It was near night in Manhattan, New York and a red and blue finger was crawling on walls to look over the city. From the web of his wrist Web-Shooters devices, he shot out his own went to sling about the city to look around. He was 15 year old Peter Parker dressed in his suit of a red ski mask, goggles, a blue jumper, a red sleeveless hoodie over it, blue sweat pants, red fingerless gloves and red boots.

After a genetically altered spider bite while attending a public demonstration at Alchemax Labs which led to his Uncle Ben's death and him wanting to protect people and fight crime in his memory; he had put together his own homemade suit and gadgets to us his new powers to be a street Superhero called Spider-Man with his roughly in his second month of his Superhero career.

He would need to get home soon before Aunt May realises that he isn't at home so hopefully he would be able to take care of anything that could happen quickly. He saw a police chase and thought this could be it as he then web slinged to the front of the van.

Using his super strength he caused the van to come to a screeching halt and masked men outside came out with their guns. Using what he called his Spider Sense he was able to dodge their attacks before taking them down with punches and his Webs. Then came a familiar man in a purple jumper and black protection goggles for the high tech gauntlets on his hands.

Peter realised who it was, a criminal by the name of Herman Schultz who Peter had fought before and had gauntlet devices which sent out a vibrational wave. "Is that you Shocker? How did you get out as I am pretty sure that I brought you in last week?" Peter asked using the nickname that he gave him running up to him but having to dodge a particular powerful blast coming his way.

"It just took me a competent lawyer to get me off considering that you just left me hanging on a web to a wall. The police didn't have much of a case thanks to you and I had time to finish some upgrades to my gauntlet." Schultz taunted with Peter groaning knowing that he still needed some work in his Superheroing.

There was this internet news guy called Jameson who started badmouthing him on his Daily Bugle website.

Peter had to dodge some more blasts before he could get anywhere close to him, "Did you make these because they are incredible, you know that you could have sold them to make money legitimately?" Peter commented on feeling honestly impressed by the bad guy tech Schultz made for himself.

"I already had a bad rep before I had my breakthroughs and by that time no lab would hire me!" Schultz snarled but then from behind he was grabbed by the wrists and his gauntlets were smashed. Schultz freaked out when he turned around and Peter saw to his awe was a smiling green skinned incredibly tall, Amazon like woman in a dark purple bodysuit which showed her legs and arms with a white line down it, dark purple fingerless gloves and white boots.

Peter knew this was Jennifer Walters the She-Hulk who had became a Superhero the previous year, she was like the Hulk's cousin and was a member of the Avengers and was even a lawyer in her day job. Apparently she always looked like this, even when she was being lawyer which was super awesome to Peter.

Then came in several armed agents of the FBI and pointed their guns at Peter as they took Schultz into custody making him gulp. "Leave the poor kid alone as he was just helping." Jennifer said with them putting their guns down as she kneeled down to look at Peter making him nervous. "Your buddy Schultz had stolen some documents relating to the FBI. Don't worry as it is being taken care of, you're Spiderling isn't that right?"

"Spider-Man with a hyphen!" Peter corrected frowning that he was being treated as a kid in his first meeting with an actual big leagues Superhero. Jennifer then patted his head as if he was a puppy making him groan.

"Well off you go then Spider-Man but jsut be careful as this is a dangerous job so make sure that you don't bite off more than you can chew." Jennifer told him as Peter nodded and then went to web sling home.

5 YEARS LATER

The now 20 year old Peter Parker was in the apartment that his Aunt May had helped him move into 2 years ago, there was a table which he had used as a makeshift chemistry table so he could mix and create his webs. There was another table there which he had used work on his gadgets including his Web-Shooters and the special lenses inside his mask. A modified sewing machine which he had used to make his suits and they had evolved beyond the homemade one that he had started out with. They were now being made with a special fabric that he had managed to get his hands on with a full face mask with the special lenses installed in.

On his wall he looked to the framed graduation certificate for Midtown High (didn't make valedictorian which is understandable when you had to be late from time to time to deal with nearby crimes happening) and his graduation diploma of Empire State University along with teh framed graduation photo of him with his Aunt May which was about two weeks ago.

He was now out of school and now out in the adult world officially, he was about to now start full time employment at Horizon labs. It was a lab ran by one of his own personal science heroes Max Modell and he had been interning there since late in his high school days. It was difficult having to juggle that, his school and being Spider-Man but he had managed to make it well. Plus he had managed to impress Mr Modell enough that he now had a full time position and not just a paid internship which had went to his college funds.

