Hey, everyone.

I'm back with another one-shot FanFiction.

This one is special since it is my first-ever crossover.

Yes, I have been away for a long time, but don't worry, I am going to be paying a lot more attention to my other projects now. Before I get around to finishing them however, I wanted to write something else just so that I can get back into practice.

As you may have seen on my profile, I am a big fan of Rising of the Shield Hero and Doctor Who.

The Daleks, of course, are iconic, but for anyone who has not watched or heard of the former, I will just say this. A lot of people were screaming for the blood of two certain characters, who you will meet in this story, by the end of the first episode.

After watching a crossover video and a few of my favourite Doctor Who episodes, I decided to watch an episode of Rising of The Shield Hero, which featured both villainous characters at their worst. Sympathising with the protagonist, I said to myself "He should just exterminate them!"

At that moment, this story was born!

I have decided to write two versions of this story, one-short version and a long version. The first one is pretty much what I am sure we would all expect to happen upon summoning a Dalek. For those of you who want a much more elaborate, in-depth story, however, please check out Chapter 2.

Both versions are only one chapter long. It shouldn't come as a surprise given what the title character is – I mean come on seriously, how could it possibly be anything else!

Naturally, I will try to explain how the Dalek easily overcomes the limitations imposed by the Legendary Shield. References to the old and new series of Doctor Who will be made and spoilers are present for The Rising of The Shield Hero.

Stay safe everyone!

I hope that you all enjoy reading this story as much as I enjoyed writing it.

If you have not checked out any of my other projects yet, then please do so!

Short summary: - If you plan on summoning a hero from another dimension, especially when you intend to betray the said hero … don't summon the ultimate genocide machine.

Rating M: These stories are rated M for Mature, due to sexual references and cold-blooded murder.

Disclaimer: I do not own Rising of the Shield Hero or the Daleks. They, alongside any respective quotes and other references, belong to their respective owners. This is a FanFiction, written for entertainment purposes.

Glossary

He/him/his = The citizens of Melromarc, The King and the other heroes assuming that the Dalek is a human male.

It = How the Dalek refers to itself since Daleks do not distinguish one another by gender.

Rel/rels = how the Daleks measure time, equivalent to 1.2 Earth seconds.

A.N. - To avoid any confusion whilst reading this story, I have tried my best to find the correct terms for Dalek casing and weapons. When reading this FanFiction, the perspective alternates between the main protagonist and those of the other characters. Therefore, some of the descriptions are those made by the citizens of Melromarc who do not know the technical terms for the Daleks armour/weapons either. As such they are comparing what they see to what they know.

The Rising of The Shield Dalek - Short Story

"EXTERMINATE!"

(Sound of a Dalek gun firing)

THE EN-

JUST KIDDING!

The light generated by the summoning circle glowed a fluorescent blue. Shards from the sacred weapons rested at its epicentre. They began to sparkle.

This was the critical part!

The team of five mages stood in a line on the fringes of the sphere. Their sorcerer's robes flapped heavily in the magical breeze. The leaders hood had fallen back, but still, they endured it. They had been charged by their monarch, King Aultcray Melromarc with the most sacred of missions - summoning the Cardinal Heroes.

Normally, such a ritual only required two people. One to complete the ritual, the other to summon the hero. One hero for each nation. However, King Aultcray's instructions were explicit. The Cardinal Heroes, all four of them were to be summoned to Melromarc.

This order came with the backing of the highest authority outside of the King. The head of the church, Pope Balmus. They did not question it.

Hands held palm up, magic glowing from his fingers, the leader muttered incoherent words under his breath. The other's eyes concentrated on the gems at the epicentre, desperately trying to summon a hero. The spell drained at their energy, whilst sapping almost all of their mana & skill points. Finally, the holy weapon fragments began to illuminate.

The weapon pieces rose two feet off the ground in a multi-coloured square and started to spin. Smiling the witches and wizards poured their last remaining reserves of energy into the summoning circle. After what seemed like an eternity, the shards froze in the air, before forming a line from right to left.

First yellow … then blue … red … and finally, green.

