Chapter 1

Long time, no see

A door opened in a small, dark room. Dim lights flickered on as a man walked into the room. A large monitor extended from a wall in front of him, and a keyboard materialized. Pictures spread across the screen. All of the pictures had a blue animal on them. The man stroked him mustache as he examined the pictures on the screen. Each picture scrolled across the screen in a slow motion as he studied the creature they showed. Looking down to the keyboard, the man brought up three videos. They showed a close-up of the creature in the pictures. A blue hedgehog was shown running around a small town hall area, destroying crab and bee shaped robots. The man smiled evilly as he gathered the data from the footage and downloaded it onto a disk drive. He left the monitor and walk to a big glass cylinder on the wall. A shape was barely visible inside tube. The man placed the disk drive into a small console on the tube. It lit up, and the shape became clear. "Soon… you will be ready. My ultimate creation." The man laughed evilly. "You will destroy that blue nuisance once and for all." Miles away, the "Blue nuisance" in question sneezed. "Sonic! Look out!" Sonic turned and cartwheeled to the side. A Buzz-Bomber shot past him and crashed into a tree. "Thanks, Tails. It's been so long since Eggman attacked." Sonic dodged another Buzz-Bomber, this time landing on its back. He steered it around and flew it into a Moto-Bug. Sonic heard Amy Rose's voice on his communicator. "I wonder why Eggman is going back to his 1st generation Badniks…" Sonic flipped off a Crab-Meat and kicked its missile back at it. "I don't know, but it makes me feel nostalgic for some reason. Tails, how's things in the sky?" The kitsune grunted as a Buzz-Bomber shot the hull of the Tornado. "Not so great! I need a little help up here!" Amy side-stepped a Moto-Bug and threw her hammer in the air. Sonic jumped off another Buzz-Bomber and caught the hammer. He jumped again and spun at the Buzz-Bombers attacking Tails. "Hold on, Tails!" Sonic swung the hammer at the Badniks and landed in the wing of the plane. Amy held out her hand, and the hammer disappeared. She pulled it back out of Hammerspace just in time to destroy a Moto-Bug charging at her. "Is it just me, or do these things seem stronger and more organized to you?" Sonic nodded and leaped off the plane. He landed next to her and tackled a Buzz-Bomber. "You're right. They feel more coordinated than usual. That's strange. It's the first Eggman attack in months, he's using his old Badniks, and they're packing a real punch. I don't think I've ever had this much trouble with these models." A group of Cater-Killers made their way towards them with surprising speed. Sonic flipped into a tree for cover, and Amy dove behind a small pile of rubble. "How many more of these things are there?" Sonic shouted as he jumped from tree to tree. Tails grunted again as another Buzz-Bomber blasted his hull. "I don't know! Something's jamming the radar, so I can't scan the area!" Tails divebombed as a flock of Balkiry flew at his engine. Amy ran out from her cover and threw her hammer at the Buzz-Bombers attacking Sonic. "Where in the world is Knuckles?" "He said he's too busy guarding the Master Emerald! Eggman's absence was making him nervous, like he was trying to law low and take the Emerald when his guard down." Sonic agreed as he caught Amy's hammer again. "Come to think of it, that does sound like an Eggman thing to do. Knuckles may not be too paranoid. Let's hurry with these guys and head over to Angel Island." Sonic threw Amy's hammer back to her. "That is, if we can finish these guys in time. It's like there's an endless supply of them. Eggman sure has been busy." They spent the next half hour destroying robots, but every time one went down, another two took its place. "Tails! I need you to find out where these guys are coming from!" "Easier said than done, Sonic. Something's jamming the signal. I can't pinpoint the origin." Sonic cursed to himself and punched his fist through a Buzz-Bomber that was flying at him. Then he got an idea. "Tails, do you still have that chaos emerald?" Tails reached for a small compartment under his seat and pulled out a brilliantly green gem. He tossed it over the side, and Sonic caught it. "Good thing I've been practicing… Tails! Amy! Get cover, now!" Amy jumped into the passenger seat of the Tornado as it flew by, and Tails pulled up as fast as he can. Sonic held the gem in front of him and closed his eyes, and it started glowing. "What is he doing?" Amy turned and saw what Sonic was doing. Sonic took a deep breath and sighed. "CHAOS BLAST!" A green shockwave spread over the Badniks as they were all destroyed. Tails just barely managed to get out of the blast radius as the shockwave disappeared. "What the heck was that?" Amy asked as she uncovered her eyes. Tails divebombed again as he flew down to check on Sonic. He landed the plane, and Amy jumped out to Sonic. He fell to the floor as she approached him, and she grabbed him. "Sonic! Are you okay? Sonic?" Sonic let out a low breath as he looked up at them. "S-Shadow makes it look so easy…" Sonic coughed, and Tails ran over to him with a fist aid kit. "Tails, I'm fine. Just a little tired. That used up a lot of energy." "Speaking of energy…" Tails muttered as he turned towards the remains of a Moto-Bug. He fished out a canister of glowing energy, and turned to Sonic to show him. "I think I know why these Badniks were stronger and faster than usual." Sonic turned and saw the canister in his hands. "Chaos drives. He really is stepping up his game." Amy grabbed the Chaos Drive and examined it. "That explains why Eggman used the 1st generation Badniks. They already had life force drainers to power them. He just replaced the animals with these. It saved him time and it was easier." Sonic grunted as he sat up. "I gotta hand it to the Doc. They really gave us a hard time. He must be serious now. Let me see it." Sonic stood up, and Amy handed Chaos Drive. "If I try hard enough, I can use this energy to track down the rest. That'll lead us straight to him." Tails jumped in the Tornado. "Good idea, Sonic! Wait… I just realized something! The chaos energy must have been what was jamming my radar." Sonic nodded and put the Chaos Drive in his hammerspace. He tossed the emerald back to Tails, and they took off.

