Chapter 1:

A Death in the Family

Midori Awata was feeling good. Why wouldn't she? She was the daughter of two well-known Pro Heroes. She had a powerful quirk and was skilled with it. To make things even better she was gearing up for the entrance exam to UA High School. She aimed to be a part of the hero course, specifically in Class 1-A. It was the dream of most people her age. But first she had to get out of bed.

"Midori! Get up already. You're going to be late!" urged her mother Kaoruko Awata, the Pro Hero Bubble Girl. Midori sighed before slowly pulling the covers back and getting out of bed. She was wearing her light blue pyjamas and her hair was a mess. When it came to appearance she was definitely pretty. She had inherited features from both her parents. She had a fair skin complexion which she had inherited from her father, the Pro Hero Grand as opposed to her mother's light blue skin. She had short dark blue hair which was usually rather ruffled like her mother's but stuck out in some places much like her father's. It curved up and down her head. Her eyes were orange. She was also well-built but slim like Kaoruko.

"Okay mum. Just got up" she yawned while rubbing her eyes. She made her to the bathroom where she washed her face, brushed her teeth and made sure to sort her hair. Once she had gotten dressed, she went downstairs and went about making herself some breakfast. On this particular day she decided to have two slices of toast with strawberry jam. She had a bit of a sweet tooth.

"Morning sis" came the small cheery voice of Eri Shindo, Midori's younger sister. Midori smiled when she heard her voice and turned around to find the mini version of her mum smiling up at her.

"Come here you!" Midori laughed as she scooped Eri up into her arms and began to tickle her. Eri erupted into laughter immediately for she possessed the one weakness her mother also possessed. The only main differences between Eri and Kaoruko were their skin complexion, hair colour and eye colour. Eri had a light blue skin complexion like her mother although it was slightly slighter, her hair was dark brown like her father's but had streaks of blue in it and much like her older sister she had orange eyes. She was adorable.

"No stop it! Someone help me!" she cried and Kaoruko walked into the room with a smile on her face. She loved seeing her two daughters enjoying each other's company. It wasn't always like this. There was a time when Midori absolutely despised Eri, most likely due to their conflicting personalities and that Eri was getting their parents' undivided attention as the youngest. That changed as the pair both grew up, but it took a little longer for Midori to tolerate Eri who only wanted to spend time with her. Then that day happened when some kids were making fun of Eri's quirk which was the exact same as Kaoruko's. Midori witnessed one of the little brats using their quirk to rough Eri up and she brimmed with rage. She stepped in, scared the bullies off with a 'demonstration' of her quirk and her relationship with Eri improved ever since.

"That's enough you two. Eri it's time for school" Kaoruko commented and Midori put the mini-Kaoruko down. The pair sat down and ate their breakfast with Midori finishing first.

"Hey mum. Where's dad?" Midori realised the absence of her father, Yo Shindo. Kaoruko shrugged.

"He's probably working overtime. Should be too worried. He's a big boy. He can handle himself" she replied before placing her transparent air filter mask on. She was decked out in her hero costume. While she was a Pro Hero she worked as a sidekick under the hero Centipeder at what used to be the hero agency that belonged to Nighteye. She packed Eri's school bag before grabbing her house keys.

"You ready baby?" she asked her youngest who wiped her mouth and nodded quickly. She got down from the table and took her mum's hand before being led out of the house. She turned and waved to Midori who waved back.

"I'll see you after work Midori. Enjoy your last day" Kaoruko said before closing the door. Midori got to work cleaning up before slinging her own backpack over her shoulder and grabbing her own set of house keys. She straightened her school uniform and left the house, making sure to lock up before she left the premises. Her walk to her school wasn't a long one but it sure felt that way. She did walk with anyone so had to contend with listening to music, not that she minded.

"Time to make a personality shift" she thought as she came up to the gates of her current school. She was highly anticipating leaving this place and going to UA, despite Yo wanting her to go to Ketsubutsu Academy High.

"Hah look it's Awata. How you doing bubbles?" sneered one of her classmates. She wasn't exactly the most popular person and this particular person made sure to remind her that. Hina Nishiya was the youngest daughter of ex-Pro hero Kamui Woods and ex-Pro Hero Mt Lady. She inherited her mother's long blonde hair but was more like Kamui. Her dark earthly skin fit her tall and lithe body type. She also had round bright purple eyes. There was another glaring fact about her. She was a spoiled brat. As the youngest out of three girls she received all the attention and got whatever she wanted. Plus being the daughter of a previous number 7 Pro Hero meant she was rather arrogant and didn't want to share the limelight with anyone.

