A/N: I'm late on this story...but I wrote a short April Fools story and wanted to share. :)

Artie Grossman walked into the CHP, a smile on his face that was louder than a laugh. He held a copy of the Highway Patrolman. Well more than one copy, he'd brought a stack for his fellow officers. As he did nearly everytime after having an article of his published. Nothing too special, just funny stories of past April Fool's jokes around the station or out on the highway. Some of the craziest calls they'd gotten, and he still couldn't believe the stories he'd heard from his fellow officers.

Walking down the strangely quiet hall, he stopped at the mailboxes. Shoving copies of the magazine in everyone's mailbox. As he did this he heard Jon's amused voice coming from the break room.

"What are you doing?" The blonde officer asked, staring at the younger, dark haired officer.

A weak forced smile appeared on officer Frank Poncherello's face, only lasting a few seconds. "Whatever your prank is, you wont fool me." He paused, his trademark toothy grin finally appearing. "This year I'm in a constant state of readiness." He checked the chair for what seemed like the hundredth time before cautiously taking a seat and carefully checking the coffee Jon had bought him before taking a sip.

Jon looked away, covering his mouth a moment to hold in a laugh. Instead he let out a quiet cough then turned back to his partner. "What prank?"

Grossie stood in the doorway watching. For once in his life, he kept quiet. Wondering if this exchange might help him come up with the inspiration for the next chapter in his current novel. He leaned in the doorway.

"It's April Fool's day, Jon," Ponch said taking another careful sip of coffee, then glancing around the room.

"Oh, I must've forgot," Jon replied a smile so sincere it was hard to say it was fake. What if he wasn't lying?

Ponch shook his head. "There's no way," he said standing up, pushing his chair in. "I'm not falling for it, Jon."

Jon held his hands up in mock defense. "Would I lie to you?"

Ponch took the final sip of his coffee while coming up with an answer to that. He couldn't think of any reason Jon would lie, he frowned throwing the cup away. "No," he answered. "But there's a first for anything!" He walked out of the room, seconds later peeking his head back in. "Whatever you're going to do I'll be ready.' he disappeared after that.

Grossie couldn't stay quiet anymore, he came in taking a seat beside Jon. "Jon, you didn't really forget the day, did you?"

Jon smiled. "Of course not." He patted Grossie's shoulder as he stood. "But Ponch doesn't need to know that."
