Complicated

Disclaimer: Nope, I still don't own any of them.

Her parent's relationship started to become complicated when she was around 8 years old. Irene Wayne was the only child of what used to be Gotham's power couple. Bruce and Diana Wayne's divorce was highly publicized. Of course it was, they were the wedding of the century. The Amazonian Princess was settling down with the Playboy Billionaire of Gotham.

The moment their relationship became official, the media went crazy and was constantly looking for something to report; why and how did the two get together, were they having a boy or a girl, why were they separating, who cheated on who. The list was endless, every information they got whether it was true or not was posted on every newspaper and websites. Even after their divorce the reports didn't stop. Somewhere out there someone was looking for a scoop about their relationship, questions like are they getting back together or the media going wild whenever Bruce or Diana was with someone of the opposite gender.

"It's like I'm dealing with a child! I have better conversations with Irene!" She snapped at him as they were marching through their bedroom. A room they've been sharing since she moved in, a room that was once filled with love and passion but now it was just a room where they sleep together. They haven't been physical for the last few months, he's been busy with Gotham both as Bruce Wayne and Batman while she's been focused on her Ambassador and League duties. Surprisingly, despite their busy schedules they were still able to give enough time to their daughter but never to each other.

"Leave it be Diana." He said as he clenched his jaw. Changing from his sweaty shirt he wore under the Batsuit to a nice and clean white V-neck.

Along with not being able to be intimate with each other, they've been fighting a lot recently too, over the biggest and smallest things.

"I'm not going to leave it be. You said that you were going to spend some time with Irene and not go on patrol tonight." She crosses her arms as she impatiently taps her foot, not looking away from her husband.

He goes into the bathroom but still continued to argue with her. "And I told you, I had to go on patrol tonight because both Dick and Barbara became unavailable. I can't leave Gotham unsupervised for one night." He comes out and looks at Diana "And you know what happens when Gotham is unsupervised even just for a second."

"Oh, I know what happens." She rolled her eyes at him. "You being on patrol is not the problem, the problem is promising Irene that you were going to be here tonight!" She said as she started to pace around the room.

"Alright, I'll make it up to her tomorrow." He said as he grinded his teeth, hoping to stop this argument before it even begins.

"And you didn't even tell me that you were going on patrol. You could've said something before you left!"

What is it with her tonight? He couldn't take this right now; he didn't want to fight again. He decided to head out the room without uttering another word.

She scoffs sarcastically "Typical Batman tactic when facing a Meta. Evade and Run."

He tries not to let that affect him, but he couldn't help but reply back. "If you're done with your raging hormones, you can apologize to me at the cave." He said as he goes past her, not looking at her. He couldn't deal with this right now; a migraine was slowly creeping up to his head at the end of his patrol and an angry Amazon is not going to help at all.

As he reaches for the doorknob, he hears her whisper. "You told me before that for us to be together I need to support you and your mission with Gotham." She said with her head down.

"So what are you saying?" Bruce demanded as he looks back at her, not liking where this is going.

"I'm saying that you can keep on doing your mission. Just without me and our daughter." She looks back at him now. He never knew that fire and sadness could exist in one's eyes.

"Diana—". His eyes narrowed towards her, what the hell is she saying he thought to himself. He's not going to lose the love of his life and his daughter the same night, right?

"I'm tired Bruce. Exhausted. We've been at each other's throats for the past few months now, we haven't made love in the longest time and lately… it just hasn't been feeling right anymore."

No one speaks for a moment, both clearly uncomfortable with what's happening.

"And I told you before that I'm never going to make you choose between Gotham and me. So, this is my decision."

"Diana stop." He insisted as he moves away from the door and heads back into the room. "Alright, let's just sleep on it and we'll talk tomorrow." He said as he tries to set the tension down.

"No. We haven't been talking. We haven't talked in for so long and we're not doing it now that I've decided."

In disbelief, he almost says in a shout. "Where the hell is this coming from? You can't just decide these things Diana!"

She paused for a moment and then nods her head. "I'm leaving in the morning and I'm taking Irene with me." She said softly as she rushes out the room, leaving Bruce standing in his silence.

