Chapter 2: fight song
-With master fu night of the concert-
Master Fu returned home getting ready to watch the concert on tv. Wayzz even got out some snacks of his own.
"Won't this be fun, master?" Wayzz asked.
"I've heard many great things about this young lady," said Master Fu. "She is very talented. Oh! Before I forget, Wayzz, would you mind checking on the miraculous?"
Wayzz nodded and went to check on the box. He then noticed the box was on the floor. "Master, did you leave the box on the floor?"
"What? No," said Fu. He gasped when he found it there. The guardian immediately ran over and looked inside. "Oh no. One is missing."
"Which one?" Wayzz asked in concern.
"The monarch butterfly choker," said Fu. "The one that works similar to the moth broach."
"Oh no! You don't suppose Hawk Moth took it?" Wayzz asked.
"No. He would have taken the whole box. This thief took only that one," said Fu.
Then a ring on the phone appeared with the email ladyblog update. Fu opened the email and found an article about a new superhero called Monarch Queen. According to the article, she reawakened Lady Wifi as a superhero and helped Ladybug and Cat Noir.
"So that's where it went," Wayzz said. "Whoever stole the miraculous did it to fight against Hawk Moth."
"Yes. But it was still stolen," said Master Fu. "I'm afraid we cannot simply let this slide."
"But we don't know where this miraculous is," said Wayzz. And then he saw something else. "What's that video?"
Curious, Fu clicked on it. Both he and Wayzz were shocked at what they saw. A girl wearing a monarch butterfly costume kissing Cat Noir on the lips.
"Why would someone post that?!" Fu asked.
"Alya's subscribers seem to like it," said Wayzz, looking at the comments. "Some look less excited, but those are clearly Cat Noir fangirls or people ship him with Ladybug."
Then the tv started announcing. "Ladies and gentlemen, here she is, the one the only Marissa!" Master Fu then stopped it for a moment noticing the choker on her neck.
"It's her!" He said. "She's the Monarch Queen!"
"But why would a singer be interested in fighting Hawk Moth?" Wayzz asked.
"It could be because of Adrien," said Fu.
"You think she might know who Adrien is?" Wayzz asked in concern.
"I don't know. It's possible she is drawn to Cat Noir," said Fu. But one thing's for sure he had to talk to her.
-Dressing room after the show.-
She came inside to only stop in her tracks when she instantly pulled out her pepper spray. Master held up his hands in defense.
"Stand down! I am not a stalker!" he quickly said.
She kept her paper spray in hand. "Oh, your Mr. Fu." She sighed deeply, she was in serious trouble.
"You realize stealing a miraculous is a serious issue," he said.
Peony came out of Marissa's jacket and gave Master Fu a stern glare. "I'm not going back, master! I like Marissa! And she's an amazing hero."
Marissa was pretty touched by the little kwami. "Look I'm sorry I stole it but honestly I doubt you would have just given it to me and I needed to save my friend."
"Your friend?" Fu asked. "You mean that Akuma?"
"Yes." She rubbed her neck. "She's very nice."
"She only got akumatized because her plan to fix up Adrien and Marissa went south," said Peony. "She really is a well-meaning friend."
"Yeah. A well-meaning friend who will kick your ass if you try to hurt Mari," Allison warned Fu from behind.
"Allison, calm down this is…..my second grandfather." She tried to make sure it seemed like her friend didn't know.
"Grandfather? Really? Ok... I thought he might be a fan or something." Allison calmly said. "Well, it's nice to meet you. I'm Allison, Marissa's best friend. But you can call me Allie if you want."
"It's nice to meet Allison," said Fu. "And I'm curious how you got back here."
Allison grinned and showed her pass. "One of the perks of being Marissa's friend is getting a backstage pass for her concert."
"Really?" Fu asked. "You're very kind, Marissa."
"Yeah well, I care about my friends." Marissa sighed deeply. "Hey, Allie, how about you go raid the snack bar with Marinette and my boyfriend."
"Okay!" Allison said happily as she went for the snacks. "Dibs on the chocolate chocolate chip cupcakes!"
"Ok she's gone we can talk now." Marissa sweetly said before taking a seat. eat.
"Alright," said Fu. "I am the guardian of the miraculous. The last of the order of guardians. It is my sworn duty to keep the miraculous safe and distribute them to worthy holders."
"I already know no need to explain."
"So you understand why it is such a big deal when I come home to find one of the jewels I was protecting gone?" Fu asked.
"I'm gonna tell you something and I need you to understand this as true no matter how insane it sounds."
"I'm nearly two hundred years old and am guarding magic jewels. What does that say?" Fu asked.
"I'm from another world remade into this world. In the world I'm from this world is a tv show." Marissa said.
Fu only gave a blank stare. "Given my line of work, I'm open to possibilities."
"I also sensed you were unique," said Wayzz. "As is that Allison girl. Is she from your world as well?"
