Gotengo: Primed and Ready

Chapter 1

The Earth had little knowledge of the Transformers, a race of techno-aliens from outer space that can copy and transform into any vehicle or electronic with ease. Only secretive government agencies knew of them and handled the mess the war between the Autobots and Decepticons caused. However, through the climactic events of 2016, the world came to know about them...albeit through unfortunate circumstances. Cybertron, the homeworld of the Transformers, through the works of an "unknown force" came to orbit around Earth a bit farther away from the moon.

How all this happened is a mystery to most. While the events of that year cooled down, another grave threat came to Earth. Since the awakening of Predaking, ancient "Gigacons," giant versions of Predacons, reactivated now that Cybertron was healed. While some stayed on Cybertron, quite a few made a break for it, landing all over our planet and wreaking havoc in search of better Energon fields. The nations of Earth founded the United Nations Gigacon Countermeasures Center

Decades later, after years of anguish from the Gigacons, Japan took the world by storm. Conventional weaponry had been proven useless. Nuclear weapons, while useful, only knocked them out for a few hours. The Japanese, as advanced as they were, had something new up their sleeve. Knowing the world was at stake, a team of researchers and engineers, led by the infamous Hachiro Jinguji, created a massive machine that is claimed to slice through Gigacons like a knife through butter.

In 2033, the all-purpose battleship Gotengo was unleashed.

Compared to the military technologies of China, America, and the rest of the world, the Gotengo is a technological marvel. It is capable of flight at a cozy speed of mach two, despite its incredible size. Its speed through the water is unmatched, going eighty knots on and below the ocean's surface. At the front, it possesses a huge drill that allows it to burrow through the ground and saw blades on the top and bottom help with this achievement. Huge cannons and missiles line its deck, and it can discharge electricity if need be.

All of this pales in comparison to its most powerful weapon. Once thought to be impossible, it is now possible to achieve absolute zero. Through the Gotengo's "Absolute Zero Cannon," it can freeze things solid with a single blast of its cannon, though this takes a toll on the energy the ship has.

And, just as claimed, the Gotengo made quick work of multiple powerful Gigacons and smaller Predacons that accompany them. It was thought it was invincible, that the Gotengo could take the Gigacons down and save humanity. Little did they know, the Gigacons are sneaky beasts, and can adapt quickly if given the chance.

During a patrol in the Pacific, the Gotengo was attacked by a massive sea serpent Gigacon, known through its codename as "Manda." Despite having fought similar Gigacons in the past, Manda proved to be a match for the battleship. In a last-ditch effort to rid Manda from our planet, Hachiro Jinguji, who had been the captain since its creation, made a beeline for the volcanic ocean floor.

The heat caused Manda to flee, but it quickly returned to finish it off. With its target in range, the Gotengo fired its Absolute Zero Cannon, hitting the Gigacon dead-on and freezing it solid. In order to prevent it from possibly recovering, for they did not know if Gigacons could come out of the "comatose" that is brought by the Absolute Zero Cannon, they rammed into Manda with its drill, tearing the serpent into sheet metal.

While the victory was sweet, it was obvious that the Gotengo wouldn't make it. So, with what little energy and time it had left, the crew went to the surface, where they were saved by the United States Pacific Fleet. The Gotengo, filling with water, sunk to the ocean floor, declared lost in 2039 by the U.N.G.C.C. Due to the fatal depths at which it rested, no nation, even Japan, was able to salvage the wreck to be used in other machines.

The recreation of the Gotengo was costly. Japan or other nations couldn't cough up the money needed for such a project. The economy was dismantled by the Gigacons, and, with no other option, humanity returned to conventional and nuclear weaponry in hopes of at least deterring the giants away. The Gigacons, which seem to be reproducing both on Cybertron and on Earth, increasing the number of them, ran rampant across the globe once more. Major cities were destroyed, and paths of destruction further inland are apparent across all continents.

Since the mid-2040s, however, the Pacific region hasn't seen much activity. How? This question was asked by many when they heard the news. Despite the Gigacons apparently working on their own accord, they never attacked each other. Could it be a rogue Gigacon? Could it be some sort of secret superweapon?

Or is it something else?

This story will probably get a lot of backlash for the ideas I thrust in there...anyhow, yeah I know it's short. I wanted to make it longer, but I felt this was a good place to stop. Now, I hope you enjoyed this brief intro into the backstory, and if you want to see your own ideas here, I will gladly accept them and try to implement them to the best of my ability.

Why is Cybertron in Earth's orbit now? While this story is mainly a Prime story, I felt like including a few plot points from other continuities, especially the Bayverse which I am more familiar with.

What's a Gigacon? Well, if you read, they are essentially kaiju versions of Predacons. With Manda as an example, many of them look like monsters from Godzilla, Gamera, and plenty of others, but with a Predacon twist to them. Of course, there is no record of something similar to a Gigacon existing in Prime canon, so I took the creative liberty of making them up for this story.
