Hendriks' POV
A few days in Beacon told Hendriks enough on why this school was considered the best Huntsman school. The teacher where all fairly unique. Firstly there was Professor Port, a big man with an even bigger moustache. The man teached all about the creatures of Grimm, albeit it was in a strange way. Instead of a textbook like normal lessons Port used his own experience as a huntsman to teach. His stories where a bit 'eccentric' to say the least, somewhere sounded so great that it sounded more like a myth than an actual story.
Second there was Doctor Oobleck, he teached History. He is a very hyperactive man, even more than Nina. This man was very Passionate about his subject. Hendriks himself took quite the liking to this teacher, seeing as he was always truthful about his subject and even noted the darker parts of Remnants history.
Seeing as Hendriks and his friends where raised in remote villages, they never were thought history over the kingdoms, so this was quite insightful.
And lastly was Professor Goodwitch, the combat instructor and the class they were attending right now. The teacher was very strict and uptight, but she did know what she thought and how she thought it.
In previous lessons none of team HNTR were asked to participate in a student vs student battle. These battles where until the Aura of one of the participants was depleted.
Right now Goodwitch was asking 2 students to participate in such Duel
"Terrance Ikari and Yang Xiao Long, please step forward and show us how you each use your own style of combat."
Terrance stood up with an excited grin just like Yang did. They were already in their combat outfit, ready to fight, but first Goodwitch asked something to Terrance.
"Mister Ikari, don't you need your weapon?" she asked in a stern but curious voice.
"No ma'am, this makes things as bit more fair, and let's not forget, more fun" Terrance answered in as savage like voice as he put his Helmet on.
Glynda got shivers up her spine from the tone of voice Terrance had. "very well, you may start the match" Glynda said as she walked away from what would soon become a debris field.
Yang quickly closed the distance between her and Terrance and tried to get a few hits in.
Every time Yang tried to punch Terrance, he blocked them with a punch from himself. The aftereffects of these punches could be seen on both of their Aura's.
Yang's Aura took a few its, while Terrance's Aura was still unmoved.
Terrance grinned under his mask; this was a fight he wanted to enjoy to the fullest.
"MORE, MORE, COME AT ME AT YOUR BEST!" Terrance roared in an almost demonic voice.
While the rest of the Audience was freaked out by the voice that came out of the Dark green Armour of Terrance, Hendriks just shook his head.
The big green muscle head always lost himself in combat and always gave it his all. That wouldn't be a problem when it was a battle to the death, but this was just a spar. If Terrance was going to go overboard, it could cause great problems.
As Terrance finished his roar of madness, he returned to his combat stance with his fists up. Yang tried to find an opening in his defence but couldn't find any, and even if she did, his armour would almost nullify the damage she would inflict.
Terrance made a huge leap in Yang's Direction; he readied his fist preparing for a huge hit. Yang barely dodged his blow by a hairs length. When Terrance's fist hit the ground a huge crater came into being along with an aftershock.
"C'mon little dragon, give me all you've got, otherwise it wouldn't be fun, now would it!" Terrance taunted with a savage like voice.
Yang decided to amp it up and immediately propelled herself forward with a shotgun blast. Terrance gave a maniacal smile under his helmet after successfully provoking her. 'Now that's more like it!' Terrance thought.
Terrance responded in kind by activating his Semblance "Ancient awakening: Green Devourer"
What happened next no one expected. An immense pressure came into being. The origin of this pressure was no one other than Terrance. His armour changed to a darker shade of green, the Muscle parts became brighter and Terrance's pupils became blood red. Suffice to say, it looked more intimidating than a Goliath Grimm.
Terrance once again launched himself forward to Yang, who was still mid-air. A massive crater appeared from where he jumped from. Ones they reached each other they traded a blow; the match was decided. Yang was blown out of the ring with the power of a Guardian. Another huge crater came into being when Yang hit the wall of the arena.
Terrance himself barely took any damage while Yang was completely knocked out with practically a single hit.
Many did not expect this outcome, no one actually. No one except Kurohomura Hendriks. The man smiled at his comrade's display of brute strength. He was partly surprised that he did hold back. Normally Terrance would just outright kill his opponent. So Hendriks was proud of seeing that Terrance knew how important it was to keep their cover up for their assignment.
