"Come on mommy, we have to hurry before they close." A young green headed child called out to his equally green head mother. His emerald eyes watched her come closer till she was standing by his side.
"I'm here Izuku. Come on let's get going." the boy's mother said to him. As Izuku took off into the old worn down book store his mother followed behind with a kind motherly smile.
Today was a special day for the family. Today was young Izuku's 4th birthday, the day when they would go to their local quirk doctor to see what kind of quirk Izuku will have. Before that Izuku's mother promised to take him to the local book store where he can pick out any comic book that he liked.
"This is awesome." Izuku whispered as he read through an old Captain America comic. This comic was about how the captain joined the military. Then later how he went through a secret government program to try and create a super soldier to help win the war against the Nazis. Before Izuku finished the story he set it to the side next to the other comics that he wanted.
The next book Izuku picked was one he had to sneak past his mom since it was in the mature section of the store. The book was a famous story from the early 21st century. It was about two brothers who would go around America helping people and hunting monsters.
Izuku was so wrapped up into the story of the two brothers that he didn't even notice the old shop owner who came up behind him.
"What do you have there my boy?" the old man spoke up behind Izuku startling him.
"Ahh! Oh it's-it's called supernatural. It's about two brothers in america that go around hunting monsters while keeping people safe. It's super interesting so far." Izuku replied to the old man.
"Ah that was a good one, it did have a terrible ending though." the old man said before seeing the captain america comic next to Izuku, "Are you a fan of the Captain as well my boy?" the man asked.
"Huh. Oh you mean Captain America. Yes I'm a fan of Captain America." Izuku told the old man as a smile easily formed onto his face, "He's one of my favorite pre-quirk heroes." Izuku added.
"Well then how about you put down that garbage in your hands. I'll show you a true masterpiece that combines the likes of Captain America and Supernatural." the man said, getting a curious look from the boy.
Leading Izuku to the other side of the store next to some old dusty boxes the old man reaches into one and pulls out an old dusty comic. On the front of the comic stood a bright red man wearing a trench coat, his left arm looked to be normal but it was his right that stood out the most. His right hand looked to be entirely made out of red stone. In the background, behind the red man were a handful of shadowy figures.
"This hear my boy is one of the best supernatural comics out there. It's called Hellboy. This is the first volume called Hellboy: Seed of Destruction. Give it a try and let me know what you think." As the old shop owner suggested Izuku went back to his previous spot and opened up to the first page.
Izuku was about done with chapter one when his mom came yo get him, "Izuku are you ready to go?" She asked.
"Just a few more pages." Izuku said as he struggled to grab the books he wanted while being nose deep into the Hellboy comic. The first one he wanted was the Captain America comic, the second was the Supernatural book, and lastly was the one he has yet to look up from.
"Come on Izuku we have your doctor's appointment soon" Izuku's mother said, standing next to the checkout waiting for Izuku.
"Coming mommy." Izuku said as he closed his comic.
Reaching the counter where his mom and the old man from before were waiting for him, "So my boy what did you think of the story?" the old man asked as he accepted the Items Izuku handed him.
"The story is amazing, so is the artwork. Though it is kind of scary especially with the frogs." Izuku said even as the last part caused him to shiver at the thought.
"Well I'm glad you like it my boy. How about this I was going to have to get rid of them since nobody wanted to buy them, but since you said you enjoyed the story, how about you take them off my hands." the old man said as he walked over to the old dusty box, "I don't want to see such a masterpiece go to waste. I would rather see some enjoy it." he continued as he picked up the box and brought it over to the counter, "So what do you say my boy? Willing to give these books a good home?" the man asked.
Before Izuku could respond, his mother spoke up, "How much would this cost?"
"Oh nothing of course you're doing me a favour by giving the books a good home. Heck i'll even throw in the other books you have here for free." the man said, trying to persuade Izuku's mother.
"You don't have to do that. You're being more than generous giving my Izuku so many books for free. I'll gladly pay for the other books he grabbed." she answered.
Izuku finding his voice spoke up, "thank you very much mister."
"Think nothing of it my boy." the man said waving off his thanks.
The mother son due left the story in happy moods. Unaware of what was to come that afternoon at the doctors.
"Sorry kid it's not going to happen." The doctor said in an uncaring tone of voice as he looked down at his phone, ignoring the people in front of him, "If you don't mind I have other patients to see." he counted waving his hand at them in a dismissive motion.
