Chapter 1: Rising with the Sun

Location: East Vale [ River Palace]

Place: Xiao Long/ Rose apartment

Time: 0720 (Wednesday )

The scroll that sat on the small night stand began to blar an annoying tone that was guaranteed to wake her up. The young woman who the scroll belonged to reached out with her hand and picked it up. She looked at it for a few seconds before groaning in annoyance and looking at the flashing numbers. 0720 If she still lived with her parents she would be content to ignore it until 1130 since her first class on Tuesday wasn't until 1320. And if she wasn't sleeping she'd probably be having sex with her girlfriend that she had been with since the 10th grade.

But neither of those were an option at the moment.

Yang Xiao Long got up and yawned as she creaked her neck from one side to another. She looked around her room in the small two bedroom apartment that she was renting out. She got up and made her way to the bathroom. As she did she could smell the breakfast cooking. Yang smiled at this. Count on good old Ruby-ru to try for her sister.

Yang entered the bathroom and quickly brushed her teeth and took care of other morning business. Yang looked at herself in the mirror. Many of her... former friends told Yang that she had the looks to be a modal, the sense to be a bad comedian, and the skills to be a decent fighter. But all that was irreverent this early in the morning. Yang stood at 5'9" with a tone build with D-cup breasts, long tone legs, trim stomach, and a nice smackable behind if one could see it past her sun kissed lockes that seemed to get brighter the further down they went. Lavender eyes, wearing a black thong, and a white muscle shirt.

She walked out of the bathroom and into the kitchen. At the stove her her 8 year old sister. The only real joy left in Yang's life. Ruby Rose- Xiao Long. She was a real shrimp. Some people even mistake her for a 6 year old, shoulder length black hair with red tips and bangs hanging in her face. Wearing a red hoodie, black skirt, and red and black shoes.

Ruby turned to Yang and gave her a small smile. Yang felt her heart creak a bit at that smile. A smile she loved, a smile she promised to protect upon her parents graves.

"Morning Yang," said Ruby. "I made pancakes, coffee, eggs, and bacon. I also set aside some of that honey you like for our biscuits.

Yang smiled at her sister, before walking over and kissing her on the forehead. "Thanks Ru, but it's my job as an adult to take care of you," said Yang.

Ruby smiled at Yang, a million watt smile that could light up a dark room.

"We take care of each other," said Ruby.

The duo sat at their small table and ate as Yang quizzed Ruby on last nights homework. Ruby was a really smart kid. Hell she was already reading books that Yang had problems with in Middle school and even made a functioning laptop out of trash parts just a few months ago. Sure it took her a week to figure things out, but she was golden.

Yang looked at her watch and signed. "Great. Hey kiddo I have to get ready for work and I have to get you ready for school," said Yang.

Ruby nodded as Yang walked into her room and went to grab her clothes. It was a Yellow and Black shirt, and pulled on some skin tight pants. Lastly she grabbed her wallet and keys, before she walked out of her house with her sister in tow with her rose themed backpack. The duo lived on the second floor of the Baker Arms apartment building In Patch. A town of 30,000 people just a 20 minute drive from the City of Vale and the Famous Beacon Academy of Technologies. The walked out the building and over to Yang's car.

It wasn't anything fancy. Not like the motorcycle Yang use to own, but she gave that up once the... No she couldn't think about that. Once Ruby came to live with her. She took her bike sold it and got a decent car, nothing really fancy. She tried to sell their home, but due to specifics that she couldn't go into due to legal reasons she couldn't sell the house, but she couldn't live there at the moment, even though the Xiao Long- Rose sisters owned the farm house and the 15 acehrs of land it sat on.

Ruby hopped into the back of the car and buckled up as Yang started up the car and pulled into morning traffic. The drive to Ruby's elementary school was pretty quick. A five minute drive and a 15 minute walk when the weather was nice enough and Yang wasn't in a hurry. Once they pulled up outside of the school Ruby unbuckled herself before she kissed Yang on the cheek and jumped out the car, before she got up to her friends and began to converse with a girl with rabbit ears and a girl with orange hair. Ruby's only real friends, the only kids who didn't bully her or judge her for being raised by her sister and not her parents. As she watched Ruby go in she saw Ruby's homeroom teacher smile at Yang and wave. Yang waved back, before she pulled off to head to work. As she drove with the music up she pulled over as she saw a pair of police cars zoom by lights flashing...