"Yes but I kinda watched a lot of episodes ahead so she doesn't know as much as me," said Marissa.
"In other words, you have seen all of our futures unfold," Fu concluded. "Are you planning to warn us of some type of danger?"
"More like fix what I can. But it's not like I honestly know why we were brought here." Marissa sighed. "Look I know what I did was wrong but I did it for the right reasons and I'm only human and a teen. I make mistakes."
Fu took a breath and said, "I'm glad you could admit your mistake. And I probably couldn't take the choker back anyway. Peony has made it clear that she wants to stay with you. Besides, it might make a difference from having another full-time holder."
"And that I have to agree to work with them to use me." Peony sweetly said confusing Marissa. "Did I not mention that's another thing that makes my power unique? I can't work with just anybody. And I can say no."
"Nope definitely didn't," said Marissa.
Master Fu spoke up. "See once she agrees she can make a connection with the user making it permanent meaning she'll refuse even me to leave you."
She looked confused. "So she's staying with me until I die?" The butterfly smiled hugging her. "Well this wasn't just a little mistake was it…."
"I think it's clear you were meant for each other," said Fu, smiling.
"Yeah, I kinda figured you say that… so how about for now I try to make up for what I did? If you need anything don't haste to ask." Marissa smiled happily.
"That sounds fair," said Fu. "You can start by protecting the Ladybug and Black Cat miraculous in my place. I trust their holders not to lose them, but I still worry for them."
"Hum, I can do that I can even use a few butterflies to keep an eye on it. And I can make sure my knights protect them too…. anyways I gotta go the concert came to an end and we're wrapping up with autographs then I have to go to bed."
-Hours later the next day-
-at the Immortal hotel-
Jagged stone was staring at his record producer with annoyance. The man was trying to get the rocker to change his image yet again.
"If you really wanna make it big, Jagged, let's talk about a group performance with Marissa and Mr. XY," said Bob.
"No way," said Jagged. "Well, Marissa actually has talent. But XY isn't a rocker, he's a baby. I bet he doesn't even shave yet."
"Well this baby just took the number 2 sales spot while the girl took number 1," said Bob.
"And?" Jagged asked. "Doesn't make him a true musician like me. Penny thinks everything I do is rockstar material. She thinks I'm killer."
This ticked Bob Roth off. It was probably partly because XY is his own son, so insulting him was insulting Bob. However, it could also have been because Jagged was insisting on doing things his own way.
"Penny might be your agent, but I'm your real boss!" Bob yelled. "Look, the bottom line is that Bob Roth records cannot afford to be number 2 or 3 in sales. Or rep a number 2 or 3 rockstar. Get real, Jagged! If you wanna stay on top, you're gonna have to modernize your music. Change the way you look. Get a whole new style."
"You know just because he's 3rd doesn't make him bad." A female voice said. Marissa came in with her father.
"Oh hello, Mr. Heartnet. Marissa," said Penny in a friendly way. "What brings you here?"
"Well I came to meet someone whom I'd quite enjoy doing a duet with," said Marissa, sweetly.
"And I'm here because I own the hotel, and my daughter needs an escort," said her father.
Bob Roth beamed as he approached the pair. "Great timing. Great timing. I was actually discussing with Jagged the possibility of you two doing a group single with Mr. XY."
"I'm fine with Jagged. But XY, no way. My mother said it was gonna be with Jagged and I have this awesome song that would mix both his and my style." Marissa put her hands behind her back.
"Besides, my wife says XY is entirely overrated," said Marissa's father, looking at the CD Bob brought with him. He then held it over the wastebasket and dropped it. "And based on what I've heard, I'm inclined to agree."
"Look, if you want me to do a duet with Jagged I'll do it. But XY has to be out," Marissa added.
"Well said, Marissa," said Jagged. "The two of us are real artists who make real music. Like me, for example, everything I produce is real. Even my hair is real. And that's what people love about me. Isn't that right, Fang? Yeah. That's a good Fang."
During his telling, Jagged leaned against his pet crocodile, who panted and wagged his tail like a dog. He even looked at Marissa and licked her hand.
"And I may be using different genres but I always use real emotions and heart in my songs. Look, if you want something good you need something real and full of heart." Marissa explained with passion.
"And what in the name of music is this?" Marissa's father asked, looking at the row of poster boards. They were all pictures of Jagged Stone with album titles written on them. However, they hardly looked like Jagged Stone material.
"Oh, that's the artwork Bob's "artists" came up with for my new album cover," Jagged said, using air quotes on artists. "Real waste of time if you ask me."
"You know what I can't even. Dad, can we go? These two obviously need time." She walked out the door.
"Yes. Let's go," said her father as he went with her.
"Think about that group number!" Bob called just before they left. This made Marissa's father slam the door on him. "They'll be back."
