Harvey lounged back against the pillows on her bed as he watched her take herself apart and there was a level of intimacy in the moment that surprised him. There was just something so honest and real about watching Donna lose her work exterior and reveal her true self underneath. The expensive figure hugging dress that had driven him crazy all day sliding from her shoulders, replaced with a simple, comfortable top and pants. Her previously perfectly styled hair pulled up out of the way, gathered up on top of her head in a messy bun. Jewellery slipped from her fingers and ears and carefully placed away. Makeup, so expertly applied that morning, now slowly removed. He watched as her freckles became brighter and her features softened. She looked so fresh and youthful and he felt a surge of emotion towards her that he now finally knew what to name, love.
Donna had always been beautiful to him, and there had been numerous times that he can recall over the years when the sight of her had literally taken his breath away. But he thinks to himself in that moment that she has never looked more beautiful than she did right then. Bare and natural and real and his.
Before he could be swept any further away by his thoughts Harvey's curiosity was piqued as he watched Donna lean forwards, right in close to the dresser mirror, a concentrated expression on her face. Confusion rippled through him as she reached her hands up to her left eye, one hand gently pulling down the bottom lid while the fingers of the other pressed to her eye, unsure what she was doing. That was until he spotted the tiny curved clear item resting on the tip of her finger as she moved her hand away.
A contact lens. Harvey had no idea Donna even wore them. She had never mentioned it before, nor had he ever seen her wearing glasses he thought, as he watched her repeat the process with her other eye.
He felt a little thrill of joy that he was now privy to these intimate details of her life. That Donna was comfortable enough to let him in on her personal little secrets that she previously hadn't shared. He always thought he knew her better than anyone else but in just these few days they had been together Harvey was discovering they still had so many more little things to learn about each other.
She caught his eye in the mirror, watching him watching her and she narrowed her eyes at him slightly.
"What's that look for?"
"I just never knew you wore contacts," he replied, grinning back at her.
"Oh" and she blushed slightly for some reason. Donna packed away the last of the things on her dresser and then reached into one of the drawers, withdrawing a pair of glasses before coming to join him on the bed.
"Are they new?" Harvey asked, curious just how long he had been missing this detail for.
"Hmmm about a year," she said with a shrug.
And he can tell that for whatever reason she was a little self conscious of this new development. He wasn't sure whether it was the physical fact of having to wear them or perhaps he wondered, the idea that needing them could be seen as an age related issue.
Harvey nodded his head towards the glasses still clutched in her hand.
"Are you going to put them on?" He was filled by a sudden desire to see her wearing them.
"I think I look a bit silly in them," Donna wrinkled her nose in distaste and Harvey could only think how adorable the action was. God he really was such a goner, he thought to himself.
"Please," he said pleadingly and he gave her what he hoped was his best puppy dog eyes.
"You're an idiot," she laughed at him and rolled her eyes but with a sigh she slipped the pair of glasses onto her face, grimacing a little. "You asked for it," she added in a mock warning.
Donna turned to face him, and there was a flush of embarrassment on her face, a shyness Harvey very rarely ever saw her let show. The glasses were simple, the frames a dark brown tortoise-shell colour, and the shape and style were the perfect match for her beautiful face. He had initially wanted to see her wear them out of sheer interest and because he was certain she would look cute in them. But as he took in the sight of her he felt another type of emotion start to flood his body, something building from down low, heat and desire. The whole look, casual Donna wearing glasses, instantly igniting a fire inside him.
"See I told you I look silly" she huffed reaching up to take them off. Harvey's hand immediately shot out to stop her, tucking the arms of the glasses back over her ears.
"Oh no, quite the opposite." He levered himself over her, dragging her body down under his and pressing his lips to her neck, trailing kisses along her throat.
"You look sexy as hell Donna," he growled into her ear.
"Harveyyy," she protested with a laugh. "I think we need to get your eyesight checked" and she pushed playfully against his shoulder.
He pressed the weight of his body against her, letting her feel the evidence of just how serious he was about the effect she had on him.
"Oh no I'm seeing perfectly clearly," he dragged his lips over her jaw to reach her mouth. "Finally," he added with a deep sincerity ringing in his voice, joining his lips with hers. The kiss started soft and gentle before quickly turning passionate.
"It's about time" she gasped, breathless as they pulled back for air.
Harvey pulled back slightly to meet her eyes, holding her gaze "I'm sorry it took me so long."
She brushed her fingers through his hair, tugging him back down towards her face.
"You were worth the wait" she murmured before joining their lips once more. And Harvey vowed from that moment on to always live up to her belief that he was.
