Hello everyone!

Welcome to my new version of Don't! I hope you guys like it! It takes place just after season 1.

Chapter 1
Hinata woke up when he heard Natsu crying. He looked at his alarm clock on his desk, 4:40 AM. Too early to begin with the day, but too late to go back to sleep. Well he had to go comfort Natsu first anyway.
He rolled out of bed and shivered when his bare feet touched the cold floor. Hinata hated the night. Everything was gloomy and cold. It was scary how similar it was to Bakeyama.
He tiptoed out of his room towards Natsu's. Since his mother moved out of the house (two weeks ago), Hinata got a lot of broken nights.

Natsu had started to get nightmares and as a big brother, it was his job to comfort her. Hinata knew that the broken nights were starting to catch up to him. It was harder to wake up for his morning run, he started to fall a sleep during school more and more and worst of all, he knew he wasn't doing a hundred percent at practice. He tried to hide it as much as posible. No one on his team knew his mother was sick.

Why? Because at junior school he was always the special one, Hinata was little, Hinata played volleyball with no team and his mom was sick at home. It made everyone pity him.

He didn't want pity. He wanted to show his strengt. Hinata wanted to be as cool as the little giant.

That meant he had to hide the situation. Not that he was very good at it. Hinata had always been terrible at lying. He was pretty sure that the third years were starting to suspect something, maybe Takeda to. Bakeyama had only noticed that Hinata was slacking of at practice, but he was sure that that idiot was only thinking about volleyball.

"Natsu, it's me. Are you okay?" Hinata opened the door and walked inside his little sisters room. Her night light was giving just enough light for Hinata to see his sister rolled up in bed. Her blanket covering her from head to too. She was still crying.
Hinata sat down next to her and put his arm on the place where he thought her shoulder was.

"Hey Natsu, it's me, your awesome big brother. Can you come out of your little shell?" He whispered. It took a few seconds, but it worked. Natsu softly put her head out of the blanket.

"Shojo?"…I am scared." She had stopped crying.

"What are you afraid of?" He said, while stroking her shoulder to calm her down.

"That mom won't return." Hinata had to hold in a sign. Natsu had always been scared of the same thing. The death of their mother, although he wasn't sure his sister really understood what death meant. To be honest, it scared Hinata too, he thought of it almost every second. He couldn't show it though

"She promised Natsu, she promised she would get better. Mom wouldn't leave us. We just need to be strong for a while." He said. A part of him tried to believe that that was the truth. That she would come back, but he saw how she got more weak every time they visited, he saw how pale her skin was, how frail her once beautiful thick hair was and how much weight she had lost. Every time Natsu and he came to the hospital she tried to put up a smile, her eyes always started so sparkle a bit when she saw them, but Hinata saw sadness behind it.

Because even though her kids would visit as much as posible, her husband – Hinata's dad – would never bother to come. Since the moment she had been admitted in the hospital he had showed up only once. It was to bring a few of her things, and he only stayed for like ten minutes.

Hinata didn't want to blame him. He knew how hard his dad was taking the sickness of his mother. Since the moment she heard she had cancer, five years age, his father had changed. Hinata had good memories of him, like playing volleybal together or going fishing. Once in a while his dad would take him and Natsu out camping for a few days. That was all in the past now.

His mothers sickness had changed his dad, but in the beginning his dad tried to be there for his family. Everything changed a half a year ago, when the firm his dad worked for went bankrupt, and he got unemployed. To be able to make some money his dad had to get a job he really hated at some local store. Hinata didn't really know how to explain the change in his dad, but it was like he was gloomy all the time and didn't really care about him or Natsu.

Then his mother got so sick that she had to be admitted to the hospital and that seemed to push his dad over the edge. He started drinking. His dad was really scary when he drank. He had never been violent, but the words he yelled at Him were hurtfull and scary. His dad had started to get angry at the most little of things.

So at once, Hinata had lost not only his mother, but also his father. Natsu was to little to understand what was happening, so Hinata had to take care of her. It sucked, but he was sure that one day it would all turn out alright. His dad would find another job, one that he would enjoy. His mom would get better and come home.

They would be able to do normal-family stuff, like fishing and camping and laughing together. Maybe they could all go watch him playing volleyball match!
Volleyball was the only place where nothing had changed yet. It was Hinata's safe space. It felt so good to spike the ball Kageyama tossed towards him like woooosh and he would hit it like guaaaaa. He liked to energy of the team, Nishonoya's and Tanaka's stupid jokes, Yachi's cheering on the side, the feeling of the ball in his hand.

Hinata was sure that as long he could play volleyball everything would be alright.

-Haikyuu-

Kageyama was stretching, alone. Normally Hinata would be there with him, but that idiot wasn't here. Hinata was or to late or he was skipping practice. Two things Hinata had never done before.

That idiot.

How more and more Kageyama was thinking about the fact that Hinata wasn't there, how more annoyed he got. It was just two weeks ago that they had lost against Ahoba Josai. The feeling of defeat was still fresh in their minds. They all needed to be better, quicker, stronger. They needed to practice, so that they would never have to feel this horrible feeling again.

