"Hands in the air!" I pretended not to hear the man behind me over my music. "Hey, you got a death wish or something?" He grabbed me by the shoulder and spun me around, and I made an act of looking surprised as he pointed to his ears, obviously telling me to take off my headphones.
"Yes?" I asked as I actually took off the headphones.
"I said, put your hands in the air!" I tilted my head to the side, attempting to maximize my cuteness to take him off guard.
"Are you robbing me?" He lifted his gun back to my face.
"Yes!"
"Ohhh." Before I could kick him as I planned we were interrupted by a voice clearing behind him. He turned around and I caught a glimpse of the girl. She was shorter than me, though not by much, and her eyes, which I could only see because they were glowing, were the same shade of silver as mine.
"It's not very nice to rob people." She took her hood down, allowing us to see her pale skin and dark red hair, as well as the red tipped black wolf ears and the fact that we had the same facial structure.
"And why should I care what a filthy faunus like you thinks? In fact, give me your money as well." The girl was shaking, and it took me a second to realize that she was laughing.
"You are far too dimwitted to be anything more than a grunt, where's the mastermind of this operation." He yelled in anger and swung his arm around to backhand her with the pistol, and I moved without thinking. I kicked him in the back just as she kicked him in the chest. There was a sickening crack as his spine snapped.
"Go see what's keeping him so long." The order came from the front of the store. Two grunts began to make their way to the back where we were.
"I'll take the left, you take the right?" I nodded in agreement, and we moved in tandem as soon as they rounded the corner. The front windows shattered as we threw the men through them. My hood had fallen, now revealing my wolf ears that were identical to the other girls. A very flamboyant looking ginger looked at us before sighing.
"Well. Get them!" I deployed Crescent Rose, and looked to see what kind of weapon she had. She didn't have any.
"I can beat them without my weapon, no point in overkill." The remaining ten goons made it to us and the fight began. It took me roughly half a minute to defeat them, and I saw that she was wiping some blood off her knuckles. The ginger seemed shocked.
"Nothing that adorable should be able to be so violent." The girl smirked.
"It runs in the family."
"Anyway, Red, Black it was lovely meeting you but I'm afraid I must be off." He raised his cane and the bottom flipped up as a scope. He shot at us and I jumped to the side while the other girl simply swatted it into the air where it exploded. I turned to see the overly flamboyant ginger climbing the ladder on another building.
"You okay if we go after him?" I asked the old man who owned the store.
"Uh-hu." I ran to the building he climbed and jumped before firing Crescent Rose so I could use the recoil to reach the top of the building. The other girl was already there.
"Hey!" He stopped.
"Persistent." I wouldn't have heard him if not for my enhanced hearing. Suddenly a bullhead roared to life and the ginger jumped into it as it rose up. "End of the line brats!" He tossed a burn dut crystal and fired his cane at it. I raised my arms to protect myself, only for there to be no explosion.
"Oooo, this is shiny." The other girl had managed to grab the crystal out of the air and once more swat the explosive projectile away. At the same moment a blonde woman with a riding crop jumped onto the roof. As we all stood there the dust crystal turned grey and disintegrated. "Tasty too." The ginger ducked into the bullhead, and a moment later a woman in a red dress stepped up to the door. She waved her hand and a firetrap appeared underneath me. I jumped back to dodge it as the blonde created an ice storm. The bullhead got impaled, and I attempted to shoot the woman but she simply blocked my rounds as the bullhead flew off.
"Okay, I'm just going to go…" She trailed off as Goodwitch used her semblance to grab her.
"Oh no, you two are coming with me." I debated running, but dismissed the thought. There's no way I would have been able to escape her.
"Do you have any idea the damage you could have caused?"
"They started it!"
"Is it not our duty to apprehend criminals?" Goodwitch's eye twitched.
"You should have contacted the appropriate authorities!"
"And I'm sure the shop owner did just that, and even then by the time you got there he would have made off with all the dust. At least we managed to stop him from actually stealing anything, and he was identified." The twitching worsened.
"As it is, if it were up to me you would be sent home with a pat on the back," She must have seen the hope in my face and the surprise on the other girls. "And a slap on the wrist!" She slapped the table next to my hands with her riding crop, getting an involuntary yelp out of me. "However there is someone who wants to speak to you." On cue a man stepped through the door behind her.
"Ruby Rose, you have silver eyes." The girl started when she heard my name, drawing Professor Ozpin's, why was the headmaster of Beacon here?, attention to her. "And who might you be?"
"I-I'm Amber Rose." This was the first time the whole night I've seen her nervous. "I was looking for my family. Guess I succeeded." Both Goodwitch and Professor Ozpin made disbelieving noises.
