I had an idea and ran with it. after reading other fanfics about Lila, I wanted to explore it myself and this is what I've come up with so far.
let me know your feelings on the reasonings behind the divide, not sure where this one is going, but its started and I like to finish my tales as I want to know what happens!
Hope you enjoy!
trigger warning: bullying
There were many things Marinette was not sure of anymore but alas, she was sure that:
A. Alya's friendship was fickle.
B. Adrien was her best friend.
C. Chloé was not as bad as she thought.
D. Lila was a stupid ass bitch that deserved to have her face met by an eighteen-wheeler truck, travelling at unrecognised speeds...
Too much? Possibly, but she definitely needed taking down a peg or two!
No one had ever got into Marinette's head like Lila. The conniving little c-you-next-Thursday, had managed to single handedly split the once serene tranquility of their class, into a ticking time-bomb of #teamlila and #teammarinette. This young lass was a force to be reckoned with, even without the state of Akumatisation, the destruction to people she could generate, was on whole new level.
Marinette was currently sitting in a fancy boutique watching Chloé try on shoes. Shoes that would definitely result in, if not a broken ankle, a seriously twisted one.
"Nette! Look at me," she laughed as she tried on what felt like the thousandth pair of stilettos. "I'm definitely relying on you tonight!"
Marinette laughed as Chloé stumbled towards her, tripping over her bag and landing with a thump on the puff next to Marinette. "I think my clumsiness is rubbing off on you!" Marinette exclaimed as she stifled another laugh. "We're only going the theatre, why do you need those-"
"Because, I'm hoping he will be there tonight!" She swooned and leant on Marinette with an accentuated sigh. Looking up to the ceiling she held her hand up as if reaching out to someone. "And he's six foot massive and I'm diddy next to him."
Marinette pushed Chloé off her gently and gave her a knowing look, "he's already told you he likes you." Rolling her eyes she continued, "why go to the trouble of possibly ending up in hospital to try and impress him?"
Chloé got back up after taking off the white Jimmy Choo's and bent down to look Marinette in the eye. "Because, my naive Netty," Chloé turned around and slumped in Marinette's lap, legs sprawled on the floor, dramatically draping her arm over her forehead and staring up to the ceiling again. "I want him to LOVE ME!" She exclaimed then added quickly, "and plus, my legs will look killer with big heels and that little hemline," admiring her tanned pins.
Getting up, Chloé could see the amusement in Marinette's face and smiled at her friend. They had become almost inseparable during these last two years of school, and neither of them could have predicted the turn of events that had lead to this. Neither cared though, their personalities complimented each other, and they had grown to become a force to be reckoned with. With Chloé's support, Marinette had been able to come to terms with the new dynamic within their class, and with Marinette's support, Chloé had realised that she had a great capacity to be kind and understanding. Sure there were still moments Marinette and Chloé relapsed into dwelling and insulting, respectively, on a whole though, their unexpected friendship had kept them sane.
Lila had undeniably infiltrated the class, much to Madame Bustier's dismay, and now there was an apparent line that neither of the sides crossed. Friends had stopped talking, friendly rivalries were not so friendly anymore and the two girls had lost their respective sisters from a different mister. Alya had majorly failed Marinette, something that Chloé had helped her to process, and Sabrina had shown how easily her head could be turned. The lack of loyalty that had been shown was unthinkable. Thus the friendship of Marinette and Chloé was born.
The class now stood as this:
#teamlila
Sabrina, Alya, Nino, Mylène, Alix, and Max.
#teammarinette
Adrien, Chloé, Kim, Ivan, Rose, Nathaniel and Juleka.
At first, the divide had not been so apparent, but ultimately, it was the way the others had either accused or defended Marinette which had swayed those sitting on the fence. Poor Ivan was heart broken, when Mylène had chosen to believe one of Lila's bullshit tales, leading him to sway to Marinette's side, as he was starting to find holes in the brunette's stories. Mylène couldn't believe anyone could lie so prolifically, therefore, took it ALL as truth.
Alix had thought very much the same as Mylène. And after thinking about some of the, admittedly crazy, schemes Marinette had been a part of to try and profess her love to the boy with blonde locks, she had misinterpreted these actions as cunning and calculated, not the desperation it actually was. Marinette had some hope though, knowing that one day Alix would be a Miraculous holder, showed her that the trust would have to have been restored there. Marinette had pondered however, why future Alix hadn't come back and knocked some sense into her past self. Maybe all this was necessary, and time is something not to be played with.
