Author's Note: Hello and thank you for clicking on my story :) I know it's a bit cringey that the main character is a rich, misunderstood OC, but I've been wanting to do something like this for a while, so for those that stay to read- thank you :) Also, I'm sorry to any Meiying x Cheng fans! I hope you enjoy my story!

Introduction

Father had never been good at keeping his promises, and I knew that...I learned my lesson at the age of eight when white walls became bars and the scent of rubbing alcohol and sterilizer became the scent of death...I had always been an obedient child, but I couldn't contain the feelings of distress that had been building up...My first mental breakdown had been rewarded with a speech of disappointment and disapproval- I was released from the hospital a week later, but not long after that came the therapy sessions...

"I will always protect you"

"...What a lie…", I had muttered under my breath as the shake of the jet began to worsen and the flickering of the lights began to hurt my eyes, "What a fucking lie…". Since then- since my breakdown- father's business had begun to boom to a degree that even father didn't expect, leading to more business trips and more transfers...Father never had time for me and though he had expressed his guilt on multiple occasions, work was still work and I was just the leftover thing from a failed marriage...For father, it was clear where his loyalties lied...Though make no mistake, despite being the product of a failed marriage, father does love me- though not to the extent as other parents may love their own child…

Sad, really...

"Young miss, we are nearing our destination now. We will be landing in twenty minutes, and your father has already arranged a car for you. I'm sure you'll love your new home, young miss- it looks beautiful and is within a good distance from your new school." I smiled lovingly towards the woman, Yue, my long-time nanny and I suppose, a mother figure too. Her short, stylish black hair was matted and slightly disheveled from her unexpected nap, but her ever-present smile remained, like always.

She was lovely, just like mother, although, I'm not sure I remember much of mother other than her wide smiles, her rosy cheeks, and her long silky hair- she was beautiful...

"Young miss, if you would like, we could take a more scenic route? We could even stop by for a meal somewhere nearby! I'm sure your father wouldn't mind-"

"Because he doesn't care, Yue..."

"Nonsense! Of course your father cares about you! Don't be silly, young miss...your father is just a very busy man, what with the business and all...he loves you, young miss- he does, in his own way...You should've seen your father when he realized he'd have to relocate you again- he was so worried about which school to enroll you in, if you'd like the house and if you'd be happy...I know your father is quite cold at times, but I assure you, young Miss- he loves you dearly…"

"...He's only distant because I look like mother, and he doesn't like being reminded of her...She just left, out of nowhere- and it's not fair! She sends letters and she messages me, but she's never said sorry- she's never apologized for leaving like that and there are no pictures of her anywhere! And I know father cares about me, sort of, but the last time I was in the same room as him was four months ago!... And he only stayed for three days before going to Tokyo...He could've taken me with him..."

"...I know, young Miss- I mean...it's...it's okay, R-"

"Excuse me, Mrs. Zhao and of course, young Miss Jin," the man bowed, "Please, allow me to introduce myself, my name is Xu, Sheng and I am the First Officer. I apologize for interrupting, but we are about to land now and there have been some new arrangements made for you. Your father has asked me to inform you that we will be heading to the Xicheng District- more specifically, the Dashilar District. Your birth home has been renovated and your father thought it would be nice for you to reminisce, young Miss- he has also arranged for you to attend Beijing Luxun Middle School and he says that you do not have to worry. Everything has been finalized...We will be landing in 15 minutes, so please prepare yourselves for landing by putting your seat belts on once more- we will get you both home as fast as we can. I hope you both enjoy your stay- and welcome back to Beijing, young Miss."

I smiled tensely, nodding my head at him, and turned my body towards the window. Yue, naturally, took over the conversation, sensing my trepidation long before the man, Sheng, introduced himself...I had never been good at talking to strangers, my constant moving from country to country preventing me from making any long-term friends- this plane was more like a home to me than anything and whilst I can fake a smile and endure small talk, I wasn't in the mood right now.

Though, looking outside of that small, small window, I felt a sense of ease seeing Beijing again. I was born here, after all, and perhaps this time, father will let me stay...Perhaps I can find a home here, where it all started...

At the thought, I smiled...