"This is the end of the match, Terrance Ikari wins by ring-out." Goodwitch announced with a slightly shocked tone. Never ones in her career as a teacher did she whiteness a match that was over in practically one hit. This made her think about the potential power all of team HNTR had.
Right after the match ended the pressure that Terrance emitted disappeared. His armour became its regular shade of green and his pupils turned to black ones more. His savage grin still remained on his face, proud that he was able to beat an opponent in their own field of expertise.
"Normally a match takes way longer than this, but seeing as there is still time remaining, we shall have another match." Goodwitch announced.
This made some students groan, this included Nina, who had hoped that they were done with this period if the match was finished. Goodwitch noticed this and decided to act upon it.
"Miss Dokuyako, seeing as you lac the interest in this class, why don't you participate in it." Goodwitch said in a strict voice.
This made Nina once again groan in annoyance, but she responded in her usual upbeat voice " YYYYYYYYES MA'AM" Nina exaggeratedly reacted to Goodwitch along with as salute.
This made Goodwitch grown with irritation "Get your armour while I pick your opponent." She said to Nina. Goodwitch thought it would be a good idea to surprise Nina with her opponent. But she also knew what kind of armour she wore while the Initiation was going on. So Goodwitch gave her some extra time to put it on.
"Oki-Doki, Teach." Nina once again answered in an upbeat voice.
As Nina went to get her armour, Goodwitch assigned someone to be Nina's opponent. "Miss Belladonna, you shall be Miss Dokuyako's opponent. Please ready your combat gear."
This made Blake Flinch a bit. She and Nina where almost polar opposites. While Blake was sheltered about what she did, Nina on the other hand was as hyperactive as one could be. She did not look forward to seeing how this trait would be translated into her combat style.
*small time skip*
As Blake went to fetch her combat gear she found Nina, now wearing her armour, returning to the class. As they crossed paths Nina whispered something to her "Are you ready to dance, Little kitty? Because I know I am."
This made Blake turn around and look back at her, but she was already gone in a blink of an eye. She couldn't possibly know about her secret, could she?
As Nina arrived back at the class, to say she got stared at was an understatement. Most of the male populace got nosebleeds. Who could blame them, Nina's armour left very little to the imagination. Nina found the stares very annoying, so she decided to shut them up "If ya lechers wanna stare ya better pay up, One pair of eyeballs every second of staring!" Nina said with a loud voice. This made all the boys quickly avert their eyes.
Soon also Blake returned with her combat gear. Soon Nina and Blake stood across from each other, ready to combat against one another.
Nina holds her fans in their closed forms, this made them excellent piercing weapons.
Blake prepared her weapon, ready for anything Nina might throw at her
Goodwitch gave a few words on the rules for this match "The same rules as previous apply with this match, but please, try not to utterly destroy the arena like Mister Ikari did." The crater bit she said with a hidden annoyance. This made the man who made said craters snicker with a huge grin on his face. "You may begin the match." Goodwitch announced.
As soon as this was said Nina rushed forward, fans still folded. She attempted to make a quick pierce attack to push Blake on the defensive. Blake blocked the first fan, but she didn't see the second one coming. The second fan struck her right in the stomach. Blake skidded over the floor, she tried desperately to recover, but Nina was already approaching her. Her fans where no longer closed and where hold in a reverse grip. In almost a blink of an eye Nina reached Blake ones more. Nina slashed in rapid combos, each fan going in a opposite direction to maximise damage and minimize to possibility of getting blocked. Blake couldn't get a single hit in.
Blake pushed the trigger of the pistol part of her weapon to force Nina to retreat a bit. Nina did back off from the first bullet, but she parried the second a third bullet with her fans.
Now it was Blake's turn to start an offensive. She stated by making multiple clones of herself to confuse Nina, after that they all rushed Nina. Blake hoped Nina would be at least a bit intimidated, but alas. Nina wasn't even confused.
Nina prepared her fans for a counterattack. She spun around with her fans as soon as the shadow clones came within range of her. As soon as this happened all clones disappeared.