To the mages delight, the first shard morphed and began to take shape. Then the second, then the third, and finally, the fourth one.

The Cardinal weapons appeared in all their majesty, which meant?

In a flash of white light, a teenage boy with short curly blonde hair appeared alongside the legendary bow. His name was Itsuki Kawasumi.

A second later, a slightly taller teenager with black hair materialised with a magnificent looking sword in his hand. This was Ren Amaki.

Moments afterwards, a tall man with a long blonde ponytail emerged clutching a fearsome-looking spear. Behold Motoyasu Kitamura.

However, the fourth hero did not appear straight away. For some reason, the witch in charge of the Shield Heroes summoning was having extreme difficulty summoning them. She concentrated hard, knitting her brows together so tightly tears began to pour from her eyes. Sweat rolled off her forehead, the poor woman's hand and arm began shivering harder than ever.

A few seconds later, her persistence paid off.

With a flicker of light, the fourth hero started to materialise. A strange cry filled the room and the woman collapsed to the floor. The light from the summoning circle faded.

The ritual was complete - The Heroes had been summoned!

The lead mage only gave his subordinate witch a fleeting glance, whilst the rest of the group gathered around her. Seeing that she was alright, he turned away. He had other priorities.

Even now he could hear the four great heroes talking, staring at their surroundings and their new weapons in awe. What was that strange 'clicking' sound?

"It worked!" he said jubilantly, surveying each of the heroes from right to left. "The summoning ceremony actually wor-" The words died in his throat, as his eyes fell upon the last of the heroes, the Hero of the Shield. It looked nothing like the others - it was not human!

The Shield Hero was significantly shorter and stockier, encased from head to toe in bronze armour, making it impossible to determine its gender. The armour was covered in strange metallic panels and a series of bronze globes decorated its lower half. Two silver arms jutted from its mid-section, one short, one long. A strange black mechanism was attached to the end of the long arm and the legendary Shield was affixed to the middle of its forearm, facing the wall.

Two uniquely moulded glass structures were rested on-top of the helmet. Some sort of strange crystal flickered beneath them. Affixed to the front of the helmet was what the magician assumed to be a strangely modified pipe or telescope. A strange blue gem glowed eerily at its centre.

In contrast to the others, the Shield Hero regained its composure quickly and stared around the room.

He turned his gaze upon the wizard!

"WHAT IS HAPPENING? WHAT IS ALL THIS?" the Dalek said, its eyestalk turning from the strange metal panel attached to its manipulator arm to rest upon what the Dalek assumed to be the leader of these robed figures. The one standing at the forefront.

Shaken by the sound of the Daleks voice, the rest of the witches and wizards who had been kneeling alongside their fallen comrade, scrambled to their feet. One of the older men supported the young woman.

"SCANS REVEAL THAT YOU ARE HUMANS" the Dalek declared, speaking more to itself than anyone else. "DETECTING DISSIPATING ENERGIES AROUND THIS STRANGE CIRCLE. ANALYSIS REVEALS SIMILARITIES TO A TRANSMAT DEVICE. WHY WAS I SUMMONED HERE?"

Its shout made everybody flinch.

"YOU EXTRACTED ME FROM A FIELD OF BATTLE AND TELEPORTED ME HERE, YOU WILL EXPLAIN YOUR ACTIONS!" it screeched.

The last thing this Dalek remembered was the whole Dalek Fleet decimating a group of human settlers on Resilon-4.

This particular trooper had entered one of the buildings, where it encountered a human male in his late teens holding onto some strange looking device that was glowing. The Dalek had exterminated the youth who in his death throws, dropped the object onto the advancing Daleks fender. Next thing this warrior knew, there was a flash of bright light – then it was falling through the time corridor.

"Ok, I'm not even going to pretend to understand half of that," the black-haired youth said. The Dalek's visor span around to look at him. "But he's right! I demand to know what's going on here and depending upon your answer, we may or may not help your cause". For emphasis, the boy raised his sword and pointed it threateningly at the group of men and women in front of him.

"I fully agree!" said the curly-haired man on his left.