He glanced at the calendar and he had gotten a reminder of a time he had written on today's date which was circled several times. He was in a panic and looked at the time and realised that he still had plenty of time to get to the courthouse before the time because it was time for him to face jury duty after getting the summons two weeks ago.

He quickly got his Spider-Man suit and equipment into his rucksack and exited, he could never be too certain if he would need it later on. Taking a moment to make himself look as presentable as possible in the mirror, he walked out and took the quickest route to the courthouse.

He went to the back of the line that the bailiff had set up for those with Jury Duty, once ready they were shown to their seats in the courthouse. The case would be for Jefferson Davis a cat burglar and a small time gadgets inventor who was caught trying to rob the home of a big time executive at Alchemax. He would be doing a plea bargain for leniency on his sentence in exchange for handing over all the information he had on the Maggia crime leader that he had been working for at the time.

Peter was growing nervous in his seat as Jefferson a bald headed African American man in a goatee walked down to face the judge and the court. Peter knew him very well as he had dealt with him plenty of times; Jefferson went by a purple bodysuit and used his gadgets and athletism to sneak into places undetected. This had earned him the nickname of the Prowler.

In fact it was Peter as Spider-Man who got to him as he was attempting to get into the executive's home and had defeated him and left him for the police. Peter was growing nervous and guilty wondering if this counted as conflict of interest and the legal trouble he could get into if it got out that he was Spider-Man. He wasn't talking about being a vigilante; it was more about being on duty in the case of a criminal that he had helped caught.

Jefferson was being followed by his defence lawyer in his case, the tall and beautiful Jennifer Walters who looked dignified and serious despite her huge size and green skin. She was in a black business suit with glasses and her hair tied down. He still remembered that day that he had gotten to see her in person as a rookie Superhero.

Jefferson faced the court as Jennifer entered his plea.

However some time after proceedings had gotten started, people jumped as they heard the fire alarm go out. The guards began calling for everyone to evacuate but Peter felt his Spider-Sense go off.

He was shocked to see that one of the guards that were escorting Jefferson out was taking out a gun and aiming for him. He then leapt towards him and took the guard down just before he would fire. "You should have done that you punk!" the man snarled as he got up and was about to fire at Peter with him wondering what to do without jeopardising his secret identity.

However Jennifer came and grabbed him by the collar and picked him up, Peter saw Jennifer give him a look and he nervously exited with everyone out. He was among those in a crowd and saw the guard being escorted out in handcuffs and was stunned to see them pulling apart his face to reveal that the face was actually a high tech mask with a full face white mask underneath!

"The Chameleon, he must have been hired by the Maggia to silence Jefferson before he had a chance to squeal. The alarm was probably a diversion and was counting on the chaos to hide what happened." Peter thought as the Chameleon was a criminal terrorist that he had dealt with before. A career criminal who used face disguise holographic tech that was used by the peacekeeping anti-terrorist organisation Strategic Homeland Intervention and Logistics Divison or SHIELD for short. Needless to say the Case would have to be postponed for now and so Peter decided to leave but he didn't realise that in the rush that his wallet had fell out of his pocket when he went to tackle the Chameleon.

Or that a certain lawyer had picked it up...

Spidey's suit in here is the suit from the first Amazing Spider-Man movie (not that he had a chance to use it yet here in the story). I actually really liked that design (probably my 2nd fave movie Spidey suit after the MCU Homemade suit and followed by the Stark Suit) and I did miss it in Amazing Spider-Man 2.

I have little knowledge about court cases (with most experience writing about them would be in my Helping Spider-Man story) and when it comes to fiction outside of comics most of what I know about Jury Duty was if characters in an episode was called for it. Like the episode One Angry Bravo of Johnny Bravo (a strong contender for my all time favourite episode of that show along with Biosphere Johnny, although it wasn't so much as him being called into Jury Duty as it is accidentally stumbling into it when he came to the courthouse expecting to meet Santa Claus and I promise you that what you just read actually makes sense in context of the episode) and an episode of the Flintstones where Fred was the foreman of the jury and he had to go into hiding with the family when the criminal he had declared guilty swore vengeance. Plus I mostly know courtrooms in fiction would be in things like the Ace Attorney games and the Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law cartoon (if you liked the show then I strongly recommend the Harvey Birdman: Attorney General special).
