Hey guys! This is first fanfic that I've written and I hope it's good because I'm a little nervous to be uploading stuff on here hehe, anyways I hope you enjoy! Keep in mind I tried my best to describe the pups looking older as best as I can without trying to sound too repetitive haha.
It has been three years. Adventure Bay and its residents haven't gone through too many changes. Only that there was an influx in people coming to live in Adventure Bay so the island wasn't as small as it used to be and more homes and resident buildings have popped up around town. Of course everyone had grown older and experienced some changes too, whether it be their appearance or personality or just stayed the same as they had 3 years ago. But the group with the most change was the PAW Patrol pups.
Chase grew to be taller and bigger, the biggest one in the group actually. His legs slightly slimming out and losing all the puppy fat he had when he was younger and his top coat turning into a more dark brown. His fur grew a little longer but kept it trimmed daily. He still maintained the muscles he has due to the constant training and rescuing he had gone through and his ears grew as well. He had a slim body with slightly large paws and deep brown eyes, melting the hearts of any female pup that were to gaze into them.
Marshall was the second biggest one in the group. He grew almost to be Chase's height and his legs also pretty slim with all the puppy fat gone and having a muscular build, not as much as Chase but it's still there. More spots had appeared but it's barely noticeable and his blue bell eyes are still full of excitement and love than ever for his team.
Skye, despite being the third oldest next to Marshall and Chase, she's actually still one of the smallest in their group, just an inch or two under Rubble. She grew a little taller though, her ears a slightly darker color and her fur getting long enough that she has to cut it every 2 weeks. She still has kind of small paws but they weren't as small as when she was a pup and her beautiful pink eyes continued to shine with confidence.
Rocky was the third largest next to Marshall and his gray fur is a much darker color along with the spot around his eye an even darker color. The white tufts on the sides of his face and his tail a slightly darker color as well. His ears had grown in length and his orange-brown eyes still held tons of knowledge but however was still absolutely petrified at the thought of water.
Zuma was the fourth largest next to Rocky and his chocolate brown fur grew but not a lot, still remaining at a short length. His legs thinned out but not by a lot, he still remained in the same appearance as he was when he was a pup but just bigger and his speech impediment was fixed, but shows sometimes when he's excited about something. His yellow eyes always shone with competitiveness when playing with Skye.
Rubble despite being the youngest in the team was still a little bit bigger than Skye. He grew out more than up which was effective in him having a more sturdy figure to pick up heavier things he could only dream of doing as a pup. His colors and design remained relatively the same, his tail grew slightly in length as it was just a small nub as a pup. He's still in love with show Apollo the Superpup and still has never grown out of his costume, occasionally donning it whenever the pups decide to watch an episode just for the sake of revisiting the past again.
Ryder, being thirteen years old, still hasn't grown that much, maybe just a few inches and Katie happened to tower over him the slightest bit. He still had his signature outfit and hairstyle and his voice still hasn't exactly hit puberty yet but he's getting there so sometimes his voice would crack causing the pups to always giggle.
Anyway, it was just a regular, sunny day in Adventure Bay and Ryder and the PAW Patrol decided to take a walk through the town, the citizens of the town waving to them and some of the female pups present winking or shouting a hello to them with a flirty smile to follow, completely ignoring Skye. The guys blushed at the attention and ones who aren't too used to it like Rubble, hid behind Rocky.
Skye looked slightly peeved at this but didn't think much of it, choosing to engage Zuma in a conversation, taking up the rear end of their group while Chase and Marshall were in the front and in the middle is Rubble next to Rocky but still kind of hiding behind him.
They made a pit stop at Mr. Porter's restaurant to pick up some lunch.
"Hello Mr. Porter!" Ryder greeted with a smile and the man smiled back.
"Well hello there Ryder, pups. How's everyone?" He asked kindly, crossing his arms over his chest.
"Good!" Everyone yelped back and Ryder chuckled. "What they said."
Mr. Porter shifted left to right on his feet before speaking up in an inquisitive tone. "So, what can I do for you?"
"Could we get some bananas and carrots to go please?"
"Coming right up! You're in luck cause a fresh new shipment of carrots from Farmer Yumi's came in!" Mr. Porter exclaimed, his voice fading away as he went inside to grab them.
While waiting, Skye's eyes scanned the area around them, having been trained to look across large expanses of area when in the air and can't help but examine their surroundings. Across the street from them she noticed out of the corner of her eye a group of 3 female pups. One was a poodle, another a corgi, and the third a yorkie. They were whispering to each other secretly, alternating between throwing flirty smiles at the male pups and dirty looks at the only female member there with them.