"Seconded!" the man with the ponytail acknowledged.

"Ah, but of course," the lead wizard with the fallen hood replied, regaining his composure. As one, he and all the magicians bowed. "Oh great heroes, we apologise for the inconvenience, but the truth is that our world teeters on the brink of collapse. Over countless generations, a great calamity has threatened the existence of our entire world. Monsters such as we have never seen, now thrive in our existence. The only way to defeat them is with the aid of the Four Cardinal Heroes".

"Legend says that only the four chosen heroes can defeat the Waves of Calamity and restore order to our world. Using an ancient ritual, we have summoned you all here from alternate dimensions to our humble Kingdom, Melromarc".

The five magic users stood up straight and stretched their strained necks. With the most affectionate of smiles on his face, the leader raised his arms invitingly. "Please, oh, great heroes will you not help us in our plight?"

The human heroes exchanged glances. They did not seem entirely convinced. Unphased the magician turned his gaze to the Shield Hero, whose reaction, was much harder to discern.

"Does that explanation satisfy you Shield Hero? Will you help us?" he asked.

There was a pause, …

Before the Shield Hero gave a direct response.

"EXTERMINATE!"

The Dalek's ray gun swivelled and fired.

A burst of blue energy struck the magician full in his chest. As it was part of the Daleks armour and lacked the conventional trigger mechanism, the Legendary Shield did not register the ray gun as an offensive weapon.

Everyone jumped as the man's skeleton was briefly highlighted. His body shook violently. He screamed loudly for a second, before collapsing on the floor dead.

"What?" one of the Heroes gasped, as the trio stepped backwards in unison.

"What just happened?" the witch screamed, staring horrified at the creature she had unintentionally summoned.

The Dalek turned its single eye upon her.

"YOU ARE HUMANS. DALEKS DO NOT AID HUMANS. HUMANS AND ALL OTHER LIFE FORMS ARE OUR ENEMIES. EXTERMINATE!"

The woman and her nearest colleague were blasted backwards against the wall.

A second later, "EXTERMINATE!"

The two remaining wizards fell dead at the foot of the stairs.

Clang! The Daleks body shook violently, as a massive force was suddenly applied to one side of its neck grill.

"Stop this. Stop right now!" screamed the young hero with the oversized sword. Bravely or stupidly, he charged forwards, hoping to earn some glory for himself. He sought to incapacitate the Dalek with a single blow to its head. He handled the weapon clumsily, however, and the blade bounced harmlessly off of Dalek's the neck rings …

… allowing the Dalek to turn one-hundred-eighty degrees and face him.

"EXTERMINATE!"

Ren Amaki's body slumped to the ground sideways. He had been killed for the second time in an hour. His legendary sword clattered to the ground, rested for a moment, and then dissolved as if it had melted.

Motoyasu and Itsuki watched on mortified. They were cowards at heart, refusing to engage in a battle if they could not win. After arriving at this world and hearing the mages explanation, they automatically assumed that this entire world was a video game. They were the chosen heroes, destined for greatness and above all else immortality.

Now, a Shield Hero, a class they had previously considered from experience to be an inferior class of hero had shattered that illusion. This world was real, not a video game. They were now trapped in a room with a psychotic murderer. Unless they thought of something quickly, they too were dead men.

A nearby commotion on the stairs made them all look around. Two human knights in shining metal armour had arrived, in order to investigate the sound of the Dalek's ray gun. Moving as fast as the heavy metal would allow, they sprung into the room swords drawn.

"What's going on?" demanded a scar-faced Captain. "We heard shouting. What's -" The Dalek fired and cut off the rest of his sentence.

The Captains body was enveloped. He gasped, teeth clenched, then teetered forward.

His companion, a young lad not much older than Itsuki froze on the spot. He took one look at his comrade's body, glanced up at the Dalek and then bolted back up the way he came. By some miracle of fortune, he managed to evade the first shot, but not the second. His body crashed face-first into the base of the stairwell.

"No!" Itsuki gasped, as the last vestige of hope was eliminated.

