Before this story begins, I would like to give a massive shoutout to Tumblr blog bixlasagna, who is a very good friend of mine, for helping me out a ton with this AU idea! Its basically a 50's/jazz-age Snowbarry AU - what more could ye want? XD

Hope y'all enjoy this! :)

(also. Fifties slang galore. But I pulled it from the internet so it may not be the most accurate lollll)

Dr. Caitlin Snow liked to consider herself a well-rounded woman.

She worked on the weekdays as a doctor at the Star-Central Hospital, working with people she'd see here and there; but she wasn't really making any friends at the hospital.

However... she had a "secret" life. One where she had more friends than she knew what to do with.

This job was on Friday nights and the weekends at a local jazz bar in Star-Central City, where her best work friend, Cisco Ramon, also happened to work on weekends. The jazz bar was one of the hottest attractions in the city - which is really saying something, considering all the places you could go to see where Al Capone and his men conducted business with fellow mobsters.

Cisco's job there was as a saxophone player for the stage band that provided entertainment for all the patrons who would watch. And Caitlin was part of the band too!

Although... not in the typical sense, as you'll learn in a bit.

There was also Kamilla, their flirty pianist; Chester, their drummer; and Ralph, their bass player. They were a happy group of campers who just liked making music. And despite the fact that Harrison "Nash" Wells, the sleazy and slightly weird bar owner, could get a little annoying sometimes, what with his multiple personalities and all that (to this day, it was still unknown whether that was medical or emotional), he was still a nice fella all around.

She was actually on her way to the bar right now - it was about 5:00, and in thirty minutes, the bar would be open for the night; her shift lasted from 5:30 to 10. The bar was within walking distance, so there was no need to waste any gasoline.

When she arrived, she took her key out of her purse (which had way too much stuff in it already, honestly), she unlocked the bar door and walked in. The bell dinged, and she walked over to a vacant table. Cisco was by the lounge, polishing his saxophone as he usually did.

Caitlin then slipped her long dark blue coat off, and revealed her crystal white flapper dress with tassels galore.

Caitlin was the band dancer, yes - but there's more to it than any old dancer. You see, every bar in the local area had their own dancer; flappers weren't as popular as they were during the Roaring 20's, but still, they were quite popular in New York, and by that, also in Star Central.

She then pulled out two black flapper shoes, but she had gotten creative with them. She had put taps on the bottom of them; Caitlin was the band's tap dancer. And she loved it.

"What's buzzin', Caitlin?" Cisco asked, walking over and startling her a little bit, nearly causing her to yelp. "Anything exciting happen with you before your shift ended?"

"Oh, not much," Caitlin sighed, putting her headdress on - a wig chop might do her some good, she thought to herself... "Same old, same old. That Ramsey's getting quite snobbish, I tell you... I mean, give a lady her space every now and then; it doesn't seem like such a hard thing to do, does it?"

"Fixing to pop a blood vessel, or already has?" the saxophone player laughed.

Caitlin giggled. "Well, either way, I've been going over this routine for long enough. Tonight, I'm just a classy-chassis in tap-top shape!"

"...Wow, that was awful," Cisco chuckled, before patting Caitlin on the shoulder. "See you in fifteen, Caitlin; never fail to brighten my day."

"Likewise Cisco," she smiled.

She then slipped on her shoes, went over bits and pieces of her routine in her head (she mostly winged it on stage anyway), and then waited until Cisco gave the call for the band members to come on stage. And, after a few minutes of waiting, he did just that.

Giving his mandatory nightly introduction, Caitlin bounced up from her seat and began walking off to the side of the stage.

"...And now, please give a warm welcome to everyone's favorite tap dancer - that's not just an expression either, I hear club chatter - Miss Caitlin Snow!"

Caitlin hopped onto the stage, giving a little wave to the crowd of bar attendees. She took a deep breath, composed herself, and waited for the applause to die down... showtime.

The music kicked in slowly, but once Caitlin joined in, it picked up very quickly - as did most things when she tap danced along to them. (another story) It was not just an extra source of income for her...

It was a source of joy.

Caitlin walked down from the stage after about three more songs worth of tap dancing, and cheers were met all around. As usual, the band members applauded their exiting dancer, who wouldn't be returning for another hour or so. Wiping her face off with her glove end, she took a deep breath as she headed over to the bar, amidst all the complements she received along the way, from lads and lassies alike.

She took her stand behind the bar, filling in for the bartender who was out sick. Wally West was supposed to show up within the hour and take over for her for the rest of the night so she could do what she loved most on stage, but that kid didn't ever seem to be punctual, so she wasn't holding her breath.

"Hey bean!" a familiar feminine voice said.

"Oh, hello Sue," smiled Caitlin, recognizing her friend - and Ralph's fiancee - instantly. "What can I get you? Usual?"

"You know it," Sue said, smiling. "Gotta say, mighty fine hoofing you did up there. Even the fair ladies of this bar seemed to thoroughly enjoy it."

"Aww, stop you; I aim to make people happy," Caitlin smiled warmly, whipping up her friend's drink.

Before Sue could make another comment, however, Ralph stepped up to center stage. "Lads and lassies, we've got another very special treat for you all tonight - a new singer's arrived in town, and he'd like to do a little number with us! Hands together, one and all, for Barry Allen!"

Everyone applauded at the newcomer, who seemed to have gotten the zorros, but the huge smile on his face quickly dissipated all fears from the audience that he'd be a stuttering mess.

"Look at that flutter bum," Sue whispered to Caitlin, "he seems cute, doesn't he?"