The aviator pup gave a scalding glare when they glanced back at her and they flinched, not expecting her to notice them and quickly ran off.
She lowered her head to the ground, her glare practically burning holes into the ground and muttered underneath her breath. "Tch, cowards." This however happened to catch the attention of the Zuma, the pup closest to her.
"Something the matter Skye?" He asked in concern, making sure to keep his voice low so it doesn't attract the attention of the other members.
Startled, she jumped and nodded quickly. Zuma looked at her doubtfully and was about to say something but his attention was quickly drawn back when Ryder received the two bags of carrots and bananas from Mr. Porter.
"Here you go Ryder! Have an amazing day!"
"Thanks Mr. Porter, you too!" Ryder waved as he and the pups walked to the park.
"Let's take a break here and eat the delicious food Mr. Porter gave us." The boy suggested and the pups barked in agreement.
They all settled underneath a tree and finished the bananas and carrots fairly quickly. Rubble snuck up behind an unsuspecting Marshall and tapped him with his paw.
"Tag! You're it!" He shouted with glee and dashed off. The other pups followed and ran off into different areas of the park.
"Hey no fair!" Marshall groaned and picked himself up. "I'm gonna getcha!"
He began to run to where Skye was standing and with a giggle, the small but agile pup began to dash off, quickly cutting around an unsuspecting Chase and the fire pup, not noticing him, crashed right into the police pup causing them to tumble a few feet back and ended with Marshall sitting on Chase with the latter laid out on his belly with a shocked expression.
"Guess I tagged you a little too hard Chase." Marshall joked and the three pups laughed.
Marshall picked himself up and rolled off of Chase. Skye giggled and before she was able to make a run for it so Chase couldn't tag her, two female lab pups approached them, one yellow and one black. They were practically bouncing in place with huge grins across their faces.
"Hi! You guys are part of the famous PAW Patrol right?" The yellow lab asked excitedly.
"Yup we are!" Skye yipped. "How can we help you?"
The two looked at her with disinterest before their eyes lit up again once they landed back on Chase and Marshall.
Chase rubbed the back of his neck with a sheepish grin. "I wouldn't really call ourselves famous…"
"Are you kidding?! You guys rescue so many people and animals like it's nothing! All your rescues are absolutely amazing I can't pick just one! I also have to mention that hat rescues are my absolute favorite." The black lab rambled, completely disregarding the female pup a few feet away and the two guys noticed this.
"Uhh I think you're forgetting one."
Marshall was completely ignored as the yellow lab shuffled around in the backpack of the black lab and whipped out two pieces of paper and presented it to the fire and police pup.
The yellow also took out a marker and laid it on top of the paper. "Could we get your autographs?"
Marshall and Chase looked at each other and shrugged, picking up the marker in their mouth and just opting for writing their name with the symbol on their pup tag next to it.
"Thank you!" They both squealed.
"No problem." Chase smiled and glanced towards Skye, shocked at the scathing, but hurt look on her face. "But I think there's someone else-"
He wasn't able to finish his sentence before they both ran off. Chase turned and saw Marshall slowly approach their aviator pup.
"Skye…" He began uneasily. "Are you alright?"
Not even being acknowledged must've been a major blow to her ego and the small tears forming in her pink eyes is evidence of that but they disappeared as quickly as they appeared when Skye wiped them away with her paw and adopted her signature grin, but Chase noticed it was strained.
"Yep, don't worry! I'm pretty sure they were bigger fans of yours anyway." She assured them. "I'm gonna go take a breather, you guys can continue without me."
Before either of them could get a word in, she quickly began running to where the bathrooms were and the two pups watched her with worry in their eyes and exchanged a glance with each other.
Soon, they heard Rocky call over to them to see what the hold up was.
"Where's Skye?" He asked when he noticed the small cockapoo wasn't with them anymore.
"She went to the bathroom." Chase explained and Rocky nodded his head. When the eco pup turned around and ran away, Chase couldn't help but worry that Skye wasn't really ok with what happened and this distracted him, causing him to run right into a tree. He let out a pained grunt and slid down, flopping onto his back.
Ryder, witnessing the crash immediately ran over and knelt down beside the german shepherd. "Woah Chase are you alright? That looked pretty bad."
Chase shook his head rapidly and noticed the rest of the pups around him with Skye still missing. He stood up on his feet, stumbling to retrieve his balance again before righting himself and nodding to everyone.
"Yeah I'm fine, don't worry about me." He assured them before scanning the area. "Is Skye still missing?"
Zuma nodded. "She's been in the bathroom for a while. I'm worried for her."
