"Take solace, Gohan. You may have fought alone, but you will not die alone. That is my final gift to you! A PERFECT DEATH!"

Gohan jolted up in his bed, sweating buckets. He reached his right hand up to his left shoulder, rubbing the injured section of his back.
"Oh, thank Kami... It was just a nightmare." He sighed.

'Hey, runt?' Gohan jumped a bit. He sighed for the second time this morning. He knew who it was.

'Piccolo?'

'Yeah, it's me. You okay? Your ki was jumpin pretty wildly earlier.'

'I'm good. It was just a nightmare.' Gohan rubbed the back of his head sheepishly.

'Cell again?'

'Yep.'

'Well, uh, just remember if you have any issues you can just, uh, talk to me kiddo.'

'Thanks Piccolo.' There was an awkward silence between the half-saiyan and Namekian.

'Well, see ya kiddo.'

'Same to you Piccolo.' He felt Piccolo's presence leave. Gohan smiled. Piccolo, even though he did kidnap him when he was four, always felt like a second father to him.

'At least he's around. Huh, where'd that come from?'' Clearing the thought from his mind, he turned to check the clock.

'Ugh, it's only four? Well, there's no way I'm going back to sleep now.' He silently got out of bed and slipped into his gi. He quietly snuck past his mother's room and out the door.

A voice cut through the peacefulness of the morning.

"SON GOHAN! GET YOUR BUTT IN HERE!" The voice shook the ground and birds took flight. Gohan jumped a bit and dropped the boulder he was carrying.

"Crapbaskets." He sped off towards his home. When he landed, his mother was waiting for him, hands on her hips.

"Son, you do know what day it is?" Gohan looked at her blankly.

"Monday?" He guessed, smiling weakly.

Then it hit him.

"Ow! What the?" 'Where the crap did that frying pan come from? I swear she wasn't holding anything five seconds ago!' He rubbed his cheek where the pan had hit him.

"No! It's your first day of school!" 'Oh. Crap.' He had completely forgotten. His mother had thought it was a good idea to send him to school for his last year so that he could, quote, 'Stop being a brooding loner and make some friends.' He had stopped protesting when he realized that going to school meant that he could get away from his overbearing mother.

"Uh, okay! I'll get ready and go!" He ran inside to get his stuff.

"Remember to shower! Lime's coming over to leave with you!"

Goten grabbed onto Gohan's leg, crying.

"Gohan, please stay!" Gohan smiled.

"Squirt, I'll only be gone for six hours. Then I can play with you!" The little boy immediately stopped crying.

"Oh, okay! See you later big brother!" The child ran off to catch a dinosaur, probably. Gohan slung his backpack onto his back and walked outside. Lime was waiting for him.

"Hey, slowpoke! Are you finally ready to go?"

"Yeah, yeah. Come on, I'll carry you." He picked the young woman up bridal style and they took off. He quickly flew over the land towards Satan City. Lime was only a couple years younger than him, and Chi-Chi had convinced her guardians to get her enrolled in Orange Star High so that Gohan had at least one familiar face to talk to.

"Hey Gohan?" Gohan looked down at the girl in his arms.

"Yeah Lime?"

"Are you okay? You look really tired this morning." Gohan frowned.

"Really? I thought I looked fine in the mirror."

"No, no, your face looks fine, but I... nevermind."

"Well, I did have a nightmare this morning, if you want to know." The city came into sight. "We're almost there." A couple minutes later, they landed in Satan City limits.

"We should walk from here. It's not too far from Orange Star High." As they walked, Lime's expression seemed to become more and more irritated. Eventually Gohan asked her. "What's up Lime?" She huffed.

"I still can't believe they named the entire city after that phony. I mean, I get that they think he saved them all, but a city seems overly generous. And they let him become mayor! What the crap is that?" Gohan shrugged.

"I'm just glad that the paparazzi is all over him and not us. I don't think any of us wanted that." Lime frowned and thought for a moment.

"Well, yeah, but did he really have to call you guys fakes?"