"Yeah. The guy owns the place," Jagged pointed out. "And getting back on the artwork, it looks more like a perfume ad!"
"Look there's a reason they left the artwork isn't good and Marissa is on top because she's on top of most of the world's charts do you think if they made an album cover together she'd be ok with this there?" Penny said.
"This style is what people want!" Bob insisted, gesturing to the artwork.
"She is the younger generation as well and have you seen her artwork." Penny pulled out the picture of the album. It was a picture of an anime girl tied to a stake as flames burned away.
"This is her work?" Bob asked, looking at the work.
"That's hers, alright," said Jagged, smiling. "You gotta respect her bold impulsive choices. I'm thinking about taking a page from her playbook."
"What's that supposed to mean?" Bob asked.
"Well, Marissa's album cover from last year was designed by a friend of hers," Penny explained. "Jagged and I figured he could do something similar to give his album a modern edge while still respecting his unique rugged style."
"The schoolgirl who made these shades gets me. She's gonna design my album cover," said Jagged, holding his Eiffel Tower shades.
"A schoolgirl?" Bob asked skeptically.
"Exactly. She's the same age as the target audience," Penny explained. And then she gave Bob a piece of paper. "Here's her address."
"Well, I guess if it worked for Marissa, it'll work for you," said Bob, reluctantly.
He left after that.
Marissa arrived at school late but since it was for a meeting. When she heard whispers about a new girl. "Well, she's earlier than usual."
"Hey, Mari!" Allison called. "Did you hear everyone gossiping about some new girl? It's like they've never heard of a transfer student before."
"It's you know who." Marissa rolled her eyes walking passed and hugged Adrien once she saw him. "Here's my wonderful boyfriend."
"Good morning, my beautiful girlfriend," Adrien said to her while kissing her hand.
"Girlfriend?" Chloe asked. "You two are actually a thing?"
"Yes. We are," said Adrien, wrapping his arm around Marissa's waist.
Allison laughed as she watched Chloe having a fit. She then looked over at Alya interviewing Lila. She rolled her eyes.
"That girl is such an attention seeker," she remarked. And then she got an idea. "Maybe I'll…. Trick her a little."
"It's better than hearing about Marissa getting Chloe back in school early." Marinette sighed.
Allison leaned back and said, "Yeah. Mari didn't wanna press charges. She figured being akumatized was punishment enough. Of course, it helped that we both made the case that Chloe may have been being used as a mule. So until they get further proof she's on probation if she does anything else she'll be suspended 6 weeks."
"Well, that explains it," said Marinette, sighing again. Only this time it was sad.
"You okay?" Allison asked.
"I'm sure I will be. Eventually," said Marinette while watching Adrien and Marissa. "I'm not gonna lie, it hurts seeing them together. But I'm also happy for them."
"Oh my God. You have a crush on him." Allison said.
"It doesn't matter now," said Marinette. "He loves her."
"Yeah but she also cares for you. Which is why you can't tell her." Allison said in a serious tone. "Look you'll find love again. And think of it like this you'll always be able to fall in love again."
Marinette smiled at Allison and then hugged her. "Thanks, Allie. I owe you our best chocolate cake."
"Chocolate cake," Allison said with a dreamy sigh, which made Marinette laugh.
"You are addicted to chocolate, you know that?" Marinette asked.
"I know," Allison sweetly said. "Hey, can I tell you something and you need to promise not to tell anyone?"
"Sure. Shoot," said Marinette, listening.
"I'm the one who got Chloe in trouble," Allison whispered in her ear.
"What?!" Marinette shrieked.
"Will you chill out?! Everyone will hear! You promised!" Allison hissed.
"Sorry," said Marinette. "But why would you do that? I mean, I'm no fan of Chloe, but you made her look like a thief."
"Chole was gonna hurt Marissa and I'm gonna do something that will expose a super liar."
"Wait. You picked up on that?" Marinette asked. "Everyone else is buying her stories. Unbelievable as they sound."
"Yeah well, she's going after Adrien. Anyone who does that and is willing to hurt Marissa is my enemy."
"Adrien?" Marinette asked. "But she can't do that. Not that it'll work. Adrien's a gentleman. He'd never cheat on the girl he truly loves."
"I don't think she cares. What if she makes up something? I have to do this and I need your help."
Marinette looked at Adrien and Marissa. They looked so happy together. There was no way Marinette was going to let some liar even try to ruin their happiness.
"Alright. I'm in," she said.
"Good." She pulled out a few small things. "This is a micro spider. But I need to implant them into her phone but she needs to be distracted well I do it. Can you do that?"
"Sure," said Marinette, eyeing the target. "I heard her mention that Jagged Stone wrote a song about her. Maybe she'll be interested in hearing about my new….. Opportunity."
Allison smirked. "Perfect." She walked over to the side of the building waiting for Marinette.
Marinette watched as Lila laughed before answering a question. "Ladybug and me, we're like this," she said, crossing her fingers.
