"Mmmph..." Izuku could feel his head throbbing in pain. He was going to probably feel that for the next few days.
His hands could feel something soft and fuzzy. His senses sent signals to his brain telling him how warm and cozy he felt.
Izuku's eyes shot open. He's fighting a villain! Or he was fighting one until he got knocked out. The image of golden rings flashed through his head. That was the most eye-catching thing about the villain. And the fact that it hurt every time he was hit.
Izuku sat up in the bed, a cool towel fell off of his head and onto his lap. He was in someone else's house, there were cute decorations all over the room like teddy bears, small well-trimmed bonsai plants, and neatly lined up pictures on the wall. Upon closer inspection of the pictures, he saw the Big Three and Eri on a few of them. Did someone from the Big Three save him?
The throbbing in his head made him groan in pain and curl up on the bed. The last thing he remembered before he blacked out was the fight with a villain. He was trying to capture a villain whose quirk allowed him to store energy. He didn't know the specifics of the villain's quirk, but it was something like that.
Izuku's ear suddenly picked up on the sound of footsteps coming closer to the door. The doorknob slowly turned, Izuku quickly looked for a way to look normal so he sat up straight on the bed.
The door revealed a girl wearing some comfortable pajamas with periwinkle colored hair almost touching the carpet She was carrying a tray on one hand with a cup of tea and some sandwiches.
"Nejire?" Izuku almost fainted on the spot. It's been a few years since he anyone from the Big Three. He saw them on YouTube and in the newspapers a few times, but never in person. It was great to see one of them!
"Oh, hey, Deku! Or should I call you Izuku? Great to see you're doing better!" She set the tray down on a table next to the bed and pulled up a nearby wheelchair to sit on. "Recovery Girl came by to heal you from your injuries, but she said you might encounter a mild headache. It's been a while since I last saw you, how are things holding up on your end?"
Mild headache? This one had a spiking sharp pain every time he turned his head too quickly, maybe Recovery Girl's quirk wasn't as strong as before.
"Not much happened other than graduating U.A. High School, trying to open up my own hero agency, and spending most of my time capturing villains. And you can call me Izuku if you want." Izuku hesitated before he asked a question. "How... How did you find me?"
Nejire looked up at the ceiling as she recalled her memories. "Well, I ended up looming down a few alleyways because they are known for shady stuff and I found you lying there unconscious... What happened to you?"
"Hmmm... My memory is a bit hazy, but the last thing I remember is fighting a villain." Izuku looked at the sandwiches and his stomach growled in response.
Nejire giggled. "You sound hungry, do you want to eat?"
Izuku blushed in embarrassment and nodded. "Y-Yeah, I'm pretty hungry... Can I have some of the sandwiches?"
"Of course! I made them for you and my favorite jasmine tea to go along with the sandwiches." Nejire picked up a small dish from the tray and put a ham sandwich down on it. She gently set it down on his open hands and flashed him a smile.
Izuku smiled back at her and then searched around the room for a clock. He found one lying on top of a drawer that said 12:30. How long has he been asleep? "Hey... Uh... Nejire? How long have I slept for?"
Nejire began to count off of her fingers while tilting her blue eyes to the sky. "Hmm... Let's see... I usually do my laundry on Saturdays, and that's when I found you... And today is a Monday. You were knocked out cold for at least two days. I bet Uraraka is worrying about you, right?"
Izuku felt the sudden butterflies rise from his stomach and all the way up to his throat. Nejire's probably right, people might be worried about him. But where was the last place he put his phone?
Oh... That's right, it got destroyed during the fight with the villain. "Yeah, I'll bet someone is worried about me, even if it's not Uraraka."
He'll worry about the phone later, right now food is the number one thing on his mind right now. He bit into the sandwich and let the flavors dance around his tastebuds. He alternatively drank the jasmine tea in between every bite. They talked about Eri and their high school years as they ate.
