Chapter 1

I didn't know what to think, it was as if my heart stopped beating. I begin to question if my sanity was still intact. I have no idea what the hell I was looking at. It gave goose bumbs just by looking at it.

Uncertainty weld up within me, I drop it and back the hell away from it just what the hell is this thing.

Her face looks melted off, half of it looks human and the other.. was metal.

She had gold locks of blond and smooth skin and also one blue eye. The other was dead black as that half of her face on closer inspection I thought I saw blood but it had a darkish tint to it.

Definitely not human.

I whirled my pulse rifle around to the source of the sound, I activated the blue laser sight and it was shown in my flash light.

"Who there". I called out I got nothing but silence.

I called out again and was still silent. With caution I approached the sound of my metal boots stomp the ground and my heart rate increased.

I was nervous but not new to the type of situation. With each step the feeling of dread welled up within me, I didn't want to do this but I have a feeling whatever is not dealt with now, will show up later.

I finally made it to the spot where the sound came from, I turned to the corner and my weapon ready to fire my light shown in it was a..

rabbit?

the small creature took notice of my presents and scurried off to somewhere..

I felt a sigh of relief in me and shook my head and just chuckled. Jesus that was tense I guess I'm used to these types of situations.

I went back to where I found the uh..robot lady corpse. I was still there and it gave me the creeps just by looking at it.

I got the hell out of that building and went further into the city. I found nothing. Not a clue of direction,not a hint of civilization, and no comm relay just more ruin and rusted cars. This was unsettling.

I have no idea where I am, getting lost isn't a good idea right now plus.. I'm starting to get tired.

I looked at the sky and noticed it was still daylight. The sun is still light.

I could swore that I've been walking here for hours and saw no change whatsoever. I was about to walk back to the ship and conclude my day here, hopefully I find something tomorrow.

That is..until i heard the sound of gunfire.

I turned my head to where I heard it, I could also hear the sound of explosives, shouts of order also be heard.

Then I heard a scream.

I quickly ran towards the direction, my heart rate beating fast, I felt the feeling of adrenaline running in my veins. Someone needed help and fast.

I could recall my day when I was a wolverine member, being sent to colony worlds for one or two things. Evac or guard civilians.

Some days were a success Seeing the ships leave in time as they make it off the evac center. And others not so much.

Walking through the doors of the residential halls, only awaited him with a horrific sight of human body's that were mutilated. I can still recall the sounds of civilians crying for help when they were bleeding out.

I pushed those thoughts aside and focused on the task at hand.now was not the time for that.

I made it to the battlefield, I hid behind some cover and observed. My eyes widened at what I saw.

"What the hell" I saw people that were wearing similar tan BDU clothing like that metal corpse I ran into some had cloaks on.

But what really shocked me was what they were fighting. Odd mechanical machines that moved in an odd manner, some had a weapon that would fire weird looking energy that looked strangely like electromagnetic pulsation, others seem to engage in cqc with those resistance fighters. Spears and axes that looked a little too big for the average person.

Same thing could be said for those resistance fighters they barely looked like they were equipped for this kind of engagement,the weapons they used looked ancient like guns long ago that still used bullets.

Those kinds of weapons hadn't been used since the earth wars and probably in the early space age. I also noticed they were somewhat ineffective, they barely penetrated that armor.

The force of those machines were pushing back those resistance looking guys, they would not last long. I could see some of their members injured barely holding themselves together.

I could see one of them trying to hold their arm from falling off.

Another was holding their dead comrade in their arms...crying for help.

A leader I believe was shouting orders trying to get control of the situation.

This..this reminded me something..my early years during the military.

The leader who lost it all.

A massacre of a hundreds soldiers

A sole survivor.

Too much they reminded me of myself. They reminded me of my comrades.they were so human...yet they are not.

But it didn't matter.

I won't let these people die human or not.

And so I made my choice. I shoot a staid shot at a group of enemy machines stopping them in motion.

Using the pulse rifle grenade launcher I shot at another group of hostiles, effectively destroying them.

I began to give the soldiers covering fire, normal the regular pulse rounds wouldn't be too effective against heavy armor, but in my case mine was a modified version of the military using acid mod. Which is said to melt through the toughest armor. This effect led to the machines to break down and lose their limbs, it even destroyed them from the inside which caused an explosive in their lines.

That causes nearby machines to get damaged by their own.

This had in fact shocked the soldiers who had thought they were going to meet their end. Unexpected attack from an unknown ally From the corners of my eye I could see a few of those soldiers looking in my direction. I didn't care. I was so concentrated on taking down those machines that they really should take this chance and get their bearings.

I guess the leader of the group had the same thought as mine.

"Hey damnit, take this chance and destroy these bastards" she shouted as she took her sword and began hacking down on the enemy.

The same went for the others as they fought back, using this chance I badly gave them. The way they fought...they we're so fast..faster than the normal and the strikes they delivered were strong enough to cut through the metals of the machines.

I had to be careful and not stasis shot these guys. I really did not want to be in a fight with them, I had a feeling they could break me like a twig.

Even with the suit on.

I shot another stasis shot and began open fire on the last Bach of machines, with that done I reloaded and checked the area for more hostiles, looks like it was clear for now but not for long.

Approaching the group with my guard lowered. Seems reckless but I'm not trying to appear threating.

Looks like the leader took notice and approached me well, she had gray short hair covering her right eye, smooth skin and a beautiful set of green eyes.

God she can make a man fall for her.

She stopped and put her hand on her hip looking me up and down, she was sizing me up just to see what I'm made of with the grin on her face she spoke. "Gotta say..pal we weren't looking too good back there not until you showed and gave hell...thanks for the help by the way".

I chucked and rubbed the back of my neck "glad to have helped, I was just in the area and heard a scream" I put my hand out "names David by the way"

She took it and shook damn she a grip. "Grace" she replied.

She broke off the shake and looked around her surroundings noticing the damage of her team she signed shaking her head.

Not really the best situation huh.

"Don't suppose you can help us with our situation, I don't know what kind of Android you are, but as you can see my group doesn't have fire power to carry out our mission, we're going back to base" she was hoping he agreed.

Android?

" I'm not in the best position to be honest.. I hope you could help me with my situation".

With a raised eyebrow and her hands on her hips she asked " And what would that be"?

" Can you tell me what we're dealing with here? I'm lost and don't know what's what" I really had no idea what's going on.

She gave me a dumbfounded look " You don't know" she said. I shook my head no. Rubbing the back of her head she said" your memory circuit must be damage but I can tell you this were in the middle of the 14th machine war fighting in service for humanity"

What?

And that's it for now and remember in nier their is no meaning. in dead space there is no hope but these two together and you get a deeper meaning of hope... I think.