"Hey, Lila. I'm Marinette. I heard Jagged Stone made a song for you. Well, he asked me to make a cover for him so you must have an idea right." Marinette asked in the best tone she could.
Lila laughed at that. "Really? You got picked to design a cover for him?"
"You did? Girl, that is awesome!" Alya gushed.
"She did." A voice said they turned and it was Marissa. "His and mine. We're playing a song I made if everything goes well."
"Wait. Aren't you….. Marissa?" Lila asked, staring in awe. "Holy cow, the rumors were true. I am a huge fan."
"Yeah oh, have you met my boyfriend yet?" She asked in a simple tone.
"You have a boyfriend?" Lila asked.
"Yes. Adrien." Marissa said as Adrien came over and put his hand on hers.
Lila looked shocked. Marissa was holding hands with Adrien Agreste. The very boy she herself was infatuated with. There was no way she was letting this girl take him from her. No matter how famous she was.
"You okay?" Adrien asked Lila.
Lila snapped back to reality and smiled. "Yes. Just a little star-struck."
"You said Jagged wrote a song about you right?" Marissa asked in a curious tone going to look at the songs on her phone. She then found the phone number. "You know my two brothers love to write songs too." She noticed Allison doing something in Lila's bag. "I should ask Jagged what song he wrote about you."
Lila immediately said, "He wasn't allowed to record. Not after the company found out how young I was. They were worried the fans might misunderstand what he meant."
"Hum, he would still remember it though. Besides, it shouldn't be a problem unless there's some other reason you don't want me to call." Lila saw it. She was telling her she wasn't gonna let Lila ruin her life unless she wished to join her in it.
"Why are we talking about me?" Lila quickly said. "Marinette is the one who has the opportunity to design his new album cover."
"Your right how about you join me then and if you need any help I'll help you initially. I heard you're having trouble in English and math. I'm sure Adrien would be ok if I helped you right?"
"I don't mind," said Adrien. "I wouldn't be able to stay long anyway. I have a fencing class."
"Thank you." Marissa kissed him on the lips. "See you in class."
"You too, my angel," said Adrien as he walked away.
"So, Lila, how about I help you with some math and English on the way." She smiled happily as she took her hand and dragged her away.
"Okay!" Lila squealed.
Marinette looked at Allison and said, "You planted it, right?"
"Yes, now the moment Lila admits she's a liar the bots will record and videotape her and send it all over school. I may have to work 20-night shifts to pay my dad back but well worth it." She smirked walking away.
Marinette's kwami appeared out before her. "This seems wrong."
"I know," said Marinette sighing. "Lila is a liar, but this kind of humiliation could kill her social life for good. I don't want that. I just wanted to teach her a lesson about trying to break up relationships."
"Marissa seemed to notice she's not trying to humiliate her. Just trying to get her to back up." She said in a gentle come tone. "I think she mentioned those brothers for a reason...she's incredibly smart."
"Yeah, I know." Marinette sighed deeply. She ran off to stop Allison. But it was too late she and everyone else got an email video. "No!"
Lila appeared on the vids. "I can't believe they actually believe all the stuff I told them. Once I get a lie big enough on Marissa I'll make even Adrien hate her. I want Adrien after all. That skank deserves to be alone. That's right, Lila you're just telling people what they want. What you want them to. "
"Oh no. What have I done?" Marinette asked in despair. She ran into class. And saw a very angry Marissa and a very shocked Lila.
Marissa looked to Allison as if what the heck. But sighed. She couldn't change what happened. Marinette could hardly believe what she just did. She just became worse than Chloe.
"Just for the record, I would never dump you, Marissa," said Adrien.
"I know. You're the kindest, sweetest, boy ever. And that's why I love you with all my heart." Marissa laid her head on his shoulder.
Lila just stood in shock trying to come up with some lie. But everyone looked at her as if she was nothing more than a horrible person and a liar trying to ruin a couples' happiness. Marinette sat down next to Alya and held her guilty expression.
-later-
Lila was leaving the school and could feel the glares on her.
Marissa ran over to her. "Lila, I'm sorry for what happened to you but, you were trying to ruin my life and my relationship? Do you at least understand why? Maybe you should have just gone with another boy."
"Why does it matter? It's not like I have any chances with any boys now," Lila said, clenching her fists. "Not after what everyone heard."
"I wouldn't say none. My eldest brother is as you would say, not a fool, too kind to hate anyone." Marissa pulled out a piece of paper. "Up to you."
Lila took the paper with the name and number on it. She smiled at the girl and said, "I'll think about it."
"No matter what I would like to try to be your friend. A real one." Marissa smiled at her. Before walking off.
Lila smiled back before leaving as well. Allison watched the whole scene in disbelief. Had she actually seen that? Did her friend just set up the girl who tried to steal her boyfriend with her brother? How was that fair?