"I think you should start at the beginning."
"Wait, are you Professor Ozpin?" He nodded as he sat down. "I have a note for you, from Mom." She reached in her pocket and pulled out a folded piece of paper. Professor Ozpin grabbed it and read it over, getting progressively more angry.
"While it's a miracle that she even survived long enough to deliver you, we had hoped that Summer was still alive somewhere. What about your adoptive family?"
"Lily and James were killed roughly a year after blood adopting me along with the man they named my godfather Sirius. I was raised by Lily's sister who hated anything she considered abnormal, so of course." She gestured to her ears.
"If this Sirius man was your godfather, why didn't he raise you?"
"He was framed for murdering James and Lily as well as fourteen other people. Sirius was executed in my third year going to their alma mater even though I had proof that he was innocent. I decided to leave and try to find what was left of my family after I found those letters in Lily's old luggage that was in her sister's attic after my fourth year at the school."
"So how old are you Amber?"
"Fifteen." Professor Ozpin sighed.
"I was planning on offering both Ruby and you places at my school. And while I'm sure the council will have plenty of problems with me for doing so, the offer still stands." I didn't even have to think about my answer.
"Yes, yes, a thousand times yes!" Amber was much more subdued.
"Sure, sounds fun." Professor Ozpin nodded.
"Glyda will call your father to pick you up. I'll need to keep Amber for a few seconds to fill out some paperwork." I was hesitant to leave my little sister after just finding out about her, but she gave me a reassuring smile.
"It's okay Ruby, I doubt that Professor Ozpin plans on doing anything bad." He smiled at her.
"It should only take about five minutes." I relented and left the room. I grabbed Crescent Rose and took a seat in the police station's lobby as Goodwitch went outside to call Dad. Almost exactly five minutes later Amber sat next to me.
"What did you need to fill out?"
"Just general information that would be in the system if I had been born here."
"How did Mom get away from that horde of grimm? And what's a blood adoption?" Amber looked around before speaking in a much quieter tone.
"Do you believe in magic?" I looked at her in disbelief, and her face fell.
"Of course I believe in magic." She brightened right up.
"Well someone opened some kind of portal and Mom fell into it. And a blood adoption is where a person or people use their blood in a magical ritual to adopt someone into their family. I used a ritual that Lily had created to open a portal as close to my remaining family as possible." I gave her a hug, and frowned as she tensed before relaxing. I felt something brush my leg, and looked down to see a black and red tail wagging.
"You have a tail!?" She pulled away and blushed before reaching and hugging it to her chest.
"Don't you?" I shook my head.
"Just the ears." She looked ready to cry. "It's okay, in fact I think it's adorable. I just didn't think that it was possible for a half faunus to have two traits." She nodded and sat down, still hugging her tail to her chest. I decided to fix things the only way I know how. "What kind of weapon do you have? Crescent Rose, that's my weapon, is a scythe and a High Caliber Sniper Rifle." She pushed her cloak back to reveal a hatchet sheathed on each hip. She also pulled a pair of fingerless gloves out of her pocket and put them on.
"I have Ignis and Glaceius," Ignis was the right hatchet with fiery designs etched into the blade, and Glaceius was the left hatchet which had snowflakes etched into the blade. "The gloves are to put more oomph into my punches when I use hand to hand. My boots are also steel toed."
"Your weapons aren't mechashift?" She shrugged.
"I was never really good at using guns, and it took me so many attempts to get them just right that I would have wasted a lot of material in the failed tries." The front door opened and Dad and Goodwitch entered the lobby.
"Ruby what did you do to end…" He trailed off when he saw Amber. Professor Ozpin chose that moment to enter the lobby.
"Tai-Yang, glad you could make it. If you would just follow me I'll explain everything."
"What…?" Professor Ozpin took him by the arm into the back of the police station while Goodwitch made her way over to us.
"As you are going to be moved ahead I suggest you study. The teachers at Beacon, myself included, will expect nothing but the best from two students who were moved ahead. Do you understand me?" We nodded hurriedly, and she smiled slightly. "As it is, good job on holding your own against Roman. You know, he went to Beacon, but dropped out in his third year. He was so promising as well." The last part wasn't meant for us, but we heard it anyway. Dad was led back into the room.
"Ruby, uh, Amber come on. I'm going to take you home." I grabbed Amber's hand when she balked and led her out to Dad's van. "I can't wait for you to meet Yang." I got in the backseat with her as Dad got in the driver's seat. "She's the best big sister in the world!" Amber leaned her head against my shoulder and we drove home in a comfortable silence.
A/N: I own nothing but part of the idea. Amber Rose is this version of female Harry.