Knuckles sat on the lower step of the shrine. He took a calm breath and sighed. Sitting down all day was getting boring. He knew he had a duty to protect the Master Emerald, but he hadn't gone treasure hunting in weeks. If it were any normal day, he would probably be somewhere down in Hydrocity clearing out the remaining Choppers from the waters. But, he was getting paranoid. He hadn't heard from Eggman in months, and he was getting worried. Knowing Eggman, he was probably waiting until Knuckles let his guard down so he could swipe the emerald. So, Knuckles sat himself down on that step and had not moved. He directed all of his senses to his hearing. He did his best to stay awake, and he sat in the same position. If anyone were to walk up to him, they'd be under the impression that he was a statue. The sun moved down slowly towards the horizon as Knuckles rubbed his eyes. Deciding that a small nap wouldn't hurt anyone, he turned to his side and laid down. He closed his eyes and immediately fell asleep. Next thing he knew, a loud noise woke him up. He shot up and saw an explosion a couple yards in front of him. He shielded his eyes as the explosion drew closer. He dove behind a pillar and hid behind it as the fire flew past him. Panicking, he turned to run to the Master Emerald but stopped in his tracks. A giant metal claw grabbed the emerald and began retracting. Knuckles looked up, and his worst fears came true. The second he let his guard down, Eggman flew over and grabbed the emerald. Before he could stop him, a pack of Rhinobots charged at him from the bushes Knuckles fended them off and tried to jump at Eggman, but he was too late. He flew away from the floating island as fast as he could and disappeared. Shouting, and cursing, Knuckles destroyed the last of the Badniks and glided after Eggman.

