Pain
That was all I felt as my body threatened to rip itself apart.
How did this happen? My memory was foggy, making even the simplest of memories hard to grasp. I was in pain. I was struggling. And I didn't even know why. Attempting to focus, I tried to see if I could recover my memories. If I could just remember, then perhaps I could save myself.
In my furious drifting through an indescribable void, the first memory to familiarize itself was what I was: A Demigod and a Legacy. I was a Wraith.
What I learned next was the most unnerving thing, even more so than my skill in what was essentially murder.
I was supposed to be dead. I didn't know how I died, or what I was doing before I was killed, but I knew I was dead.
If I couldn't remember how I was killed, there were other things that I could at least attempt to remember. I needed to know who I was. Did I have a family? Where did I come from? What year was I from?
What was my name?
But it never appeared. As of that moment, I was nameless. I remembered a few other things, like certain things about the world, but nothing else.
Those were the only memories I could recover. Everything else remained foggy. So close, but yet I couldn't make them out. Not what year it was. Not who my family or friends were. Not even my own name. But I was so angry! My rage was almost insatiable. Was it because I was killed? No, this was something more. It had to be.
But as I looked around, I discovered that was not as important as my current situation. Where was I? Some kind of void, obviously, but what was it exactly? Purgatory? It couldn't be Hell, as I didn't feel punished, and it wasn't Heaven, considering my profession.
Moving felt as though I was attempting to move through some kind of thick liquid, like syrup, and the silence was deafening. I couldn't even hear the sound of my own blood rushing, or my heartbeat. Even with the abilities I had, I was still human. That meant I should at least have a beating heart. But as I forced my arm over to my chest, I felt nothing. Just...
Silence.
All of a sudden I felt something pulling me into the bright light, I groaned and growled in pain and annoyance as I felt pain like I never felt before, as it felt like my blood was on fire and was also acid in my veins.
Without warning an information dumped into my mind filling me with memories of what had happened, but it was blurred. I knew what I was, I knew my mission, but I could not remember my family, I tried but it was to blurry, too unfocused.
My eyes snapped open and I took a gasp of air as I looked around, there were people surrounding me, I still could not hear a thing, but I saw a boy with black hair and sea green eyes mouth, 'Timothy-' his eye wide with worry and concern before I blacked out again.
The next time I woke up I was in a hospital, I was wearing a blue gown, I looked around the room and saw my clothes in a chair besides me, a black leather jacket with studs on the shoulders, a pair of black jeans with a pair of combat boots.
I remembered something, the boy, his name was Percy Jackson… my name was Timothy… We were both sixteen years old, or we looked that way anyway.
A few moments after I came to the realization, Percy and an older woman, I assume she was his mother. Percy rushed to my bedside and asked me, "Are you Okay Timothy? Your heart stopped for several minutes!" He leaned over me.
I had the urge to shove him out of my face, but I cleared my throat and then said to him, "Personal space mate!"
He turned red as a stop sign and backed up. I sighed and closed my eyes, I asked "How long was I out?"
The Woman said softly, "You were only out for a couple of hours, you died…"
I gave her a grim smile and said, "Well I am not dead… yet." I sighed and asked her, "I am sorry Ma'am, but my memory is foggy… I just remembered Percy… but I can't seem to remember your name."
She smiled and said, "Sally Jackson." The name sounded familiar, but I could not place it.
I gave her the best smile I could and said to her, "Pleasure to meet you."
She gave me a smile and said, "We have met before."
I shrugged and said, "Okay…"
Percy cleared his throat and asked, "How are you feeling Tim?"
I sighed softly as I held up a finger as I processed that question, I noticed that I was no longer in any pain, I said to Percy, "No pain right now, but I am still confused."
Sally said, "We will explain everything to you on the way home."
I arched an eyebrow and said, "Come again? I thought you said we met before, not live together…"
Sally smiled and said, "Relax, it is not as if I bite, besides you are an orphan." She looked appalled as she said that.
I held up a hand and said to her, "Relax, I knew I was alone, I always have been."
She shook her head adamantly and said, "You have us."
I shrugged but said nothing.
Percy's stomach growled as he blushed a bright scarlet, he muttered "Sorry, I am getting hungry."
I muttered, "You are always hungry mate!"
He smiled and said, "So you remember something?"
I shrugged and said, "It felt natural."
Sally smiled at us as she said, "I will sign the papers and allow you to get dressed before the nurses come."
I gave her a nod and said, "Thank you Mrs. Jackson."
She smiled and left the room with Percy on her heels.
I sighed and quickly got dressed, I noticed some runes on a chain necklace I had, I slipped it around my neck, and it felt right. I also noticed some tattoos on my arms a scythe and a chain.
I put on my long-sleeved black shirt and then my leather jacket. I paced around the room once before I went into the bathroom, my eyes were two different colors, one was pitch black, while the other eye was an icy blue. My hair was black as ink that never dried. It was in a flat top. My hands were calloused from hard work, I knew I was a killer of sorts, but I could not remember who or what I was killing.
A few moments later Percy and his mother entered the room. I washed my hands and left the bathroom. Right behind them was a nurse, I gave the nurse a cold stare.
She gulped nervously and said, "Sit on the bed and I will run a few tests…" I sighed but nodded my head as I walked to the bed and sat down on it.
A few minutes later I was free to leave, I reached into my front pocket and pulled out a debit card, I shrugged not thinking much of it, though I did not know I had it there. I pulled it out and said to Sally, "Go start the car and meet me in front." I went and paid for the hospital visit.
I realized I must have had a lot of money in the bank when I was able to pay the whole price at once. I shrugged and left the room swiftly as Sally pulled up in front of the hospital. I climbed into the back and sighed as I said, "Let's head home, I am tired, and I am ready for the end of the day."
Sally said, "I understand, you nearly died. Rest, we will wake you up when we get home."
I yawned and slowly fell asleep.
