'The Walls stood for a century, a bashing of peace and security, gone was the terror of living at the mercy. Mankind had cremated to living like cattle, but then the Titans breach what we longed taken for granted, the fight for humanities survival began. Death rained, claiming soldiers and civilians alike, the casualties were staggering too was the hard-won knowledge that Titans were hiding among our own. Five years after the first Wall fell we successfully captured one of these treacherous creatures alive, a fellow soldier Eir Stormheart and yet even when the smoke of battle cleared, the next threat was already close at hand.'
The Scouts were now securing Eir, who was encased in the strange crystal-like substance they won't be even entirely sure whether she was aware of her surroundings. Regardless was too dangerous to keep out the open so it was decided to take at an underground cell.
Valka was overseeing the operation when several Scouts just stared up at the Wall dumbfounded.
"What the?"
"Guys look! What is that?"
Valka turned her gaze towards the Wall and saw that it was beginning to crumble and they could see the face of a Titan peering out of the hole. Then they saw it I move, indicating it was very much alive.
"It's a Titan!"
"In the Wall?"
"Impossible."
Valka immediately rushed towards the scene, too stunned for words.
"Section Commander, your orders?" Mason asked.
Valka didn't do know what to say. "Uh… well, I'm not sure." She couldn't understand why there was a Titan inside the Wall. 'Is this just a coincidence or… Oh no, surely it doesn't mean.'
Then suddenly a hand grasped her shoulder, she quickly turned around and saw Mildew looking at her somewhat exhausted.
"Pastor Mildew?" Valka stared.
"Listen to me, whatever else you do don't let sunlight touch it!" he yelled fearfully.
Valka looked at him, became abundantly clear that he knew about the Titans in the Wall, which begged the question on what else he was hiding and why.
Stoick was immediately informed of the situation, he had just managed to convince the committee that the recent actions were necessary. However, all he managed to accomplish was to buy more time, and he didn't know by how much.
"We've covered the Wall Titan with sheets, it seems to be holding up," a Scout reported. "Further measures will be taken after sundown, Commander."
"Understood," Stoick nodded.
"Forgive me, Sir," said the Scout. "But what are we supposed to make of all this? I mean, I never imagined that they could be tightened inside the Walls."
"Why would you?" Stoick asked without looking back. "No one did, there are only those that knew and those of us completely in the dark."
The MPs were still cleaning up the mess, though they had no idea that the Female Titan had been in fact one of their own.
"Why are they keeping quiet about all this?" Wartihog frowned. "It's an earthshattering discovering for Thor sake. What's the point of playing it off?"
"Status quo, right," said Hitch. "Yeah, higher-ups play it close to the vest. All this carnage and they couldn't even be bothered to come up with a decent cover story."
Valka and the Scouts had covered the Wall Titan entirely, but she still wanted answers and so dragged Mildew to the top of the Wall.
"All right, you want to tell me what's going on?" Valka asked in a demanding tone. "Why a Titan? What's the purpose? What is the point of having one hidden inside the Wall? And why choose to keep it a secret? I'm going to need answers, and I'm going to need them right now!"
Mildew remained quiet as he looked over the Wall and then sighed. "I don't have time for this nonsense; I'm a busy man. My flock has been devastated; I demand restitution! Do you know who I am? Let me down here this instant!"
"If that's what you want," said Valka narrowing her eyes, then grabbed the hem of his cassock, and then dangled him over the Wall. "Will straight down do the trick?"
"Commander," said Mason as he and the other Scouts looked at her worriedly.
"Hold!" Valka ordered and then looked back at Mildew. "Let me ask you something, do you have any concept of how many Scouts have laid down their lives fighting these monsters? More than you can count; they died fighting for your freedom! I was with them; I was willing to lay down my own life! Now you can explain or take the plunge, your choice I can always move onto the next blowhard. Matter of fact they probably would no more than you anyway, why am I bothering?"