"Stop this. Stop the killing!" Motoyasu pleaded, clutching at his spear and holding it protectively in front of him. Like his face and neck, the spear hero's hands were coated in sweat, making a firm grip impossible.

The Shield Hero turned its steely gaze upon them. The strange lights on the top of its cranium flickered as it spoke. "I MUST FOLLOW MY PRIMARY PURPOSE!"

Knowing that the best thing to do now was to keep the Dalek talking, Motoyasu and Itsuki scrambled for a response.

"This isn't right!" Itsuki shouted desperately. "There's no need for you to keep killing like this".

"DALEKS EXIST FOR ONE PURPOSE AND ONE PURPOSE ONLY – TO EXTERMINATE ALL ENEMIES".

"But you're in a new world now," Motoyasu pointed out. "Whatever it was these so-called 'enemies' of yours did, they don't exist here. This is a golden opportunity, a chance to start again with a new perspective".

"INCORRECT," the Shield Hero shouted, advancing upon the duo, who backed away fearfully. "I CANNOT CONTACT THE DALEK FLEET. WITHOUT THE FLEET I AM LEADERLESS. THE DALEK OBJECTIVE IS TO ENSURE OUR SURVIVAL. DALEKS ARE THE SUPREME LIFE FORMS. EVERY OTHER SPECIES IS INFERIOR. OUR EXTINCTION IS NOT AN OPTION".

The two surviving Cardinal Heroes were wedged against the wall now. Motoyasu kept his spear raised, pointing it at the Dalek without the faintest idea of whether stabbing his enemy would work. Itsuki grimaced as he backed as far into the corner as possible, whilst crouching down and hugging his knees. Without arrows, he was helpless.

The Dalek glided forwards and stopped six feet from them. "ALL OTHER LIFE FORMS ARE THE DALEK'S ENEMIES. INFERIOR CREATURES MUST BE EXTERMINATED". Shivering violently, Motoyasu and Itsuki wondered if they were going to die from a heart attack. "THAT IS MY PRINCIPLE IN THIS NEW WORLD. ENSURE THE SURVIVAL OF THE DALEKS. EX-TERM-IN-ATE!"

Motoyasu and Itsuki's torment was finally ended. The Dalek surveyed their lifeless shells for a second and then turned to the stairwell. Activating its repulsor systems, it began to ascend.

At the top of the stairs, the Dalek met a group of twenty soldiers, led by a moustached knight. The soldiers were armed with a mixture of deadly looking pikes and swords. A hooded mage was with them. The Dalek barely gave them a second to register its presence, before opening fire.

The commander went down first, followed by the magician. The rest of the unit charged forwards. The Dalek simply elevated itself higher into the air so that it was safely out of reach of the soldier's weapons. It started firing indiscriminately, killing not just the soldiers but anyone foolish enough to be nearby. Despite the risk's palace servants, priests, nobles, royal advisers and church officials had accompanied the warriors expecting to see them eliminate a renegade hero.

No one survived!

Inside the throne room.

King Aultcray Melromarc held his daughter Malty protectively, as the room shuddered. The chandeliers jingled. Specks of dust and loose debris hit the marbled floor with a loud clatter.

"Father" Princess Malty cried, clinging to his neck tightly. The middle-aged man patted her back reassuringly. He had not seen her this scared since she was a child.

"Report!" instructed the King.

"The enemy is advancing down the main corridor my Lord!" the shadow responded, having just returned from a dangerous scouting mission. "Its magic is unlike anything we have ever seen before."

"Where are the rest of our soldiers?" Aultcray demanded. "The royal guards and sorcerers. Send for the High Priest if you must!"

"Pope Balmus is already on his way Sire" the garbed figure responded, as another violent tremor shook the room. "Captain Hollister and his men were en route to intercept the hero and join the main force."

"Do we have any idea which hero it is?"

Hidden behind their veil, the nervous soldier swallowed. "Reports say that – it is the Shield Hero, Sire."

The few remaining nobles and ministers gasped at this revelation. Princess Malty looked at her father, confused.

This was not possible!