"Okay, I am a little pissed off about that. But, the past is in the past." They turned the corner and the school came into view from behind all the tall buildings. "Let's hurry up and get to school."

Videl sat at her desk, waiting for class to start. She fidgeted with the police communicator on her waist. The class was noisy, as per usual. There were notes being handed back and forth, some girls in the back gossiping, and the stereotypical jocks in the back exchanging stories, most likely about how they banged some girl. She checked her watch. It was almost 8:40.

'Come on, where the hell is the teacher?'

"Videl!" The raven-haired girl turned her head. It was the two blondes, Erasa and Sharpner.

"Oh, hey Erasa! Come sit down!" Videl patted the seat next to her.

"Where's teach?" Sharpner said, looking around the room.

"Yeah, he's, like, usually here pretty early." As if on cue, the teacher entered the room.

"Hello class! As per usual, I will be handing out your entrance exams for your review. However, today I just learned that we also have two new students! Both of them scored extremely high on their entrance exams! Maybe all of you could learn a thing or two from them." The words nerds and bookworms were being murmured by many of the students. "Why don't you two come on in and introduce yourselves!"

When the two walked in, Videl was surprised to see that they weren't two small scrawny bookworms, but two completely normal looking students. One was a pretty brunette who had her hair braided up behind her, and the other was a tall, spiky black-haired boy.

He spoke to the class. "Oh, uh, hello! My name is Son Gohan. I've been homeschooled for most of my life."

The other girl jumped in, "And I'm Lime! I'm Gohan's friend and I've been homeschooled with him." More whispering could be heard from the class.

"Well, now go find a seat you two." Immediately Erasa stood up. 'Oh Kami, Erasa no!'

"You guys! We got two seats over here!" Erasa called as she waved both arms. 'Dang it.'

As the duo made their way over, Sharpner leaned over and whispered into Videl's ear.

"Look at Gohan's eyes. There's something off about them, but I can't figure out what." Videl looked at the blond questioningly, then took his advice and looked at Gohan. She was surprised by what she saw. 'He's right... They look like the eyes of a veteran or someone who's seen some shit. Or the eyes of someone with secrets.'

"Hello! I'm Erasa," the blonde said cheerily. "This here is Sharpner." Lime chuckled a bit at the name. Sharper got up, looking pretty annoyed.

"Hey, what's so funny? Got a problem with my name?"

"Your name's Sharpner? As in, a pencil sharpener?" Sharpner deflated a bit.

"Yeah, and?"

"Pfft, nevermind." Both students sat down.

"Soooo, Gohan, are you and Lime..." Gohan looked confused until he registered what Erasa was asking. Both his and Lime's faces turned tomato red. He waved his hands frantically in front of him.

"Nononono! We're not like that!"

"Of course. Anyways, this girl here is Videl Satan!" With that name, Gohan's expression, even if only for a moment, turned to one of anger. Lime simply frowned at the name.

"By Satan, you mean the namesake of the city?" Gohan questioned.

"Yep, she's the daughter of the man who defeated Cell!" He frowned and shifted uneasily in his seat.

"Huh, that's interesting." Gohan commented in a low voice. Videl frowned. Both Gohan and Lime were hiding something to do with her father. 'What are you two hiding?'

The period finished and students made their way down to the gym for the next class. The curriculum had changed with a rise of crime in the city, and now the students were to be taught self defense.

"Who do you think is leading the class? I know for the fact the teacher knows nothing about fighting," said Sharpner.

"Don't know, but whoever it is they better be good, or else I'm personally going to whoop their ass in front of everyone." Videl stated.

As they walked into the gym, Gohan stopped. Erasa, Sharpner, and Videl kept going, too involved in their own conversation. Lime, however, noticed and turned back.

"Gohan, what's wrong?"

"Lime, look who the teacher is." Lime turned to look and her mouth immediately fell all the way open. The teacher spotted Gohan and waved.

"Hey, Gohan! Long time no see!"