"Let's go!" Mildew demanded. "Unhand me!"
"That's kind of what I had in mind," said Valka.
"Do it!"
"Don't try and call my bluff!"
"Please don't," Mason pleaded.
"You think I'm afraid to die in the service of my belief?" said Mildew. "We will fulfill our duty, no matter the cost. I don't care; the gods are my Shepherd let his humble servant fall."
Valka knew it was challenging to break religious fanatics, especially those who are willing to die for their beliefs. She then tossed Mildew back onto the Wall, and he just sat there somewhat shaken and.
"Lighten up, I was just kidding around," said Valka as she sat down. "Come on; Pastor Mildew spell it, are all the walls made of Titans? At least tell me that much."
Mason then approached her. "Section Commander?"
Valka sighed. "How long has it been since I felt like this? Wow, and must have been when I first stepped outside the Walls for the first time. Talk about terrifying."
Then suddenly the bells began to ring and then a Scout approach the Walls at full speed on horseback.
"Hurry, I have to tell Commander Stoick!" he said. "The Titans have breached Wall Rose!"
Twelve hours ago, before the Female Titan had been exposed, the new recruits were housed in a small outpost at the south of Wall Sina. Everyone was utterly bored out of their minds, especially the twins.
"You know our village happens to be a little bit south of where we are now," said Tuffnut.
"Where I come from is pretty close as well," Heather added as she read from a book.
"Why can't we see our people?" Ruffnut pondered.
"We could just sneak out after dark," said Tuffnut.
"I wouldn't risk it," said Heather.
"The folks where we grew up, tried to tell us that we would do crazy to be soldiers," Tuffnut smirked.
"And yet we end up being with the Scouts, guess they were right all along," said Ruffnut.
"Guys, I'll help you if you really want to go," Dogsbreath offered as a played with Clueless.
"And why would you do that?" Ruffnut asked.
"Doesn't this feel a bit strange?" Dogsbreath asked. "We're on standby in our plainclothes; they won't let us wear uniforms we can't even train." He then got to his feet and made his way to the window where he saw some heavily armed Scouts talking to one another. "What even more suspicious, our superiors are armed to the teeth. We're inside the Wall, not the front line so who exactly are we fighting?"
"Maybe they're just worried about bears," said Tuffnut.
"All you need for bears are guns," said Dogsbreath as he sat back down.
Heather's eyes then suddenly lit up. "Uh, guys I think I hear footsteps!"
Everyone looked at her.
"Knock it off, Heather," said Dogsbreath sceptically. "Are you telling us that Titans are here? Come on that would only be possible if Wall Rose had fallen."
The man in charge of the outpost was Gunnar, and he knew something was off.
"What is it Gunnar?" Mala asked.
"Torn, ride out of here and take three couriers! Notify the districts!" he ordered. 'The odds of Titans hiding the 104th Cadet Corps are low.'
In the distance, he could see a cloud of dust and the shadows of several giant humanoids heading towards them.
"We've got Titans in the South! Wall Rose has been compromised!"
Inside Heather was trying to convince everyone that Titans were heading towards them.
"I'm not joking; I hear something!" Heather yelled.
It was that point that they saw Mala landed on the windowsill and she quickly opened it.
"Is everyone here?" she asked.
"What is it, Mala?" Christa asked.
"We've got company, approximately 500 m to the south and closing, Titans headed this way," she said. "There's no time to suit up with your ODM gear; I want everyone on a horse immediately. Evacuate every home and settlement in the area, get to it!"
The twins looked at one another.
"The south?" Tuffnut stared.
Ruffnut nodded. "But that's…"
Dogsbreath looked at Clueless. "Do we know if the Wall has really been breached?"
"Ride, I'm afraid lunch is going to have to wait," said Mala as she took off and Torn and the other messengers had already taken off. She then landed on the roof and then approached Gunnar.
"Gunnar," she said.
