"Chicago PD, stop," Jay shouted as soon as he noticed the offender sneaking out of the back door of his house.

Fred Holmes. A single father who was suspect in an armed robbery. Intelligence worked day and night for three days straight until Olinsky found a lead that posed him as the boss of the gang which stole all the money from a grocery store.

When they gathered around Fred's house which was located near Chicago Med, no one expected him to be prepared.

"Sarge, he's running towards the alley. I'm going after him."

"No Jay, wait for backup."

Of course, Halstead didn't obey his boss' orders and followed him, accelerating his pace.

The sun had already started to disappear behind the enormous buildings of Chicago making it impossible for a person to see properly in the darkness and especially in the alley that Jay Halstead was currently at. The young detective was somehow trapped in there. He could hear Fred's footsteps and breathing but couldn't exactly detect his form. There was only one floodlight providing its light to the place, however, it was located near a fence a couple of feet away.

"Halstead are you in there?" Voight's voice was heard through the com. Ignoring it, Jay took a few steps in the small road. "Come out with your hands on your head. You cannot escape."

For a few minutes, silence dominated the place until footsteps were heard again and Fred appeared in his view running towards the fence. Jay charged at him immediately reaching his spot in no time, climbing on the fence. Unfortunately, bad situations can happen at any time. As he was about to reach the ground, he slipped finding himself fallen down, feeling the red liquid running down his arm. The attempt to sit up seemed impossible so he stayed there staring at the sky.

One, two, three, four, five. So many stars shining bright in the sky. Countless of small dots adorning the busy city of Chicago. Jay's head was pounding, every move he made, brought dizziness on his brain pushing him backward. He wondered why his team hadn't searched for him yet, maybe they didn't care? Or they were too busy chasing the perp that all his friends had totally forgotten about him? Only one person could pull him out of this misery. Reaching to his pocket with his intact right arm, he grabbed his phone dialing the number he wanted to.

"Hello, Jay where are you?"

"Erin."

"Where are you?"

"I'm hurt…" He was too disorientated to figure out all of her words.

"Look stay there and I'll have Mouse pin your phone."

As he was about to continue talking to her, a loud bang cut him off. The opening of the dumpster.

"Help." He called out in a hoarse voice.

Whoever was in there couldn't hear him and for sure couldn't see him in the dark.

"Help…" He put every strength of his body to yell.

"Is anyone there?"

From what it seemed the stranger was female. Her tiny legs were barely visible.

"Help."

"Oh my God. The woman exclaimed as soon as she noticed him, kneeling by his side. "You're Dr. Halstead's brother. Can you move? I have to get you inside."

"My head hurts…" He whispered.

"Okay, okay, I'll help you in and we will treat you properly."

"Thank you, Dr. Reece." Reading the name at the Chicago Med tag, he smiled.

If someone had warned Will Halstead that night about what he was about to face on the Emergency Department, he wouldn't have believed it. Well, he didn't believe it when he saw the commotion evolving in front of him. Today he was supposed to be a doctor only. Not a worried brother. After Jay's kidnapping, he swore to protect him and never have in the hospital again. "Help please." A loud voice interrupted his work on a 15-year-old boy with a broken arm. Ignoring the calls of his colleagues, he continued checking out the young man until a familiar name was heard from trauma two. "No way." Mumbling to himself, he turned to face the boy on the bed. "Alright, Jonathan, we need to take some X-rays and…" That name again. "Excuse me for a second." Exiting the room, he was met with multiple two nurses, Maggie among them and Dr. Abrahams who stared intensively in. "What's wrong?" Taking a peek at his surroundings, the world suddenly started spinning causing him to take a step backward to support himself on the wall before sprinting by his brother's side. "Jay, talk to me." It was pointless though, Jay had already passed out.

"He lost consciousness on the way here," Connor exclaimed while listening to the man's lungs. "Lungs are clear. Reece found him outside."

"What's the diagnosis?"

"Possible concussion we need a CT to determine it, multiple lacerations on his left arm, fortunately, no damage, he is going to need some stitches but overall he is fine, don't worry. Alright, people let's get him upstairs, you can follow us Will if you want."

The examination didn't take long and soon the youngest Halstead found himself back in an ED room, still into deep sleep. There was a cannula under his nose providing him oxygen, the leads of the monitor had been connected with his chest and an IV was hooked up to his arms. Considering the condition Sarah found him, he looked much better.

«Where is he?" Someone banged at the door, screaming.

"Erin relax…." Will answered annoyed, standing up from his chair, pushing her gently out of the room. "He is fine. He still hasn't woken up but it is due to the concussion he has. Nothing more but some stitches on his arm, he's gonna have a full recovery don't worry. There's only one thing I want to ask. How did he end up there, injured?"

Pacing in a steady rhythm in the hallways of Chicago Med, the young woman narrated the events of the day, well up to the point where she lost contact with Jay.

"I am gonna kill him." Will was now boiling inside.

"You know your brother, he always acts on his own. The important thing is that he is fine and will be out of here soon."

Before he had the chance to reply a feasible noise was heard in the background causing both people to search and locate the source of the sound. Immediately they ran to Jay's room only to find him surrounded by nurses who made multiple attempts to keep him calm. Breaking the invisible chain, Will approached his brother, sitting on the bed hugging him tightly. "Shh, it's a nightmare. Open your eyes, Jay, you're in Chicago, open your eyes."

The voice of his older brother gave him the strength to move on from this bad dream and return to reality as much as painful it was. The first thing he faced opening his eyes was the figure of Erin and his Sarge, standing there, arms crossed. Although his vision, was blurry, he could distinguish the worry on their faces. As his senses turned to normal, he felt Will's hug and released himself into it.

"You alright Jay?" Will whispered.

He nodded taking a deep breath, breaking Will's hug. "My head hurts."

"You'll be okay."

Jay took a peek at the bandages on his arm, trying to bring back the memories from earlier, however, he was still too dazed to remember anything. "How did I end up in here?"

"Reece found you half-unconscious outside the hospital. You really don't remember what happened?"

"I was chasing a guy… Yes, Fred…"

"Despite my orders to stop." Voight interrupted his thoughts.

"Right sorry about it." He replied not caring about the consequences.

"I was worried man, don't you dare to do this again."

"I am sorry bro, I am sorry Erin."

She smiled patting his leg, making a wink towards him.

"Alright, I got to go," Voight announced. "Get better." He disappeared in an instant from the room.

"Sooo are the scars on my arm going to be permanent?"

"Some of them."

"Well, at least Erin hasn't broken up with me yet because of that." He joked looking at her.

"Don't be so sure Halstead."

Jay's day might not be as well as he expected it to be, at least the two most important people in his life were by his side. Oh and Mouse who had no idea about this whole situation. Who knows what happened when he found out?
