Cursed Little Witch

The summer of 1910 was a long and humid one. Storms had ravaged the countryside, as heat came crashing down, smoldering crops in its wake. But the records did not mention much about the raging heat and chaotic storms, no, their main focus was the story of the wicked witch, Atsuko Kagari.

Atsuko Kagari was no criminal.

Of course, the records would show that she was nothing but a criminal mastermind pretending to be a foreign fool.

Atsuko would disagree; she was a fool.

But the records would illustrate how such a fearsome foreigner tricked the noble hearts of Luna Nova into accepting her before showing her true colors once their backs were turned.

Murder, the records whispered. Murder of a lord and a lady.

Atsuko had killed no one.

Records would prove that the foreigner, Atsuko Kagari, masqueraded as a student of Luna Nova in order to get close to the Hanbridge family and murder one Arther Hanbridge, long-time contributer of the academy and esteemed politician.

Lies.

Ah, but it didn't end there, no. Kagari would also kill the youngest daughter of the Cavendish family head, Fay Cavendish, leaving a trail of blood in her wake.

...another lie.

Perhaps the young woman had been caught in the middle of the wicked witch's evil plot. Perhaps Lady Cavendish had wished to save poor Arthur from Kagari's wrath and had perished in the effort. Perhaps Lord Hanbridge had done the saving and…

...and they couldn't find the real mastermind, so they went around and pinned the pair of murders on a foreigner. Typical.

The records would show how Atsuko Kagari tried to deny fault, how she screamed for her innocence, how her crocodile tears flooded her dark conscience.

No one dared to write about the girl's tears...no one dared to notice the despair, the anger.

Kagari was but a mere foreigner, the records whispered. A foreigner in a a foreing land who had come to murder all those that stood in her way like a savage from an even more savage land.

Her punishment was decided in just three days. Kagari would not burn as many people had hoped. She was not to hang, and no, she was not to rot in prison. Her punishmentー

ーher curse

Records say that her punishment would be the worst of them all.

Atsuko Kagari would forever be locked in a form that would brand her as a criminal. A form that forever brands her as a wicked witch that deserves no mercy, no sympathy.

She was sealed in the depths of the dungeons of Luna Nova, where many other criminals had been sealed in the past. Many had hoped that the many creatures living inside the maze of rock and soil would eat her up…

...and the records stopped recording but Atsuko still remembered.

She remembered the rain, the darkness, the pain.

Atsuko remembered crying out for someone, anyone, to come save her from her misery. To save her from this curse. To save her from eternity.

But no one came.

And the years passed, the world stopped caring but Atsuko Kagari never forgot. Never…

...and then, one day, a little witch appeared.
