Chapter 2: The Scratch

"Hey, let go of me!"Rip roared at Catboy. He had hold of her wrist with one of his cat stripes.

" Or what?" he asked. Bad decision. Rip growled and swiped at Catboy's face. He ducked and put his arm out in front of him.

" Youch!" he yelped as the claws made contact with his skin. " I warned you," sneered the only female Wolfie. " Yip-yip-yaroo!" she howled, and sent Catboy flying into a tree.

Owlette looked up. " Catboy!" she cried out in alarm. Howler took a swing at the girl in red, but missed.

Kevin and Gekko stopped their squabble to look over at Rip glaring up at Catboy, who was trying to untangle his tail from a branch.

Owlette used her Super owl wing wind to move Howler out of the way and flew to her friend's side. "Catboy, are you okay?" she asked. The boy nodded, not looking up from his tail. " I'm fine," he assured her.

Owlette looked at him skeptically and sighed. Why couldn't he look at her, even for a second, to let her know he appreciated her worrying about him? She didn't have time to think about that for too long, because the Wolfies had just ganged up on Gekko.

" Um, Owlette, a little help here?" Owlette turned around and swooped over to aid her friend. " Super owl wing wind!" she called out, and Kevin and Howler were pushed away from the boy in the lizard suit.

" Hey!" Howler cried out angrily. Kevin just shrugged.

Just then, Gekko and Owlette heard someone cry out," Super cat speed!" The duo saw a flash of blue, and then their friend stood in front of them, grinning at the rush he had just had using his super-speed. He looked around at them and caught Owlette's eyes.

They stared at each other for a few seconds, and then Catboy broke gaze.

Owlette felt her face grow hot. Having his icy-blue gaze on her had felt so good. She quickly shook off the feeling. We're just friends and teammates. Nothing more. She looked up to see Catboy had Rip wrapped up in his Super cat stripes again. The Wolfie gave a low growl. "Let go of me!"

Catboy shook his head. " Not so fast," he said. It was then that Owlette noticed three long gashes running down Catboy's right arm. They were bleeding.

Owlette gasped, and tried to cover her mouth. Apparently, Catboy didn't notice. " What is it?" Gekko asked. He followed the girl's gaze. His jaw dropped.

Catboy pulled Rip close to him and whispered something in her ear. Owlette found herself feeling a little jealous of Rip. She couldn't figure out why.

" No way!" cried Rip. " Not a chance."

What did Catboy say to her? Owlette wondered.

" Come on, you know you lost," Catboy was saying. " Why don't you make it easier on yourself and just give it up? You're never gonna get the park."

Ohh.Howler tried to jump at Catboy, but Gekko stopped him. " Nuh-uh," he said, shaking his head. " You are not getting through."

" Fine," Howler growled."We'll go. But you haven't seen the last of us!"

Catboy let go of Rip, and the Wolfies bounded away. " Of course we haven't," he muttered under his breath. The three looked after the Wolfies for a few minutes, then headed home.