Flashing red and blue lights... Pain in her right arm and shoulder... Ruby crying on her shoulder with blood dripping from her head... loud voices arguing... all white lights... a hand holding her own... more loud voices... beeping!

"NO!" Yang screamed as she came crashing back to reality.

The car behind her was beeping at her. She narrowed her eyes and gave the guy the bird. She cranked up the music. Her hand shot to the glove box and she pulled out a small pill bottle and popped it, before downing two pills. Once she was done with those she put them back and wiped her face.

"I don't need this shit right now," Yang thought to herself as she pulled up to the Cafe.

The Cafe was in a fairly busy part of the town. In the perfect zone between Beacon College and the Business district. Yang worked from 9-2 since she had to pick up ruby from school. It was only thanks to the fact that her boss was so understanding that Yang was able to work a 33 hour week with a 40 hour a week salary.

Parking her care and walking in 20 minutes before her shift Yang smiled at her co-workers, before she got to work.

As the hours ticked by College students, businessmen, and people who liked the cafe came and went. A lot of cute girls and cute guys who often flirted with Yang and tipped pretty well. Before Yang knew it Her shift was over. As she made her way to the door it opened and she nearly bumpped into the person.

"Sorry about th," started Yang

"Hello Yang," said the person making Yang freeze as she got a chance to look at the person who she nearly bumped into.

"Blake," said Yang

Blake was a beautiful woman. She was only a few months younger then Yang was as was the daughter of the Prime Minister of Menagarie. She stood at 5'6 with a slender almost skinny frame, C-cup breasts and a large ass that was attached to mile long legs, black hair that went to the middle of her back, amber eyes that were slightly narrowed in slight annoyance and dismissal, two black cat ears, wearing a black tank top, white shorts, black stockings, and heels.

"Hey babe... come on we have to hurry or we're going to be late for dinner with you mum and da," said a girl appearing next to her from the car...

"The girl her skin has somewhat darker spots on her arms, legs, stomach and face. Her brown hair is tied back in a ponytail that curls at the end like a chameleon's tail, and her eyes are a light gray with a faintly bluish tint, she stood at 5'4" with B-cup breasts and a pat rear end. She wore a short black leather jacket with two tails, a gold zipper, buckle, buttons to keep the sleeves rolled up in place, and a white interior. She also wears a gray short-sleeved shirt that exposes her midriff, maroon jean pants, black sneakers with white mid-wedges and two straps and a black matching wristband

"Who's this luv?" asked the girl.

"I'm an old Friend of.." started Yang

"Ex... She's my Ex Ilia," said Blake cutting Yang off.

"Oh," said Ilia looking between her girlfriend and her ex. "Are there problems here?"

Yang sighed. "Look i'm not looking for a fight or drama Blake. I'm just getting off work and i'm about to go pick up my sister from school," said Yang as she rubbed her head.

"That's fine," said Blake as she walked into the cafe.

As Yang was walking away she heard Blake's last comment almost as if she was saying it right in her face.

"When you see my slut Kali tell her I said I hope she chokes on a whatever dick she's currently sucking,"

Yang walked though the school as parents were picking up their kids. Yang took a breath as she walked into the room as saw that Kali was reading from a book. Yang herself settled in the back with a few other parents to listen in. The woman reading was the teacher of the kids and Ex-wife of Prime Minister Ghira Belladonna, Kali Nightingale formerly Belladonna. Kali despite being in her mid 40's was an absolutely beautiful woman. She stood at 5'6", C-cup breasts, and long legs. It was easy to see where Blake got her looks from especially with Kali's amber eyes that radiated kindness. She wore a simple black and purple Kimono with white orchids on it and a white obi sash and saddles. Often times it was easy to forget that Mistral culture influenced Menagarie greatly.

"... And so with a mighty swing of her Blade the Warrior princess aimed for her enemies neck intent on ending his dominion of her kingdom once and for all, but stopped herself at the last minute. Ruby dear can you read the next lines along with... Neptune. Ruby as the Princess and Neptune as the villain.

A boy with blue hair groaned hearing this. "Miss Kali Do I look like a villain to you?" asked the young boy trying to be charming.

Kali laughed. "If you keep trying to get out of your math homework you will be now read the pair pair of you," said the teacher with a grin.

