Seth sighed as he looked at Selene. His heart was breaking for her, and she had no idea just how much heartache she was about to be in. She had suffered enough through a year and a half of silence. She didn't need this on top of it. This wasn't the ending she deserved to a relationship that seemed to have been dead and forgotten for a long time. At least from the side of the man she loved.

He watched her as she studied herself in the long mirror on the wall in their parents' bedroom. She had gone upstairs to get some time on her own. Social gatherings had never been her thing but their parents always demanded that they both attended. She was studying herself in that knee long, cherry red dress. She gathered her red-brown hair in her hands and lifted it up, only to let it fall back down. Her chocolate brown eyes suddenly noticed him in the mirror.

"Do I look alright?" She asked.
"You always look good," he said.

She turned around and looked at him. Of course she could see something was bothering him. They were close. She was one year older than him, so neither of them could remember a time without each other.

"What is it?" She asked.
"Roman's back," he said. "Before you go down there, you need to know that..."

He didn't get to finish that sentence. She stormed right past him. Before he realized what was happening, she was out of sight.

"Wait! Don't go down there!" He yelled.

He stormed after her. She had made it down the stairs but not a step further. She stood there with her hand still on the banister. He ran down the stairs and gently grabbed her arm.

"He's not alone," she said lowly.
"I know. I was trying to warn you before you went down here," he said.

They both looked at Roman and the blonde woman he was holding hands with. Seth really wanted to jump Roman in that second and beat some sense into the bigger man. Not only had Roman gone dead silent for all the time he was gone, he also had the nerve to show up in their parents' home with a new girlfriend. Sure, Roman worked for their father but he could have had enough sense to know this would hurt Selene. Roman turned his head and locked eyes with her. Immediately his face dropped. Whatever little smile had just been there vanished the second he saw her.

"There you are!" Their father, Hunter, walked over to them. "Come say hello to everyone."
"I don't feel so good," Selene said.
"I know you're not too big on big crowds but you can suck it up for one evening, can't you? For me? Come on. People wanna see you," Hunter said.

Seth's hand slid down Selene's arm. He grabbed her hand and gave it a squeeze. It was his way of telling her he was there for her. They followed their father who didn't seem to have much common sense either since he led them directly to Roman and the blonde woman hanging on his arm.

"You remember Roman, right?" Hunter asked.
"Really, dad?" Seth asked annoyed.
"Right, I keep forgetting about that little fling. Oh well, all in the past," Hunter smirked.

Selene and Roman didn't say anything. They just kept staring at each other. There was a whole lot both of them wanted to say but they couldn't do it in a room full of people. Instead the blonde woman reached her hand forward to shake hands with Seth and Selene.

"Hi, I'm Liv," she said.
"You got a ring," Selene looked at Liv's hand.
"Yes, I'm Roman's fiance," Liv said.

Liv giggled and grabbed Roman's arm with both hands.

"I really don't feel good," Selene mumbled.
"Selene," Roman finally spoke.

Hearing his voice made her turn on her heel and aim for the door. To no surprise Seth came running right after her. She fell apart as soon as he grabbed her. He pulled her in for a hug and tried to comfort her.

"How could he do this to me?" She cried.
"I don't know," he said. "Fuck, I wanna beat him up so bad right now."
"Selene," Roman said.

Selene froze in Seth's arms. Seth felt bad about letting go of his sister but he had to. He turned around and stared angrily at Roman.

"How fucking dare you?" Seth growled.
"How dare I?" Roman asked surprised. "I didn't do anything wrong."
"You piece of shit!" Seth yelled.

Seth slammed his fist directly into Roman's jaw. Roman stumbled back surprised. Any other man and he probably would have hit back but this was Selene's brother. A man he once thought would become his brother in law but things had changed. He straightened his back again and looked at Selene.

"Why are you upset? You left me, remember?" Roman asked angrily.
"I didn't leave you," Selene cried. "You left me. I never heard a word from you. I meant nothing to you. Once you were gone, you forgot all about me. I thought you loved me too. Apparently I was nothing but a toy to you. You never cared about me."
"Now who's lying?" Roman sneered.
"I wanna go home," Selene said. "Seth, can you take me home?"
"Of course," Seth said.

Selene turned to walk to Seth's car. Roman took a step forward. Seth balled up his fists and stepped up to Roman which made the bigger man stop.

"Let me explain," Roman said.
"Not interested," Seth said. "You don't ever fucking come near her again, or I will do more than just punch you."
"Seth," Roman sighed.
"No, I don't wanna hear it!" Seth snarled. "And to think I ever saw you as my friend. You were never good enough for her."

Seth turned around and ran towards his sister. Roman stood there and watched as the siblings got into Seth's car and drove away. He felt his heart break all over again, and he wasn't sure what had gone wrong. All he knew was that he needed to talk to her because clearly they weren't in an agreement about who hurt who. There were a lot of unanswered questions, and he was gonna get to the bottom of it somehow.