The Shield Hero, the one that the two royals had been plotting to frame and setup, who according to legend was meant to be incapable of attacking, was doing all this! Aultcray voiced what every single person inside that room was thinking – "This is impossible!"

"Apologies Sire but this is not only possible it's also happening!" the Shadow said, bowing deeply. "Our forces are being overrun. I covered a large area on my way back here. I found no one living. If we don't do something and quickly, our forces will be wiped out."

"This can't be happening!" Malty spoke, clinging to her father's arm desperately. "Father do something. I don't want to die today."

The King touched her arm reassuringly, doing his best not to look at the thick pearly tears rolling down her cheeks.

"Listen to me carefully," he told the shadow firmly, "I want you to take as many soldiers as you can muster. No matter what the cost, the Shield Demon must be eliminated. Head out into the street and gather as many adventurers as possible if you have to! Anything else is of -"

The rest of this order was cut off by a muffled scream outside.

All eyes turned in the direction of the great double doors at the opposite end of the hall.

The group heard soldiers shouting, a strange musical note, followed by more screaming.

An eerie silence followed, in which Aultcray heard his daughter's heavy breathing. Inside his chest, Aultcray's heart was racing.

Silence persisted for a few seconds, before a strange voice said, "HUMAN LIFE FORMS DETECTED!"

"Form up!" the Shadow shouted. Two more Shadows jumped down from the ceiling. Together with eight royal guards, they made for the doors. The soldiers formed a phalanx, as the Shadows braced themselves.

A few more screams could be heard from outside, followed by another pause. Then, a distorted voice shouted – "MAXIMUM EXTERMINATION!"

The wooden doors exploded inwards. The shockwave and shrapnel killed everybody except the commander, who managed to dodge out of the way, only to be intercepted by a blue streak. His body did a full one-eighty, then collapsed on the floor, dead!

As those on the second floor fled, those trapped on the ground floor had nowhere to go. All they could do was stare through the broken doorway, into the corridor outside. A single figure glided forwards, accompanied by a strange whirring sound.

[Insert music from Series One when the Daleks revealed their ability to fly]

Entering the room, …

…the Dalek's targeting lens found dozens of potential victims.

Looking straight ahead, its gaze was drawn to the richly dressed man standing in front of two ornate chairs. A young woman with red hair cowered behind him. Two other men stood on either side of them, backing away fearfully.

The Dalek advanced towards the centre of the room, its gaze never wavering. Those that could do so fled, but for this quartet, escape was not an option. They watched petrified, as their doom moved slowly towards them.

The Dalek stopped.

Aultcray's heart was hammered so loud, he could hear it in his head.

Teeth gritted, he watched as the Shield Demon shouted, raised its left arm - and fired.

The last thing Aultcray Melromarc heard was his daughter's terrified screaming!

After finishing in the throne room, the Dalek made its way to the top of the stairs that ran through the centre of the lobby. Scenes of carnage lay all around. Dozens of bodies were strewn across the floor, the result of The Shield Dalek's handiwork.

Its eyestalk moved towards the thick double doors at the entrance to the castle.

Knowing that there was still work to be done, the Daleks repulsion systems engaged once more and it descended the stairs!

"SEEK. LOCATE. EXTERMINATE!"

THE END!

Well then, that was my first take on a Doctor Who, Rising of the Shield Hero cross over.

I must say that, even for a short story, this was much larger than I anticipated.

I hope that you enjoyed reading it and would like to know what you guys thought about this short story.

Just to avoid any confusion, yes, the teenager that the Dalek exterminates before being summoned to Melromarc was Naofumi. The Dalek shot, or exterminated if you prefer, the designated Shield Hero just as he was about to be summoned.

What you must remember is that in Rising of the Shield Hero, Naofumi was not summoned in the same way as the other heroes. They were summoned the moment they died whereas Naofumi was transported to Melromarc via the magic book.

The summoning ritual had already started, so when Naofumi was killed and the book touched the Dalek, it was summoned instead.

As I said, this was the shorter and arguably much simpler of the two Rising of the Shield Dalek stories. A much larger, much more in-depth story shall be published tomorrow!

Until then - stay safe everyone, bless you all!