And when Kageyama said that they all needed training, he meant that Hinata needed to show up to practice, so that that idiot could get better at receiving and serving and playing volleyball overall.

Apparently he wasn't the only one who noticed Hinata's absence, Daichi walked towards him.

"Kageyama do you might know where Hinata is? Daichi asked with his usual stern voice. The captain didn't like it when someone was late without giving a notice beforehand. Hinata better came quick, otherwise Daichi might kill him.

"Why should I know", Kageyama said annoyed. After he said that though, the door of the gym openend and Hinata jumped in. The idiot was all red and was clearly trying to catch his breath, he had probably ran faster than normal.

"Well I guess I'll just ask it himself," Daichi turned around to Hinata, who jumped up at the captains stern face.
"Captain, I am sorry I'm late!" Hinata made a quick bow. Daichi held up his hands as a gesture that it was okay, but his face was still as stern as before.

"Don't worry. Why were you late?"

"Well, uhm, I had to bring my little sister to school, I really am sorry!" Hinata made another bow.

Since when did that idiot brought his little sister to school, wasn't that something what parents had to do?

But Daichi seemed to find it a good reason to be late, cause his face seemed to relax. "I understand, just next time give a notice if you come late, alright?"

"Of course captain!" Daichi nodded towards Hinata and then turned towards the rest of the team.

"Okay guys, lets all warm up. Let's run 10 laps! After that we will do some spike and receive practice!" Daichi yelled while clapping in his hands.

It was like something clicked in Hinata's brain. His eyes locked into Kageyama's. Before he knew what was going on they both started sprinting over the court. Hinata was as fast as always, but not to fast for Kageyama to keep up. Like hell he would lose to an idiot who had just arrived too late for practice.

But after one lap, where they both had passed the rest off the team almost twice — out of annoyance of Daichi, who tried telling them to calm down (something that they both had not heard or listened to at all though) — Hinata was starting to slow down. He was starting to get out of breath. Something what was unusual for Hinata. He never ran out of energy. Kageyama was almost 99 precent sure that Hinata had some form of ADHD, cause sometimes it was scary how much energy he had.
But now the idiot seemed to get out of breath. A part of Kageyama was ready to up his running tempo a bit, with the way it was going, he could definitely win from Hinata.

Kageyama didn't do that though. He was unsure why, but he felt like something was not okay with Hinata. So instead of speeding up, Kageyama started to slow down a bit. Not too much, Kageyama might not take advantage of Hinata's sudden loss of energy, but that didn't mean he was gonna let the idiot get another win, no never.

Hinata seemed to be able to keep this tempo up for the rest off the laps. However, he really needed to catch his breath after only the warm-up.
Kageyama tried not to think of it too much. It was Hinata, he was an idiot, he probably had been awake all night thinking about something stupid. Well, to be honest, if there was something that kept Hinata awake all night it was probably volleyball, and volleyball wasn't stupid. But Hinata was still stupid for thinking about it all the time.

Yeah, that was the conclusion that Kageyama drew. Hinata was an idiot and that was all there was to it.

-Haikyuu-

Hinata dragged himself towards practice. It hurt to say it out lout, but he was just drop dead tired. He thought he could handle the situation well, but the broken nights were getting trough to him. Beside that, he had so much more chores to do now his mom was in the hospital and his dad was not really doing anything besides laying on the couch and drinking and watching football or baseball (never volleyball to Hinata's annoyance).

Hinata had to make sure that the house was clean for if his mother would come home and Natsu needed good food and clean clothes and a clean bed and a big brother's shoulder she could cry on. Oh and some help for her homework, which sucked, 'cause Hinata wasn't good at homework. It didn't matter what subject, he just overall sucked at doing homework.

And if Hinata was home, he would get bossed around by his father. He always needed something, or it was another cold beer, or it was food or it was some other things of the thousands demands that his father had. Hinata quietly did what was asked from him. Otherwise, he would just get yelled at. If he was able to support his dad as much as possible, maybe his dad could get out of this gloomy state that he was in right now.

So that was what Hinata did, he supported his father as much as he could, he tried to make his fathers life as easy as possible, 'cause then everything would get better. Hinata was sure.

Most of the time Hinata didn't mind all the extra things that had suddenly fallen on his shoulder, but now it was starting to effect his volleyball. Besides the fact that he had come a bit late, Hinata didn't have the energy to keep up with Kageyama's running. He was so pathetic that Kageyama had to slow down his pace.
Kageyama never slowed down, he always gave everything he got in everything he did regarding volleyball. Hinata was so weak, that Kageyama pitied him. Ughh, it was so irritating.

With a whole new feeling of determination — he was not going to show his weakness to Kageyama ever again, like in forever — Hinata walked towards the clubroom and when he opened the door his whole frustational mood disappeared like snow under the sun.

Not everyone was there yet, but Nishinoya and Tanaka were in the corner giggling like usual over some magazine and Suga, Daichi and Asahi were chit-chatting and Tsukishima was — looking annoyed as always — sitting in another corner with his headphone on and Hinata just felt at home.