Marissa walked up to Allison. "Please don't become an Akuma again from what I'm about to say but you went a bit too far. You could have just warned her and told her you would release it but actually doing it was going a bit too far."
"Are you serious?" Allison asked, still in disbelief. "She tried to steal Adrien and you're mad at me?"
"Yes, and I was dealing with it. And I'm not mad. " she sighed deeply.
Allison looked unhappy with what she heard. "I was looking out for you."
"And I understand that I love you for it. But it doesn't mean I'm happy with what you did. I'd never lie to you on stuff like that. I'm just really disappointed. I don't want you to become an Akuma but that's how I feel. Maybe Marinette can make you understand."
Allison's eyes welled up with tears. "I need to go," she said as she left.
Marinette saw the scene and wanted to help.
Marissa looked at Marinette. "I get you were trying to protect me but what if Lila becomes an Akuma because of this she'd be extremely powerful with such high negative emotion."
"I didn't know she was going to do this," said Marinette. "I thought she was going to show it to only you as a warning to be careful."
"I know. But Allison isn't the type to do things by halves. She could have threatened her with it. As cruel as that sounds it would have been better. But now the problem is worse. I'm not angry and I see you feel sorry about it so I need you to stop another Akuma. Talk to Allison and explain." Marissa hugged her. "I trust you. You're my friend and I know you'll do the best you can."
Marinette hugged her back and said, "I think I know what to do."
On that note, Marinette left to find Allison. She found her sitting alone in the courtyard. She was crying into her knees. Marinette sat down next to her and spoke.
"I'm listening," she said.
Allison lifted her head, tears were now streaming down her eyes. "Why does nothing I do matter?"
"Things you do matter. Why would you think they wouldn't?" Marinette replied.
"All I do is try to help Marissa and look out for her. That's why I got Marissa that reservation, that's why I got Chloe out of the way, that's why I revealed the truth," Allison said. "And yet, none of it mattered. Marissa's date at the restaurant got ruined so she had it at Adrien's. It didn't even matter if I did anything. I looked out for her when a girl tried to steal her boyfriend, and she feels sympathy for her!"
"From what I understand she seemed worried that she'd become an Akuma. And she felt bad because she saw it as a way you could get hurt."
"I heard all that already!" Allison shouted, still crying. "Why are you replaying Marissa's same old tune?! What part of this is supposed to help?! This is so typical! I look out for Marissa for nothing!"
"Easy, Allie!" Marinette said, grabbing her shoulders. "There's no need to be angry. Marissa does appreciate you. You're her friend."
"Then why has everything I've done been in vain?" Allison sadly asked.
"No, it hasn't. If it weren't for you Marissa wouldn't be with Adrien. If it weren't for you Adrien wouldn't have seen how he really felt," Marinette said.
"And if it wasn't for you I wouldn't have you. You're my best friend, I love you with all my heart. I know you meant well. I know everything you did was out of love. But that's why I don't want you to get hurt. I want you to feel important because you are. You are a wonderful person and yes what she tried to do was horrible." Marissa's voice said. Marinette revealed to be playing a recording of Marissa's voice from her phone.
"She wanted you to hear that without feeling confronted or attacked," said Marinette.
Allison started crying again, this time it was happiness. She realized she did make a difference. Marinette offered her a hand and Allison took it. The two then went to get some juice. It was a good thing Marinette succeeded because an Akuma was on the scene.
-Hawk Moth's lair-
"Drat! I almost had her! That was the second one today!" he shouted in anger. "This cannot keep happening!"
-in Marinette's room-
Marinette was drawing the artwork for the new album on her tablet. Needless to say, it was far from her style.
Marissa was stressing out a bit. She was worried about everything and laid her head on the desk. "It's like I feel the world crumbling and I can't control it, Marinette. I hurt my friend, I hurt you and somehow I'm barely able to stay together."
"Marissa, it's okay. Allie just got upset. She's better now," said Marinette. "And you didn't do anything wrong to me."
"I hurt your feelings. I saw how you looked. But I feel like crap my mom's not making it better. She wants me to do so much I'm the perfect girl, the perfect daughter, the perfect singer. And do you know what kinda standard that sets for me? I'm getting to the end of my rope."
"Marissa, it'll be okay. You have me, Adrien, and Allie to lean on," Marinette assured her with a smile.
"Yeah, I know." She began to cry. Marinette immediately hugged her.
While they hugged, Marissa opened her eyes and found Marinette's tablet with the design on it. She broke from the hug to look at it. It had a picture of Jagged and her from their previous concerts, but it was touched up.
"That's pretty good. Kinda reminds me of XY's." Marissa then realized and looked really angry. "I'm getting sick and tired of that producer."
"I'm sorry, Marissa," said Marinette, reaching for her tablet. "Mr. Roth told me you guys were going in a different direction."
