Chapter 36: Ashlynn's Fashion Frolic
Ever After High - Charmitorium
A press conference was being held in the charmitorium. Reporters and photographers took their seats as the headmasters, the Brothers Grimm, stood behind the podium to answer questions. There were also cameras filming live and broadcasting all across Ever After. As their very own students were involved in the battle that took place the previous day, they felt they were responsible and needed to address their actions. Even Merlin was present to speak on his wards' behalf as they needed their rest.
"Welcome, everyone," Milton greeted as he took the podium. "I suppose I will get to the point. No doubt everyone and their fairy godmothers know about the terrible scenes of violence which occurred yesterday."
Giles then stepped forward, a gesture which showed the Brothers Grimm were indeed working together, "For those who do not know or do not have all the details, a group of our students who are the future King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table were individually attacked by a group of opposing knights calling themselves the Order of the White Dragon."
Questions from reporters rang out as they tried to get more information, but Milton waved them down, "For information on these individuals, we turn to the advisor and guardian of the Knights, Merlin."
Merlin sighed and stepped forward to the view of the reporters. With long ages of experience, he spoke up, "The Order of the White Dragon, as far as we know, were the ones who initially equipped delinquent individuals with suits of armor which had them designated as Rogue Knights. Examples included the appearance of the Bow Knight whose armor was confiscated, as well as the Marine Knight and his attempt at kidnapping Princess Meeshell Mermaid at the Pearl Resort."
"So you say this is an organized group rather than random individuals such as before?" asked one reporter.
"Indeed," Merlin waved his staff to conjure an image of Whyte Knight, "They are being led by this individual, dubbing himself the Whyte Knight. His intentions, so far, seem to be the defeat and/or destruction of the Knights of the Round Table and the usurpation of the story of Camelot for himself."
Gasps and outcries came from the crowd, but the reporters continued on, "Are there any leads to the identity of this Whyte Knight?"
Merlin dismissed the image and looked at the reporter. What he wanted to say was that Whyte Knight's true identity was Victor Torgen, the next Vortigen and a student of Far Far Away High. Sadly, there was no evidence beyond the word of the Knights themselves who hadn't seen Victor's face and Vivi's word, who was in no way a reliable witness. Her obvious zealotry would make the argument she was lying solely for Arthur's sake. Victor's family alone had good lawyers, nevermind his school who had several wealthy alumni that would aid it if the school was being slandered.
So Merlin had to lie, "We have no solid leads at this time and the investigation is currently ongoing."
The reporters continued to ask questions and the three men answered the best they could.
Meanwhile, back at the library, the Knights were watching the live press conference on TV.
"At least Headmaster Milton is not trying to cover this up," Arthur commented. The old Milton Grimm would've done everything in his power to sweep the incident under the rug. However, ever since Giles returned and they reconciled, the man had not obsessively tried to coerce students to follow their destinies. Ever After High was missing that balance for such a long time.
"It'll be pretty difficult since it all went viral," Lance remarked. There were videos all over the MirrorNet, taken by numerous sources. "Not to mention fights were happening all over town and at school where everyone could see."
"Why didn't Merlin say that the Rogues came from Far Far Away High?" Gabe questioned.
"To avoid legal action," Max informed him.
"Far Far Away High is an hexclusive school with wealthy students and parents," Rex added. "They'll sue us for any attempt at slander if we don't have any solid evidence."
"But what about Vivi and Erik?" Gabe questioned.
"Their word won't mean much, unfortunately," Rex shook his head. "With the amount of trouble he's in, it can be argued Erik will say anything to try and get himself out of it. Vivi on the other hand is an obvious zealot for the legend of Camelot and those same lawyers will just argue that she'll say anything, even lie if it will help Arthur."
"So they just get away with it? How is that fair?"
"It isn't," Gwen sighed. "Rich people feel privileged and will throw money at any problem to solve it. If that doesn't work, they threaten legal action. They'll protect their reputation at all costs."
"Which means next time, we unmask them, get them in the spotlight and show them off to the world," Arthur crossed his arms. "The last place they want to be."
"And what do we do in the meantime?" Kevin questioned.
"We train and practice for the time being," Arthur replied. "But outside of that, we live our lives and show that despite their attack, they didn't break us."
"If only we all had Survive modes right now," Darren said.
"Well, we might be getting there," Ben shrugged. "I mean, I unlocked mine."
"The only condition to gain one is the power of love," Arthur explained. As corny as it sounded, it was a solid fact. The only times they had unlocked Survive Mode was when their emotions and those of their girlfriends had reached a peak and they reaffirmed their bond. The fact Whyte Knight couldn't use the Survive Rekka only seemed to prove it.
"Corny, but true," Kyle agreed.
Book End - Days Later...
The days since what would be known as the 'White Dragon Assault' had people tense and afraid. An order of clearly villainous knights had come out of the woodwork and attacked the Knights of the Round table wherever they may have been. Most of the fights took place in the Mirror World or were in open spaces, but others were in the streets or inside buildings, leading to lots of damage. The Red Shoes Dance Club, in particular, was going to be closed for a spell while it was being repaired.
Unlike with some of the public Mirror Monster attacks, the Order of the White Dragon couldn't be written off as just a magical monster attack which knights and princes were expected to take on. Actual villains were involved and needed to be apprehended. Fortunately, one of the Rogues was apprehended, Erik Tidecharm whose reputation took a nosedive after he attempted to kidnap Princess Meeshell Mermaid and somehow got a new deck to make a second attempt. This was now his second offense and his family name would not have the law be as lenient as before.
Not surprisingly, public opinion was mainly on the Knights of the Round Table's side. They were already the local heroes who saved Ever After High and the ones who fought Mirror Monsters to protect the school and Book End. They also had the support of many royal figures, making it clear that they were all still the good guys. Knights challenged knights all the time in Arthurian stories, so some people felt a grand challenge was to be expected. Some of the Royal supporters made mutters about how if the Knights followed their stories, the Rogues wouldn't be a problem, but they were in a very small minority.