Izuku's mother couldn't even vocalize her response to what the doctor did. All she was able to do at the moment was walk out of the doctor's office with Izuku in hand doing her best to not let her rage get the best of her. After that instance she realized what kind of harsh, hurtful world that awaited her little Izuku when he grew up.
"I-I can't be a hero without a quirk." Izuku thought as silent tears rolled down his face as he laid on his bed, "Wh-what will kachan think of me when I tell him. Will he-he no longer want to be friends. If I can't be a hero then wh-" Izuku's train of thought was cut off as his hand hit the box from earlier that was sitting on his night stand, "huh, did mom put that there." Izuku thought as he sat up and peered into the box. Opening the box Izuku was met with the cover of the Hellboy comic that he was so entranced with before. Picking it up he thought, "I need to get away from these bad, unheroic thoughts."
So he started to read. The story and background of the second chapter about the Cavendish hall and HellBoys's companions was so enticing to Izuku. He never did notice when his mother opened the door to his room to check up on him, or even when she said dinner will be ready soon. It wasn't till the start of the third chapter and HellBoy's conversation with Rasputin that he became aware of the world around him. All because of a few words.
"Look around, creature. Feel fear and wonder at what you see, the serpent, the Ogdru-Jahad, the seven beasts, they spoke to men in this place.
Whispers in dreams.
And they speak to me." Rasputin said.
"Do tell" Hellboy responded
"Fifty years ago you were brought across into this world for a reason, creature.
You were called to stand beside me at Ragna Rok to command the power I shall unleash upon this world.
Here is your purpose.
Here is your Destiny." Rasputin told.
"...I think I'll pass," Hellboy replied.
"You do not seem to fully understand, creature.
By these words I do not offer. By these words I do command." Rasputin said.
"...I…
...Don't…
...Think…
...So…" Hellboy said before raising his gun, "Get stuffed!" he shouted, pulling the trigger.
This one scene changed everything for Izuku. After reading that he could only think, "like Hellboy, I can forge my own destiny. So what if I don't have a quirk I can become a hero in my own way. So get stuffed destiny I'm doing things my own way." with that a large smile appeared on Izuku's face, his tears long forgotten.
Not even bothering to fight away the smile on his face Izuku got up to head towards the computer to start researching ways to become a hero without a quirk. That didn't last as an unwelcome sound cut through his home at that very moment.
"AAAAAHHHHHH!" Someone screamed from the floor below. Racing out of his room and down the stairs Izuku flung himself into the kitchen to see a site no child should ever see.
His beloved mother.
Ripped.
To.
Shreds.
Above her stood no human, for no man could do what that thing did to another person. No, what stood towering over the body of his loving mother was a monster with two sets of eyes on each side of its head. Its head was elongated like that of a hound, but unlike a hound its teeth were pointed outwards. At the back of its head was a mass of slimy looking tentacles that reached its sickly green shoulders. The creature was on all four as it started to feast upon the corpse of Izuku's mother.
Trying to take a step back Izuku found he was unable to move his body. Trying again Izuku was able to move his head. Looking towards his feat he saw one of his mother's favorite kitchen knives. One that was a wedding present from her parents, the kind made with a quirk that stops the blade from ever dulling.
Slowly bending down Izuku grasped the handle of the knife the best he could in his shaking hands. Summoning up everything he could Izuku tried to take a step forward; it wasn't enough.
Trying again but this time thinking back to the comic that he was just reading and what hellboy had said, "when I get angry I sometimes do stupid things." with that thought in mind Izuku did the best he could to summon his anger. He thought of what this monster had done to his mom, the rudeness of the doctor, and the potential loss of Kachans friendship.
With these thoughts in mind Izuku was able to summon up his agner. giveing a yell that would make any viking proud, he charged at the monster. Not even the monster icy glare was able to falter Izuku's burning rage as it turned to face him. For it didn't even think that Izuku was a threat much less that he would try to attack. That was its downfall.
Izuku gave out another yell as he brought the knife down onto the monster's head. The blade made easy work of cutting flesh and bone only stopping when the handel hit the top of the skull.
The monster slumped down to the floor after such a deadly blow. Izuku following right behind it, exhausted from the adrenaline coursing through his veins. What happened next was truly a surprise. The monster's body caught ablaze with emerald green flames that turned it to ash. Leaving nothing behind but a large black scorch mark on the kitchen floor next to Izuku and his mutilated mother.
