Strong girls An Da-eun, An Chun-hwa

강한 소녀 안다은, 춘화

Our names are An Da-eun and An Chun-hwa, who lives in Dobong-dong in Dobong-gu. To introduce ourselves, we would be lying if we didn't say we were unique. We have a secret, but not a very well hidden one. We are strong, really, very strong. This special power is passed on matrilineally. If our power is abused for our own gain, the power will be stripped away. Our family history has been charted about our unique abilities. Our mother saved our dad and became a hero by saving girls from an infamous kidnapper. But then she married our dad, and you would think that would automatically make her boring like most people when they get married, but no, she officially became Korea's own superhero.

And we...we intend to be just like her. If only we could achieve our true purpose. Now the reason we can't achieve this isn't that we are small and only 6 but because our dad is overprotective of us. So this is the story of how we try to escape the clutches of our father. Our home is An girl proof. But today, that will change. It's Saturday, and we know that means no school. We get up, and mom is in the kitchen making omelets. Dad is doing dishes from last night's dinner. Mom will be leaving soon, and dad doesn't have to work today, so he will be with us. We are greeted with kisses on our heads and seated at the table as dad takes off his red gloves, setting them down next to the sink. He walks up to us and tussles our hair living flyaways to rise towards the ceiling and begin the construction of a rats nest.

We begin eating, and mom gives us orange juice in our clear glasses. After we finish our last morel, dad clears the plates and glasses, and mom stands up, giving him a kiss, which makes us both grimace and gag. Mom puts on her classic pink sweatshirt and picks up her yellow backpack blowing us kisses as she goes out the door. Chun-hwa and I give dad a hug on his legs and then leave the room to device our plan. We know that one of us can take him, but we don't want to hurt him. So We find the duck tape and a rope underneath my bed. We quietly come back into the kitchen and get a chair behind dad, then at the same time, we push him into the chair. He shouts in surprise as his bum hits the chair, his legs flying into the air. Quickly Chun-hwa tapes him to the chair. It was as if not only was strength her power, but speed was as well. When the job was done, we high fived, forgetting that dad was staring at us with a board but curious look in his eyes. We smiled innocently. "What do you think you two are doing?" he raised his eyebrows, expecting an answer, but the rip of tape finished the sentence covering his mouth. You could begin to see the panic in his eyes as we kissed his cheeks and left-right out the front door.

We went down the stairs, only seeing a few of our neighbors smiling and waving at them. We got down the stairs and went across the street to the children's park. Today we would be heroes like mommy using our strength for good. We passed the gate entrance to the park, the shadow of the leaves on the ground. I heard a thud in the sand. We ran towards it and saw Min-Jun lying on the ground his face towards the sand, Mal-Chin leering over him. "Look, you punk, this is my swing, and everyone knows it. If I see you on it again, there will be worse pain for you than that." he sneered. Chun-hwa glared at Mal-chin, stomping up to him. She immediately kicked him the shin controlling her strength as our parents taught us. He fell to the ground, crying clinging to his leg. He looked up at her angrily. He stood up and went to punch her in the gut. I quickly ran in front of her blocking the punch, pushing him away from my sister. Surprise was on his face as he fell to the ground, roughly sliding, making a track. His hair was covered in sand. I looked behind me and saw Min-Jun standing behind Chun-hwa. I ran up to Mal-Chin pulling him up off the ground by the shoulders of his shirt standing him on his feet a look of fear filled his face as he realized a girl years below him was holding him above the ground.

"Look here ya punk," said Chun-hwa informally to him. "This is all our park, and if you can't respect that, then you shouldn't be allowed here. Remember, you aren't in charge here, we are." She started pointing at me. We backed up from him, and he smiled, trying to seem unshaken.

"I'm not scared of some girls." He laughed and ran over to the swing hoping on beginning to pump. I ran over, stopping it by his feet and grabbing the chain, breaking it in half with my hands, leaving his body with no support, so he tumbled to the ground.

"Understand now?" I smiled at my sister coming beside me. All the kids at the park began shouting our names. He vigorously nodded running off to his house. Min-Jun ran up to us and hugged my sister. I could see the blush on her face as he hugged her, her knees buckling beneath her I laughed and took her hand running back to the road crossing the street. There we saw mom. She smiled and asked, "What are you girls doing?"

"We went to the park to play." We smiled as we heard the children at the park still chanting our names. We both grabbed her hands and began running up the stairs to our apartment. We tried not to make her suspicious of our day. But as we got up to our house and opened the door, the secret was out as she saw dad on the floor tied up to a kitchen chair. Mom snorted and laughed at the sight, spanking us lightly on our bums, laughing as she walked over to him. He rolled his eyes, obviously done with his three girls for the day.