A few parents and students chuckled as Neptune blushed. Ruby and Neptune did a cute back and forth. The duo finished the story with Ruby's last line.

"Life is life. And I will never use my blade to s-sev," started Ruby as she narrowed her eyes.

"Sever Ruby," said Kali with a smile.

"Thank you. Sever the line of my brothers, sisters, and cousins. De-despite what you have done I will always love you as family," finished Ruby.

Kali, Yang, students and parents gave small claps for the duo making Ruby blush and Neptune grin like a loon. Kali spent the rest of the class discussing things about the books. The bell rang ending the talks. Kali smiled at her students.

"Alright you have your home work assignments for the day. They are all due to me by tomorrow morning. Remember how we began the day and how we end the day. Good bye and good day," said Kali as kids collected their stuff and went to the parents.

A pair of single moms caught Yang's ear.

"Good bye and good day. What an annoying bitch," whispered one mom.

"I know right. Probably why her husband kicked her to the curve," said the other woman.

"Nah. She was unfaithful. Apparently she fucked a few men during her tenue as Prime Minister Belladonna's wife,"

"As if you dick chasing hussies have a right to talk with the way you eye up Security Officer Jaune," harshly reprimanded Yang hushing the duo as they looked at her.

Yang!" yelled Ruby rushing up to her sister and hugging her.

Yang smirked as she rubbed Ruby's head. "Hey kiddo. Were you good?" asked Yang.

Ruby nodded her head quickly at her sister. As Kali walked up. Kali graced the younger woman with a smile. Yang knew Kali from before she became a teacher. She knew her as her ex's mom. Ruby knew her as Aunt Kali since Kali had watched Ruby several times over the last 6 years. That ended almost two years ago when Blake dumped her and denounced Kali as anything more then the hole she came out of.

"Hey Kali," said Yang hugging the Older woman.

Kali returned the hug. "Hey yourself Yang You look good. Said Kali releasing the hug.

"Thanks. I tend to go to the gym," said Yang

"Are you and Ruby good?" asked Kali a little worried about their living situation.

"We're fine. Mr. Hazel is a good guy and looks after us," said Yang with a smile.

Kali sighed. "Yang I understand that, but I worry about you and Ruby living where you do. I know the rent is reasonable and all, but that part of the city worries me. I'd wish you'd let me pay for you college tuition. You were a semester away from a degree in fitness. Oum knows that the settlement I got in the divorce is more then i'll ever use and Blake doesn't want anything from me," said Kali.

Yang smiled. "I know it's all bad right now Kali, but i'm just a few credits off. Even if I've been out of school for over a year the education is still there. My credits carry over so long as I jumped back in before the the start of the Fall Semester of next year. And I managed to find a small business degree plan on line that I'm currently doing. It's a single semester, but it's showing how to set up payrolls, supply...

"Yang your doing it again," groaned out the little red head.

Yang blushed hearing this. When she got nervous she starting to blurt stuff out without a filter. It was something she had done since she was a kid. Anytime she felt that she needed to explain anything she would go off the cuff and just start talking.

"Well I won't hold you, but Yang you have my number if you need to contact me," said Kali.

Ruby and Yang nodded to each other as they. The duo left the school and took time to rest, play games, and do Ruby's homework which took about 30 minutes. Once Ruby was asleep at 2000 Yang sent out a text to the local gang, Hazel, and her uncle letting them know that she was off to work and that Ruby was in the apartment. Yang sighed as she went though her closet and changed her clothes. She changed into a black mini-skirt, a white tube top with suspenders keeping her skirt up, a black thong, and a pair of thigh high black heeled boots.

Yang walked out her car and saw two of the men she knew to be in the local gang. Both of them waved at Yang who waved back. While it didn't seem like it, she was an honorary member of the gang since she saved the leader's life. It also helped that since she was just an honorary member and not a real gang banger she and her sister were protected while in their territory from all manner of crime.

As Yang hopped into the car she turned it on and drove the 25 minutes to her second job. A Job Kali knew about, a job her uncle knew about, Hazel knew about. Everyone knew about this job, but Ruby. As Yang pulled up to her second job she looked at the neon signs, the large building had several cars there already.

The Pleasure Dome, Junior's Palace.

Yang sighed. She hadn't even walked into that hellhole and her night was already looking bad.