"Nine of them, in that swarm up ahead," he said.
"They must have broken through Wall Rose," said Mala. "Damnit, we didn't even get the chance to figure out what in Thor's name these are. Now it's too late; humanity has lost. This is the end."
"Like hell it is," said Gunnar. "We're not done, not yet. A person only loses when they give in, remember that. As long as we keep on putting up a fight, we haven't been beaten."
The new recruits had mounted the horses and immediately took off. Then Gunnar and the rest of the Scouts mounted horses and did the same thing.
"The second the Titans takes the woods, we split up!" Gunnar ordered as loudly as he could. "I want four separate teams, recruiters and soldier alike in each unit! When I give, the signal will scan in different directions simultaneously. Get the word out to civilians, do not engage the enemy! Which one of you is most familiar with the area?"
"I am!" Heather yelled, raising her hand. "Sir, my hometown is just north of here. I know this region the back of my hand."
Dagur nodded. "She is more familiar with the area then I am, and I'm her older brother."
"The twins as well," Heather added.
The twins just rode there dumbstruck.
"What's wrong?" Heather asked.
"Our villages… our village is to the south," said Ruffnut. "That's where the Titans are coming from."
"We can lead you to nearby settlements, but afterwards let us go home, please," said Tuffnut.
Gunnar looked back at them. "Very well, guide the southern team and then go to your village."
"Yes, sir," said the twins.
Dogsbreath then approached them. "I'll come with you."
"What?" Tuffnut blinked. "Are you crazy, they'll be everywhere?"
"You think I care?" Dogsbreath smiled. "I was going to help you get home anyway, wasn't I?" He then turned and looked at Clueless. "What about you? You coming?"
"Of course, wouldn't miss it for the world," said Clueless.
"As you have guessed today marks the darkest hour humanity's history," said Mala. "Look sharp, if ever we had to give us all the time is now! Don't lose heart!"
"They reached the words, the enemies on top of us!" Dagur yelled, looking back.
Everyone looked back, and sure enough, the Titans had now reached the woods.
"Scatter now!" Gunnar ordered. "Ride for everything you're worth!"
All of them then immediately began to scatter in four different directions, but no sooner had they done that the Titans ran with unbelievable speed.
"No, they're coming at us at full tilt," said Gunnar noting that several of them were heading towards their group.
"Holy shit!" said Tuffnut.
"Dagur, take charge of the southern team!" Gunnar yelled as he turned towards the Titans.
"Sir!" Dagur stared. "Uh, understood…"
"Tell me he's not using himself as bait?" a female Scout asked.
"I'll go with him, I can help," a Scout offered.
"Stay where you are! We can't spare any more soldiers!" Dagur yelled. "Give him some credit, that man's skills are second only to Captain Eret, he'll make it back alive. Count on it."
Gunnar had jumped off his horse and fired his anchors at one of the nearby Titans, he then quickly pulled himself in zigzagging at the same time, and then launched himself into the air. He then re-fire the anchor right at the back of the Titan's neck and pulled himself in and then sliced right through the nape.
Ragnar had finally regained consciousness; he then got to his feet and made his way towards the window. He remembered part of the battle; they had won the number of people had been killed in making it seem like a victory plus their captive was now suspended animation meaning they were unable to get any information.
Then suddenly, the door burst open, and Hiccup entered with a frantic look on his face. "Ragnar! They've broken through Wall Rose! The Titans are coming!"
The Scouts were getting prepared; it was vital that they protected the civilians as well as determine how many Titans were inside the Wall.
"Why can't the sons of bitches give us a moment's peace?" said Eret as he entered Stoick's office with the man himself was stationed.
"Can you go?" Stoick asked.
"Like there's a choice."
"If I may say so, sir," said the Scout in the room. "It was very wise leaving Gunnar in charge of the 104th, if anyone can handle the situation he can."
"Yes, let's hope so," Stoick nodded.
