5/3/20 Happy belated Birthday Abi!
Outside the Window
The quarantine had started, what felt like, rather abruptly. Genos insisted that the pandemic had been on the news for a few weeks beforehand but since it didn't involve a monster, it wasn't important enough to gather sensei's notice.
Still, it was strange no not be able to leave the apartment. Genos pointed out that Saitama was invulnerable to physical injury, they didn't know how his body to react to a ailment that could attack him rom the inside, so Genos was able to talk Saitama into submission and staying in the apartment while Genos did the weekly shopping.
Each week Saitama would clip the coupons and make a grocery list and give Genos the money to pay for everything, he had a sneaking suspicion that Genos as sneaking it back into his wallet when he was sleeping, but he wasn't getting any of the satisfaction of actually getting the deals without being there. He wasn't getting the satisfaction of laying around, snacking and readying manga either.
Those were things he did while he waited for something to happen. Something to attack to give Saitama the chance to fight, a chance for a challenge, a chance to feel something.
Now even the monsters were staying hidden away. Some of them might have been human once. They must be quarantining too to avoid the new age plague.
Days were going by in a blur. Saitama only really knew time was passing when Genos called him out of his daze for meals.
At least Genos was there, most of the time. Saitama couldn't imagine being stuck in his apartment all day long by himself. He'd probably just sleep until his stomach or bladder demanded attention.
Even before quarantine started, Genos made Saitama's life, not exciting, but more varied. Someone to talk to, eat with, shop with, train with, fight beside. Instead of just him, his thoughts and the TV.
Stretching, Saitama looked out the window. Living in an abandoned part of the city, the area around him had always seemed rather still but now it just seemed lifeless. Barely even a breeze to blow around leaves or garbage.
Eventually, if Saitama looked out the window long enough, he would see Genos return from the store with this week's groceries. The blond hair and the blue sleeveless hoodie he was wearing when he left, standing out among the gray and white of the streets and buildings. A bit of life among the devoid landscape.
A bit of life among the devoid of Saitma's existence.
When was it that Genos went from just some guy who wanted to learn something from him, to someone who he become accustomed to be around? Someone he wanted to be around?
There was something that came with the wanting that Saitama couldn't quite name. Something he wasn't sure if he ever felt even before his immense strength kicked in and his feelings numbed.
A bob of blond, caught Saitama's attention, taking him out of his train of thought. Genos was just starting to come into view, carrying a couple of bags in each hand. He must have bought more then what was on Saitama's list again, but he always insisted that there was some in store sale not in the flyer that he could not pass up and conveniently misplaced the receipt on the way back.
Brushing off his pants, Saitama went to go prep the kitchen for dinner once Genos arrived with the groceries, so he'll be near the entrance to welcome Genos home.
