She purred, checking out her new world with what senses she had. She could hear nothing but muffled purring and she could feel nothing besides the rasping of her mothers tongue down her spine, the young kitten noticed she immediately felt bonded to this strange cat, she felt strong love towards her mother. Curiously she spread out her legs testing her surroundings. She felt nothing but cold where she touched until something dragged her to warmth. She called out in fear before realizing she felt warm and she liked that and a instinct told her to search for food and she did, finding it and began quietly suckling. Suddenly she sensed something else watching her and she tried to hide in the fur of the fur of her mother but after squirming around she grew and soon stilled. She heard voices but could not understand them and they sounded muffled and soon she drifted into sleep.

Soon a month flashed by and the young kitten had opened her eyes and ears and had learned how to understand cat-speak and how to walk. She was simply exploring outside of the cave they had lived in for the past month. She was excited and bouncing around because today her parents had promised to teach her how to hunt, and as tradition the first thing she caught she would be named after. But she wanted to try herself first for she was curious how she would do with no help. Her father was currently in the den with her mother and thinking of a plan quickly she used what things her father had told her. She turned and fled into the trees that surrounded the yellow clearing they had nested in. It had rained just the day before and the ground was slick with mud, exactly what she hoped for. Dropping down she rolled in the mud her pure grey coat was soon clay brown. Getting up she continued her path, quietly and slowly now as to not alert anything. She weaved between leaves and sticks that would create a ruckus if she stepped on them, suddenly a bright a long bird call came ahead of her. She stopped and crouched slightly, she had never liked fully crouching and preferred this half bent stance. Slowly she inched forward still weaving around noisy obstacles.

The young cat saw the bird, it was unlike any bird she had seen, it was full of colors. So bright she could name all of them on the bird, Blue, Red, Yellow, Green, Purple and so many other and even different shades and mixes. The bird was incredible and as it called out again the young cat came nearer, but transfixed on the glory of such a creature she forgot about stalking and did not watch her step, the crinkling of leaves filled the forest and the background noise she had not noticed dropped down. The bird turned its head and looked at her, she paused and the bird did not move. The young cat curious stepped even closer. She was in pouncing range and yet the bird did not move and the young cat did not pounce. She stepped forward without pausing now until she was right next to the bird. Still it did not move. Curious still she leaned down putting her face right in front of the bird. It did not move. Wondering now why it was not fleeing as her father said prey always did the young cat pulled a paw over it and touched it. Her paw suddenly burned and she leapt back but the feeling quickly flashed by her body until she felt like everything inside of her was on fire and suddenly it was gone. She looked at the bird ponderously and it suddenly was grey, just as she was. 'How this bird was just the brightest rainbow but now it looks like me? And what the hell did it do to me?' The young cat looked down at her paw and jumped slightly startled when she saw her paw was not grey any longer but a steady tan color. "What just..." She said out loud as she looked behind her, her tail was now ringed with a dark brown color and the tip was the whitest tan color. Seeing her cheek fur curve into her vision from being pressed against her neck she saw it as well was the same tan color. Her new colors also included, she noticed, dark striped running up from her tail rings to the middle of her spine before stopping, her back paws also had the same dark brown color as her tail rings and stripes. But most incredible of all she saw she had... Wings, she spread them out, both wings were black with white dots almost like a night sky running down them. Amazed she tucked them into her sides and they suddenly matched her fur color. "What did you do to me?!" She exclaimed to the bird as she turned around, but the bird was gone. "Oh that's great." She muttered to herself.

Suddenly she remembered her parents and the naming assignment. How was she supposed to explain this... As she trot back to her home she kept her wings tucked. 'I should probably not tell them about these.' She thought to herself as it struck her. She technically caught that bird right? Well she caught its colors. Colors... "That's it! I'll be named Color!" Color yelled out loud happy with her name. Finally making it back to the clearly she had thought out how to explain this to her family and she sniffed wondering if they were even still here or out looking for her. She was about to leave to try and follow a scent trail when claws raked down her sides grabbing her and pulling her back, tripping over herself and her surprise she fell to the ground and turned and saw her father and relaxed but he did not stop the assault as he growled. "GET UP." He instructed and she followed the order. "Who are you and what are you doing in my territory." He asked, his back fur and tail puffed up to look menacing. "I'm your daughter? W-what do you mean" She stammered hurt that he didn't even recognize her, then remembered. "Oh right um... Is there a type of bird that if you touches it, it makes you colorful? Cause I was hunting early for my naming assignment cause I found one and touched it and now I look like this but are my eyes the same? Yellow with a dark yellow pupil right? That's what my eye color has always been?" Color quickly explained to her father, but as the adrenaline began to ware off from the scare her side really started to hurt, and she looked down. The wound was deep and bleeding badly, and as she shifted her mysterious new wings she nearly collapsed from the sudden intense pain she felt as she tried to move her wing up. "Oh it is you, did you catch anything? And don't cry about the wound it's not even bad." Her father said curtly and starting heading into the den. Color looked at him with disbelief about what he just said but ignored it, he must just be trying not to show he was actually worried and scare her about how bad it actually was. "I caught the bird's color? So I named myself Color." Color exclaimed excited again. Her father stopped mid step and turned around. "No you can't have that name me and your mother have to choose." He stated.

"But I like that name so why not?" Color asked, taking a challenging step up to him. He stared at her for a long while before continuing without answering. "Since your not gonna say anything im taking it as a yes!" She smiled at her victory and turned around to lick the gash, it actually wasn't as deep as she thought but it was very painful and she stopped once she started licking because of the pain it caused her. Wanting to check her new wing she bounded into the forest after checking nobody was watching by flicking her head around. Once concealed by plants and trees she stretched out the wing, it hurt very badly when she did so but she did it anyway and she found that the skin and fur of the end of her wing had been ripped off. Cringing she tucked her wing back into place unsure about what to do she trot back into the yellow clearing and lay down on the opposite side of her soon-to-be scar.

Her mother burst from the trees and saw her on the ground and growled. Color startled and whined softly to herself. 'Here we go again.' But before she could do anything to the "intruder" Color's father left the den and saw the scene unfolding. "Wait, this is our daughter, she named herself Color now, if you don't believe me see her eyes? She just found some bird that was rainbow or somethin' and touched it and now she's colorful I guess." Her father monotoned while simplifying her story, her mother glared at her eyes and sighed before turning to her mate. "Well shall we go find the pack now?" Her mother asked. "Whats a pack? and whats the pack?" Color asked before her father could respond. "It's a group of cats like us who work together and were going to go there right now." He answered both cats before turning and sniffing the air and setting off in one direction. Color pushed herself up and ran for a short burst to catch up to her father and mother who had followed him. She bounded excitedly to meet new animals maybe one had Color like her! And maybe one was different in a secret way like her! She thought of all the possibility's until her father snapped at her to quit bouncing around. And from then on Color contained her excitement in unknown fear of being snapped on again. The trek to wherever they were going was taking them through the opposite side of the forest to where the rainbow bird was and Color had not explored here but she was so curious too see other parts of her species!