It was sunset and Gunnar was still cutting his way through the Titans in the forest, he was now running up the arm of the 15m and quickly sliced right through its nape. He then landed back on the roof of the outpost and surveyed the area.
'Only four them left,' he said. One of them was a 15m, but two of them were smaller ones he then shook his head. 'No, don't risk it. I've bought us more than enough time.' He then sheathed one of his blades and whistled to signal his horse; he then turned the abnormal, which he viewed as the more significant concern. It was unlike any other Titan he had ever seen, it was 17m tall with abnormally long arms, but the thing that stood out was the fact that it was covered in fur and had more beastlike features.
'Still though that abnormal worries me, look at the bastard,' he said. 'Easily over 17m tall, massive, and this is the first time I've seen one of them covered with what… fur? It's just lumbering around, why doesn't it try to rush me, definitely an abnormal but…' He then heard his horse galloping towards him right in front of the Beast Titan. 'Ah, there you are. Looks like I don't have to hold out for sundown after all.'
Then suddenly the Beast Titan grabbed the horse entirely out of nowhere much to Gunnar's shock. Titans always ignored anything but humans, so the fact that it caught his horse meant that it was not an ordinary Titan.
"What that… it went for the horse?" he stared and quickly unsheathed his swords.
The Beast Titan then slowly turned towards him and crashed the horse and its palm and then tossed it straight at them. Gunnar hadn't expected this, the speed of which it threw the horse was faster than a cannonball. He tried to jump out of the way, but the impact still causing him to lose his balance, and he slid off the roof.
Before he could fire his anchors, a 4m with an abnormally large head grabbed him and opened its largemouth. It then bit down on his legs, causing him to scream in pain as it struggled to free himself.
"Wait," said a voice.
The Titan stopped eating him, and when Gunnar looked up, he saw the beast Titan approaching him. It then bent down towards him and gave him a curious look and Gunnar just stared at it as he could have sworn that it spoke. However, the Titan then bit down on his legs, and he groaned in pain.
"You must not have heard me," said the Beast Titan and then grasped its head. "I told you to wait!"
He then squeezed his palm crushing the Titan's head therefore freeing Gunnar, who was just too stunned to speak.
The Beast Titan then looked down at him. "May I ask what you call that strange weapon of yours?" Gunnar just stared up at him utterly bewildered. "That thing attached to your waist that allows you to fly."
Gunnar was unable to say a single word; this was the first time that a Titan had ever spoken. He knew that its appearance was strange, but he didn't expect this.
Beast Titan frowned. "Huh, I'm fairly certain that we speak the same language. Perhaps too frightened to formulate a response. I notice that you also used swords. Fascinating, must mean that you know that we reside in the nape. Ah, well… suppose I'll just take it back to me."
Its hand then started to approach Gunnar, who then cringed with fear, but instead of grabbing him, it caught his ODM gear. It removed it delicately and placed between two of its fingers, and once he retreated, he rose to his feet and began to walk off.
Gunnar had become overcome by fear and shock; he never experienced anything like this though, on the other hand, the Beast Titan had proved to be too much for someone to cope for a single day. He then remembered what he told Mala earlier this morning and managed to regain his courage. He suddenly grabbed one of his swords and then performed a battlecry.
His screams alerted the Beast Titan, who looked as if he had forgotten something. "Oh, you can all move now."
Then suddenly all three of the remaining Titans and rushed in towards Gunnar at the same time.
"No!" Gunnar yelled and tried to make a run for it, but without his ODM gear and with his injured legs, he stood no chance.
The Titans managed to catch up with him and began to eat him, unfortunately, the smaller Titans were the ones who grabbed him first. Since their mouths were so little, they couldn't eat him in one go, so it was a slow and painful death as they bit into his flesh as he cried out for mercy.
"Ah, so you do know how to speak," said the Beast Titan and then walked off, looking at the ODM gear curiously. "An exceptional clever idea, I must say."