The Tornado landed on a small island in the middle of the ocean. Sonic, Tails, and Amy jumped from the plane and began walking into the thick of the palm trees. "Are you sure you felt chaos energy here? This place looks deserted…" Sonic sighed as he pushed aside stray palm fronds. "Look, I said I'd try. I'm not really good at this chaos stuff. The best I can do his harness their energy and use Chaos Control, or go super. Now, I can use Chaos Blast, but I've only used it once. To be honest, I'll be surprised if Eggman's actually here. Wait a minute…" Sonic pushed aside more palm fronds and saw a large door on the ground. "Surprise!" Amy said sarcastically. Sonic groaned and began to pry open the door. He managed to get a small opening, and they climbed inside. Tails lowered them down and he felt them touch solid ground. They were in a dimly lit hall with many doors on the wall. "Eggman doesn't seem to be home. Weird…" Sonic whispered to them as they checked the rooms. "Guys! Check this out!" Tails shouted from one of the rooms. Sonic and Amy ran to the room he was in and gasped. they were in a large warehouse full to the brim with Chaos Drives. They wandered down the aisles, admiring the many colors. A noise from down the hall caught Sonics attention, and he left the room. "Well Sonic, I guess you are pretty good at this chaos stuff after all, huh?" Amy turned to look at Sonic, but didn't see him. "Sonic?" Amy and Tails left the room and saw Sonic walking down the hall. "Sonic? Where are you going?" Sonic spun around and put his finger over his mouth, signaling them to be quiet. He continued to walk down the hall and stopped in front of the last door. He poked his head into the doorway and walked in. Amy and Tails walked in behind him and looked around. It was a small room with a single screen on the wall opposite of the door. To the right side of the wall, a large glass tube glowed and whirred. Sonic walked over to the tube and nocked on its glass. "It looks like there's something in here. Tails, come check this out." Tails walked over the cylinder and studied it. "It looks like some sort of test tube." Without warning, two red lights blinked on inside the tube, and an arm smashed the glass and grabbed Tails by the throat. It threw him across the room, and the thing inside the tube shattered all the glass. Sonic got a good look at what was inside and gritted his teeth. His metal doppelganger stepped out of the tube and charged at him. Sonic quick-stepped to the right and dodged Metal Sonic as he came back around. Amy shrieked and jumped to the side. She crawled to the other side of the room and curled into a ball. Sonic had forgotten that ever since Metal first kidnapped her, she became utterly terrified of him. If they were in a battle with Eggman, the second Metal showed up, Amy would freeze. Sonic growled and dashed at Metal. He dodged Sonics attack and slammed his metal fist into his gut. Sonic coughed up blood and was kicked into the tube. Sonic slammed into the back of the tube and fell on all fours. Metal rushed towards him again and grabbed the back of his neck. He threw him across the room and into the hall. Sonic twisted in mid air and landed on the hallway wall. He launched off of it and tackled Metal. He slammed Metal into the screen, causing sparks to go everywhere. "Amy! Grab Tails and get out of here!" Eyes wide, Amy crawled to Tails and ran out of the room with him. Metal saw them leaving and tossed Sonic off of him. He blasted into the hall, and Sonic sprinted after him. Amy managed to activate the elevator, and she was lifted out of the base. Before Metal could fly up after her, Sonic leapt forward and grabbed his legs. Sonic's weight dragged Metal down before he flew through the bottom of the elevator. Outside, Amy buckled Tails into the Tornado and jumped into the back seat. She hid there until Sonic and Metal Sonic busted through the opening. Sonic flew into the sky, and Metal launched him higher by kneeing him in the gut. He sped above Sonic and chop-kicked him in the back, launching him at the ground. Before he made contact, however, Metal flew down and spin-kicked him into a tree. The force of the kick sent Sonic through the trees and onto the edge of the island. Sonic stood up, coughing, and rubbed his back. Metal sped towards him again, but Sonic was ready this time. He dashed out of the way and ran. Metal did a U-turn and followed him. Getting what he was hoping for, Sonic sped up. Getting to the edge of the water, he closed his eyes and ran off the beach. Opening his eyes, he saw that he was running on the water. Laughing aloud, he ran faster. Metal followed him, and Sonic slowed so he could catch up. When Metal was just about to tackle him, Sonic used the force of a wave to jump above him and slam him into the water. Metal sunk down into the darkness of the ocean, and Sonic turned to go back to shore. Then he realized he was falling towards the water. No land, nothing to build up speed, nothing. Just water. Sonic had not accounted for that. Hoping that Tails was awake and flying towards him, Sonic plummeted into the water. He thrashed around madly, trying to stay above the water. He started sinking, and the last thing he saw was a hand reaching towards him. Then he blacked out.

Ha! I think I nailed this first chapter. It's way better then the first chapter to Guilt trip, that's for sure. If you read the description, then you know that this is a sequel to Sonic: Guilt Trip. Also, it takes place a year after story as well. For this story, I'm trying to take more time working on the chapters, so they aren't that short and so that they have a bit more filler. I have also decided that I want to do a trilogy. Each story will take place a year apart. Well, that's it for me right now. I hope you enjoyed this first chapter. I've a lot more time to work on this chapter, due to the fact that… well… you know. Also, I find that listening to MAX 98.3 helps me focus, so that's nice. BTW, tomorrow's my birthday, so that's fun.
