Welcome to my new story. I'm currently working on it, and I'd say I'm halfway in. It should be about 25 chapters. Anyway, it's a contestshipping story with minor ikarshipping here and there. My Word and Pokemon Leaders Academy are on a little hiatus, but I may finish My Word soon since it's almost done. It won't be the greatest, but I'll just finish it to finish it. Anyway, enjoy this one!~

Chapter 1

"She has no one else." the officer tells the older woman as they stand in the doorway. There is a little girl sniffling at his feet, and she has a large bandaid on her forehead.

"Thank you, officer. We'll take good care of her." the older woman gives him a warm smile as she extends a hand to the little girl.

"I know you will, Ms. Lovely. Thank you." the officer then leaves as Ms. Lovely bends down to the girl's eye level.

"Hello, May. I'm Ms. Lovely, and I'll take really good care of you."

With her gaze still on the ground, May sobs some more. "I miss my mommy and daddy and Max." The woman frowns as she reflects on what the officer had told her. Apparently, May's family had died in a horrific car accident last week, but only the little girl had survived. She has no other family or anyone to take her in; thus, she was brought to the orphanage.

Ms. Lovely pulls the little girl into a hug. "I know, sweetie. I'm so sorry." This just makes May cry more into the older woman's arms. She hasn't had a hug since her family's deaths, but this woman is already so warm towards her.

5 Years Later

"Welcome back, May." the 10 year old boy with black hair and red eyes smiles at her.

"Hey, Brenden." she coldly greets him. She had just returned from her 6th foster home since she arrived at the orphanage. People want to adopt the cute little brunette girl, but once she's at their house, they somehow don't want her anymore. She always listens, is at the top of her class, and helps out around the house. Why don't they want her?

Before she realizes it, Brenden engulfs her in a hug. She hadn't noticed she started crying. It just hurts so much being returned, feeling like she's just an object people can get rid of whenever they don't want her anymore. It's not fair! She never asked to be the only survivor of that car crash!

But this is the last time she will feel this way. Next time someone comes to foster her, she will be mean. She'll be disgusting. She'll be annoying and unadoptable. Ms. Lovely is already like a mother figure to her, so she will stay here and help the older woman out. Plus, her friend and crush Brenden is here.

Brenden had arrived 2 years ago after his father went missing on a research trip. The authorities couldn't find any relatives to watch over him, and his mother had passed away a long time ago, so Brenden was brought to the orphanage until his father could be located. However, people believe the older Birch man is gone.

When Brenden had arrived hurt and broken, May consoled him. They're the same age, and she understands the feeling of losing one's family. While Ms. Lovely focused on the other children, May took it upon herself to help pick up Brenden, and eventually, he was smiling. He grew comfortable at the orphanage while helping out.

And then every time May would be brought back, he'd be there to give her a hug as she cried about being unwanted. She doesn't know what's worse: being hopeful of an adoption or being hopeful of a parent to return. Whatever it is, she just knows she will enjoy being with Brenden for as long as she can. She won't let herself go to another foster home again.

7 Years Later

"I'll visit when I can, May." Brenden cries into her shoulder as he hugs her tightly. It pains him to think that a part of him wished his father would never be found because now he has to leave his best friend and crush. However, his father had arrived yesterday alive and well after being lost abroad for 10 years. And now, Brenden is separated from someone else he loves.

Sniffling, the brunette smiles sadly into his chest. Brenden had grown a lot since when they first met, and he's her closest friend as well as her crush. She had always thought they'd spend their time together in the orphanage before setting out for life together next year when they hit 18. They had made a plan and everything about what they'd do once they're out, but now everything is over. She is glad he has his father back though. "I'm happy for you, Brenden." she manages to sob out, which makes him clutch her tighter.

He will be going back to his Little Root home while she stays all the way in LaRousse City. When they finally separate, boths pairs of puffy eyes stare into each other. Brenden gives her a tearful smile. "Friends forever, okay?"