Nina was getting a tad bit irritated by Blake's fighting style, so she decided to amp it up by using her Semblance. If she finished this quickly then maybe Hendriks would get a turn. This thought made her giggle a bit, she was already imagining Hendriks' face if he was chosen for the next fight.
Just like Terrance she spoke a few words: "Ancient Awakening: Black shadow.
Her appearance and her armour changed. Her Armour covered more of her body, her limbs didn't have a single opening and her upper and lower half also became more armoured and only her belly was still visible. She also sprouted some red cat like ears with black fur covering them. Her eyes were covered in a fluorescent red mascara making it look like her eyes glowed. Her armour completely changed pigment from a mix from grey it turned to completely black.
Nina changed her plans of attack and rushed with twice the speed from before in Blake's direction. Once she reached her, she trusted her folded fans straight in Blake's shoulders. Blake was pushed back by this an was barely holding her balance. Nina took this opportunity to start once again a flurry of attacks draining Blake's Aura rapidly. Blake tried to block her attacks, but seeing as the fans ones again went in opposite directions; the best she could do was block one. While this prevent some damage, it wasn't enough to slow Nina down.
Each slash came with a small cut. This was the cause of Nina's Semblance. Her Semblance allowed her to bypass Aura and inflict damage, but this only worked when the wounds where small. This was one of the reasons she used fans. The wounds generated by these weapons were small enough to bypass Aura and seeing as they were very light they could easily make more wounds in a small opening than a weapon as large as Terrance's GreatSword.
This was Nina's fighting style, to engage an opponent as fast as possible and make as much of these small wounds to slow them down. It may not see it with your eyes, but if you looked carefully you could see that Blake was covered in dozens of tiny cuts. These tiny cuts where mostly found near the joints. The reason for this is that every time Blake would move her joints a tiny amount of blood would drop out. If it was only this wouldn't be as big of a deal, but seeing that Nina already placed a lot of cuts in her she would be rapidly exhausted due to blood loss.
Nina stopped the onslaught of her attacks and took a few steps back. Blake tried once again for a counterattack. She only managed to take a single step before she stopped. Her wounds dragged her down too much. "Hey hey hey hey!" Nina tried to gain Blakes attention.
Blake looked up at Nina, as if saying "Just say what you want." And Nina did just that.
"Why don't you just forfeit? I really don't want to be held responsible for this if you pass out due to Blood loss or possibly even die because of it." Nina said this in her usual upbeat voice. Blake decided to comply, after all, the odds weren't in her favour. Not at all.
Blake just looked at Goodwitch and simply said "I forfeit." She said this with barley any energy left.
Goodwitch confirmed this and announced the obvious winner of this match "Blake Belladonna forfeits, Nina Dokuyako wins this match."
This made Hendriks once again smile. This victory shows that Nina hadn't been slacking off. Nina was always the kind of person to laze around when she's got free time. This sadly also included their sparring sessions when they where training for beacon. Nina was always considered the weak link. It isn't that she wasn't strong, but more that she is an unpredictable chaos. This flaw made it incredibly hard to make any sort of plan seeing as she always just went her own way. But time Nina showed that she already had this fight planned out.
Goodwitch looked at the time, she noticed they had still room for one more match. "Seeing as this match ended just as quickly as the previous match we still have time for one more."
This peaked Hendriks' interest, one more match, one more opportunity to observe a key piece in the game of the Guardians. He listened intently to Goodwitch to listen who where going to be the last two to brawl.
Goodwitch was amazed by the performance of the members of team HNTR. So she decided to have a little fun and see how one of them would face the one with the most fighting experience of this class. "Kurohomura Hendriks and Pyrrha Nikos, please step forward and gather you equipment. You two shall face each other in today's last match." She announced with a curious smile.
Hendriks didn't think he would get to fight today. But he didn't complain, on the contrary, he always did enjoy a good fight. He was also very curious how Pyrrha would fair against him. She was after all the one of their batch with the most fighting experience. It made him wonder if he would get serious, it has been a good while since he fought seriously, so he was curious on how far Pyrrha would push him.
*small Time skip*
When Hendriks and Pyrrha returned in their combat outfit Goodwitch once again noticed that the member of team HNTR didn't seem to have a weapon on him.