"No, because it's not what he wants. First, my mom pushes this perfect image on me then he makes you do it XYs way. That's it I'm done. I am going down to that man and shout at him. I'm so completely pissed."
"Marissa, wait!" Marinette called, running after her friend as she stormed off.
-Hawk Moth-
The villain beamed as he felt the anger. "Finally. A negative emotion I can work with. The rage from feeling like your life is out of your control. Fly my Akuma! And evilize her quickly!"
-with Marissa-
The Akuma heard its master and flew to Marissa. As Marissa was getting ready to call Lucifer for a ride to Bob Roth, she failed to notice the Akuma coming her way. Peony noticed right away.
"Marissa, watch out!" she screamed. But it was far too late. The Akuma flew into Marissa's guitar.
'Rising Star, I am Hawk Moth," the villain said in her mind. "You have been taken advantage of for the last time. I am giving you the power to control others through your music. In exchange, you must give me Ladybug and Cat Noir's miraculous. Are we in agreement?'
She needed to do something. She had to get Queen Monarch to appear so she texted something so her kwami didn't have to speak. [Is there a way to give someone my miraculous temporarily even if it's permanently mine?]
Peony looked scared, but nodded. She pressed some buttons on the phone. [I can form a temporary pact with any person of your choosing. But I will still be yours. Just give me permission.]
[Fine I give permission to give it to Ayla or Adrien. Or if you can't find those Allison.]
[I shall return. Don't worry. I believe in Ladybug and Cat Noir.
She took off her choker and tossed it before saying. " I agree, Hawk Moth." Finally losing her battle of will.
Peony nearly cried as she went in search of at least one of the people Marissa gave permission to. At the same time, Marinette arrived to find Marissa engulfed in black smoke.
"Marissa! No!" Marinette cried.
Once the smoke cleared, now had spiked hair, a leather jacket with spiked shoulders, red leather pants, and high heeled boots. She also had red gloves, a silver chain belt, a chain necklace with a dagger, black lipstick, and an evil version of her guitar on her back.
"I'm Rising Star now!" she declared. "And now everyone who tried to control my life shall be mine to control. Starting with Bob Roth!"
She ran off.
-With Peony-
Peony was flying through Paris looking for any sign of Alya, Adrien, Allison. At first, she had no luck. But then she spotted someone in the distance. It was Allison heading for her family's restaurant. Perfect!
"Allison!" Peony called as she flew to her. She got right in front of the girl, miraculous in hand. "I need your help!"
"My help?" Allison asked, confused. "Why? What are you doing with that?"
"Queen Monarch is unable to use her miraculous right now. But you're one of the people she gave permission to use it temporarily," Peony explained. "With my magic, you can choose up to three champions to fight alongside you and the hero duo. Just wear the choker and say Peony, wings flutter."
"So, I can pick anyone to be an ally?" Allison asked while putting on the choker.
"Yup," said Peony. "Now you have to hurry. Your best friend is going to attack Jagged Stone's producer."
"Right. Peony, wings flutter!" Allison shouted, and then became Queen Monarch. She summoned a butterfly and put her magic in. "I know just the one. Someone who could use redemption. Go, butterfly!"
The butterfly flew away to seek out its target. Allison could only hope her champion was found in time.
-elsewhere-
Lila was looking at the number and considering calling Marissa's brother. Suddenly, a butterfly flew into the paper, catching her attention.
"Lila, I am Queen Monarch for now. And I am in need of a champion," said a voice in her head. "While I cannot undo what was done to you, I can help you make up for what you were about to do. By recruiting you as my champion to help Ladybug and Cat Noir."
Lila smiled and said, "I'm ready, my queen."
"Then I grant you the power of illusions. Join the fight, Volpina," said the voice.
-with rising star-
She walked around the building looking for Bob Roth to play a special song for him. She found him giving an interview.
"A group performance with XY and Marissa will do wonders for Jagged's image," said Bob. "Can't hurt Marissa's either."
"I'm afraid there's a change of plans, Bob. Rising Star's only song will only sing with Jagged and you will listen with open ears!" Her voice boomed.
"What the heck?" Bob asked, backing up.
"Marissa?" asked the reporter.
"It's Rising Star, darling." She strummed her guitar. The notes played like a lovely star before Bob Roth came under her control.
"I am at your command," he said, bowing.
"Good now call off that stupid XY duo." She played her guitar before going off to make Paris listen to her.
"I think that's far enough!" a female voice shouted. Ladybug appeared in front of her. "I agree that you shouldn't do a duet with XY, but there's a better way to handle this, Marissa!"
She glared. "You think you have a say in my world, Ladybug? I think it's time to change my tone and make Paris see you as an enemy." She grabbed the camera. "Listen to me, Paris. Hear my voice. Turn against Ladybug and make her the enemy."
Many Parisians who were watching fell under a spell. People immediately glared at Ladybug and got ready to attack her.
