Something important that I have learned from what has happened in my life, Don't Blink! You never know what could happen.
Friday night, there was a school party going on. It was one of the biggest parties of the year and everyone was expected to go. Needless to say me and my sister were upsetting our parents and our aunt Jenna who came to visit by skipping out on family game night, but we promised to be home early to spend some time with everyone. Everything was great, that party was fun and we were all enjoying ourselves.
Little to my knowledge my sister had gotten in a fight with her boyfriend and she wanted to leave that party earlier than we planned. She took off to clear her head and wait for our parents to come and pick her up. She had texted me and I told her that I would meet her back home a little later.
I had drank quite a bit of beer and had been holding in the urge to break my seal but I really needed to go to the bathroom, so I caved and took off to the washroom. Just as I was finishing my business I felt a pit in my chest and then I couldn't breath. I didn't know what was happening, I felt panic and then I felt like I was drowning. I fell to the bathroom floor trying to catch my breath not understanding what was going on and then it all went dark.
I awoke a little while later to my cell phone ringtone going off. It was my little brother Jeremy. I answered the phone, "Jere, what's going on?" As he spoke I said, "Wait, what? Slow down." I immediately stood, "I'm on my way." This could not be happening.
Apparently when my parents came to get Elena, on their way home their car went off Wickery Bridge into the water. Elena had somehow made it out but my parents perished in the water, if Elena had been drowning maybe that was what I was feeling, we are twins. She was in trouble and I could feel that she was and that was our twin connection trying to warn me.
I needed to get to the hospital to be there when Elena woke up. As much as Jeremy and Jenna told me she would be fine I refused to leave her side so the doctor let me stay in the hospital with my sister so I could be there when she woke.
While watching over my unconscious sister, hoping she would wake up, I fell asleep sitting by her bed with my head resting near her leg. I felt her leg move a little while later and opened my eyes looking up to see my sister looking at me with her big brown doe eyes. She said, "Marshal?"
"Elena, hey." I said with a small sad smile, "I'm so glad you're okay."
She looked around not quite understanding what was going on and she said, "We were on our way home. We went off the bridge." Elena looked at me and she said, "Mom and Dad?"
I gave her a sad look and shook my head as tears appeared in his eyes, "That didn't make it." He looked down as the tears started to fall from his eyes,
Immediately tears started to form in her eyes, "What? No. This is my fault." She sobbed and said, "If I hadn't asked them to pick me up."
I looked up when she spoke and moved to sit on the bed with her and said, "Don't you start Elena. This is not your fault, it was a freak accident." I sat with my sister and we mourned the loss of our parents together for that night.
