Disclaimer: I don't own the characters of Magnum PI. I just like to play with them, especially Magnum and when the muse strikes, I like to break him for my own satisfaction because the show barely does.

Chapter I

Magnum wasn't expecting Hannah's name to come up in the conversation. He tried to play it cool but if he was honest, there were too many emotions and thoughts to process. Since her betrayal, he hadn't been able to think about anything else except for why she did it. So when he saw her, he felt a cold grip on his heart. He knew this day was coming, he told himself he was ready to confront her in order to get answers. He was lying to himself.

Magnum realized that if she could sell him and his friends to the Taliban, she was capable of more despicable things. For example, here he was dangling off the side of a moving truck while nursing a wound on his side after been kidnapped. Although, she did warn him she would shoot him if she had to, a part of him hoped she wouldn't go as far as doing so. As bad as he wanted her to pay for what she did to them, he couldn't bring himself to pull the trigger. Maybe he still loved her, and that stopped him from physically causing her harm. Of course, that didn't mean she felt the same way judging by the gun she was pointing at him. He'll never forget the look on her eyes. She was determined, she was a woman with a mission and he was in the way.

Truth be told, he had been injured more times than he'd care to admit. In fact, he had been shot several times but never by someone who was once so close to him. He saw her hesitate, and for a moment he hoped it was enough to stop her from pulling the trigger. It didn't and the force of the impact sent him flying off the truck and rolling down the road. Once the momentum stopped, he didn't waste time checking to see just how many scrapes and bruises he sported, instead he just stared at the truck. He could see in the distance how it had flipped sideways with gold bars falling out and creating a yellow brick road as they touched the ground. When the truck finally stopped skidding, he pushed himself up with the last of his adrenaline rush. As he got closer, Magnum hoped she survived the crash because his priority hadn't changed; she needed to answer for a lot of things, and not just to the police.

By the time he reached the truck and peered inside, the cabin was empty. She was gone once again and he was tired. Hannah made him a pawn in her dreadful schemes and then disappeared leaving him to survive the fallout. He was tired of being played, tired of hurting others and tired of being hurt by her. Magnum looked away for a second, into the distance; Hawaii was supposed to be the change he needed. Hawaii was his paradise, it wasn't meant to be a place where Hannah left him to die.

The feeling of his shirt sticking to his body brought him back to reality. That's when he realized he didn't feel so hot. He looked down and noticed a bright red stain spreading all over the left side of his Hawaiian shirt. He really liked that shirt. His body felt heavy, and he needed to sit down; he was exhausted. All the abuse his body sustained was catching up to him. After all, he was kidnapped, stabbed under the water, shot at close range, and thrown from a moving truck. That's a lot for a body to take and still be standing up. He doesn't expect his vision to start darkening and a part of him panics. Pain and darkness remind him of when he was captured and tortured all those years ago. Nuzo was there to save his ass back then, now he wondered who would be there to save it this time, probably Rick or TC. Maybe even Higgins but he wasn't getting out of this mess alone.

Magnum felt like he was slowly fading. His eyes went dark and his legs feel like they won't support him for long. He could hear the Ferrari in the distance but his body keeps getting heavier. He really needs to sit down or he's going to crash and hard.

"Thomas!" He knows that tone, Rick is worried.

"Rick, call an ambulance!" It can't be good if Higgins is screaming for help. She was always cool, calmed and collected. She dropped next to him and he let himself go into her arms. He didn't mean to, but at this point his body simply stopped obeying him. Her hand felt cool against his cheek. He was trying really hard to remain in control but everything was fuzzy. His whole body was on fire in the beginning but by now he was just numb, his limbs refused to cooperate. His heart rate was going up because he was panicking at the loss of sensation throughout his body. His left arm was useless, he wanted to stretch his legs but they wouldn't move the way he wanted them too and his back felt like it was drenched in sweat.

His eyes were rolling as he fought against the numbness. His legs kicked with no real force. "What" she whispered. She was not expecting him to just fall backwards into her hands. She was momentarily taken aback; Magnum looked vulnerable and it made her uncomfortable. He was many things, but vulnerable was not one of them. "Hang in there, Buddy." She heard Rick say as she checked Magnum over. His eyes were glassy and unfocused. He grunted and she assumed she was causing him pain as she tried to lay him flat on the ground. He slowly blinked. Unsurprisingly, his pulse was fast, his breathing was also coming short and quick, but his face was very warm and flustered.

She looked at his ugly Hawaiian shirt ruined by the ever growing stain on his shoulder. The blood on it was scarier than the print. She lifted him up with a little help from Rick to see if the bullet wound was a through and through. To their surprise there was another blood stain on the back of his shirt, just not from an exit wound like they were expecting. Apparently, the stitches from his previous attack ripped open with the sure struggle there must have been between him and Hannah.

By the time the ambulance got there, Magnum had completely lost his battle against consciousness. She and Rick had kept pressure on the wound to tried and slow down the bleeding. The paramedics took over the triage process taking vitals, placing an oxygen mask, bandaging the wounds and inserting an IV. The whole procedure was expertly done in a matter of minutes. They seemed preoccupied by the amount of blood there was on the ground and the fact that the wound would not stop bleeding no matter how hard Rick had been putting pressure on it. Magnum barely registered any movement and his face was looking devoid of any color. The paramedic quickly loaded him up and left them standing there.

Higgins just stared at the ambulance as it left. It was the first time she had seen Magnum in such a defenseless state. Even when he got hit by a car a few months ago, the man was as annoying as ever. Did not, would not, stop talking or displaying his charm for everyone to fall for. This time, from the moment she found him behind that truck she knew things were not as good. To her, he looked so hurt, and she knew he was hurting in more ways than one. As she held him in her arms, while he lay bleeding, shot by the woman she was quite positively sure he still loved, she saw Magnum in a new light. Since she met him and his friends, she heard bits and pieces about the hard life he was dealt. Today, she learned a lot more about Thomas that she expected and also saw just how broken he really was despite trying to cover it up with his t-shirts, worn cap and mischievous grin.

She looked over at Rick; he was just finishing his call to TC filling him on Magnum's status so he could meet them at the hospital. Katsumoto walked over to them and told them to go. As much as Magnum got under his skin, Katsumoto was not heartless. He knew they were needed at the hospital. He promised to meet them after the gold was moved from the street.

As they walked to the Ferrari, she took out her mobile and looked for Kumu's number.

The day was not over yet.