"No! Don't listen to her!" Ladybug pleaded, but no one listened.
Ladybug had no choice but to fight off her attackers. Rising Star used this chance to escape. All seemed hopeless, until a light shot into the crowd. Suddenly, more Ladybug's appeared. Ladybug herself was confused until she felt someone grab her wrist and pull her out.
Ladybug looked at her rescuer and saw a brunette girl dressed up like a fox.
"Lucky I showed up when I did, huh?" the girl asked.
"Have I been replaced already, bugaboo?" Cat Noir asked as he came along.
"No. I have no idea who this is," said Ladybug.
"Oh right," said the fox girl. "I am Volpina. I'm a new miraculous holder here to help."
"Volpina, don't do that," another voice said in annoyance. A monarch butterfly mask appeared. "I gave you those powers to help us not to toy around with."
"Calm down, my queen. I was just kidding," Volpina casually said.
"I'm guessing the Monarch Queen was unavailable," said Cat Noir.
"Yes. But I'm certain she will return soon," said Monarch Queen. "I created Volpina to help with her illusions. Now we all must work together to save that girl."
"I agree," said Ladybug. "If she broadcasts live next, she'll control everyone."
They looked at the girl who was now known as Rising Star. "It seems she can do more than control. She can make things appear."
"Even more reason to stop her. Lucky Charm!" Ladybug threw her yoyo into the air and out came magical ladybugs which became an XY CD. "An XY album?"
"But she hates that music," said Monarch Queen.
Volpina grinned and said, "Maybe that could get her off guard."
That statement gave Ladybug an idea. "I think this is a good time for an XY concert."
"Oh, my brain!" Cat Noir dramatically said.
-with Jagged Stone-
Jagged was practicing with his guitar when he heard a knock on the door. He answered and found a familiar girl.
"Whoa. Marissa, what's with the new look?" he asked.
"You could say it's for an event." She looked outside. Before making something. "Excuse me I need this for something." She ran off after that she was preparing for Ladybug and Volpina. If she knew her and she did they would use illusions to trick her. So she'd use a fan to trick her. One she'd make look like her.
"He,y all you music fans!" Cat Noir shouted. "Give it up for Mr. XY!"
Suddenly, XY appeared on a stage and started playing music, if one could call it that. Just hearing it was starting to make her blood boil. To make matters worse, his next track sounded a lot like one of her songs.
"You rip-off artist!" she screamed as she charged at the artist.
Rising Star got ready to punch him, only for him to disappear. It was an illusion. She fell for an illusion! A yoyo wrapped around her, binding her.
"Cat Noir, go for the guitar!" Ladybug shouted.
"Cataclysm!" Cat Noir shouted as he gathered destructive power in his hand.
She grabbed his hand and placed it to the ground with her feet. "Sorry, kitty. Even bonded I'm better than I seem." She took a deep breath before sliding through the ties and punched Ladybug to the ground. And grabbing the guitar again. "Well this was nice and all but you're out of luck and I'm in luck." She grabbed kittys hand and pulled his ring off as they fell through the floor. She jumped out to the window on the second floor. "Thanks, kitty."
"No!" Adrien screamed, and then quickly ran to hide.
The butterfly symbol appeared on Rising Star's eyes and Hawk Moth said, "Excellent, Rising Star. Now get Ladybug's miraculous. The earrings. While you still have a chance!"
"They aren't gonna be easy to get. Especially now." She said in a calm and clear tone. She slid down the building before grabbing a flag pole.
"You succeeded in getting Cat Noir's miraculous. Now Ladybug has no one to back her up," said Hawk Moth.
"Actually she does. Monarch Queen and Lila who is now Volpina." Marissa answered running into the building and playing a song to hypnotize a few into keeping them at bay.
"You don't say," said Hawk Moth.
She looked around. Looking for the tv station. "I think it's time to call my fans to rise." She ran off.
"Cat Noir! Are you okay?!" Ladybug called.
"Yeah! But she took my miraculous!" Adrien replied. "I don't think I can help you now!"
"Speaking of miraculous. You better recharge, Ladybug," said Monarch Queen, pointing at her blinking earrings. "You're gonna transform back soon."
Ladybug nodded, running off. Monarch Queen went to the lower floor to see if she could catch up. Only for the tv to turn one and in that instant she plugged her ears.
#Hello, Paris listen to me!# She started to play the guitar. #Listen to me obey me and take care of Ladybug. Capture her, stop her, and give me her earrings?#
Monarch Queen looked around and saw many people falling under her spell.
"Oh no," she said. "Marissa, why?"
"Get her!" she heard someone shout.
"Ladybug!" Monarch Queen shouted as she ran to find her. "Volpina, if you can hear me, find Ladybug and help her!"
"On it, my queen," said Volpina from her end.