"I take it you'll fight with your bare hands just like your teammate mister Hendriks?" Goodwitch asked Hendriks
"No Ma'am, I simply prefer to keep my Blade strictly for Combat against Grimm. For situations as these I have just the tool to use." Hendriks said while carefully preparing his weapon. He had it hidden in the shoulder-pieces of his armour. In the left one he revealed a shield with the same scaly design as his armour. The top of this shield seemed to have tree horns. One on both sides of the outer part of the shied and one in the middle.
The second thing he revealed was a small short sword. What was unique for this short sword is that it was incredibly hot that it glowed a bright orange with the edges a bright yellow.
This equipment was used by Hendriks when he would battle against Humanoid opponents in an enclosed space. His longsword was too big to make it work in a small enclosed space such as an arena, so he always packed this short sword and shield as a back-up.
Many where astonished by his seemingly all organic weaponry. How where these weapons created? From what where they created? when where they created? Questions like these where swarming the onlookers. None have seen a weapon like this, so they were all curious.
Goodwitch saw that both combatants where ready so she decided to start the match "You may start the match, may the best Huntsman in training win." Goodwitch announced, effectively starting the match.
AN: MWAHAHAHAHAHA cliff-hanger time. As you can see I'm back with another update. Sorry it took so long but I had other shit to do. Some of it was related to school, some of it wasn't. Now that it's summer break I might be able to update more but no promises.
As you all can see I gave my OCs their Semblances. My idea was to have everyone with their eyes linked to one of the Guardians have the same Semblance but with a twist. I came up with the concept of Ancient Awakening when I was watching a video about Fate's magical girls spin-off about class cards. So I thought "hey that sound pretty cool, let's see if I can use this in my story". The idea of Ancient Awakening is that the soul of the user gets linked to the soul of a Guardian. These Awakenings are mostly related to their relations to the Guardians. Lets take for example Terrance. His relations to the Guardians are his Eyes of the Devil Jho, so he is able to link up Devil Jho. These Awakenings aren't limited to one guardian so Terrance also would be able to link up with Savage Devil Jho. But the more powerful the monster is the harder Awakening is to control as you are essentially mixing your soul with a creature that is basically almost a god. The stronger the person is the easier it is to control their Awakened forms. These Awakenings also change the appearance of the users as demonstrated by Nina and Terrance. These may be small changes as the glowing muscle parts of Terrance's armour and Nina's mascara, but they can also be more obvious changes like Nina sprouting her ears. Please let me hear what you think of this concept.
For the rest of this AN I'm just gonna introduce myself since I believe it is good to build up trust with your audience.
I'm keeping my name hidden since that's a bit to personal in my opinion. So you guys can call me Vajer. I'm a Dutch 17-year-old male. I live with my parents and along with my younger brother. As of the moment I'm in (what I think is) my country's equivalent of college studying for a degree in chemistry ( I think that's how you say it, in my language its Diploma so translate if you want since I'm too Lazy to do it ;-;). I'm a huge Weeb with over 80 anime's watched in 2 years' time, . My favourites if you are curious are Attack on Titan, Code Geass and the Fate series. I also enjoy my manga and Light Novels. My favourites are once again Attack on Titan for Manga and my favourite LN is Classroom of the elite. I enjoy the history of warfare with my preference in tanks and planes around the second world war. I love animals in general, but my preference goes to what most people consider creepy (Reptiles, amphibians and Invertebrates). I myself even just started out keeping ants. I also enjoy my Games. My preference goes mostly to military Simulation Games like Post Scriptum and Squad, but I also enjoy RTS games like Company of heroes. A few of my absolute favourite games are Titanfall 2 (MY GOD do I enjoy it) and of course MHW (Nothing beats hitting a monster with its own ripped off limb XD). I also really enjoy War Thunder seeing as it's based of real-life Vehicles. I also like to play the Piano, I'm not very good at it but I started lessons in hope to better myself. A few of my favourite pieces I learned are Krone from the series Guilty Crown and Grand Escape from the movie Weathering with you. If you have questions about me feel free to ask, but please do it in a PM. That's all. Vajer signing off.
