Annabeth staggered along to the light, half supported by the wall, and half by her also injured boyfriend. Percy was bruised and bloody, his leg dragging along uselessly and his face smeared with blood, but bathed in rays of light peaking out throught the door, he looked almost angelic. Annabeth winced as a stab of pain flared in her chest and doubled over coughing up flecks of blood, but Percy just shrugged her arm over his uninjured shoulder and dragged her towards the exit.

They both knew it was too late.

But they didnt care.

The battered black door gave way to a small kick from Percy, revealing the light beyond. That glorious light.

It was all worth it.

Annabeth collapsed on the sand painfully, Percy following her example seconds later. They both gazed across the rough waters as the light came nearer and nearer. It was scalding them, but they didn't feel it. All the sacrifices, all the risks, everything was worth it. And yeah, they were going to die.

But they couldn't have wanted to go any other way.

Annabeth glanced at Percy, who was looking at the horizon in absolute contentment. This was what they had worked for all their lives. This was what they had trained for. This is what they got up every day to prepare for. They knew the consequences. They knew the risks. And they took those risks. They had to watch their friends fall around them. They had to live with the fact that they were going to die. It was a suicide mission. When evil is taken down, it always takes down part of the good with it. It was a nessecary sacrifice. It wasn't going to get any better than this.

Their story would be told for eons to come. The story of the group of rebels, the warriors who worked so hard to give them a future.

But the best part, Annabeth thought, as the rays from the exploding Death Star in the sky grew closer and closer, was that she was not alone.

They were tgether. Her and Percy. Percy and her.

And while she knew that no matter what happened to them, they could never truly be gone. As long as their memory, their legacy lived on, so did they.

And that fact was what was on her mind as she laid her head on Percy's shoulder, smiling softly. as she accepted her doom.

The last thing she felt was Percy press I light kiss to her forehead before everything went white.

42 Years Later

"Tell us about Percy and Annabeth again, grandpa! What where they like?"

Leo Valdez sat back in his seat and exhaled, almost wistfully, thinking of other things. The corners of his mouth crinkled and he gazed softly at his grandchildren, all looking at him expectantly, completely silent from their seats on the floor. Calypso laid her hand on his gently, and he blinked back his tears, settling instead for a sigh, before setting up in his rocking chair and looking at his grandchildren.

"What were they like..." He said, somewhat to himself.

"Well, they were a lot like you kids. Rowdy, smart-alecs, not to mention very good story listeners,"

The children on the floor giggled slightly and waited for their grandfather to continue.

"They were also fast, quick and smart." Leo continued. "They were the top of the team, the best agents we had. But they were always getting in trouble."

"Like what?" Chorused the children.

"Well, for starters, they were deeply in love."

"Eww!" groaned the particularly outspoken of the group, as another stuck out her tongue.

"So they were always sneaking off so they could be alone. But there was one day, where they snuck off for a very special reason. They were going to save the world."

"They did everything they could, they sacrificed even themselves, so that you and I could be here today. Without them, we would all be slaves or dead, we would be working all day for the First Order, and once we got too strong, they'd kill us."

The children sat wide-eyed, looking at their grandfather in awe.

"I wish we could've helped them."

Leo chuckled and leaned forward in his seat. "Actually, their is something you can do. Percy and Annabeth are still alive."

"As long as they are remembered, as long as we tell their story, remember what they did to help us, to give us our future, they live on. The only way they can be truly dead is if we forget who they are or what they did for us. The only way they can truly die is if we forget our past."

So we'll just never forget them, right Grandpa?