As for the Knights themselves, they made public statements through Blondie and told the police knights what they knew about the Rogues and who they were. It wasn't just some after school monster battle anymore, but a dedicated group of villains who sought to harm others for personal gain. In private, all of them were happy to have their lovers wanting to remain steady with them. The shock of having war declared on them, and how violent some of the Rogues were was disturbing to them. In some cases, like Poppy and Tristan, it was mutual comfort since they were witnesses up close to the fights and how serious the Rogues were taking it.
Dexter and Humphrey were working on trying to hack the CPU of the Black Knight head they had acquired. Were it not so serious, they two would have been delighted to have their hands on such advanced tech. At the moment, they were frustrated by its damaged state and how the software was almost like a bank vault to their efforts. Whoever had encrypted the data was a genius, but Dexter and Humphrey loved a challenge.
As the days followed and the events turned to memory, the Knights and their circle of friends felt their lives return back to normal and they could breathe easily once again.
Although some things were a little different from before.
Ever After High - Dorms
"Wake up, My Queen."
"Um...five more minutes, Apple..." Raven turned in her sleep. Being a morning person, Apple was always able to rise and shine with the best of them. Most days it was fine, but when Apple tried to get Raven to do the same, it got somewhat annoying.
'Wait a minute,' Raven realized that it wasn't Apple's voice trying to wake her up. Opening her eyes, she turned back around and saw Vivi Dulac, aka Calibur Knight, smiling down at her.
"Good morning, My Queen."
"WAAAH!" Raven almost hit Vivi with a blast of magic but the girl easily leaned to the side to avoid it. Thankfully, with Raven's focus so blurry, it sputtered out before it could even cross the room.
"My Queen, I've already ironed and prepared your clothes for today's school day. I've also checked your homework for you," Vivi informed her.
"Oh, right, thanks," Raven said nervously, reminding herself that Vivi had accepted her as Arthur's girlfriend. For saving her life during Whyte Knight's attack, Vivi pledged herself to Raven's service as she felt indebted to her. Vivi would even wear a maid outfit while not in school as she followed Raven around. The first few days, it felt awkward and Raven insisted she didn't need a handmaiden, but Vivi wouldn't be dissuaded.
Apple mumbled from her bed, "Raven...tell your maid to quiet down please…"
"She's not my maid, Apple," Raven sighed but Vivi had convinced herself she was. Not even Arthur could talk her out of it as she insisted it was a matter of honor.
"The proper term is 'handmaiden'," Vivi corrected.
Apple mumbled, "Just please quiet down. Still sleepy…"
"Apologies, princess," Vivi nodded before turning back to Raven and putting down a breakfast-in-bed tray in front of her. It was french toast with a glass of orange juice. "My Queen, I have prepared your breakfast. I've also hung your outfit for the day in your closet and your school books for the day are stacked on your desk."
"Um...right," Raven nodded. Well, at least Vivi wasn't offering to undress and then dress her or prepare her bath...anymore. "I'll...get right on that."
"Of course, My Queen," Vivi nodded before she turned and left the room.
Raven sighed as she started eating her breakfast, "I thought I got away from maids when I moved to the dorms." As she ate, she noted that Vivi was a good cook.
It had been a surprise for everyone when Raven came back to school the day after Whyte Knight got the boot and Vivi was following Raven around like a bodyguard or a devoted servant.
And cue the flashback!
(FLASHBACK)
Ever After High - Castleteria
Raven felt more awkward than her first day of school when everyone ran away in fear of her. As she sat down with her friends, together known as the Ladies of the Round Table, Vivi followed Raven much like a devoted servant, keeping an eye out for threats or clearing a seat for her. Raven's friends couldn't help but blink at Vivi's behavior.
"Okay, I'll bite. You're Calibur Knight, right?" asked Briar as Raven took her seat and Vivi stood at attention behind her. "Didn't you try to kill Raven before?"
"I did," Vivi admitted, bowing her head, "In her graciousness, My Queen still risked herself to save my life during Whyte Knight's attack. Therefore to atone for my actions and to prove myself, I shall act as My Queen's handmaiden," Vivi said. "My Queen, shall I fetch you your meal?"
"Ah, yeah, sure," Raven said and Vivi went grab a tray and line up for her. "Finally, some peace."
"What's wrong?" Maddie asked.
"That girl has been waiting on me hand and foot since I saved her life," Raven said. "I was finally able to convince her to accept that I'm Arthur's girlfriend. I don't know which is worse, her serving me or trying to kill me."
"Well, maybe you could consider this a good thing? You can ask her to do anything and she'll do it for you," Briar said.
"I'm not going to take advantage of her like that, Briar," Raven sighed. That way was just a slippery slope to acting like her mother.
"I don't know. She seems happy to do anything for you," Faybelle said. "I would so love to have someone do whatever I tell them to."
"Oh trust me. It's not fun," Raven shook her head. "She has no boundaries and offers to do everything for me. I mean everything."
"Does she chew your food for you or something?" wondered Ramona.
"No, but she wants to taste test all my meals to check for poisons. She even tried to help me go through my destiny and poison Apple."
Apple nodded, "Which I think is a really sweet thing to offer, Raven."
Raven groaned, "I didn't offer it, Apple, she just tried it thinking it would help me. And just this morning she wanted to bathe me, dress me and brush my teeth for me."
"...She wanted to brush your teeth?" Ashlynn blinked, utterly confused. That was honestly creepy.
"I can vouch for it," Apple nodded. "I heard her offer." It still made her cringe, especially how happy Vivi looked when she offered.