After he finished the delicious sandwiches Nejire made, he slowly got up from the bed and stood up. He winced in pain from the stinging on his head. "Uh... Nejire, I'm going to go home now. It was nice meeting you! And thanks for the sandwich and tea!"
"Yeah, no problem! Do you want to meet up again sometime? Here's my phone number if you do!" She slid a piece of paper across the table with a few numbers written on it.
Blood rushed into Izuku's face, and he could feel his face heating up. "Y-Yeah, sure!" Even though he got a few phone numbers from girls during his years at U.A. High School, he still wasn't used to the feeling.
"I hope you feel better and don't do anything too reckless for the next few days! Just take it easy, and you'll be better in no time!" Nejire began to clean up the place with the use of her quirk. She noticed Izuku trying to help her clean the area and gave him a reassuring smile. "It's fine, Izuku! I got it, after all, you're the one who's hurt!"
Izuku nodded and was about to exit Nejire's apartment room when he heard her call his name. "Izuku! Wait up! I forgot to give you something!"
Did Nejire mature? Now that Izuku was thinking back on it, she didn't ask any questions at all when he woke up. But that was life, wasn't it? Everyone Izuku knew back in his high school years matured to a better person.
"What is it?" Izuku called out. He saw her float towards him with a tote bag covered in swirls.
"It's some ready-to-eat food for you!" She landed on the ground and handed him the bag. "You look like the type of person who doesn't know how to cook too well, am I right?"
Images of burnt food flashed past Izuku's mind. "Oh... Uh... Thanks again for all your kindness... But how did you know I can't cook well?"
Nejire rolled her eyes like it was obvious. "Come on, silly! All you ever did was spout heroism from your mouth!" Nejire gently nudged him out the door. "I'll see you later on our date!"
"D-Date!?" Izuku blushed, he quickly tried to hide his face from her, but it was too late.
Nejire giggled and pointed down the stairs. "That's the reaction I wanted! Just go all the way down to the first floor and make a right for the exit! I'll see you later!"
Izuku chuckled to himself a few seconds later as he descended down the stairs. Maybe she didn't mature as much as he thought she did. She probably was thinking about him and decided not to bombard him with an overflooding amount of questions.
First, he needs to get a new phone. Then he can go home and rest. After he paid for his new phone, he got a taxi and went home. As he walked up to his house, panic overtook him. Where did he put his keys?
He looked into the tote bag he was holding and found the keys laying on top of the containers of food.
"Whew, thought I actually lost my keys there for a sec..." Izuku mumbled, he opened up the door to his house and entered in. He needed to put his keys in a safer place instead of shoving it in his pockets every time he went out for his daily patrols.
He put the food away into the refrigerator and prepared an ice pack with a thin towel underneath for his aching head. Here's to getting better tomorrow.
A few days later, Izuku was feeling great. The food Nejire had provided for him was a blessing, he didn't need to cook anything other than microwaving it.
Izuku jumped from building to building. Hopefully, his short leave didn't increase the crime rate by a lot.
After a while of making sure the city was safe, he took his phone out and noticed a text message from Nejire a few hours ago.
It read, "Hey, Izuku! Wanna grab a light lunch together? Meet me at Meow Meow Café if you're down!"
In the middle of typing a response back, he got a call from Nejire.
"Izuku! Did you read my text? You weren't responding for so long!"
"Sorry, Nejire! I was a bit busy with my daily patrols! I'll be there in a few minutes!"
"Okay! But are you free today? I don't want to interrupt anything important."
"No, it's fine! I have nothing planned today!"
"Are you just saying that because you want to talk to me?~" She sang.
"N-No! Of course not! I actually have nothing planned today!"
"Okay, Izuku! I'll see you there!" She hung up the phone and the sound of her voice was replaced by silence.
Now his schedule was filled with something. The week was looking pretty gloomy, but maybe this small meeting would brighten things up. What he was going to speak with her, he didn't know. However, she always talked about quirks with other people, much like himself.