She returns the smile with her own as tears flow faster down her cheeks. "Friends forever." They then hug once more before Brenden walks out with his father, leaving the brunette to cry in the lobby. The elderly Ms. Lovely hugs her tightly. As the owner for many years, she's seen these scenes many times now as friends and siblings are broken up due to adoptions. It is always bitter sweet.

Eventually, when May is 18 a year later, Ms. Lovely becomes too sick to take care of the orphanage. With no money for college, May decides to run the orphanage in her care. She will make sure no children ever feel as alone and forgotten as she felt when her family passed away or when she was in foster care. May will fight for these children because they are her family.

2 Years Later

"What are we going to do with you?" shouts a very red and angry gray haired man as he throws the tablet onto the table.

The loud smash of the tablet makes the green haired woman beside him jump with a start, but she returns her attention to the young green haired man sprawled out on the sofa with no care. "Drew, this is very serious." She sternly tells him.

"Just pay someone to get rid of it again." Drew nonchalantly replies as he scrolls through his phone. He doesn't get why his parents always freak out on him like this when they usually fix the problem within a day anyway.

"No, Drew. This is the final straw." the older man glares at his son. "This is your last warning. If you do something to ruin Haden Corporation's reputation again, you will not inherit the company."

"Honey!"

"Father!" Drew exclaims as he sits up to put his phone back in his pocket. His parents have never threatened him using the company because he is their only child; thus, the only heir. Ah, this is so annoying.

"You almost killed a child, Drew! Your actions are getting worse with each incident, and I can't afford to wait until the day you actually kill someone with your recklessness." his father firmly says referring to the recent drunk driving incident where his son barely missed hitting a child.

Sighing, the woman replies, "Your father is right, Drew. We need to think about the business first."

"But I'm your son! You should always put me first!"

"And you should put your parents first, but look at you! Ruining our company's reputation every month!" shouts his father.

"It's not every month!"

"Andrew Shu Hayden!" the sound of his angry mother's voice stops him from talking. This is so unfair. They wouldn't just drop their only child like that, would they? They wouldn't leave him homeless or anything...right?

"If I may say something, sir." the voice of Hayden Corporations public relations expert, Solidad, rings into the conversation. She had been there the whole time, but wanted to allow the family time to talk with one another. However, with the awkwardness now as well as with her wanting to help her friend Drew, she speaks. Mr. Hayden nods to her. "The courts say Drew will have his license suspended, and we managed to get him off with community service."

"Good. Community service will also make it look like he's changing. It'll be good for the company image." Mrs. Hayden nods as Drew groans.

"Can't we just pay someone to do it?" the young man complains, which earns him a sharp look from his mother.

"You're doing it, Drew. I need you to be doing something constructive rather than worrying about you destroying more things." his father says.

"We suggest working at the local orphanage to show he cares about life and is repenting." Solidad chimes in to the family.

Mrs. Hayden smiles happily as she agrees. "I like that idea, Solidad!"

"How long do I need to be there?" complains Drew.

Solidad looks down at the tablet. "One year."

He groans again. "That's so long. Can't we just pay someone?"

"You're going, and that's final." his father's stern voice makes him flinch, but Drew Hayden doesn't back down that easily.

"You can't take the company away from me, father. I am the most knowledgeable and experienced to take over."

"I'd rather have someone less knowledgeable but more responsible take over this company your grandfather built from nothing than to have you destroy it with your immaturity." Before Drew can retort, his father angrily dismisses him.

Grumbling curse words under his breath, Drew walks out with Solidad. "Thanks for nothing." he tells her, which makes her roll her eyes.

"You're the one who messed up, Drew. Besides, it's either this or the animal shelter."

He cringes at the thought of having to scoop up animal feces. "Can't we just pay someone though?"

"I'm not going behind your parents' backs. They pay me. Not you." smirks the woman as she watches her friend roll his eyes. "You start next week, Drew!" She calls before hurrying off to her office.

Drew inwardly groans while thinking about this unfortunate predicament. Maybe he'll just pay someone at the orphanage to say he worked there? Yeah, that should work. There's nothing money can't buy. Then he can resume his fun hobbies because he's 22 years old! He should be enjoying life rather than slaving away at some poor orphanage.