-with Adrien-
Adrien was looking around the city in search of Marissa when he heard her broadcast. He covered his ears before he heard enough to get controlled. Unfortunately, everyone else was caught in the spell. He looked outside in time to see Ladybug fleeing from everyone in Paris, including his bodyguard.
"No!" He shouted. "Ugh! If I was still Cat Noir, I could do something!"
He needed to think of something. Anything then a thought came to his mind. "I have to find her and try to convince her out of this."
Adrien pulled out his phone and muted the video. He figured the video might have a clue to where she's broadcasting from. That was when he noticed the Kids+ logo in the corner. She had to be there.
Not wasting a minute, Adrien ran for the studio. Once there, he made a beeline for the elevator and went up to the station. There he found his akumatized girlfriend laughing as she watched live coverage of the Ladybug hunt on the Ladyblog.
"Marissa," Adrien said.
The girl looked surprised. "What are you doing here?"
"I came to see you," said Adrien as he approached her. "Marissa, you have to stop this. You can't keep helping Hawk Moth."
She looked surprised for a moment. Her heartbeat deeply. Her cheeks flushed.
"Rising Star, focus!" Hawk Moth said in her head. "You nearly have both miraculouses! Don't get distracted!"
"Marissa, whatever it is that's bothering you, you don't need Hawk Moth to resolve it. I'll help you. We can figure it out together," Adrien pleaded.
Her heart thumped. She stopped for a moment before holding her guitar, taking a breath, and handing it to Adrien. Adrien took it and smiled at her.
"I knew I could get through to you," he said.
"Rising Star! No!" Hawk Moth shouted. "He's trying to trick you!"
"Get away from Adrien!" Volpina shouted upon arrival. She stood in the doorway with Ladybug and Monarch Queen.
"Easy, girls! It's fine! She was just giving me the object," Adrien said, his hand still on the guitar. "Now, just let me get this away from you so Ladybug can change you back, Marissa."
She took a step back away from the guitar. "Just break it."
"See? No need to worry," said Adrien. And then he slammed the guitar on the floor, breaking it.
A black and purple butterfly flew out of the instrument and Ladybug acted quickly. She opened her yo-yo and threw it at the butterfly, capturing it. She then opened it and watched the now white butterfly leave.
"Bye-bye, little butterfly," she said. And then she pulled out a hand mirror with ladybug spots. "I had to use it to blind the mob. Miraculous Ladybug!"
She threw the mirror into the air and it turned into a swarm of magical ladybugs. The ladybugs flew around the city and repaired damage, unhypnotized people, and even turned Marissa human again.
The heroes and Adrien all fist bumped together. "Pound it!"
Adrien looked to Marissa and then walked over and took Marissa's hand and asked, "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. "
"How are we supposed to return Cat Noir's miraculous?" Volpina asked.
"I'll release his kwami and have him do it," said Ladybug.
"What's a kwami?" Volpina asked.
"You'll see," said Monarch Queen. "Speaking of which, I should go and you need your form back." She snapped her finger and the monarch butterfly disappeared and Lila became normal. "I hope you become a great person Lila but for now i gotta go."
Monarch Queen ran off. Leaving the area straight away.
"Lila?" Adrien asked.
"Yeah," Lila proudly said.
"That was nice of you to try and save me." Marissa smiled giving her a hug.
Lila blinked in surprise at first. And then she smiled back. "After what I tried to do, you're still opening up to me?"
"Look I don't think you're a bad person. You just need someone who can see the good person side and my brother always looks for the good in someone. So I'm doing the same. So no need to lie just be the true you."
"You are so sweet, Marissa," said Lila, smiling sweetly. And then Plagg was freed and Lila blinked in surprise. "Uh…. What is that?"
"That must be the kwami." Marissa handed it the ring. "Here."
"Thanks," said Plagg. "I'll tell Cat Noir you all said hi. Bye!"
Plagg flew away with the ring, mentally promising Adrien he would meet up with him later.
She nodded smiling. She went to go after that to her home. Adrien stopped her and offered her a ride, which she accepted.
They arrived at Marissa's home, where her mother greeted her with a hug.
"Oh sweetheart! Thank goodness you're alright!" she said. "I'm so sorry about everything that happened."
"You also have a visitor," her father said, and then revealed Jagged Stone.
"What are you doing here?" Marissa asked in confusion.
"I was actually here talking to your mother about switching companies," said Jagged.
"Aw I get it you need someone who respects your style," said Marissa.
"Exactly," said Jagged.
"And we were discussing your possible duet," said her mother. "If that's alright, honey. I don't want to force you into anything you're not comfortable with."
"I'm fine with it. I got a good song too. Miraculous." Marissa smiled showing him the music.
Jagged read the lyrics and smiled. "Rock 'n riff, Marissa! Is there anything you can't do?"
"Who knows." Marissa highfived the jagged. That day a rocking version of Miraculous played through the tvs.