Kim, on the other hand, didn't like Lila. Much the same as Nathaniel, he did not like the constant showing off indirectly, or the backhanded compliments. Unfortunately there was still a deep running rivalry between Kim and Alix, but the banter was no longer present. Nathaniel knew how kind Marinette was, and could never contemplate imagining her doing some of the vile acts Lila had accused her of, for him, it was a no brainer.
Max, had unfairly, accused Marinette, and his friends reactions to this, had pushed him unintentionally on to the side of Lila. Juleka had always tried to avoid conflict, along with Rose, and the pair had stayed mostly neutral. They had however seen the way their friends had started to segregate Marinette and talk badly about those who supported her. At the same time, they had witnessed Marinette asking people not to get involved, resulting in them seeing the good side to Marinette, thus, in their eyes proving she was not capable of the horrid incidents she was being accused of.
Sabrina was slightly more complicated. Her tale of treachery was more against Chloé than it was Marinette. Two old friends who were inseparable, had jealousy thrusted between them. As Chloé had also been alienated by Lila, Adrien had suggested she go and see Marinette, to talk things through together, and shed some light for each other. As Marinette came under more fire, Chloé had been the one to stand by her side, along with Adrien, and it had not taken long for Lila to pick up on the attention Sabrina craved. For Lila it was easy, she gave Sabrina attention, told her everything she wanted to hear, and that was that. Chloé had tried to make things right with her friend, and Marinette had also attempted to assist, but this had just backfired further. Years of friendship had been lost between the two girls, but Chloé was happy with this new type of friendship she had formed with Marinette.
As for Adrien, he had always been waving the flag for Marinette, even before it had become so dire within the school environment. As he was so eager to shoot down anyone who had anything bad to say about his everyday Ladybug, there had been a few too many heated arguments with a critical Alya. Unfortunately for Adrien, Nino pledged his allegiance to his queen, when Adrien had unfortunately, but understandably, inadvertently insulted Alya. Alya on the other hand was a different kettle of fish.
Alya had always been there to support Marinette in any which way she could, but Alya was convinced that Marinette was jealous of this new rival for her desired's heart. It seemed to Alya, that Marinette was trying to dispute the girls initial claims, to try and put Adrien off the new girl. However, it was because of Marinette's despise for lying-granted she did it on a daily basis but come on!-and her want to prove it, combined with the fact that it was seemingly her in Lila's way of obtaining the handsome heart throb that is Adrien, which made Lila set her sights on the downfall of the bluenette.
The last two years had definitely opened up Marinette's eyes. In this time Lila had accused her of all sorts. Ranging from water in her backpack, to slamming her fingers in the door. The situation had turned sour fast. On one occasion, there had been shaving foam sprayed into Lila's locker, and Marinette had been blamed. Marinette had disputed this, and then found that her locker was done a few days later, Lila had convinced some that Marinette had done it herself, to throw them of the scent that she had previously done it to Lila.
There had been typed up notes threatening Lila's safety, and stolen 'precious' items mysteriously turning up in Marinette's bag. It had become so extreme that Marinette wouldn't even go to the toilet on her own anymore during class. The teachers always allowed her to be accompanied however, but it was required that it be someone of their choosing. Marinette was finding it extremely difficult to be able to transform without the gaze of prying eyes. As if her every movement was being monitored to either prove or disprove Lila's tales. Due to this, Chloé had been given her Miraculous permanently, Ladybug saying she was unable to always be available due to personal circumstances. At least this way, Chat had help on occasions when Marinette had not been able to escape the gaze of her peers.
Next to her civilian life, being Ladybug was a piece of cake! Hawkmoth had apparently ceased trading for the past few months, allowing Marinette to focus on her school work, maintaining her innocence and trying to just enjoy the moments she could. Like this outing with Chloé.
As a class, they were attending the theatre tonight, and Chloé had her heart set on clinching the deal to snare her beloveds heart. As the class had divided in such a way, Chloé had become closer to those she had never thought she would. One person in particular was Kim. Marinette knew he was head over heels for her, but he wanted Chloé to be sure. She had broken him when they were younger, causing him utter humiliation, resulting in Kim becoming Akumatised and the onslaught of hate had ensued. He wanted her to be certain, as he would have her in heartbeat, but needed to understandably protect himself.
Chloé was certain, this was the man for her! She wanted to make him happy, something Marinette could not have ever envisioned a few years ago. So much had changed.
