Forty Bucks Says I Can

"Dude, you seen the new girl? She's super hot." Finn, one of your friends at the table is obviously smitten with the new arrival. "Five bucks says I can kiss her."
"Oh yeah?" Derek, another guy chimes in. "Ten bucks you can't."
"I'll take that, Derek. Be prepared to cash out."
You think this has gone on long enough. "You seriously think you have a chance man? She's already given five guys black eyes for weeks, and three of those she kneed in the crotch when they didn't take the hint."
"Come on, Percy. Look at me! The perfect picture of manly physique!" Finn sits up straighter at the table and pulls a strongman pose. At this you double over in laughter.
"Because I don't want to crush you too bad, I won't take your bet. But tell you what. Forty bucks says I can." The table falls silent. "You serious dude?" A third guy, Hal, has a disbelieving look on his face. "I mean look at what you just said, are you sure you want to lose your sight and forty dollars?"
"Oh I'm serious. Anyone taking?" Finn, who you know to be in need of cash, rubs his hands exitedly. "This'll be the easiest forty dollars I'll ever make."
"As if you'll ever make anything in your life!" Derek sends the table into laughter, and the conversation revolves round to Finn and his procrastination of finding a job.
"Alright Perce. Last chance to back out. You're sure you got a chance?" Since lunch the new girl has made an ever bigger name for herself, blacking the eyes of four more students who thought they had a chance (as if) and near-castrating two others.
"Pssh, this is easy. Watch Finn go bankrupt before your eyes." Leaving Finn and the jokes about his poor situation, you walk up to the new girl. Her curtain of golden blonde hair is shimmering from the sun through the windows, and is preventing anyone from seeing her face. You would know your girlfriend anywhere though. Putting a hand on her shoulder, you use a universal conversation starter. "Hey." Her shoulders stiffen at your voice.
"Favourite colour?" Her voice is just as soft as ever, with the edge that warns you you're about to get judo flipped.
"Blue."
"Mine?"
"The colour of my eyes."
"Our favourite memory?"
"Under the lake at camp. Gods, Wise Girl, you don't need a security blanket to check it's me-" At "Wise Girl" all murmurs of conversation from your mates fall silent as the girl spins around with a smile on her face and pulls your lips to hers. "Hey Seaweed Brain." You hear from her lips. "Hey Wise Girl." You mutter against hers. After a few more seconds you separate, and look over at your friends with a smirk, seeing the resignation on Finn's face that he's going to have to pay up.
(A/N DAM thank you so much for the views and reviews! This is by far my most popular story for a guy who's only been writing on the site a week, so -self promo alert- I have another story, The Quest for Eileithyia, horrible name but it's all I had. Chapter 1 is already up, chapter 2 is coming out today, and the rest of 1-7 are coming out daily for the rest of this week (if you are reading this on the day it was updated, 27-4-20). After that, it's going to be a weekly or biweekly update schedule, depending on how well this is received. Again thank you for reading my stuff, pretty much the only reason I'm writing this is because I needed something else to do rather than play through Gens 1-5 of pokemon (Sue me. I'm a nerd. Deal with it.) so the support is much appreciated.
See ya on the other side,