"Don't look now, but mega-maid is coming back," Poppy pointed as Vivi was on her way back, a tray laden with food.
(END FLASHBACK)
Finishing getting dressed, Raven had to wonder how she was going to deal with her situation. Vivi's desire to serve her in repayment for saving her life she could understand, but Vivi really didn't comprehend boundaries or personal space. She even offered to poison Apple for her just because Raven made an offhand complaint about being roomed with her instead of Maddie like she wanted.
"Maybe I should talk to Arthur or something. Get her focused on another job," Raven pondered.
Ever After High - Halls
Ashlynn Ella walked down the halls, inspiration bright in her eyes as she looked for one of the few girls in the school who could help bring her vision to life. While everything was more or less back to normal after the Rogue attack, Ashlynn could tell that a lot of people were, well, still a little down from it all. Having such a brazen attack happen all over the village had everyone feeling a little insecure.
So Ashlynn had an idea. Every so often she'd hold impromptu fashion shows in the castleteria to show off new designs and sort of hold a quick party for everyone to have fun with. Before, she'd have to make them brief since not only would the outfits turn to rags at the stroke of 12, but if Headmaster Milton caught them, it would be detention for at least a week.
"Ah, there you are!" Ashlynn smiled, seeing her quarry. "Farrah!"
"Hm?" Farrah Goodfairy looked up from her locker, "Oh, hello Ashlynn. How can I help you?"
Ashlynn almost skipped up to her good friend, "Well, I was wondering, how would you like to help me set up our biggest fashion show to date? I mean, one where everyone can forget their worries and enjoy themselves while showing off their style?"
Farrah began to beam, "Oh, it sounds like a dream come true! But, how do we keep it a secret?"
"That's the best part!" Ashlynn gushed before she produced a piece of paper with signatures on it, "I proposed my idea to Headmaster Giles and he approved it! Next Chapterday, we have the whole grimmnasium to use for our show!"
"No way!" Farrah gasped in delight. "Oh Ashlynn, this will make it just spelltacular! Oh, we have to get ready! We have so many designs to consider and decorations, music, and all sorts of things! This is so much to do on our own!"
"We'll need help, so I've been looking for our friends as models and other fashionistas. Lizzie's already on board, Briar's getting supplies, and I already left a hext for Melody to DJ the event!" Ashlynn beamed.
"Girl, you are so on top of things!" Farrah clapped her hands. "Oh, this will be a fashion show Ever After High won't soon forget!"
Ever After High - Castleteria
"A fashion show?" Darren asked.
"Yes, the girls and I in our Fashion Design class are going to hold a fashion show," Lizzie informed her boyfriend, clearly giddy. "And since this will be an official event, we have the faculty's support. It will be so grand."
"Wow, Lizzie. I bet your designs will be happily ever awesome," Darren praised.
"Oh, please hold your praises until after you see what we've come up with," Lizzie giggled at his sweet praise.
Darren chuckled as he munched on a candy bar, "So, where are you having it? If it's Chapterday when you're holding it, how are you going to get it ready in time?
"Briar is dealing with the details of decorations," Lizzie answered. "We do need to recruit models."
"Well, spoiled for choice here," Darren nodded. "When I first came to school, I thought almost all the girls were models or could be scouted for them." He was not wrong. Almost every girl in school was attractive.
"Including me?" asked Lizzie with a raised brow.
"Especially you," Darren smiled, missing that landmine. "It's why I just had to pair with you during the class we first met in."
Lizzie blushed, pleased at the compliment, "Well, you're not wrong. We have plenty of girls who'd love to model or help out, like Poppy, Holly, and Apple but we're also thinking of adding male models."
"Oh? Do you think I'd look good in a dress?" Daren posed, making Lizzie giggle.
"Maybe, interested?" Lizzie giggled.
"I think I could rock a skirt. You did say I had great legs."
"As much as I'd like to see that, we're actually designing men's wear too," Lizzie had to keep herself from breaking down into giggles from their hilarious banter and at the thought of Darren in a dress like the ones their friends wore.
"Well, if you need help, then count me in," Darren offered.
"Splendid! I already have designs in mind!" Lizzie beamed, producing a notebook filled with sketches.
Ever After High - Halls
News about the upcoming fashion show spread quickly all over Ever After High and there was a signup sheet on the bulletin board for students who wanted to join as models. Naturally, a lot of the best-looking boys and girls signed up either because they felt they looked good enough or they wanted the chance to hang around with the fairest in the school.
"You're actually signing up for the fashion show?" Arthur asked as Lance put down his name. He found Kyle's name on the sheet too. He wasn't surprised. Like Daring, he was proud of his looks. Speaking of Daring, his name was on the sheet at the top of the list for the boys.
"Apple Pie asked if I was free and I thought it would be fun, especially if we get to model matching couple's wear," Lance answered. "What about you?"
Arthur blinked, "Huh? What about me?"
Lance nodded, "Aren't you gonna sign up?"
"Oh, no," Arthur shook his head. "I'm not sure how I can walk down a catwalk without embarrassing myself. Too much pressure."
"Just strut, pose and be fableous," Lance said. "Come on, plenty of people are all but expecting us to be involved since our girlfriends are."
"Ah, I don't think I'll be involved regardless," Arthur shrugged. "And Raven's not the type for fashion shows. She's a musician, not a fashionista. I think I can bow out of this and she'd forgive me for it."
"Well, suit yourself," Lance said.
Ever After High - Castleteria
"You're modeling too, Gwen?" Arthur asked, surprised.
"Why so surprised?" Gwen questioned.
"Well, this doesn't seem to be your thing, to be honest." Arthur reasoned. Although she had been updating her wardrobe since coming to Ever After, Gwen was still a licensed tomboy who didn't gush over fashion and other things considered girly.
"Well, true," Gwen admitted. "But I like dressing up as much as the next girl. Darling's been a little down lately so I decided we could do this together to lift her spirits a little."