Irene Wayne's POV

It's been 10 years since her mother filed for the divorce, 10 years since her father skulked around even more. Between her parents, he was probably the one who took the divorce the hardest. She remembers her Uncle Clark telling stories about how emotionally unavailable her father was until Diana came into his life. Of course he would hurt more, he finally lets someone in only to be left a few years later. Left by the same woman who he thought he would be sharing the rest of his life with. It also didn't help that they lost Alfred during those 10 years, she knows that a part of him died when his surrogate father passed.

The last few years have been kinder to him though, he decided that it was probably time to slow down when he turned 50. He finally retired wearing the cape and cowl and passed his legacy on to Tim and Damian. A couple of years before his retirement as Batman, he asked her if she wanted to take on the role as Gotham's new protector, but she declined as she was starting to appreciate League missions more. Besides, he already had a few people more qualified to take his place as the caped vigilante. Tim was ready to be Batman and her half-brother Damian was starting to show more interest on joining his crusade. His retirement made him softer, probably because of the lack of physical exposure to Gotham's crime. Nevertheless, he continued to work with Tim and Damian in a backseat manner, providing support while being in the Batcave.

Despite being the one filed for the divorce, she knew that her mother was also hurting and that their separation did its toll on her too. She remembers during the first couple of years, she would hear her mom crying in her bedroom, just silent sobbing. That always hits a chord with her, she always saw her mother as a strong and graceful woman but even an Amazonian princess is vulnerable to the emotions of mankind. It killed her how her mother didn't have the courage to tell her how she really felt and how the divorce truly affected her.

She noticed two things about her mother after the divorce, the first one was that she kept the name Wayne, she didn't change it back to Prince. Maybe she was still holding on to something? The second thing was she noticed her reaction when Bruce revealed that he had son. Apparently, after their separation her dad slept with Talia and had Damian. Irene knows that Talia took advantage of the situation when she knew that her father was broken after her mother left him. In a normal world, she believes that her father would have resisted Talia, but he lost the love of his life and he was hurting, and Talia exploited that moment of weakness for whatever plan she had.

She saw something for the first time in her mother's eyes, was it regret? Regret that she chose to leave and now there really was no going back after this? That her father was physically with someone else after her? That he had another child that wasn't hers? Why did she ask for a divorce in the first place? These are questions that she knows she'll never get to ask her. Unlike her father, she never saw her mother be with anybody after the divorce, if she did, she hid it pretty well, but she highly doubts it. The willpower her mother must've had because when people found out that Diana of Themyscira was once again single, eligible bachelors were practically throwing themselves to her and she didn't do a thing about it.

The divorce wasn't as rough as she would've taught. She remembers the months leading up to the decision were the roughest, but the actual divorce process was basically… for the lack of better term painless or nonexistent. She didn't know if that was sad or not, that there were no emotions shown during the entire thing. It was like they didn't love each other after 10 years of marriage and a child. It wasn't like in the movies, there were no shouting lawyers or screaming for the rights of child custody, or who gets what. It was just two sad people coming to agree that it wasn't working out anymore.

Irene was a child prodigy by the age of 5. What did you expect from the daughter of Batman and Wonder Woman? She's got her father's sharp mind and strong discipline while also having her mother's godlike abilities and beauty. It was difficult for her to see two people who clearly love each other be torn apart because of their duties; they were so focused on being parents and as heroes that they forgot their duties to each other. That there was a turning point where both of them forgot to separate Batman and Wonder Woman from Bruce and Diana.

She had a pretty clear and precise memory of her childhood; she knows those two loved each other. Loves each other. She didn't care if these thoughts were just delusions of a child who was product of divorce, but she is determined that one day they will be together once again.

A/N:
Almost 2k words! Very proud. This one's a little angsty. Again, I've always wanted to write a divorce/separation story about these two lovebirds and finding their way to each other once again. I don't know if it should be its own separate thing or I should just sprinkle it out on these A-Z one-shots so let me know!

Hope you guys are staying well and safe!