"Excuse me." He yelled while jumping in, all the energy returning.

Everyone — except for that stupid Tsukishima — looked up with a smile and he was immediately greeted by most of them.

"Ohh, hello Hinata-kun, good to see you." Suga said, before the third years returned tot here conversation.

"Shoyo!" Nishinoya yelled. "Ready for practice, I feel like I am gonna be awesome today."

"Yeah, and I'll definatly be super awesome!" Tanaka yelled.

Nishinoya and Tanaka both looked at each other and gave other a fist bump. "Let's be awesome together, Ryuu. Hahahah!" Tanaka wanted to yell something back, but was stopped by a stern looking Daichi.

"Stop yelling, guys. You sound like idiots"

Before anyone could say anything Hinata just started to giggle. He couldn't help but laugh at Nishinoya's and Tanaka's faces after being scolded by Daichi. All the eyes - except for Tsukkishima's, who was still looking at his phone while listening to music, probably trying to ignore them all – turned towards Hinata.

His head turned all red, but he couldn't help it. It was like a giggle-attack. Hinata doubled over and grabbed his stomac while laughing out loud. Although everyone was surprised at how funny Hinata seemed to find this very common situation, his giggling was very infectious and soon even Daichi couldn't help but smile at him.

And while giggling and laughing out lout, the only thing that Hinata could think was how he had the most awesome senpais in the world. As long as he could play volleyball with them, he would be safe.

-Haikyuu-

Hinata tiptoed trough the house. It was almost late, almost 10 o 'clock. The only reason he had stayed away this long, was because he knew that Natsu had a sleepover at a friend. He hoped that his dad was sleeping already. Hinata felt like he could pass out any second.

After the normal practice, the team had decided to go eat at Nishinoya's house, since both his parents were away for a work trip. After that Hinata, Nishinoya, Tanaka and Ennoshita held a game-compatition with Nishinoya's playstation, while the rest had started to do some card-game. In the end Ennoshite destroyed them and won forever glory as his price. It was all so fun that Hinata had just completely forgot the time. It was nice.

"Shoyo?" Hinata froze. His dads had called out to him from the living room. It sounded pissed and drunk. Hinata sighed. He could do this, whatever his dad needed from him, Hinata could do it. He needed to support his father, be strong for him.

"I am here dad." He said while walking towards him. His dad was half-sitting / half-laying in his big chair. Several empty beer cans surrounding him.

"Where have you been Shoyo?" It was clear that his dad had a hard time focussing. He tried to look Hinata in the eye, but it wasn't really succesfull.

"I was with my volleyball team. I am sorry I am so late. I just got caught up I guess. But I had a fun time! We are doing very well at training, everyone is doing their best! Maybe next time you can come watch?" He said hopefully.

"Just stop talking already!" His father hit the sidetable with his fist.

Hinata tried to ignore the tears pricking in his eyes. It wasn't the first time that his dad would yell at him like that, he should be used to it by now. Besides that his dad had all the right to be yelling at him. Hinata knew he was going trough a rough time and he still had decided to have fun and be with his team, instead off going home and looking after his father.

But Hinata couldn't help remember the time that his dad would smile and listen with care whenever Hinata would talk about volleyball.

"You are just an little brat. Did you know that I was worried about you." Hinata's father stood up, or more, he tried to stand up, but he was to out of it to find the strength and balanse to keep standing.

Hinata couldn't watch this and walked towards him with one hand straight forward to help him However, the moment Hinata's hands touched his fathers arm — only to keep him steady — Hinata's father slapped him in the face and Hinata fell down.

It went all so fast, Hinata could barely understand what was happening. His cheek burned, he wasn't sure, but he thought he tasted a bit of blood in his mouth.
His father had just slapped him. Not just a soft tap in his face. No, a hard slap in his face. His right ear was ringing, tears were slowly dripping on the ground. His father had just slapped him.

How bad his dads mood was, he had never in his whole life been physically violent towards him or Natsu. Never.

His dad seemed to drunk to notice the impact of his actions towards his son. He had sat down again and tried to take another sip of a beer can. When it turned out to be empty, he threw it in the corner out of frustration.

"Just leave me alone." Was all his dad said, before closing his eyes.

Hinata had to take a couple of minutes before he was able to stand up. He felt like a zombie while doing his normal nighttime routine. He tried to look in his mouth in the bathroom mirror, but nothing seemed wrong. He had already swallowed the little amount of blood. Physically the slap didn't hurt him anymore.

And Hinata probably deserved it right? His dad would not hurt him if Hinata had done nothing to provoke him. It was because Hinata was home so late. Yeah, it all made sense.

But then why couldn't he stop with crying?

-Haikyuu-

So that was the first chapter. I totally forgot how scary it is to actually put your own work on the internet. I hoped that being a few years older would make all the insecurities go away, but I guess that is not how it works.

I am sorry for all the spelling / grammar mistakes that undoubtly will be in there somewhere!

But I hope you guys like it! If you have feedback or something else, don't be afraid to leave a comment!
