As the days counting to Friday came and went, Gabriel worked closely with Nathalie to make sure that Emilie would be given the proper memorial she deserved. Just because she's no longer here physically, doesn't mean she is gone forever. He would always remember Emilie, and cherish her, but sometimes, loving someone means letting them go. She deserved to rest peacefully, not be part of some evil scheme of his to bring her back, especially if that means putting their son's life at risk. She wouldn't want that for him. It was finally Friday morning. Gabriel had been not looking forward to this day. He had opted to wear a black suit and tie on this day, as opposed to his normal white suit and kerchief, and they were due at the church soon.
"Sir, it's almost time to go. Please come out." Nathalie said, as she opened the door for him. She had chosen to wear something different- she wore a black dress, halter necked and sleeveless- that came down to just below the middle of her thigh. It also had a satin belt tied around her waist. She chose to wear black shoes with a small heel as well. Gabriel emerged from his office, and looks to Nathalie briefly, perhaps blushing a little as he gets a good look at her outfit. He sees Adrien, dressed in his suit, and the rest of the staff waiting for him. The boy was looking a bit down, as Gabriel had expected. He approaches his son, and puts a hand on his shoulder. "Are you ready to go, Adrien?" Gabriel asks, working on trying to sound less harsh.
The boy nodded slowly, not saying much. Nathalie steps ahead to open the door for her boss and his son as they exit first. She follows behind them, where their bodyguard was awaiting them. In a surprising turn of events, Adrien opened the car door, and seated himself first, by the window. Gabriel and Nathalie sat next to him, as they began to head to the cathedral. Thank goodness it wasn't too long of a ride, because Gabriel found himself being uncomfortable by the silence. Adrien was looking out the window, not saying a word. Nathalie, more or less, was doing the same as Adrien.
As the pulled up to the large cathedral, Nathalie exited first, standing off to the side as Gabriel and Adrien exited the limo. She closed the limo door behind them. As they entered the grand cathedral, they stopped in the foyer. They waited for the rest of their guests, who entered shorty after. Marinette and her family, Alya, Nino, Chloè and her family, Luka and Juleka, Rose, Alix, Kagami and her mother, and of course, Aunt Amelie and Felix, all the way from London. As the adults were talking to Nathalie and Gabriel, the kids, minus Felix, were talking to Adrien, before they all gave him a group hug. The group of people then proceeded to enter the nave, filling up just a few pews in the church. Laying at the very front, was the body of Emilie Agreste. She was laid in a glass coffin, looking as though she was just asleep... though the life in her left long ago.
Before the service started, Gabriel rose from where he sat, and made his way to the glass coffin. Nathalie had the sudden urge to follow him… and he didn't seem to mind. He look down and closes his eyes. His hand rested on the glass, as his eyes opened to look down at her. Nathalie watched, and gently laid a hand on his shoulder. She was trying her best to hide her own sadness from him. As the service was starting, they returned to their seats. Through the service, though, Adrien noticed a different side of his dad, and Nathalie for that matter. Through his own tears and sadness, he was able to see them actually displaying a small amount of emotion. He saw Nathalie leaning against his dad, and his dad's arm was wrapped around her shoulders. During the internment in the church's cemetery, Adrien swore he caught a glimpse of them holding hands, discreetly, of course, though Adrien was none the wiser to what was happening… and he was right when he assumed it previously- his dad and Nathalie were in love. He was going to confront him, and get him to say it.
Back at the Agreste Mansion, everyone had gathered for the reception- there was lots of food to be eaten, including pain du chocolat, which was Emilie's favorite. Now that he can see that his dad was alone, Adrien turned to his friends and stood from his chair, "I'll be right back, guys," and off he went, walking towards his father.
"Father?" Adrien called, as Gabriel turned his attention to his son.
"Yes Adrien?"
"...Are you in love with Nathalie?"
Oh God, not this again. Gabriel pinched the bridge of his nose, annoyed that he was being pressed about this yet again. "Adrien, how many times have I told you, no, and that no one can-"
"I know, I know, no one can replace Mom… but loving someone else isn't replacing Mom. And besides, don't you think she'd want you to be happy?"
"Well… I suppose…"
"And does Nathalie make you happy?"
Gabriel looked over to Nathalie, who was on her own, just enjoying one of the many delicious pastries available. He turns back to his son, a small smile on his face. "Happier than I've been in a long time."
Hearing that caused Adrien to smile. Even though his father isn't always kind and understanding to him… he just wants him to be happy. "I saw you two holding hands other earlier… and I can tell you love her."
"...Why should I tell her? There's just somethings she's better off not knowing."
"Come on, Father, please, just go tell her..." Adrien attempts to push his dad in Nathalie's direction.
Gabriel gave in, though it was more like his son boosted his confidence enough to do it. He approaches Nathalie, who turned toward him as he was walking over to him. He had grabbed her arm and pulled her just out of eyesight of everyone else. She wasn't really sure what to say, as he had pulled her out of the room where all their guests were mingling. To say the very least, she was confused. He stopped and then let go of her arm, turning towards her.
"Sir… is there something you-" She couldn't even finish her question before she found herself pulled into a kiss by him, arms wrapped around her tightly. Actions spoke louder than words, and that was certainly the case right now. Though thoroughly shocked, she did return his kiss, hands holding his face gently. He was fueled by the boost of confidence he had gained, desire, passion and love. After a moment, they separated from each other, as they gazed into each other's eyes.
"My Nathalie…" He said softly, as he held her close to him. "I don't know what I'd do without you. I love you."
"...Of course I love you too, Gabriel." She tells him, her thumb running along his cheek delicately once.
He seemed a bit surprised. "You….do?"
"Well… of course I do. Why do you think I did all that for you? I wanted you to be happy. If that meant you and I being Hawk Moth and Mayura and getting those miraculous… then I wanted to do that for you."
"...Emilie would have never forgiven me if I had chosen to bring her back at the cost of our son's life. She loved Adrien more than anyone in the entire world, and would have given herself up for him if that's what was needed. I felt guilty watching you suffer while wearing that broken miraculous. I should have been more firm about you not wearing it."
"I didn't care. I would have been willing to do it all the way to the end. I care only about you, and Adrien. If my own life would have ended for your cause… I would have done it."
"I wouldn't have let you. I couldn't risk losing another woman I love so deeply. Adrien would have been devastated as well… he cares so much about you too. He couldn't lose another motherly figure in his life."
"...And he won't. I'll be here for you, and for Adrien. I love both of you. Always and forever." She says to him, as she gives him a gentle kiss on the cheek.
He held her even tighter as she said this. He was smiling, as they let each other go. "I love you, and I'm sure Adrien loves you too… always and forever. Now… We should go back… before anyone else notices before we're gone."
She nodded, as the two of them rejoined the others. Adrien saw their return, and gave them a big smile, but then returned to his friends. Gabriel looked to Nathalie, and gave her another smile. He had started the week feeling miserable, hopeless and weak, but underwent a metamorphosis, and ended a completely new man inside. He was looking forward to what life would be like now, with the end of Hawk Moth, and a renewed sense of love and happiness in his heart.