"Oh okay," Arthur nodded. It turned out that the new Perfect Knight was someone Darling knew. His name was Dashing Charming and he was Daring, Dexter, and Darling's cousin. He was supposed to be off at some princely finishing school, but he was indeed a knightly prince in all ways, so to hear he was with the Rogues was shocking for Darling. She couldn't get into contact with him and it was making her noticeably down.
There was a story there, but Arthur really didn't know what it was.
"What about you? Want to show off for Raven a little?" asked Gwen.
"Ah, no. I'd flub and likely trip or something," Arthur chuckled. "Why is it people expect me to be part of this?"
Gwen shrugged, "You are the next King Arthur. You're pretty high up in the social hierarchy around here so a lot of people just think you'd be mixed up in every big event like some of us do. Maybe more so if our girlfriends get involved."
"If Raven was playing for a concert or something, you'd bet I'd be there to support her," Arthur replied. "But as much as she likes style, she doesn't seem into modeling or designing clothes so as far as I know, she's not signing up for this."
"I dunno. People can surprise you. Take me for example." Gwen shrugged. "I was all but a punk rocker girl but now I'm as stylish as any of the popular girls and still a tomboy. Raven might surprise you too."
"And I love it when she does," Arthur chuckled. "Okay, if Raven signs up, I'll consider it. I admittedly have my doubts though."
"Remember how happy she was when she got crowned Thronecoming Queen?" Gwen reminded. "This fashion show's gonna be like that."
Arthur blinked, "Hm. True."
Ever After High - Courtyard
"Vivi, no," Raven crossed her arms.
"But, My Queen, you are beautiful. It would be a shame for you not to join the fashion show," Vivi insisted. Raven blushed at the blatant praise. Well, at least Vivi was honest.
"It's not really my thing," Raven said.
"Perhaps but maybe His Majesty would like to see how gorgeous you can be in the latest original fashions. He did love the sight of you during Thronecoming," Vivi said.
"Wait, were you there?" Raven asked.
"When you were crowned his Thronecoming Queen, which I now believe was well-earned," Vivi admitted. "Remember My King admiring you when you were on his arm and when you were both crowned? This can be your chance to experience it again."
"W-well," Raven blushed. She did like it when Arthur looked at her in her Thronecoming dress and it was like his breath was taken away. During the ride to the dance, he couldn't keep his eyes off her for long. It made her feel desired and beautiful, which was quite addictive.
"And if the right outfit is presented, perhaps you can use it to seduce him to the next stage of your relationship," Vivi continued. "Perhaps they have a lingerie selection you can choose from."
"VIVI!" Raven blushed brightly.
Ever After High - Fashion Design Classroom
Everyone who had signed up was called to have their measurements taken so they could do a fitting. Designing outfits was the easy part for Ashlynn and her classmates, but nice clothes still looked bad if they didn't fit just right.
"Spread your arms," Ashlynn instructed as she stretched the measuring tape across Kyle's back and took notes. "So, since you seem to wear purple so well, we were thinking of getting something similar for your outfit. It's kind of your signature color and people tend to think of it when they talk about you."
"Hey, you're the designer," Kyle shrugged. "Ah, this isn't going to be some kind of rapid clothes change backstage like I heard some shows do, right?"
"Well, Farrah's going to help with that so it shouldn't be a problem," Ashlynn answered. "It's how I've been able to throw these in the castleteria in only fifteen minutes."
"Convenient. Magic's pretty handy," Kyle nodded. "But if we're using magic, why make clothes at all?"
"For the fun of it. Besides, at my last show, all the clothes turned to rags at 12 and some of the models hadn't changed back yet," Ashlynn answered. "Since this is a sanctioned event, why not do it like the pros?"
"True," Kyle agreed. "And you do want to impress scouts. They won't be impressed by fashion that turns from riches to rags."
"Definitely not," Ashlynn giggled. She finished her measurements and patted Kyle on the shoulder, "Okay, done. Now scoot. We've got a lot of models to go through before we can start making your outfits."
"Yes ma'am," Kyle saluted.
If there was a chance to become fabulous, Daring Charming would no doubt be there. He had good looks and was a model himself with all the photoshoots he went to, so knew his way on the catwalk. If he could do that while showing some school spirit, well, that was just a walk in the park for a prince like him. Of course, it meant many of the girls doing the measuring almost got in a catfight over who got to measure him.
"Ladies, ladies, there's more than enough of me to go around," Daring chuckled. "You're all making separate outfits, right? Each of you can have a turn to measure me for them."
"Your ego never ceases to amaze me, Daring," Lance remarked while he was being measured too.
"It's not ego if I can back it up," Daring chuckled. "And I can certainly do that."
"Can't argue with that," Lance agreed.
Ever After Hall - Grimmnasium
Hunter used his amazing carpentry skills to help build the catwalk for Ashlynn's show. Wiping some sweat off his brow, he smiled at the work he had done.
"Needs more wood," Hunter said. He was not working alone in the grimmnasium. Dexter and Humphrey were working on the lighting and electronics as the technician crew while Ben helped with the heavy lifting.
Hunter lent a hand with plenty of Ashlynn's fashion shows before. Granted, he couldn't really help as her boyfriend since they were keeping their relationship a secret at the time. Now that their relationship was out in the open and Ashlynn had permission to have her show, Hunter wanted to make it the best show it could be.
"I managed to get more lumber for the catwalk," Ben informed Hunter as he put the material down. His size was not for show. He was just that strong.
"Thanks, Ben," Hunter nodded, hefting his axe. "Let's make this a stage to remember."
"Ashlynn says she wants a strobing effect," Dexter said as he stood by the control panel for the lights. "Humphrey, is everything hooked up right?"
Humphrey had climbed the ladder to make sure the lights were wired correctly.
