Greetings reader,

Firstly, I would like to thank you for visiting my work. I sincerely hope you will enjoy it. Please, do let me know your thoughts. This is an ISEKAI story crossposted over from SufficientVelocity. Updates will be erratic, I promise nothing.

PS.: I swear that my other stories are not dead yet.

Prologue

Shade Academy is a dump. Do not get me wrong, the entire kingdom of Vacuo is a disappointment and affront to any proper state. There is no central government, working, and law enforcement is practically non-existent. Absence of those has a few perks, that benefit must be mentioned. Like total lack of oversight over companies which meant no regulations and taxes or for someone who practically fell from heaven over a year ago and had no viable form of identification to enter the most prestigious institution in entire kingdom solely on good word from one friend to another, we will return to that later. Every settlement is a practical equivalent of the ancient Greek polis, or in other words, a city-state. So why, oh, why, am I staring at my bed in Shade academy dormitory right now?

Well, that is a somewhat long story. In this world, it began almost two years ago near a run-of-the-mill settlement called Harvest. Located on the edge of the Great Desert in the hearth of which laid oasis with the city of Vacuo itself, it was unassuming for most travellers that came near it. It's only two acts of importance were the fertility of surrounding savannahs and a higher concentration of iron ore in a nearby mountain range. As can be guessed, Harvest got its name from the fact that it was one of the larger producers of grain and assorted food-stuff for Vacuo, not the largest but neither the smallest supplier.

In the end, Harvest proved itself to be a reasonably good place to live. A fact supported by its population of nearly five thousand inhabitants. Large settlement by remnant standards, yet only a village by the classification of my country. For some time, it has enjoyed relative obscurity, but times change and soon it would be at the centre of the new world. If I do say so myself and so far as I can tell it is shaping up nicely to do so.

Why? You could ask. It is simple. Settlements in Remnant prospered thanks to their ability to defend themselves and the presence of abundant Dust veins to be mined. While Harvest had reasonable defences, it had diddly-squat of Dust. In other words, perhaps another universe it would prosper because that distant world turned around a different fuel and Harvest with its ore reserves could prove to be a centre of industry. It wouldn't be the Ruhr valley any day soon, but it could manage, and it will manage.

Because soon, the world of Remnant will crumble and be remade with teachings of a faraway planet. And the Grimm? The Grimm will learn grammar because in their nightmares they will repeat one world in all possible declensions.

Lessons of Terra are coming. And they will hurt, mostly.
