It has been three years since Rey and Ben Solo defeated the Sith Lord Palpatine. With the help of the Jedi ghosts, the two Light Side users had stood up to the former emperor and deflected his deadly Force lighting back to him. Dissolving him forever.
The two had made a good life for themselves on Sarcala, a small outer rim planet with a temperate climate and lush plant life. Rey stood at the window and watched the sunrise, over a green meadow the soft light shone on her face highlighting her delicate features. Her simple white gown glowed in the sun. Rey closed her eyes and embraced the warmth. A new rush of warmth flooded her as she felt Ben's arms wrap around her.
He whispered, "Good morning," Eyes still closed she put her hands on his arms.
"Good morning My Love," she answered. They stood there a long moment before Rey opened her eyes and turned to look
up at the man she'd married. He wore a plain white shirt and black pants; his dark brown eyes were soft and loving.
Rey walked away from the window and began pulling Ben toward the kitchen, "Come on, let's get some breakfast."
Ben chuckled softly, "Always hungry aren't you Darling?" Rey did not deny it. Instead, she quickly pulled out several jars from the cupboard and poured them into a bowl, mixing them with a wooden spoon. Ben watched her closely; when she turned her back to grab a small bag from the opposite cupboard he slid his finger into the bowl and popped it into his mouth.
Rey turned and caught him, "Ben!" she scolded.
"What Darling?" he asked innocently, Rey smiled and swatted his shoulder, Ben grinned down at her as she waved her hand at him, shooing him away from the rusty colored mixture.
"Go sit down," she told him, "And wipe that grin off your face, you're in big trouble," Ben's expression stayed the same but he left his wife and sat at the table. After Rey finished making breakfast two sat and ate in relaxed silence.
After they'd finished and the dishes were cleared away Ben took Rey's hand and led her to a sofa. He snuggled her close and Rey drew her feet onto the couch and put her head on his chest. Three years and Rey still made his heart skip. Ben marveled at how lucky he was to have her. He never dreamed his life would end up so happy he rubbed her shoulder softly. Ben could have stayed that way for hours but he knew they had to get to the repair shop. The broken coupling motivators and power converters weren't going to fix themselves.
He gave Rey a little squeeze then whispered, "We ought to get to Gundi's shop Darling" "Yes of course," she murmured then swinging her legs to the floor she turned to face him. She reached up, threading her fingers in his soft, black hair and planted a kiss on his lips. Ben responded immediately, he returned her kiss and brushed her shoulder-length hair back as he cupped her neck gently. Rey slowly withdrew from the kiss, three years and Ben still left her breathless.
….
At Gundi's shop, Rey and Ben repaired various parts and pieces of ships, droids and other machines. Rey truly enjoyed the work as did Ben and Gundi, an elderly Pantoran, loved the help. At the end of the day, Rey and Ben wiped the grease from their hands and tucked the tools away. Gundi, a slender man whose bright blue skin was speckled with darker blue age spots shuffled toward them and smiled the yellow lines marking his family line wrinkled with the movement, "Good work you two," he said. "Go on home now, I'll see you tomorrow." "Goodnight Gundi," Rey said. Ben told Rey, "You go ahead I'm going to buy some more apples. Our stock is low." Ben knew Rey wouldn't protest, she ate apples like they were some kind of irresistible delicacy.
He waited until she vanished from sight then waited a few moments longer. When he was sure she was gone he walked in the opposite direction to a droid parts shop. Ben knew Rey missed BB8 so he'd begun assembling a new droid for her. He only needed a personality chip to finish the little green droid. He purchased the chip then moved on to the fruit stand. "Hello, Unia," Ben greeted the fruit seller. Unia was a young woman of sixteen, her dark skin a stark contrast with her sandy colored tunic and tight curls that framed her face."I need another barrel of apples, please."
Unia just smiled, "Of course you do, you come here every seven days." The girl's accent was thick and melodic. Ben simply smiled and shrugged, "What's a guy supposed to do?" He said helplessly Unia gave him the apples and said "I'll see you in seven days" she said, waving. Ben left Vilsuar Outpost for home; Rey snatched an apple the moment he entered the house and began munching it. "What? No welcome home kiss?" Ben asked in mock outrage. Rey gave him a beguiling smile behind her apple and kept chewing.
She turned and walked slyly away but Ben chased after her, "Get back here Rey!" he called after her Rey squeaked as he scooped her up in his arms. He bent his face close to hers and smirked, "I'm waiting," he said. Rey smiled then kissed him gently, "There, happy?" she asked. "Yes," Ben answered. Ben carried her to the sofa and sat down with her in his lap. Rey dug into her apple again, "Stay right here. I have something to show you," he said.
Leaving her on the sofa he retreated and went outside the house to his workshop and retrieved the droid from a hidden compartment in the wall. He placed it on a small cart and inserted the personality chip. He brought it inside and presented it to Rey, "I made this for you," He told her I know it's not the same as BB8 but I thought she'd be a nice addition," Ben asked tentatively, "Do you like her? You can name her too."
Rey, deeply moved, responded, "Ben, I love her," She wrapped her arms around him in a strong hug then stroked the droid admiring the bright green decals. She lifted the droid off the cart and activated it. The green droid beeped at her Hello BB1 she said happily. The droid roamed around the house getting accustomed to its surroundings and beeping periodically.
Ben and Rey enjoyed a simple meal then went to bed. Ben tucked Rey's small but powerful body against his. Her back against his firm chest and his arms wrapped around her stomach. "Goodnight Ben," Rey whispered, "Goodnight Rey."
