Welcome to my first one-shot collection :) I do allow requests but please read my description for this story before asking anything! Hope you enjoy! :)
Michelangelo never really was a morning person. Especially not with his late-night video game marathons that usually leave him passed out in bed around 3:00 in the morning. Even with the extra strict trainings Master Splinter had been giving them in fear of Shredder, Mikey still made time to stay up in favor of beating a specifically tough level on Yars' Revenge.
Tonight, the extra lack of energy added to an already messed up sleep schedule had finally had it's effect on the little turtle. Causing the young terrapin to shoot up from his bed with a muffled yell.
Clasping his hand over his mouth, he stayed sat up in his bed while beads of sweat trickled down his head. His recent nightmare had already mostly disappeared from memory but the terror and adrenaline from the dreamworld chase still raced through his mind and body.
After taking in his surroundings, Mikey sighed, bringing up a hand to rub his eyes in an attempt to relax his muscles.
"Good thing Raph's a heavy sleeper." He muttered, referring to his only brother whose room would be close enough to have heard his less-than peaceful rouse from sleep.
Swinging his legs off to the side of the bed, Mikey stared at the floor blankly he tried to recall what had been chasing him. Even after a few minutes of thinking the only thing he could remember was the tall yet swift figure of his pursuer.
Shaking his head, Mikey decided it didn't matter as he assumed he wasn't going to be able to get anymore sleep tonight anyways.
Getting up from his bed, the short turtle glanced at the glowing numbers sitting on his nightstand.
"4:43." The terrapin growled and trudged to his desk, pushing a few papers over before grabbing a tattered sketchbook. He flipped through the pages, stopping at an unfinished drawing he hadn't worked on for weeks.
Grabbing a pencil, Mikey glanced around his room and decided it wasn't the right environment for him at the moment. He cracked open his door and peeked through into the dark hallway to determine it was safe before sneaking into the nearby bathroom.
Shutting the door with a soft click, Mikey flicked on the light. His flinch from the sudden brightness was overpowered by a large yawn as he walked to the side of the tub and sat down.
The sketch he had flipped to was back in front of him as he looked for the best way to continue, and hopefully finish, the pencil drawing.
He began working. And soon seconds had turned to minutes. Minutes becoming hours as the lead danced across the paper.
Mikey's tiredness had been forgotten and his tongue stuck out in concentration, only to be brought back in when the habit was noticed. It was rare for him to have this much focus but when it came to his drawings, Mikey likes to believe Leo would be jealous.
Time had become meaningless as the short turtle continued to scrape the lead against the paper craftily. His picture was almost done, it just needed a bit more shading here...
BAM!
Mikey never thought he could jump as high as he did just then.
"What the shell dude!? What are you doing?!" Michelangelo yelped absentmindedly.
"I can ask you the same thing." Came the surprised yet stern reply. Mikey froze as he realized Leo had just caught him sitting on the bathroom floor drawing.
"O-oh hey Leo. What are you doing up at 4:00 in the morning?" The younger turtle replied sheepishly.
Leo cocked an eyebrow. "4:00 in the morning? Mikey its 6:30."
"What?!" The lime green turtle stood up and pushed past his oldest brother to look at the clock in the hallway.
"Oh...so it is." Leo scoffed, glancing at the closed sketchbook left on the counter.
"Care to explain why you were here so early in the morning?" The taller turtle asked in an accusing tone. Mikey let out a nervous giggle as he racked his brain for an explanation less childish than 'I had a nightmare'.
"Why are you two in the bathroom?" The youngest breathed a sigh of relief as Raph's tired voice gave a perfect distraction from Leo's unanswered question.
"I found Mikey sitting on the bathroom floor at 6:30 in the morning. It looked like he'd been here for a bit."
"What was he doing in here so early?"
"Uhh, dudes I can hear you ya' know." Both brothers turned their heads to the youngest, realizing he was still beside them.
"Ugh alright well I'm too tired for this. See ya at training." Raph grunted before turning around in direction of the dojo. Leo gave Mikey one last worried look before following the red banded turtle.
"Don't forget your mask before practice, Shell-for-brains." The lime green turtle looked up in confusion before realization flooded his face. His hand reached up and sure enough his mask was missing. Mikey sighed as he reached over and grabbed his sketchbook before flipping to the page he had opened to many times that morning.
He gazed at the crisp lines making up the image he had seen so many times in his dreams. He had only seen the creature in his drawing once during a patrol mission. It had been scavenging for food around dumpsters outside some apartments close to April's place and Mikey was only able to catch a glimpse but it was enough for him to be able to sketch out the small cat from memory.
The drawing was of the striped cat except instead of its tattered fur and thin body, Mikey made it fluffy and happier. He even drew it licking napoleon ice cream so it wouldn't be hungry anymore.
Michelangelo smiled at the picture before closing the sketchbook and giving one last look into the bathroom before turning out the light and shutting the door.
Little did the turtle know the cat will be his cure for nightmares in the future.