"Everything looks good, Dex! Test it out!"
Dexter did so and the lights died down before strobe effects began to fill the grimmnasium. Cheers from some of the crew followed as they admired the lighting effects.
"We're good," Dexter nodded. "Melody, how's the music?"
"Loud and proud!" Melody grinned. "Those models are going to be the fairest in the land with our lighting and music."
"Maybe after the fashion show, we can have a party," Ben joked.
"Great idea, Ben!" Melody grinned. "We've got the setup already. Why not use it after the show and really party? Let's run it by Ashlynn!"
Ben blinked, "Wait, what?"
Book End - Hocus Latte
Arthur and Raven decided to grab some hocus lattes and sat down to enjoy their beverages. Actually, it was more like Vivi had seated them then gone to order their drinks.
"She's really taking her role as your handmaiden seriously," Arthur observed as Vivi waited for the barista to finish their order.
"Yeah," Raven agreed. "Hey, Arthur, this fashion show Ashlynn's organizing, everyone looks like they're working really hard to make it happen."
"Yeah," Arthur nodded. "Lance even asked me if I wanted to model."
"Do you?"
"No, no way," Arthur shook his head. "I wouldn't know how to walk on a runway without making a fool of myself. Do you?"
"Well, no, not really, but everyone looks like they're having fun," Raven said. She knew fashion wasn't her scene, but at the same time, she kind of wanted to take part in a big school event where everyone was enjoying themselves. She didn't get to go to many of those in her earlier years since she was the Evil Queen's daughter.
Arthur couldn't deny that. Even the stage crew looked like they were enjoying themselves. However, Arthur did not want to do something if everyone expected him to do it just because of his destiny or his role as leader of the Knights of the Round Table. He didn't need that kind of pressure.
He looked at Raven and imagined modeling the clothes Ashlynn and the rest of the fashion ensign class would make. He couldn't deny that she was beautiful and could definitely pull off a stylish look. It would have to be dark colors, a mix of purple, black and silver. She would look fabulous and she did seem a little wistful at the thought of being part of such a big project.
"Well...since everyone's having fun…" Arthur pushed himself a little to speak up, "I'll...sign up if you do."
Raven almost gasped in surprise, "Arthur..."
"That sounds marvelous!" Vivi interjected, putting their cups down in front of them. "The Once and Future King and Queen of Camelot, on the runway. Everyone would gaze upon your beauty in awe."
Both looked to Vivi and then to each other. Despite the butterflies in their stomachs at the thought of doing something they usually would not, they couldn't help but smile with some excitement at being in the thick of something which did look fun.
Ever After High - Fashion Design Classroom
The next day, Raven and Arthur had signed up to become models for the fashion show and went to the studio where the fashion design class was already hard at work. Arthur and Raven looked to each other, silently asking if the other wanted to pull out. Seeing no resistance, Arthur knocked on the doorframe, drawing Ashlynn's attention away from her sketches.
"Are we too late to model?" Arthur asked.
"Oh, no. We're just getting started on the designs. We can take your measurements now," Ashlynn said with an excited smile as she stretched a measuring tape.
"Come over here, Raven, and allow me to take your measurements," Lizzie grinned as she pulled Raven aside.
"I shall be here to offer assistance, My King and Queen!" Vivi stood at the ready.

As the would-be models were busy getting measurements or testing some of the first drafts of the outfits they would be wearing, they waited and talked about what the show might be like. Several of the models had never done such a thing before, either leaping at the chance out of an impulse or deciding to try for the first time. As many of the boys weren't experienced, Charming decided to do the Charming thing and give his fellow models some tips on how to work the catwalk.
"Alright, boys. Let me show you how it's done," Daring said to his male classmates. "When walking the runway, you need to project confidence. All eyes are on you so you must be sure to give your audience something to look at. Observe the proper posture. Shoulders back, eyes forward, and strut."
Daring demonstrated, walking in a straight line. No, it was more like a confident strut.
"At the end of the runway, strike a pose," Daring slipped off his jacket and slung it over his shoulder while resting a hand on his hip, flashing his dashing smile. "Linger for a moment and then turn and strut back, and don't forget to have that confident swagger."
"Say what you want about Daring, he knows his stuff," Darren commented.
"He is a Charming," Kyle shrugged.
"Alright, let's practice. Just do as I do and you're gold," Daring instructed them. "Arthur, how about you try?"
"Oh...OK," Arthur gulped and got up. "Shoulders back, eyes forward and strut."
His strut was pretty stiff. Actually, it was more like a march.
"No, don't be so stiff," Daring protested with a shake of his head. "Strut, don't march."
"Right, right," Arthur nodded.
Arthur was good at public speaking but runway modeling was new territory for him. He had to remind himself that Raven wanted to do this and he promised to be by her side during the whole thing. It was new territory for both of them and they needed to know they had each other's support.
Days passed and it was finally Chapterday. The fashion show was scheduled to start at 3 pm. That was good as it gave everyone plenty of time to get ready. They did not want to start too close to 12 o'clock, noon or midnight. Farrah's magic tended to wear off at those times.
The dressing room was busy with the boys and girls being made up. The girls put on their makeup and had their hair done while the boys were receiving similar treatment. Poppy was certainly in her element, coordinating with the other stylists to get the models' hair done to match their outfits.
Raven sat in front of her mirror as Vivi styled her hair. It took a lot of time for her to be comfortable with the other girl doing this for her since she had tried to kill her not too long ago. But Vivi turned out to be a capable handmaiden, making sure Her Queen was presentable.
"With your own sense of style and your outfit, your hair is very suited for being straight, or at least gentle waves rather than the curls Apple sports," Vivi commented as she brushed Raven's hair and used a straightener to help her hair look like a silk sheet with a vibrant sheen.
