Rick woke up with a smile on his face. Not wanting his good night sleep to witter away, Rick burrowed himself into his warm and soft sheets. After a few minutes of procrastination, Rick blinked his eyes open, allowing the daylight to greet his sleepy eyes. He breathed in, filling his lungs with much-needed oxygen as he stretched himself on the bed worse than a cat.

Rick was happy. His business was showing steady progress and last night La Marina was a hit. The place was overflowing with customers and he was deliriously happy with the profit they made last night. His good mood was cut short by his phone ringing on the nightstand. He rolled over and pulled his phone. His face instantly bubbled with happiness when he saw TC's smiling face on the screen.

"Hey, TC." Rick chirped. He figured he will make his business partner happy by sharing last night's event.

"Rick."

That was all TC said and the instant he heard the tone in his voice, Rick knew something was wrong. He jumped to his feet, his free hand already searching for clothes to wear. "What's wrong?" He asked as he clumsily pulled a t-shirt over his head.

"It's Thomas."

Rick's heart skipped a beat. "TC?" His voice betrayed him as he sounded like a child.

"You should get down to Queens Medical Centre right now."

Rick was already out of the house even before TC could finish his sentences. Rick disconnected the call and jumped into his car. Rick had always taken his sweet time to drive and enjoy the beautiful Hawaii morning but not today. TC's call had set him on a driving rampage. He was breaking a dozen traffic rules and pretty sure a speeding ticket would be greeting him soon but little did he care at the moment.

After what felt like an eternity, Rick made it to the hospital. He parked his car and ran his way in only to be stopped by TC's figure pacing at the entrances.

"What the hell happened?" Rick's panic-filled voice caught TC's attention.

"Hey." TC held Rick's arm and gently nudged him to the side for a private conversation. "TM has been shot."

TC's voice hit Rick like a storm and it was painful to hear "W-What?" He stammered.

TC nodded. "He went to check a location with Gordon when the suspect surprised them and Thomas was hit."

Out of nowhere, the air became thick, it was harder to breathe. All the thoughts that were keeping Rick grounded scattered in a moment and nothing made any sense. "How is he?" He managed to get words out.

"We don't know much yet. They took him straight in." TC inhaled before he continued. He knew what he was about to say next going to hit Rick pretty hard. "He took a 6mm to his chest."

Dr. Anu sighed as she closed her eyes. It was a long night shift. She couldn't help but grumble when her pager came to live and violated her ears. However, her professional instinct took over and before she knew it, she was running down the hospital hallway to the Emergency Unit where her presence was expected.

"What do we have here?" She asked as her eyes first caught the fluctuating heart monitor. She automatically held her arms out and let the nurse slip in a sterile surgical gown.

"GSW. Trauma to the chest, approximately 3 cm above the nipple." Her colleague, a dear friend, Dr. Darren answered.

"Where do you need me?" Anu asked she knew Darren wouldn't have paged her after her long shift if he didn't need her expertise.

"We performed a CT scan." Dr. Darren briefly looked up. "Check out the linear cloud of density in the whole chest."

Anu quickly crossed the room and scanned through the scan report and her eyebrows rose high practically hitting the roof. That was not something they see every day. She looked at her friend and their eyes meet.

"Now you know why I paged."

The journey to the waiting room seemed long for Rick. Fear thoughts were looping around his mind leaving no room for anything else. He kept saying everything will be alright to himself. He needed something to keep him sane. Once they reach, TC walked in and sat on the couch but Rick simply stood there and took a moment to process what he was seeing. Higgins was in the corner with a phone pressed to her ear. Rick couldn't hear much but once or twice he heard Kumu's name being mentioned. Kumu probably was being informed on what had happened to Thomas. Rick hoped the poor women able to digest what she was hearing. She has always been fond of Thomas.

On the other hand, the sight of Gordon Katsumoto struck Rick the most. Sitting on the couch to the left, with his shoulders sagged, his chin propped on his hands, Katsumoto looked lost in time. The police detective was wearing his normal work pant but his usual trademark shirt was missing. It was replaced with fresh hospital scrubs. Rick swallowed the lump in his throat. He cringed as he knew why Katsumoto was wearing scrubs. It wasn't something hard to figure out. His shirt must have been covered by Thomas's blood, so much that a nurse must have offered the scrubs for him to change.

Rick walked in and joined TC on the couch. Katsumoto barely acknowledged him and it worried Rick. He exchanged his thoughts to TC and the big guy nodded. Higgins joined them after a few minutes. She whispered with a sad smile. "Kumu's is on the other side of the island for a cultural event. She is on her way." She looked over to TC and Rick and gestured her worried eyes towards Katsumoto. "I will get us some coffee." She said before she walked out of the waiting room.

Higgins walked out, giving some time for TC and Rick to talk to Katsumoto. Honestly, she needed some time alone. Unconsciously, she walked the opposite direction and found herself near the Emergency Unit where they first have taken Magnum in. She wondered if he was still there.

"Please be okay, Magnum. Pleaseā€¦"

With the silent request and much heavy heart, she walked towards the cafeteria to get what she promised the boys.

Katsumoto felt a light touch on his shoulder. He turned his head to the side and was greeted with Rick's concerned eyes.

"It's okay, Gordon," Rick spoke with a soft voice.

Katsumoto closed his eyes for one moment. How could things be okay? It was his fault. His fault that Magnum was shot.

"It's not your fault, brother." TC's voice followed next.

Katsumoto shook his head. He knew what they were trying to do and he wished that they will let him own his behavior and not defend his actions. "You don't understand. It is my fault." He stressed those words.

"No, Gordon. Don't do this to yourself."

"I let him chase a suspect with me." Katsumoto turned to his side and was facing them. His eyes were cold and filled with an indescribable level of anxiousness and pain. "What was I thinking? He wasn't even wearing a vest."

Rick inched a little closer and gently squeezed Katsumoto's knee to convey his support and understanding. He huffed before he spoke. "I know it's not going to be easy but it is not your fault. Thomas would say the same thing if he was here."

Katsumoto shook his head, still unable to accept the console given. What happened an hour ago, he could not undo them and his mind was laid waste by that one cruel reality.