Izuku quickly searched up the café on his phone and made his way there just in time to see Nejire walking into the restaurant.
"H-Hey, Nejire!" He was out of breath. Resting must have thrown off his fitness level by a little.
"Hey, Izuku!" Nejire greeted. "Did you bring any money for the food and tea?"
Izuku patted his pockets on his hero costume. He usually kept some money in one of his pants pockets, but nothing was there. "Uh... Sorry, I don't have any money... Was I supposed to bring some?" All that resting must have also thrown him off of his usually prepared self.
"Don't worry, Izuku! I brought money for our lunch since we both know you are rehabilitating and I knew you would forget!" She winked at him, and he let out a sigh of relief.
"Thanks, although I feel like as a man, I should be paying for lunch..."
"It's no big deal! You can pay me back later. But no need to dwell on the negative stuff, there's cats inside the café! It'll be pretty fun to play around with them while eating and talking to each other!"
Izuku smiled. She was the most upbeat and optimistic person he had ever met. Nothing brought her mood down other than fighting evil villains or people who look at her only for her beauty.
Izuku went in front of Nejire and opened the door for her. "Oooh! Look who's being all nice today!"
"It's just a gentlemanly thing to do," Izuku said as he nervously rubbed his head.
Nejire chose a table for them and reserved it while Izuku went up to the counter to order their drinks and food. Izuku was shocked when he saw cats come up to him and rub their warm bodies on his legs. He looked over at Nejire and saw her petting a cat on the head as it curled up on her lap.
Izuku ordered a hot cup of matcha green tea latte for himself and just a plain jasmine tea for Nejire.
He picked out a grilled cheese sandwich paired with tomato soup as Nejire had asked him to and got himself a grilled chicken wrap with a quinoa salad bowl. He still needed to stay healthy in order to recover at a good pace and trying to abstain from katsudon was proving to be difficult, but he'll treat himself one day once he's back to normal.
The order came out fairly quickly. Izuku grabbed the small tray and walked back to the table. Small kids ran around the area, almost making him trip, but he managed to safely carry the food to the table. The parents of the children noticed him as the famous hero known as Deku and asked him for a few photos. They also recognized Nejire and invited her for some pictures, who gratefully accepted the offer.
They returned to the seats after the requests and Nejire poked fun at Izuku. "Looks like someone's famous!~" She teased.
Izuku chuckled. "I guess I am. Although they recognized who you were too."
"That's true. Also nice job on not dropping our food, you have some quick reflexes!" Nejire slowly nibbled on her grilled cheese sandwich and closed her eyes to relish the taste.
"T-Thanks didn't want to waste the money you spent on our food. How does your sandwich taste?" Izuku grabbed his chicken wrap and the quinoa bowl off the tray to get it closer to him.
Her eyes locked onto his and she smiled. "It's gooey, cheesy, scrumptious, and delicious! Do you want a piece?"
Izuku nodded, and she carefully pulled a small wedge off of the sandwich and handed it to him. "We should do this more often! I don't really get to talk to people nowadays because of how everyone's so busy with hero work. Depending on if you have time or not! Since you are trying to be like All Might, I'm pretty sure your goal is to be the number one hero!"
"Am I that easy to read?" Izuku asked as he took a bite of his wrap.
"I mean, you always use his key phrases like "Smash!" or "Detroit Smash!" so I thought you wanted to be exactly like him and your quirks are exactly the same!"
Izuku almost choked on his food. Another person comparing his quirk to All Might's! He has to protect his mentor's secret! "Y-Yeah, our quirks are the same! But it's not entirely the same! We have some key differences... Like..."
"Like how you break your body whenever you use your quirk?"
"H-Hey! It's not that bad anymore! But you're right, that is a key difference..." Let her believe in what she wants to, as long as it protects the secret of One For All. Or maybe he should confess it to her, it feels burdensome to carry this secret all by himself, but he did promise All Might he would keep it safe with him and with Kacchan.