The rest of the pups nodded in agreement before they heard three female pups approaching them. It was the same pups Skye saw across the street at Mr. Porter. But they obviously didn't know that she saw them, or that they were even there in the first place.
"Hey, you guys are the super famous PAW Patrol right?" The poodle asked flirtatiously, sauntering up to Rocky and getting into his personal space.
The mixed breed, not used to this much attention from a stranger, backed away from her quickly. "Uh...yeah I guess you can say that."
"You guys are super cute." The corgi said out of the blue, sending a wink and blowing a kiss at Rubble who looked confused at this and didn't know what to do besides blush in embarrassment.
The chocolate lab's eyes darted around with uncertainty. "Thanks…" Zuma trailed off, not knowing how to respond to that and jumping almost a few feet into the air when the yorkie sidled up to him and began feeling his muscles.
"Do you work out a lot?" She cooed, and Zuma yelped, scrambling away from her and hiding behind Chase.
"I'd appreciate it if you didn't touch him without his consent." The police pup growled in a cold voice and nearly flinched back when the yorkie was suddenly in front of him.
"Ooh demanding and handsome, I like it." She giggled, scanning him up and down.
Chase, feeling mildly disturbed by this, backed away before bumping into Marshall who was also having his own problem dealing with the poodle that had suddenly turned her attention to him when he tried to inch away from them. He and Marshall were back to back, unable to escape the unwanted attention of two very insisting dogs and the pups weren't sure on how to help them. Even Ryder seemed at a loss, watching from the sidelines to see what would happen with Rubble, Rocky, and Zuma, who quickly migrated from Chase to Ryder once the yorkie started approaching him, all behind the 13 yr old, looking sympathetically at the two pups.
"You know, I don't know why you guys even need a female pup on your team," The corgi began, "you guys are perfectly fine and capable without her around."
Everyone's eyes widened and then narrowed at the stout little dog who managed to offend nearly everyone on the team with just one sentence. The poodle nodded in agreement while the yorkie still sent lustful gazes towards Chase, who gulped audibly.
"Hey! Leave them alone!" A voice exclaimed from behind them.
Everyone glanced in that direction and the male pups sighed in relief when their female pup arrived with a glare that could melt steel, causing the female pups to flinch but remain steady.
Shaking her fur, the poodle sneered with a judgemental glare aimed at the cockapoo. "Ugh, the useless one arrived." Her attention straying away from Marshall allowed him the opportunity to quickly scramble up and hide behind Ryder as well.
The aviator pup's eyes narrowed and she slowly stalked closer towards the poodle.
"Like you do anything at all." Skye retorted from between gritted teeth. "What were you doing harassing them like that?"
"We're just showing them what a real lady is like, unlike you." The corgi said smugly.
"Yeah, they do all the work anyway. You don't do anything." The yorkie piped up.
With her attention away from him, Chase sped off to behind Ryder as well.
Ignoring their jabs towards her, Skye addressed the main issue at hand.
"They obviously don't like your attention so I suggest you quit it." She almost growled in a dangerously low voice that could still be heard by the females but the guys had to move closer to hear her.
"And what are you gonna do about that then huh? Run to your stupid little owner and complain like a spoiled little brat?" The poodle snarked, examining her claws with a haughty look like she had won their spat.
However, it was far from over.
Skye snarled and some of the guys jumped, never hearing a sound like that come from their normally cheerful and friendly aviator pup. She didn't even bother to restrain herself at that point. All she saw was red. She tackled the poodle and sent them both tumbling down the hill. Everyone gasped and ran down the hill to catch up.
The cockapoo managed to get a few swipes on the poodle before she was pulled off by Ryder. The poodle touched her face and winced when she felt a bruise beginning to form and sent a glare towards Skye.
"YOU FREAK!" She screeched and ran off, the yorkie and corgi following behind her.
Skye kept growling at her until she left and all her adrenaline left her when she finally realized what she had done. She began whimpering in shame and hid her head in the crook of Ryder's arm, not allowing him to put her down.
He just looked down at her sympathetically and carried her back to the lookout, deciding they all had enough excitement for the day and the rest of the pups silently followed behind, not knowing what to make of the situation that just happened.
When they arrived, Ryder set her down and Skye made a dash to her pup house, facing the inside of it so she didn't have to look or face any of her friends. The rest of the pups looked worriedly at her direction. They didn't think her display of aggression was that bad actually. It was pretty awesome for her to stick up for them. Better it be her that tackled the poodle than one of them or else there would be a lot of explaining to do.
"What should we do?" Rocky whimpered, worried for his friend and his ears drooping down sadly as he heard a slight sob come from her dog house.
