can't give Percy and Annabeth their space, but surely it's fine as long as they don't find out?
Piper's POV
Piper couldn't take her eyes off of them. She refused to give them any privacy, simply because she absolutely adored Percy and Annabeth's relationship. There was apoint where she camped out right at the edge of the woods, which gave out to the yellow sand of Camp Half-Blood's beach.
The early afternoon sun shone brightly in the baby blue sky; its rays covered everything in sight, excluding Piper, who had sought out refuge in the shadows of the thick palm trees.
Unfortunately, Piper was unable to escape the sweltering heat and sweat patches were forming on her shirt as she continued to peer into the distance- right where the waves lapped against the shore, sat Percy and Annabeth, side-by-side, with their backs towards her.
The water was a brilliant sea-green in the sun. The same colour as Percy's eyes, Piper thought. Before she realised she had clearly spent way too much time with Annabeth for her own good.
Both Percy and Annabeth were dressed in their orange camp shirts. Annabeth wore jean shorts and her gray sandals while Percy sat in his trunks, but there was no way of telling whether he had already been for a swim since the sons of Poseidon can't get wet.
From her view inbetween tree trunks, they sat with their legs stretched out, arms down by their sides with Annabeth resting her head on Percy's shoulder, her curly blonde hair falling loosely down her back.
There wasn't anyone else around, apart from them. Everyone else had their regular afternoon activities. It had been more than a week since Piper and her friends had defeated Gaia, and Chiron was keen for everyone to get back into the swing of things, especially Percy and Annabeth.
Ever since Tartarus, they had been inseparable. Piper couldn't blame them, she hadn't been to hell and back.
Yet.
From what she had heard though, mostly from Annabeth, that wasn't something she would ever want to go through. They seemed much more relaxed the last few days, especially since Annabeth decided she would finish her senior year in New York with Percy. She had mentioned to Piper they would be leaving camp in a few days, right before school started.
At the moment, they were completely unaware of Piper's presence, but she couldn't risk getting any closer in fear they would catch her eavesdropping. She was struggling as it was though, to keep up with their conversation and she silently cursed Aphrodite for not gifting her with god-like hearing. Surely her mom would consider such an ability necessary in order for her children to keep up with their favourite couples? However, from what she could hear, Percy and Annabeth were deep in conversation about something that went on last night.
"I keep having that dream." She could hear Percy complain, but it wasn't his usual light-hearted tone.
For someone who was known for being goofy, Percy Jackson hadn't spent much time horsing around lately. He had mostly kept to Annabeth since the war with the giants ended.
"It'll get better Seaweed Brain, just give it time." Annabeth assured Percy.
"Yeah, but I'm scared Annabeth, don't you get it? I can't lose you again!" Pery cried.
The desperation in Percy's voice seemed so genuine. It made Piper feel guilty she was eavesdropping on such a vulnerable and private moment. She shifted uncomfortably in her hiding spot, maybe she should have given them some privacy?
"You're not going to lose me. Not now, not ever. Okay? I promise." Annabeth sounded so sure, Piper wanted to believe her.
She would have made an excellent daughter of Aphrodite, especially with charmspeak. Even though, she sounded so confident, Piper knew the one thing that Annabeth was terrified of. Her biggest fear was if Percy and her getting seperated again. Their feelings for one another only grew stronger when Percy went missing. They were constantly by each other's side, some of the other campers didn't understand why they were always together, but Piper did. Even before going through Tartarus, Piper could see Percy and Annabeth had something special.
It made her sad to see both her friends struggle to cope with the after-effects of being in hell, both trying their best to hold it together for the other. She was sure they would get over it eventually.
"Okay," Percy replied, jolting Piper back to the present.
There was a faint smile on his face as he turned to look at Annabeth, before adding, "You know I'm gonna hold you to it."
"I wouldn't have it any other way Seaweed Brain." Annabeth agreed.
Annabeth sighed contently before placing her head back down on his shoulder as Percy laced their fingers together.
A minute passed, and it seemed like Percy hadn't quite finished.
"You know I love you right?" Percy questioned in a statement form.
"I know, and I love you," She replied, her voice soft. "It's going to be okay alright? We're home now, remember?"
Piper had never known Annabeth to be this gentle or patient with anyone, in fact, it almost made her jealous enough to want to ask Percy what he'd done to get her to treat him like that. Annabeth removed her head from Percy's shoulder and he turned to look at her, searching her intelligent grey eyes.
"Yeah, alright." He whispered, his voice as gentle as the ocean breeze, and Piper had to strain to be able to hear him.
Percy turned to face the horizon-where his father's domain met the sky. The mood was lighter than before; Piper herself, felt more relaxed, he tension in the air had lifted. Annabeth stretched her legs out in front, her sandals touching the tips of the waves, as she leaned over to kiss Percy on the cheek. Percy turned to his side as well and turned it into a proper kiss. Annabeth's hands found their way to his dark messy hair and Piper was struggling to contain herself. She was swooning! Her inner-Aphrodite wanted to squeal at how adorable they were, especially now that Annabeth had made herself comfortable on Percy's lap. He sat cross-legged, while they lengthened the kiss, neither looked like they were going to break away.
Piper admired how strong they were for each other, how they managed to pull through countless of difficulties they've faced and she was convinced that Percy and Annabeth were deeply in love because of it- which was probably why her mom was obsessed with their relationship, Aphrodite had always been fascinated by 'interesting' love stories.
But if anyone deserved a happy ending, it was Percy and Annabeth, two of the bravest people she knew. Plus, they really were such a cute couple!
They were still making out and Piper was almost sure they had beaten their previous record of 'longest kiss in front of Piper'- back when they were in the Acropolis. She sighed out loud at the thought, but surely not loud enough for them to have heard?
Apparently, they had.
Annabeth pulled away from Percy and looked straight at her.
Uh oh.
Piper's body wouldn't respond- there was nowhere to hide from an Annabeth Chase death stare.
"Next time you wanna eavesdrop Pipes, leave before we kiss! The only reason we put up with you is when you stay quiet!" The scary blonde girl glared, her grey eyes bore into Piper.
If looks could kill, Piper would have died a million times over.
Percy turned around and gave her an apologetic smile, before going back to Annabeth in an attempt to distract her with kisses, giving Piper ample time for her getaway. Though all she could think about was how much she was not looking forward to the campfire later tonight.
Next time, she thought as she hurried back to her cabin, I'm spying on Katie and Travis...