Vivi clearly knew what she was doing. Still, Raven hated the idea of having someone wait on her like she was. It was something her mom would enjoy, but not her. However, Vivi was adamant. Until her debt could be repaid, she would serve Raven. So Raven would put up with it, although she had to admit it was handy to have her helping out at a moment like this.
"Oh," Daring admired himself in the mirror and did finger pistols at his own reflection. "You are a handsome devil, Daring Charming."
"Same here," Lance admitted, as he checked himself in the mirror, making sure not a single strand of hair was out of place.
"So, when it's time for a change, I'll use my magic and switch your outfits," Farrah instructed Kyle and Duchess.
Faybelle had also signed up. Well, she would take any chance to be the fableous center of attention, even if it meant sharing the spotlight with others on the catwalk. She would just compensate by wearing the most dazzling outfits of them all.
Blondie Lockes would be covering the event on her MirrorCast so everyone in Book End and Ever After who were watching from home could see the entire thing unfold. Blondie wanted to make it as exciting as possible so everyone's spirits would be lifted after recent events.

"Hi, Ashlynn!"
"Oh no," Ashlynn silently groaned. Turning, she saw two people she wished would not come to the show. Prudence and Charlotte were all but strutting through the crowd towards her, the condescending and smug looks on their faces clear to everyone.
"Prudence, Charlotte," Ashlynn smiled weakly. "Come to see the show?"
"Oh, we didn't just come to watch," Prudence huffed. "We're going to make sure it gets done right!"
Ashlynn frowned, "What is that supposed to mean?"
Charlotte smirked, "It means we're taking over! Now shove off, we're going to make sure this fashion show goes off right!"
"What?! You can't do that!" Ashlynn cried.
"Too bad!" Prudence huffed. "Remember your destiny? You have to wait on us!"
Ashlynn grimaced. Being expected to take her destiny for so long, she did tend to be somewhat of a pushover when her future step-sisters were involved. The current climate did help her become more courageous when it came to her destiny, especially when it came to possible loopholes she could exploit in her story. It was how she could be with Hunter without fear. Still, being pushed on the subject by two people she was in essence raised to be subservient to, Ashlynn felt her resolve starting to weaken.
The stepsisters' appearance did not just barge in without anyone noticing. Charlotte's screechy tone of voice calling to Ashlynn just made sure everyone nearby knew they were there. Many people gave the pair sour looks, either through personal experiences with their attitudes or just because of how they treated Ashlynn.
Lance grimaced as he watched Prudence and Charlotte trying to take over Ashlynn's fashion show. She was the one who did the paperwork to set the whole event up, worked on the designs with the other girls, and pretty much led the project. Now they were trying to steal all the credit. With a frown, he knew he couldn't just boot them out when they were annoying. He was just a model, not one of the people in charge.
"Ugly and Uglier are here, swooping in like vultures," Kyle hissed when he saw them trying to steal Ashlynn's hard work.
Duchess and Apple had told their boyfriends about the pair. They were spoiled and condescending to just about everyone around them. Their favorite target was Ashlynn and whenever the next Cinderella was part of something, often they would appear to try and steal credit for themselves if they could get away with it. Ashlynn was usually able to sidestep them, but the current show was too big for her to keep them out of the loop.
"Yeah, it sucks," Lance agreed.
"Would anyone miss them if they disappeared?" Kyle asked, showing Venosnaker's card.
"Kyle..." Lance warned. This was not the time for the goth's grim sense of humor.
"Not forever. More like stuff them in a broom closet back in the library," Kyle rolled his neck.
"Actually, I had an idea on how to deal with them," Lance said as he knew a way to get the stepsisters off Ashlynn's back.
Lance moved through the crowd before he found where Gawain was with Rosabella. Gawain was part of the stage crew, helping move last-minute supplies out of the way, or boxes of clothes to where Farrah would need them for quick changes. Rosabella was helping him with her organizational skills so Farrah wouldn't have to search or dig through racks of clothes.
"Hey, Gawain! I need a favor, like, really bad."
Gawain turned to face him, "What?"
Lance stuck his thumb over his shoulder to where the stepsisters were browbeating Ashlynn, "Charlotte and Prudence are trying to take over the fashion show. Gonna need you to take one for the team."
Gawain paled and grimaced. All the Knights knew that the sisters were crushing hardcore on Gawain after he rescued them from a Mirror Monster. They followed him for most of the day he met them and he had to dive into the Mirror World to ditch them. It didn't stop them from following him or trying to get his attention if they got the chance for it whenever they saw him.
"Please no," Gawain grimaced. He looked to Rosabella, "Say no?"
"I don't want you to but this is Ashlynn's show. We can't let anyone ruin it, not after all the work she put into it," Rosabella answered, looking just as conflicted. "Don't worry, Gawain. I won't get jealous."
Gawain let off a whimper but this show was important to Ashlynn and she was a friend. He slumped over and sighed in defeat.
"Fine."
"I'll make it up to you," Lance promised. Taking Gawain's arm, he dragged him closer to where the stepsisters were able to see him. Giving one last look of apology to Gawain, he whistled to get the stepsisters' attention. "Hey, Charlotte! Prudence! I got Gawain here and he wants to hang out!"
"Really!?"
"Gawain!"
Both girls suddenly stopped any attempt to steal credit for the fashion show when they heard their crush's name. Gawain gave Lance a silent glare, which said 'you owe me'. It was the only message he could pass before the stepsisters took his arms, pulling him along as they chattered incessantly.
"There goes a brave man. His sacrifice will be remembered," Lance said with admiration.
"Was that really necessary?" Ashlynn asked. She was happy Lance got her future stepsisters off her back, but she knew Gawain really didn't like them.
"Ash, this is your show. No way were we going to let them steal it," Lance told her.
"You know he's gonna get you back for this, right?" Kyle questioned Lance.