"We make her feel better that's what." Chase said firmly, marching over to where she was and the pups followed behind with uncertainty.
All the gusto he had was gone when he heard a particularly loud sob coming from her and his confidence just shattered and his ears flattened against his head. Similar to Rocky, he whimpered and slowly approached the crying pup.
"Skye.." He began and the sobbing paused and a small hiccup came from her. The cockapoo turned to face him and the look on her face just stabbed everyone in the heart.
Her fur was mussed up and her eyes were rimmed red from crying and they could tell the tears were still going strong. Zuma was the first to come forward, gently taking Skye's paw and leading her out and she willingly followed him, sniffing occasionally. He let go of her paw so she could wipe away her tears forcefully but Chase was suddenly in front of her, gently putting her paw down before wiping her tears away softly with his own paw.
"C'mon, tell us what's wrong."
She shook her head stubbornly, turning around to go back and wallow in her pup house before Marshall gently took her by the tail and slowly tugged her back before she was forced to make her way to them but with her back still turned.
"How about we go to the beach and talk about this?" Zuma suggested and everyone nodded in agreement, while Skye just remained silent with the occasional hiccup.
The walk to the beach felt longer because of the silence between all of them but they made it to the sandy ground with Zuma leading them and they all sat a few feet away from the waves brushing up on to the beach. Skye was still hyperventilating and attempting to keep her crying and hiccuping under control cause she didn't want to completely lose it in front of her friends.
"Just take a deep breath Skye," Marshall instructed her with uncharacteristic patience, "In and out...in and out...yeah that's it."
She breathed in the salty air, letting the beach wash over her senses before she was calm enough to form a coherent sentence without stuttering. The rest of the pups remained silent, allowing her time to speak when she was ready.
"I don't like the attention you guys are receiving," She started off bluntly in a small voice, slightly shocking them. "Don't get me wrong, it's great that you guys are getting recognition, you absolutely deserve it. But it rubs me the wrong way whenever pups approach us and only prefer to talk to you because you guys are well...guys and you do a lot of things that make you stand out so obviously I wouldn't get noticed. It didn't bother me at first but with the incident at the park, I just thought over and over in my head, maybe she was right? THEY were right? Maybe I'm really not needed on this team. Maybe I am just a waste of space. May-"
Chase gently put a paw over her mouth to stop her from continuing. "Don't say or ever think those things again. You absolutely deserve to be on this team more than anyone else. You are an amazing and talented aviator pup, no one could perform those rescue missions as great as you can. Don't listen to the opinions of pups who never experienced what you had to before cause they don't understand and know you as well as we do. We know that you are the heart of this team and we would be a wreck without you so chin up Skye, cause we appreciate you a lot for being here." He ended his speech with a smile and the rest of the pups smiled also.
The pup in question began to get teary eyed again and everyone began to panic, thinking that she was upset still.
"Chase!" Rocky exclaimed, "What did you do!"
"I don't know! All I did was try to cheer her up." He said defensively and they all began to yell out a multitude of reasons on why she began to cry again, causing her to giggle and then that giggle turned into a full on laugh. The pups looked in her direction and a fond smile began forming on their faces, glad that their favorite female pup was smiling again.
"You guys are so silly." She smiled sweetly, melting Chase's heart once again. "But thank you, Chase. That was so sweet of you I just can't thank you enough.
"You're welcome!" He replied with his own smile and its Skye's turn to melt.
"So...you were jealous?" Marshall teased, sidling up to Skye and wiggling his eyebrows.
"No I wasn't!" She exclaimed indignantly, shoving him away with a huff before being met with another pair of mischievous yellow eyes from Zuma.
"It's ok to admit that you were jealous that our attention wasn't on you." He smirked, ducking a head slap that would've hurt pretty badly if she succeeded in doing it. Skye had a mean smack.
"I was NOT jealous!" She pouted, crossing her arms and turning away from him. "Rubble back me up here!"
"I dunno Skye, you seemed pretty jealous back there." He shrugged, smiling when the pup groaned in defeat.
"I just can't win!" She exclaimed and everyone laughed and she flopped onto her belly, gazing at the soft waves and reveling in the calming noise the ocean made. The cockapoo felt a warmth beside her and noticed Chase cuddling up to her and Marshall was doing the same on the other side. Zuma had his head resting on Chase's back and Rocky had his on Skye's while Rubble had his on Marshall's.
"I love you guys." She sighed after a few moments of silence.
"We love you too." Everyone softly chimed back before they all drifted off to sleep.
Not long after, Ryder found them sleeping and draped a blanket over them with a fond smile. "What a bunch of good pups."