"U-Uhm... y-yes, he d-does," Caitlin admitted through a stutter.

What had caught Caitlin off guard was how cute he was. Like, she hadn't felt this way since... well, since her boyfriend was killed in a lab tragedy. But back to the point, she felt butterflies in her stomach - butterflies! Her feet were also making little taps nervously, and she felt her hands holding one another to keep them from moving incoherently.

Sue, meanwhile, was fully engrossed at Caitlin - Barry was saying something on stage, but Caitlin's blush was very evident (and far more entertaining at the moment to her); not being a particular fan of the stuff, she only wore the faintest of makeup too, so it was very evident.

"Seem to fancy something, Cait?" asked Sue.

Caitlin didn't respond.

And then... Barry started singing. He was singing "When You Wish Upon a Star" by Cliff Edwards - a song from the previous decade, but a beloved one nonetheless. Needless to say, most of the club visitors were thoroughly impressed - not the least of which was Caitlin.

She was leaning over on her elbows, hand on her cheeks, and a light sigh came out of her mouth. Sue, meanwhile, was trying her hardest not to laugh at her friend's clear eyes of love she was extending towards Mr. Allen.

When his song ended, everyone gave a very generous round of applause to the young man - Caitlin was not the least of them. She even made a "woo!", which was a really big complement around this particular bar. Barry took a bow, and then quickly exited the stage to hand the mic back over to Ralph.

"Boy, wish I could get a chance to talk with him, eh Caitlin?" Sue teased.

"S-Stop it Sue," Caitlin said, giggling nervously.

"Oh - is he coming over here? Would you look at that!" the ex-con smiled happily. "Oh-dammit, he's getting handshakes. Well, you have a few moments to prepare I guess."

"Hush," Caitlin seethed, holding a fake smile.

There weren't that many seats at the bar that were currently occupied, as most patrons were currently enjoying their evening supper at one of the dining tables, so hopefully Barry wouldn't choose the one that was currently available next to Sue...

Oh crap, he totally was gonna choose the one next to Sue.

"Sue! Coincidence running into you here!" Barry smiled.

"Hey there Barr!" Sue said, getting up and hugging her friend. "What a voice that was! Ralphie wasn't lying when he said you were a stellar singer."

"Aww, thanks a plenty, Sue," Barry smiled, taking his seat. Caitlin had since turned around to idly eye the several drinks on the bar shelves, finding them much more interesting (and a good distraction) from the conversation currently ensuing behind her.

"Oh, by the way," Sue continued, "there's someone I would like you to meet..."

"Dammit Sue," Caitlin thought.

She turned around, and smiled happily, trying to ignore that smug smirk on her "friend"'s face. (she'd always be her friend, but dang she was pushing it!) "H-Hello Bar-Mr, uh-Mr. Allen!" she said. "Can-Can I get you something to drink?"

"Oh, hello," Barry smiled. "And don't worry, Barry is just fine, Ms..."

"Snow, Caitlin Snow," Caitlin said. "B-But Caitlin is fine too!"

"Well, thank you, C-Caitlin," Barry smiled. "And um... just a shot of Brandy, that'll be fine, please."

"Coming right up," she said, turning her attention back to the drinks. "So far so good," she thought.

"Oh, would you look at that," Sue said, looking up to the look her fiance was giving her. "It appears the stage calls my presence... oh well. Behave yourselves, you two!" And with that, like a thief, she was gone as quick as she had came. Caitlin cursed inwardly, but Barry didn't seem to care too much about being left alone with the beautiful bartender.

"So, uhm... think you'll be back anytime soon?" Caitlin asked, handing him back his shot glass. "You, uhm... y-you have a really good singing voice."

"Oh, y-you think so?" Barry asked, downing his shot. "Well, thank you so much! I only guess its fair for me to say - you are quite the tapper. I should know that it takes ankles of steel to do so in those shoes, too!"

"Y-You took tap?" asked Caitlin, shocked that she actually had something in common with him - it usually didn't go this well for her...

"For a while, yes," Barry said. "Its still in me, but I haven't done it in so long. Especially not to your level, you're pure class and talent on stage."

Caitlin blushed. "W-Well, uhm, t-thank you... thank you very much, Mr. Al-Barry."

He raised his empty glass, and then politely asked for another. She gladly refilled it, and couldn't help but feel like... maybe, just maybe, Sue had done her a favor here. This was actually going really well.

"W-Will you be performing any more tonight?" Barry asked.

"I should, yes," Caitlin said. "My fill-in, Wally West, is supposed to be here soon, but he seems to be running late..."

"Ah, that's my brother for you," Barry laughed. "I swear, that kid needs super speed to be punctual sometimes."

"He's your brother?" Caitlin asked. "Adoptive, thanks to the Wests," Barry clarified. "Took me in at a young age. Believe it or not, it was Joe that enrolled me in singing classes - claimed I had something special, though I don't think so."

Caitlin giggled. "Well... I personally think that Mr. West was quite correct."

Barry was a bit taken aback, but in a very good way.

"I do hope we'll be seeing each other more, Caitlin," said Barry. "I believe this is the start of a remarkable friendship."

"As do I," said Caitlin with a smile. "And, uhm... i-if you like... y-you can call me Cait. My friends do, anyway."

Barry smiled, and nodded happily.

They both continued chatting, and after a while when Caitlin returned to the stage to continue her dancing, Barry found his eyes glued to her... he just couldn't shake off the feeling that there was something deeper brewing in his stomach...

Oh... oh gosh...

Were those feelings?