Lance shrugged, "That's future Lance's problem. Let him deal with it. Now, come on. We've got a fashion show to put on."

The windows of the grimmnasium were covered by curtains to prevent Mirror Monsters from coming in and set the mood. Melody and Dexter were at their stations, the latter working the lights while the former worked the music.
Backstage, Arthur was a ball of nerves. The outfit he was in was not something he would normally wear but it was stylish, fashion-forward, and looked good on him. He even had a crown on his head, making him look like he was part of a Charming family. He poked his head out to see the faculty in their seats. Milton had his arms crossed but there was pride in his expression. Giles was just plain excited.
There were photographers from fashion magazines in the audience too. Word had been spread to plenty of people about the show and local news outlets were covering the event. Ever After High was a famous school, so events like these always got people's attention. It didn't do anything for the nerves and pressure several of the new models felt.
"Nervous?" Raven asked.
"Yeah," Arthur admitted. "You look great by the way. Vivi really knows how to style hair."
Raven played with a strand of her hair with a smile, "She may not understand personal space, but she's good at what she does."
"Alright," Arthur steeled himself. "Showtime."
Ashlynn sent a hext message to Dexter and Melody to begin. The lights in the grimmnasium were dimmed and Melody started the music. It was the kind of beat that got people pumped but without being too loud. That was Dexter's cue to turn on the strobing effect. People gasped and applauded over the first lighting effects.
"Watch and learn, boys," Daring winked as he went out on the runway. He strutted, owning the catwalk, confidently making his way to the end. He struck a pose, allowing the cameras to flash and take his picture. He even flashed a dashing smile, causing many girls to swoon. He then turned, giving them a strut as he made his way backstage.
"You make that look so easy," Arthur commented as Daring came back.
"Practice, my friend. And you can do it too," Daring offered.
Darren came out after Daring and he pretty much swaggered. He loved being the center of attention as he ate it all up with a smile, showing off an outfit designed by his girlfriend. His outfit appeared like a dapper gentleman with a pinstripe suit, green of course, with a red vest and purple tie. A fedora sat on his head with a joker card tucked into it. On his nose was a pair of dark sunglasses, the lenses perfectly round. Spreading his arms, he did a twirl at the end of the runway, striking a pose as he snapped his fingers. He then turned and walked back in the opposite direction, never breaking his swagger.
Apple and Lance were next as they went out as a couple in matching stylish outfits. Apple was in a royal-like gown of red and white with gold accenting it, making her appear very queen-like. Lance was in a white suit which was clearly made to pair with Apple's. It had gold buttons and epaulets with a red tie and pants. In all, it made him look very princely. Lance may not be a Charming, but as a Knight of the Round Table, he was just as dashing. And with Apple by his side, they were getting a lot of positive attention from the audience. Cameras flashed as they posed together at the end of the runway.
Next were Duchess and Kyle. Unlike Apple and Lance, their outfits did not match since Duchess wore a white and gold dress with a ballerina motif while his outfit was royal purple with a long coat and hood, making him appear more mysterious compared to her. Clearly, it was influenced by Duchess' story to an extent as mages wore long coats or robes while Duchess took the ballet influence of her story. However, they did not seem to clash. They posed together at the end of the runway as Kyle dipped Duchess. They must've rehearsed this.
Now, if there was any girl who looked like a runway model, it was Briar Beauty. Emphasis on beauty. She owned the catwalk. Although she could rock the classic princess style, she instead wore something more modern and stylish. It was a summer dress, styled with pink and black roses of course. It was tied with a bow at her waist and exposed her arms and legs, accenting her rich skin tone. A sun hat was draped on her head with pink roses and her ever-present sunglasses.
She spotted her boyfriend in the audience and gave him a saucy wink. Harry blushed, but couldn't help but grin even as photographers were in a tizzy to get photos of her with such a pose.
Faybelle, who absolutely loved being the center of attention, dominated the runway. The outfit she had on was clearly themed after her destiny as Briar's Dark Fairy. Her dress was queen-like with dark shades of blue. The silk almost flowed as it trailed behind her, although she kept the look of nature in the design of her dress. Her wings were almost glowing as the dress highlighted her pale skin tone. She did not really strut but she did glide and it was mesmerizing.
Kevin was in the audience, mesmerized by this angel.
Gwen, the tomboy, definitely looked like a princess as she walked gracefully along the length of the catwalk. She may have hated Princessology, but Darling's tutoring paid off. Her gown was indeed made for a princess, with a long skirt and the ribbon folds. The bodice was lined with white fur and she wore long silk opera gloves that had the same fur lining on the edges. A tiara sparkled on her head and she even wore downy wings on her back to fit her swan theme. She did not just look like a princess, she walked like one, and on heels too.
Darling, being a model as well, didn't see her on the catwalk, but got to see her girlfriend up close in her outfit. She nibbled her lip at the sight of her girlfriend being at her most fairest yet.
It was now Arthur and Raven's turn to walk the runway.
"Ready?" Arthur asked as Briar started coming back from her turn.
"No," Raven gulped.
"Me neither," Arthur chuckled. "Think of it when you played your solo at the talent show."
"I'm more confident in my music than posing," Raven mumbled. "But okay, let's do this."
Arthur and Raven stood at the curtain and Raven took his arm. Both nodded to each other and began walking into the light. Audience members gasped, if only because they saw the daughter of the Evil Queen and the next King Arthur were walking down the catwalk together.
Raven's outfit was a black corset over a black blouse with purple accenting. A long skirt trailed behind her and showed off purple stockings covering her legs. She sported purple opera gloves which rippled in the lighting. Her hair was left to hang in a silky black and purple curtain. She wore a silver tiara and sapphire earrings with a rhinestone under her left eye as a beauty mark.
