Steven Universe

A New Warden

A/N: I dedicate this to Lapis Lazuli.

The ocean was as vast as space, with many mysteries that you couldn't begin to comprehend without extensive knowledge.

"Lapis," a male voice uttered in the deepest trenches of the sea. "Lapis Lazuli."

In the darkest trench possible, a large, coral-covered statue stood, chained to the surrounding area by large chains that looked as though they were made of dense ice. The statue was that of a large woman that appeared to have only arms as limbs, leaving out any feet.

And then, in an instant, the statue disappeared from the trench, leaving only its chains and the coral that covered it.

GASP! Lapis came to and found herself in a meadow with various wildflowers and small animals running around.

It was a beautiful setting, but Lapis was worried because she was herself again and not Malachite. This meant that Jasper was likely free and loose somewhere. And if so, she could be heading toward the Crystal Gems and Steven to get revenge on them.

"Jasper's in my custody, Lapis Lazuli," a male voice uttered from afar.

"Who's there?" Lapis demanded.

"I'm right behind you, Lapis Lazuli."

She turned around and saw a strange man standing in front of her, dressed in jeans and a black shirt. He looked similar to Steven, but only in appearance due to being human. There was something about him that seemed…ancient, similar to herself, but not so primitive, probably well-educated and versed in things she herself hadn't been versed in due to being out of place everywhere she went.

"Who are you?" She questioned.

"I am Brother Correction," he introduced himself to her.

"What are you?"

"I am many things. A guardian, a man, a miracle worker, an outcast…a relic…and the new warden of the Gem Jasper."

"What? No, no, I have to be the one to keep Jasper locked away. She gets loose, she'll go after Steven and…"

"Not as long as I keep watch over her, and I want to keep watch over her in place of you so you can go."

"But why?"

"I have versed myself in the fusions between Gems, and the one between you and Jasper, Malachite…is an unstable fusion due to one side struggling twenty-four/seven to keep the other side from getting loose, creating greater instability that is detrimental, both physically and mentally. Taking over for you will relieve you of this strain that will keep you from finding your place in the new world you're in."

"But…I have nowhere to go."

"Actually…you do, Lapis Lazuli. You just don't know it yet. Earth isn't a prison as you once believed it to be when the Diamonds left…and where you once resided isn't the same to you as it used to be thousands of years ago. Give it a chance, and you'll find that life there isn't as bad as you may think it is. You believed in Steven Universe, the hybrid between human and Gem. I'm asking you to believe in me, too. Give Earth a chance."

Brother Correction then conjured a small orb in his right hand and tossed it to her.

Lapis caught it and looked at it, seeing that Jasper was wandering around a vast meadow, similar to where they currently were, but it was most likely not where they were.

Rising from the water after what felt like a long time, Lapis Lazuli, free from the fusion between herself and Jasper, flew up and towards an island with a waterfall. For now, she just needed time to recover from the fusion and would contact Steven later.

"I didn't tell her about the Watermelon Stevens," Brother Correction sighed as he watched Lapis fly towards Mask Island.

A/N: The only benefit to this madness that envelops us is that I'm finding some time and motivation to work on my old works that needed to be worked on. I'm hoping that you enjoy this story once you read it and can simply imagine what could happen later.