"Speaking of quirks, who's quirk in your old class interested you the most? Who had the strongest quirk? And who had the weakest?"
"Hmmm... Let's see, if I had to choose someone from my old class with the most interesting quirk... It has to go Momo Yaoyorozu since she can create anything with her quirk as long as she has the needed nutrients. It's amazing to see what she will make next with that smart brain of hers and the capacity of what you have to memorize to be able to use that quirk." Izuku took a bite out of his chicken wrap and put it down on some napkins. Looks like he won't be able to eat much since they will be talking a lot.
"Oooh! That's interesting! But you are right, her quirk is so useful in many different ways! All she has to do is memorize the atomic configuration of the item she wants to create and then slowly envision its components! You chose someone good! Now, who has the strongest quirk?"
"That title definitely goes to Kac... Er, Bakugou... He was one of the smartest people in my class. He has some keen intellect that allows him to be extremely intelligent and strategic... And currently, he is the number one pro hero..."
Nejire reached over the table and patted him on the head. Izuku gently shook his head as her hand ruffled through his hair, she smiled and spoke. "It's fine, Izuku. You'll get to be the number one someday. If I remember correctly, you seem to have trouble controlling your quirk during the U.A. Sports Festival while everyone else had a good grasp of what their quirks do. Now tell me who had the weakest quirk!"
He felt her hand go away from her head, and he immediately wished she was patting him again. Her contact felt nice, it was filled with genuine kindness. "Uh... I don't think there was anyone with a weak quirk in my class. Aizawa sensei said it himself I'm pretty sure, he usually is the type to expel students if they don't have any potential, but no one from my class was kicked out. But a few students that came in before and after us were expelled, meaning Aizawa sensei saw something in every single one of us."
"Aww, that's cute!" Nejire giggled as Izuku rolled his eyes at her. "Ah, I forgot to ask you! Did you hear anything about Eri?"
"Eri, is she okay? I saw her last week and she seemed to be doing fine, although she was wearing a backpack for some reason..."
"That's the thing, silly! She's starting her last year in middle school! She chose to go to U.A. High School after she graduates from her middle school! We should drop by to give her a surprise visit sometime!"
"Sounds like a plan! I-" Izuku paused midway in his sentence as he saw a truck being hurled across the sky towards them.
Nejire must have seen the truck too, she reacted quickly with her quirk and the truck was gently set on the ground.
"Izuku, I think we have some company! I'll get the people to safety, you go and apprehend the villain!" Nejire bolted away to save the civilians from the incoming danger.
A loud crash snapped Izuku out of his shock, and he rushed out of the restaurant and into the streets. Izuku could see people were scrambling everywhere away from the source of the danger. Screams could be heard around him, but he couldn't pinpoint exactly where it was coming from.
But Izuku can trust Nejire, she was one of the Big Three after all. She'll save the people, and he'll take the villain down as quickly as possible to avoid further damage to the city and its people.
Izuku put his arm on his mouth as he choked on the dust and coughed. The smoke slowly cleared away and standing on top of the mountain of rubble was the villain.
Izuku's eyes widened in fear. The blood in his veins turned ice-cold as he realized who he was looking at. Several golden rings adorned his fingers. They glinted and twinkled as the sunlight hit them. Splotches of blood coated the surface of the ring.
"I see you survived my first onslaught, Deku. But you won't see tomorrow's sunlight after this battle, SUCCESSOR OF ALL MIGHT!!"
Author's Note: A new romance fanfiction for all of you people who ship Izuku and Nejire! I have been working on this for quite a while, but I have no idea where it's headed. When I first started this, I wanted to make it more serious with you know some bloodshed, curse words, more problems for the main character, and maybe some smut. Also stay safe from that evil virus called coronavirus.