"I do have a bubbly personality you're right!" replied Midori in a high-pitched voice. This was her father's gift to her; the ability to hide her true self behind a façade so that she could subtly manipulate people. She had chosen this airheaded persona mostly to annoy Hina and it worked.

"You're such a moron. You'll never surpass me as a hero! I'm gonna be number one!" Hina announced and her group of 'friends' cheered her on while proceeding to put Midori down. The latter just smiled innocently and unknowingly.

"I have no idea what you're talking about!" Midori replied and Hina saw red. She proceeded to retort before Midori walked away. "Good luck future number one!"

Once out of view and earshot, Midori breathed a sigh of relief before tensing in anger.

"I'll show you Nishiya. I'll surpass you and bring you down a peg" she determined before entering her classroom, prepared for her final day.

"Alright class I'm supposed to get you to sort some forms out but you're all going to apply for hero courses so there's no point" said the class' teacher who put their head on the desk and fell asleep. The class, minus Midori and Hina, erupted into cheers. Midori still had her façade going while Hina grinned arrogantly.

"I'm surrounded by idiots and arrogance" Midori thought. One thing she hated more than anything was arrogance and unfortunately Hina was the literal queen of arrogance.

"You've got no chance! You'll never get anywhere close to being heroes! Not while I'm still around!" Hina gloated and the class argued back.

"Yeah you go Hina!" cheered Midori just to grind Hina's gears. Hina turned around and glared at her.

"Don't even think of applying to UA bubbles. You'll never get in. They don't need idiots. They need someone like me. Got it?" she threatened. Midori saw this as a chance to break character and smirked which caught the entire class off-guard.

"Loud and clear twigs. Except you can't stop me. If I want to apply to UA, I'd like to see you try and stop me" she challenged and Hina growled before flipping Midori's desk. She sat back down at her own seat and Midori placed her desk back where it belonged. She had enjoyed that.

The rest of the day went by and Midori found herself walking home, excited to see her father and tell him about how she stood up to Hina. She was high on excitement and ambition right now and nothing could bring that down.

"Mum and Eri should be home by now" she remarked out loud as she turned into her road. What awaited her was the exact opposite of what she expected. A police car was positioned outside her house and her front door was open. Multiple thoughts went through her head all at once. Has someone broken in? Was someone hurt? Is there a villain?

"Mum! Eri!" Midori cried in fear as she sprinted for her house.

"Where do you think you're going young lady?" asked one of the officers and Midori looked past him in panic.

"That's my house! Please let me through!" she pleaded, and the officer somewhat sympathetically complied. Midori was unsure why but didn't care at the moment.

"Mum! What's going on?" she asked as she entered the living room only to find Eri sitting in a corner completely silent and still. She was still breathing which was a relief. Kaoruko had her mask off and was sitting on the sofa with her face in her hands. Midori could hear her sobbing. The present officers took small steps back to give Midori and her mother room. Midori nervously approached.

"Mum. What's wrong?" she asked. Kaoruko looked up at her with her tear-stained face.

"It's your father…he…he's…" she sniffed before finally finishing her sentence. "He's been murdered"

And just like that Midori's world shattered.

Author's Note

Hi guys! This is a new story I've taken up. However, this actually runs as a side story to another story on here that is called My Hero Academia: Generation Next. That story belongs to Castle Blades and where that story focuses mainly on the Class 1A, this one will focus mainly on Class 1B. Castle has given his blessing for me to write this so if you want to experience the major plot points that will impact characters here and be mentioned here then definitely check out his story. The plots of both stories will run alongside each other and when the paths of both classes cross he will take over writing on his story I'll then pick back up with 1B when he is finished with them.

Shout out to of course Castle and his very own submitted OC, Hina Nishiya. Hope I've done her justice so far boss. As for everyone else who has submitted an OC in the MHA: Generation Next community you'll be seeing them soon. I have a couple of spaces left for 1B so if you would like to submit pm either me or Castle.

That's all for now. See you next chapter!