Arthur looked every bit the royal in a red coat with gold buttons and lapels. His pants were white with gold lines running down the sides. He even had a rapier at his side and was wearing white gloves. Perched on his head was a crown, making him appear every bit the future king many people saw him as. Many audience members who knew him gasped, never seeing him in a royal outfit before. The closest they had seen was when he was in his armor for a knighting ceremony.
The two posed together, at the end of the runway, exuding a royal presence. Cameras flashed as they turned to walk back down the catwalk.
As the show continued, the models showed off the outfits, switching quickly with the help of Farrah's magic. Then Poppy and her team of stylists were able to fix the models' hair to ensure that they looked perfect. It was a whirlwind of activity as people were moving to keep up with the flow of the show. Fortunately, magic went a long way in keeping everything going smoothly.
As the show ended, and all the outfits were showed off, Melody decided it was time to show everyone the people behind the outfits.
"Okay everyone, you've seen the threads, but now you get to meet the ones who made them shine! Let's introduce our designers!"
The curtains opened and the designers of the outfits began to go down the catwalk, waving to the crowds. The Fashion Design class, of course, wore their very best, some of their own designs, and waved as the people cheered and took pictures. It was their moment in the sun as their own skills and talents were recognized.
"And let's not forget the ones who set up this little show, Ashlynn Ella and Farrah Goodfairy!"
Both girls came out, wearing sparkling dresses and began waving to the crowd as more cameras flashed to take photos of the pair as they came to the end of the catwalk. Their smiles were dazzling as they heard the adoration of the audience and their applause.
Just like Ben had said, the models, crew, and designers all had a party after the show was over. They were celebrating as they had accomplished something grand. Briar had the snacks and other refreshments delivered and Melody got herself ready for her second gig in a row. Some DJ's may have been exhausted by even the thought, but Melody lived for these events.
"Great job everyone for making Ashlynn and Farrah's fashion show come true!" Melody praised. "So let's all spellebrate for a job well done!"
Cheers came from several people as Melody started the tunes and many began to dance.
Lance was enjoying himself with Apple when he felt a firm grip on his shoulder. He turned around and saw that it was Gawain. His clothes seemed a little ruffled and his eye was twitching.
"Ah...time for me to pay up?" Lance asked weakly. Since it was the future, it was time for him to deal with the mess Past Lance had left him with.
"Owe me. Big," Gawan growled.
"Oh, OK, what do you want?"
"Shovel. Manure. Stables. Two weeks."
Lance blanched, "Two!? Why two!?"
Gawain's eye twitch increased in speed, "Two sisters. All day."
"Charlotte and Prudence were that bad, huh?"
"Talk. Too much. Did not stop." Gawain groaned.
"Geez, sounds rough. OK, fine. I'll take those two weeks. It's the least I can do for throwing you under the bus like that." Inwardly he wanted to groan. Mucking stables was never fun, hence why he only did it for class. Manure reeked!
Arthur and Raven stood by the punch bowl together. Both had changed back to their more casual outfits. Although the clothes they wore for the show were pretty nice, they couldn't help but feel like they were showing off a little. It was much more relaxing to be in their normal outfits, even if some of the models wanted to show off in Ashlynn and Farrah's designs for a little longer.
"You know, after all is said and done, the stress just seeps away," Arthur remarked, feeling better now that he had finished taking part in something instead of just watching it.
"It was fun though," Raven smiled, feeling much the same way Arthur did.
"Yeah," Arthur admitted. "The only thing that stopped me from tripping was focusing on the end."
"I just tuned everyone out," Raven shrugged. "It wasn't that different from when I played on stage."
"You looked great, though, in those outfits. Ashlynn and the girls really know how to make them," Arthur complimented, making Raven smile.
Melody switched to another song and Raven's smile widened.
"I love this song!" Raven took Arthur's hand and the pair went out to the dancefloor, joining in the festivities.
So everyone danced the night away. After the battle with the Rogues, it was nice to just be kids and relax. No stress, no danger, just fun.
The following week, numerous fashion magazines had printed articles about the Ever After High fashion show. Huge spreads of many of the models were on the pages as reporters gave their opinions of the designs. Many with glowing reviews for student designers. Naturally, Daring got an entire page to himself but so did Lance and Apple as a couple.
Raven and Arthur were surprised to see they got a special mention with a photo of them. Apparently, the contrast between them and their stories was a big topic of interest. Of course, how their outfits contrasted and yet went together so well made them a hit with the critics the magazine interviewed. Although the article had a bit of gossip regarding how the two of them were so different and yet together.
"Lancie, don't we just look fableous?" Apple giggled as the Knights and their girlfriends were hanging out together at the library. It was one of the few spaces in town large enough to room all of them.
"Some of your best work yet," Tristan praised Poppy who blushed with a beaming smile.
"Thanks, but I had plenty of help," Poppy smiled, hugging Tristan's arm.
"Hmm, I think you look gorgeous, Gwen," Darling praised her girlfriend who blushed.
"W-well, I like looking good just as much as anyone," Gwen mumbled, finding her lap interesting. "And since all I had to do was relax and look good, why not go all princess?"
Hunter smiled at Ashlynn who was curled up into his side, "So, how do you plan to top this?"
"Not sure yet," Ashlynn hummed with a smile, "But we have plenty of time to think about it."
Wow, that was happily ever awesome! I should ask Ashlynn if I could have copies of some of those outfits!
Brooke, your last trip filled your closet enough.
Oh come on, Mom. Just one dress? For a special occasion?
...maybe. Your father and I will discuss it.
A/N: And after so much doom and gloom, it's nice to come back to what is everyday life in Ever After High. This is also a bit fo a callback to the webisode of the same name. Of course, it was just made grander since Ashlynn wanted to do her part and help raise everyone's spirits after such a violent clash. So, a bit of a SOL hapter, but still fun.
